Heading home to Florida from Texas, and it was getting a bit late in the evening so I knew I had to stop somewhere for some food before I found a hotel, because this is the rural south and restaurants like to close early. There had been a place up the road that I stopped at briefly, but it simply did not have that vibe that I was looking for. Fortunately, I found this place before it closed for the night and everyone went off to some other local place to go dancing (more on that later). Camile's has that total diner feel to it, which is fine. Since this is Louisiana, they had crawfish on the menu since they were in season, and that is what I went for, along with some crab jalapeno poppers. The waitress tried to sell me on the four pound option, but I think by the end she was glad that I said to just go with two pounds, because they were itching to get out the door themselves. The poppers were pretty good... you get three with a dressing (usually ranch) and it worked very well. Just a hint of heat from the jalapenos. Then came the crawfish. Usually you can get them with red potatoes and corn, but apparently they were out of corn (how can you be out of corn??!!) Now, I am not all that experienced in dealing with crawfish, having only had them one other time down in Baton Rouge, but I started to get the hang of it after about one pound. I come from a strong blue crab background, where all of the meat is in the claws, so I was cracking each of the claws as well for a taste of the meat, but I soon figured out that the only claws worth going for were the larger ones... the small ones are simply not worth the effort. No, the real prize with these guys is the tail, of course. It took me a while to get the knack for it, but soon I was going through them at a steady pace. However, I had NOTHING on the UPS driver that came in about fifteen minutes after I sat down. This guy had STYLE. He opens the door, and blaring out of a bluetooth speaker he is carrying is playing Parliaments "Give up the Funk" as loud as it will go. He takes two steps inside, and then just stands there posing... it was... awesome. Turned out he was a well-known local, and had recently achieved a bit of celebrity status in the local paper. Went by the name of Big Brown. Definitely a highlight of the night for me. He then sat down and was presented with (I think) the four pound order of crawfish, which he proceeded to go through in something like ten minutes. After all of this, the place started to clear out, and in the end I was the last customer... had I order the four pound option, I would probably still be there. The staff were a bit anxious because they had all decided to go dancing at some local bar down the road, so I tried to get through my food as quickly as possible. Everyone was very courteous, but it was obvious they wanted to get out of there. read more

Good riddance. The place was awful a couple months ago. Horrible service, terrible people. Smart alec waitresses, even had a known drug head as a waitress with pink and purple hair. Food was terrible. Trashy people running the place. None of them were smart in any way shape or form. It won't be missed. Many years ago in the early 2000's the place was awesome. When the new owners took over some 14 years ago , the place spiraled down the toilet immediately. I don't see how they kept the doors open as long as they did. Been coming here for years. Always nice waitresses and staff. It's usually clean and reliable but recently they have moved their hours and increased their prices. Now just open from Thursday to Sunday. Typical shrinkflation. Sunday night we went and had cheese sticks, usually large and good. This time they were more like store bought and a huge disappointment. Son had a kids catfish, wife had a burger and I had catfish platter. Took so long we thought we had been forgotten and drinks went dry. Finally when the food came all of the fries were very bland and similar to the Walmart brand type. I had a pile of fish so did son. Burger was ok according to my wife. The fish used to come with a side salad which has now been removed Andi could get by paying extra. I'm not looking forward to going back like I used to. I'll drive down the road. read more

Road trips usually mean eating mostly fast food, so we took a chance on this local place. Sorry, no pics but hubby loved the sausage beans and rice. Wasn't very spicy he said. We expected the hush puppies to have some spice but they were sweet. I had the chicken pasta. Both were good sized portions. Our waitress was great! We had a nice small salad. The hamburger was dry and tasteless. Two of us got the hamburger steak and mashed potatoes and gravy and it was horrible. One of us had the grilled chicken and it was dry and no seasoning. We had eaten here before and it was really good. Wasted $100.00. Our $17 to our waitress was appropriate. Ordered two 4 pound boiled crawfish platters to go and got home with no corn or potatoes as stated, only sauce. Crawfish had a good taste just disappointed we didn't have the extras. I paid $58 for 8 pounds of boiled crawfish......do better! read more

Went to Camille's for dinner for my birthday last night.We waited almost 2 hours for our food and when we finally got it, every dish was overcooked, I ordered redfish that I had to cut with a knife and it was dry. The wait staff were good, but the 2 cooks don't even qualify for McDonald's, especially the one named Alice and a male cook! They overcooked the steak and hamburger steaks. The tilapia my mother ordered was dry & overcooked too! It used to be a good restaurant, maybe the bad cooks work on Thursdays! Very disappointed, it doesn't live up to the original Camille's who started the restaurant! Didn't even get a discount for the wait or bad food! read more

The place is unsanitary. Ordered food from there with a severely undercooked burger when I went to have lunch with my wife. Slow serving times. Loud profanity can be heard from the kitchen area. Too expensive for the quality of the food. I have also smelled the odor of alcohol on quite a few employees and management. I would never recommend anyone eating at this place. There are several places where you can get way better food and way better treatment and cheaper prices they rip people off! read more

