Stripe refused to honor a valid gift card, despite California Civil Code Section 1749.5, which prohibits the expiration of gift cards. I was previously a long-time customer and was gifted the card several years ago. After moving out of state, I wasn't able to use it until I returned to Santa Cruz this past Christmas. Instead of addressing the legality or attempting to resolve the issue professionally, the owner lectured me and told me I "should have spent it sooner." It's a terrible way to run a business in the heart of a town that is built on community, loyalty, and repeat customers. read more

Way bigger and nicer than I thought. Actually for years I was under the impression that it was a furniture shop, so when I realized the other day it was a boutique...just needed to check. T-shirts for $48 (just plain white 'wife beaters' no, thanks even though super soft to the tact). I liked the decoration of the store the most, as well as the flower selection (they carry super nice bouquets from a local flower farm) and all the beauty products. Did not care much about the kitchen stuff and even less baby related items. Overall it is a super cool place to find ideas on how to decorate yourself or buy excellent gifts (or get ideas for the DIY moments we all have!). read more

Lovely little boutique with lots of cool items I haven't been able to locate elsewhere. Pricy but worth it in my opinion. I picked up just a few items and wanted like 10 more but kept it in check. They have a lovely kids section with really fun and interactive toy selections. 5 stars for that alone. The cosmetics and personal care section shined. I loved everything I bought and wanted so much more. Clothing is very overpriced and didn't really sell me on anything particular so I opted to save my money. Quality home and office goods and tons of cool gifts are to be found here. They have plates that would break my bank because I wanted them all lol. They offer gift wrapping which is a lovely touch to this already amazing store. I picked up a nice card for a couple who was getting married and they absolutely loved it. Overall I would shop here again when in town and wish they had more options online but this is a very local spot. Their men's store next door I found was a bit lacking but my fiancé enjoyed meandering around for a while. I got a couple personal care items from that location. This is a cute little boutique with really stylish and chic clothes for adults, and the softest and cutest clothes and toys for babies! I love coming to this ship because they allow my Lilo inside and I can browse at my leisure with my little pupper. They are very dog friendly and have a water bowl outside for your little pupper as well. Staff are super friendly and willing to help you find whatever you need. I've come here a few times now, and it's always been stellar service. Once my sis even wanted to stop by her a bit close to closing time (and I told her to hurry herself up lol) and someone still helped her find her size in something she wanted to try on. Last time I stopped by, someone helped me with a bunch of cute soft clothes and toys for my friend that moved to South Africa and is now expecting. She's super into environmentally friendly clothing and other items, so this was a one stop shop for all the things I wanted to send her before the baby comes. I got adorable and soft little onesies with the cutest prints, educational "toys" for babies, and something cute and adorable for mama as well. I also stop by here when I need a card or a cute little some thing like a birthday gift for a friend. This shop always has what I need (and don't need but just want lol) when I wander inside. And the friendly service and dog friendly atmosphere is what makes me keep coming back. I was too excited at all the baby clothes I got to take pics, but I'll grab some the next time I'm in. I could literally spend hours here! I love small shops like these and they had all sorts of homewares, clothes, and cards. I bought a handful of cards that were freakin hilarious (seriously could have just stood there and read all of them) and I got a sweater. I love Stripe so much. I love their clothing, home wares, window displays, wall art, First Friday events... everything about it. I used to buy clothes from "fast-fashion" stores like H&M and wear them for a month and then dislike them or have them fall apart. Same went for home items I purchased. I realize this is a very capitalist, first world problem I've suffered from, but nonetheless, I could never really escape the cycle of buying into trends I realized I didn't even really like, and wastefully purchasing from irresponsible, environmentally and socially unsustainable corporations. I appreciate that Stripe makes an effort to purchase items that are made in the U.S., or at least responsibly made abroad. Depending on where you're at financially, prices can be considered quite high but if you can afford even one item, it's the type of thing you will wear over and over for years to come-- at least it has been for me. This is another case for how this becomes a more responsible, sustainable way to shop for your needs and wants: I find that every single item I buy from Stripe ends up being worn on a weekly basis, so that if I'm occasionally adding something of theirs to my wardrobe instead of mass purchasing low quality items from a corporate chain, my money is better spent. read more

This is the stripe boutique what does not sell men's fashion confusingly located right next door to the stripe men's boutique. Parking is street only which (unless it's before 10 am-that is to say before the store is open) means there is no parking. In the likely event that you can't find street parking don't panic as there is a parking garage more or less across the street and a for pay surface lot right behind the building. This is a much larger store then the men's. The stock is incredibly diverse and can include some of the stuff you find in the mens store such as custom razors. The shaving gels and foams tend to be very different however. While they do have women's clothing it tends to be jeans, wraps, tops and sport bra kind of things. This is not a place to pick up a full outfit, dress or shoes. The jewelry selection is heavy on vintage and/or craft made items. Within those styles they have a large selection. Most of the store is either accessories or home decor stuff-candles, towels, soaps, wall hangings, throws and whatnot. If you are looking for giftables this is an excellent spot, and they even have a small (but high quality) selection of children's puzzles and toys. The owner has a great eye for color and quality which makes this a great spot to shop for that one thing that will complete your outfit, or that one thing you didn't know you needed until you saw it on the shelf. Overall it's very much worth a browse if you are out and about, and this is never more true then when you are looking for a gift for someone. read more