I came here driving on a trip to Louisiana and they said they have great seafood and this was the first place I stopped. Portions are undistributed, asked service member how big platter was and they were dishonest with me saying that it was big, it indeed was not big at all, this is a big scam the prices are sky high and on top of that it was fried seafood with no warning and they put fries under all of the seafood to make the portion look big. Waitress did not give us good service and forgot about silverware. The final price was over $100 and it's unacceptable. Do not go here, it's ruining the Louisiana reputation. read more

I've been here many times and it is hit or miss. During crawfish season this place is great, but that's the only thing that deserves 5 stars. This place has been around forever. There aren't many choices around here so Im sure I will be back. On this we arrived around 5pn and were told to seat wherever we wanted. The waitress was friendly and quickly took our ordered and returned with our drinks. I chose the crab meat augratin. It was quite possibly the worst thing I've ever tasted. It was mostly lumpy floury goop. I looked for the crab but couldn't find much. Never again will I order this ... It was horrible. My fiance ordered a fried fish poboy and he enjoyed it. Stinky mushy foul boiled shrimp. Just don't do it. My hands reeked after eating. It was over seasoned, maybe to cover the poor quality of the food. Complaint received a $5 discount on a $22 order. After waiting an hour for our food while sitting at the bar we asked for it to be boxed up to go. All of a sudden it was ready to go in 5 min. Waitress asked my husband if he was mad. I'm guessing that Camile's Restaurant is just one of those places where it's either going to be a hit or a miss when it comes to they type of dining experience that you may have. I know many of my friends are wondering why on earth I was even in the middle of nowhere Erwinville, LA but they were in the passing of a road trip to New Orleans! On our way back to Dallas, TX my friend suggested that we stop and get some food but at least call it in ahead of time so we can eat quickly. Once we called and placed our order we were quoted about 25-30 minutes to have everything ready which was okay being that was approximately how far we were anyways. When we walked in our order was ready which was a plus but the question is how early did they actually have this done because my food was luke warm.. The steam from the to-go box dripped on my fried seafood combination platter which of course caused certain pieces to be soggy. If you are curious what this dinner includes: 4 Shrimp, 4 Oysters, 4 Catfish Fillets, and 6 Crab fingers all for $20.. Was it worth it? Nope.. My friends said that their orders were just okay as well so right there in the middle 3 stars is as good as it gets. read more

We went here for Mother's Day. (It was the 3rd time we had dined here) There were 5 of us in our party, 3 adults and 2 children. We ordered 3 entrees, an appetizer, soft drinks, and a piece of pie, which they ended up being out of. The service was extremely slow. (We arrived at about 4 PM and there were only 2-3 other tables) our check finally came and it was over $100. They had added a 20% gratuity. We asked why since there was only 5 of us. (My son has autism and wanted to eat when he got home, and my mother had already eaten and just got the pie) They said that they thought we might have 6 people so they automatically added it. My husband pointed out that there clearly wasn't 6 people at our table and we had not ordered food for 6 people. They told us that it was too late to take it off the bill that we should have told them before we ordered that we didn't have 6 people. My husband questioned their claim that they couldn't take it off and the manager demanded to know how much of a tip we had planned on leaving to begin with. She refused to take the gratuity off of our bill and we were forced to pay it. read more

Twist, Pull, and then Suck! That's how I was taught to eat boiled Crawfish at Camile's by a group of local South LA hosts who knew that they were talking about. My round metal plate contained 4 Pounds of Crawfish, and I'm sure I left a lot of meat on the plate. Yet, I achieved the desired results - a spicy tingling on my lips and lots of watering around my eyes. Camile's looks plain from the outside and has been around for a long while as a local road house type of place. Once inside, the atmosphere was neighborhood casual, the food was excellent, and the service was down home friendly, And when you consider how business trip experiences too often meld together in the sameness of indistinguishable hotel rooms and after-work restaurants, Camile's was an honest and authentic breath of fresh air. read more

I highly recommend for an authentic creole cajun meal. Stopped here on a whim and it was perfect. We had oysters for appetizer and they were very fresh. I had the seafood gumbo which comes with toasted French bread and potato salad. Hit the spot for sure. Jennifer was our waitress and she was great. She even gave us tips on where to stop for the best Cracklins on our way out of town. This will definitely be a staple in our trips between New Orleans and Fort Worth from here on out! Ordered a shrimp sampler plate and the boiled shrimp on the plate was obviously spoiled. The whole table could smell it. The first pot of ice tea tasted like coffee. We had to request a new pot to be made. The waitress came to refill my tea and after taking the glass she decides to go check the restrooms (with my glass). Just a plain horrible experience. Not great service. Totally different from most restaurants who would charge you $20 for a plate of shrimp and French fries. After a poor attitude I switched my order to something way less expensive. I won't be helping with there profit margin. The customer service needs improvement. You should speak to people when they walk in, have a good attitude, and set my expectation as to when my order will be ready. Opposed to just walking off and having an attitude when I ask about my order. Thought small town folk here would have been a lot more hospitable with 0 customers waiting. Worse experience ever!!!!! My husband ordered a Shrimp and crab AuGratin and it did not taste good at all. When he sent it back and exchanged it for red beans and rice, which was $7.00 cheaper they charged us for the full price of the Shrimp and Crab AuGratin. It seems that the Assistant Manager Pam instructed our waitress before she left to overcharge us. No one left in the restaurant seem to have the authority to charge us the correct amount.