The lay out of this store is so slick and clean, and all of the products are labelled beautifully. It's everything that Anthropologie wishes it could be; the best part is it's locally-owned. From mini camera key chains that make noises as if you are taking a picture ($4), mustache erasers ($ can't remember if I paid $1 or $4), cute handmade baby bibs ($10), red and white striped paper straws($7 very reasonable vs other stores online prices), clothing, purses (leather ones are expensive $50+), jewelry, etc. Some of the clothing and items are pricey but not everything in the store is pricey. Each time we visit downtown SC, we stop into Stripe to see what new vintage lovely we can find... and each time I find something I absolutely love and just want to take home with me! read more

I came into the store with my girlfriend a few nights before Christmas and one of the girls who works there (the receipt said Mary) was able to help me buy a gift for my girlfriend-- right underneath her nose-- without my girlfriend knowing. I know how hectic retail can be during the holidays and I greatly appreciate the extra effort they put into giving us great service. This shop has a great range of clothing and home goods. It's a great spot for gift buying, and the shop itself is beautiful to browse around. Prices are reasonable and the staff is very friendly. The home goods selection ranges from decor (candles, blankets), to kitchen (cookbooks, pretty pans and bowls, serving utensils), bath (body products, towels), and kids (toys, clothing, books). They are located in a cute, walkable neighborhood in downtown Santa Cruz, with lots of other shopping and snacking options nearby. The men's Stripe shop is just a couple doors down and has a complimentary selection of men's clothing and giftables. I bought some dainty gold earrings that I've gotten several compliments on during their Small Business Saturday sale. I don't get this store?! Much less other reviewers who say it has great vintage. The term vintage is used loosely here! When I think vintage, I think of beautiful gabardine and silk crepe..not 70's and 80's jackets that are a quarter of the price down at Goodwill. Nope. I just can't come here anymore. This establishment has really gone downhill. They used to carry funky vintage pieces, cowboy boots, have an amazing baby section, and give killer customer service. It makes me sad that the last few times I've been in the prices are extremely inflated, the clothes aren't very interesting or unique and I'm NEVER greeted, ever! I find myself saying hello to the workers before they even acknowledge I'm in the store. I've almost stopped coming in all together but I came in the other day because I was on the hunt for a cute pajama set and some new underwear. When I came in the woman behind the counter was holding her phone directly in front of her face, clearly scrolling through Instagram or something. She didn't bother to look up, let alone say hello at all. Another woman walked in, and again she didn't even bat an eyelash in her direction. This just turned me off entirely and reminded me why I decided to stop coming in in the first place. I peeked around anyways and the prices are RIDICULOUS! White t shirts for $60+, pants for upwards of $200-$300 and dresses and rompers through the roof as well. Its odd because they used to have such an amazing array of prices and pieces but whatever is going on here now is unoriginal and flat out pricey. Mix that in with the entire lack of customer service or really any store presence at all and there's just no more reason to go in. read more

This place blew me away! Saw it for the 1st time on the 1st Fridays Art Walk in dt SC. Beautifully decorated, great employees, and really unique stuff - reminded me of Paxton Gate in San Francisco on Valencia. I got a 5-in-one hammer with 4 crew drivers in its handle, which is small, and has a hand-painted quality for only $15. they have ceramic paint-it-yourself ornamental feathers, tiny music boxes that place Beatles Songs (like "Hey jude" and "Here Comes the Sun"), gorgeous jewelry and vintage/antique furnishings, and a wide variety of kid's toys and accessories. Check it out - you'll get lost for an hour, I guarantee it. read more

I have to say I have become completely obsessed with this store. I love how they "recycle" vintage jewelry to create gorgeous modern pieces. It has the vintage flair but is wearable everyday. Usually I see old vintage pieces and think I have to "put the whole outfit together". Not so here! You can do the whole outfit or pick out a perfect unique piece just for you. It reminds me of anthropologie but it is so much better! Everything here is one of a kind. I love old tea cups but think, wow how can I use this in my house. No one my age drinks tea out of cups like this. Then I look around and wow I see gorgeous candles and hanging lights that not only spice up your home decor, but become great talking points. 5 stars for Stripe Mens. We had the best experience, felt so at home, and comfortable there due to the honest kindness of the sales associates. We were greeted from the moment we walked in, asked if we needed any help, had a great conversation and left so excited to come back. 3 stars for Stripe Women's. Amazing product, but myself and three other random women walked into the store and browsed for about 10 minutes with no greeting or acknowledgement. The 3 staff girls chatted with one another about their weekends behind the register and ignored each one of us. The only time a girl said anything to a guest was when that guest came up to the front and interrupted her conversation to ask about a product. Myself and the other ladies left without a word from the staff. I was pretty bummed out that we had such a warm experience in the men's store, and such a cold experience in the women's. Never a good thing when you feel like you would rather buy from the online shop, rather than the flagship. read more

Over the past few years, of the stores in downtown Santa Cruz this is the only one, except for the bookstores, where I venture forth to browse and to shop. Stripe Design Group offers a different aesthetic to the retail scene, simultaneously contemporary and vintage, in a visually stimulating way. The inventory has settled down into less vintage, and more into current manufacturers and interior design items. This is a big space, and it may be that more artists need to be involved with this design group to show their work. read more

I just breezed into this retail store located on Walnut Avenue. Wow. I feel as if though I found my nest in the form of a store. Walk into this quirky, marvelous place and find yourself lusting after so many items. Vintage Tea Cup candles, vintage jewelry (I had bring home the pewter cuff .. oh so lovely, I'm wearing it as I type this!). The clothing is uniquely appropriate. Think modern, yet vintage ... maybe deja vu? Yes. I "had" to purchase the Sunhee Moon Tunic in a striking eggplant. And wait until you get a whiff of the tissue your items get wrapped in (aha the details)!! Yet above the affordably priced merchandise Stripe has to offer, the one thing that will bring me back over and over is the excellent customer service (and if you live in Santa Cruz, you know that's a true find). read more

I was looking for a pair of sunglasses (particular brand, style, and also color) that ended up being so popular, the five other carriers of this brand I visited were sold out. Enter Anna, the extraordinary salesperson. She not only knew the item I was looking for (basically before I could even finish describing it), she also offered to contact the retailer to make the magic happen needed for the pair to be shipped to my door. (I live in San Francisco.) Simply *no one* from the five other places I visited even bothered to give me the time of day re:getting me the item. Anna not only assessed my sense of personal style and sized up my thirst for this product, she also just made things happen for me in a very timely manner. It takes two to tango, and I'm not sure what I signaled to trigger this high bar of service. I'm also not sure if this is the everyday over at Stripe, but I do know it was unexpected and simply delightful. Thanks so much, Anna! I LOVE Stripe!! I have to agree with alexis h. in that it is my new addiction. Ive been in twice in a week! I took my sister with me the second time and now she's hooked too! So many sweet vintage pieces and pretty little things from dresses and lacy undies to fedora hats and little gun keychains.. There are things for girls, guys, babies, and homes- something for everyone! My favorite part is by the register where there are $5 bowls of old gaudy wedding rings, gold keys to make necklaces out of, and random bangles and scarves to dig through :) The best part id most of it is actually affordable! There are some pricey items floating about as expected in a cute, funky, boutique such as this, but most things are under $100 for sure. usually under $50. Its kind of like Urban outfitters except actually vintage, reasonably priced, not available to the masses and corporate. So way better :) Go check it out. Especially worth a gander on the first friday of the month where there will be an artist showcase as well and they'll be open later than normal and probably serving complimentary yummy drinks ;) read more

Every time i go in here I realize that i want to come back already. I know the store has a small selection of items that I could use myself (as a guy), but now that i'm married i find myself going in here more often for gift purchases. This store still seems like the perfect store to be in santa cruz. It keeps many people from making trips up to Hayes Valley in sf. I am happy that the store is carrying more and more guys clothing. This is such a fun and creative store. They do a great job decorating their interior every season and their interior is as creative as their goods. You'll find an assortment of art pieces from local artists as well as creative knick- knacks for your home or office. They have a limited selection of clothing for men, women, children and even babies. Their clothes are one-of-a-kind and some are custom made, hence the high prices. I'm a big fan of their t-shirts--I know if I buy the shirts here it gives me a less likely chance of running into a friend at a club wearing the exact same shirt! Stylish, trendy and unique...what more can a guy ask for? Pass the style onto a friend--this is a great store to buy your friends gifts and best yet (like my point above), they'll most likely ask you where you got it, because you'll find pieces in this store that you won't find anywhere else. Amazing store! I love simple, high quality and unique items and this store has it all. Each month they change their decor on the back wall and create a new, fun background. On the first Friday of each month they host a fun night that features a different artist and they host fun events often. From clothing, to accessories to household items - they have it all. They even have an adorable baby section and a men's store located next door. It gives me incentive to check-in each month just to see what the creative minds there have decided to do with the space. The employees are joyful and so helpful. Love that this boutique is much more than just a store, it's a full experience. read more
