I asked about specific details of a dish before I ordered it and was told one thing--but the dish arrived totally different than what was explained. Very very subpar. Service subpar. This place was highly recommended to me as the best catfish in Zachary. I've actually eaten here twice as of now and the first time I ordered the fish plate to go. It was ok but I felt like the temperature was lost due to me not eating it right there. So I came back to dine in and after-- Let me say this first, I don't think I'd eat inside again. This was the second time the staff looked at me like I was in the movie "Get Out"....just weird greetings like they weren't too happy to serve and no real appreciation or effort to captivating a brand new customer who has no idea about the inner workings of the establishment. Just got really pissy about how you just grab a menu and sit wherever. No initial direction either about how you serve your own drinks either like oh my goodness can I just get a little help. This was my first dine in experience at this restaurant. Also the flies in the establishment were ridiculous especially around the drink station. This visit, I ordered the catfish and sautéed veggies. The veggies had an overwhelming salt/butter flavor and was not a nice and light sautéed bite. Veggies were ruined. The catfish was above average but far from the best I've ever had. It was seasoned ok but it was cut so thin they might as well just start selling them as fish skin chips. You may say I'm exaggerating but the way they cut the fish leaves no appreciation for the meat itself at all. The house tartar sauce was really good though and helped the fish. The flies got so bad in the restaurant I just took my things to go as my appetite for the place was getting shattered by the second. So based on comparing their fish to other restaurants in the area, this could be in the running for best catfish in Zachary but I do not share the same conviction at all with the nice man who turned backflips raving about Hot Tails' catfish. South plains food company and surprisingly lagniappe are pushing them hard based on my catfish experiences now with all of them. I will need to revisit lagniappe. Good food but lacking in customer service. Im not a fan of "order at the counter and tip before you're served". Asking for a tip prior to service is ridiculous. I did not tip and Im glad I didn't because once my food came I was never checked on or asked if I needed anything else. Start taking orders at the table, check on your customers, and your tips might increase. read more

Ordered crab cake sandwich. The crab cake was very over cooked. It was as hard as a hockey puck. I explained the to the waitress who said "oh, I'll tell the kitchen". Nothing was done to adjust bill or replace food. Very poor customer service. read more

The food was fresh and delicious. We ordered the shrimp poboy and potato salad. The bread for the poboy was very fresh, soft with a slight crunch. The potatoes salad was creamy with just enough potato chunks to make it not mash potatoes. The pepper jelly salad with shrimp was my husband favorite and the onion rings were well seasoned and nicely fried. The shrimp kids meal and the chicken tender kids meal was awesome. My crew tore it up. The blackened chicken wrap was my girls favorite. She couldn't finish the fries because she didn't want to stop eating the wrap. The bathroom was clean and smelled nice. The restaurant was clean. However it took several times for them to remember to bring our sauce (off the hook sauce) and to bring our dessert which was the T-boys special and it was absolutely worth bugging them to bring. Loved the place in New Roads. Food at Zachary is good. I have eaten in the restaurant and to go. Love the onion rings, po boys, and burgers. Why one less star - drinks are not as good as the New Roads location. The Zachary takeout window service needs work (more training). The staff immediately asks for a tip but fails to inquire about sauces needed with your order. read more

One is not like the other...yet. Hopefully growing-pains are a contributing factor to the sad shrimp po-boy and fish po-boy I received this evening. Plenty of protein on the always soft bread but the lettuce and extremely paper-thin and basically non-existent tomatoes were puzzling. Funny story, after pointing out the lack of lettuce and tomatoes to the waitress, who like me was perplexed, she did return with a "piece" of another basically nonexistent tomato which mad it comical. The vibe was decent and I'm hopeful that they turn it around before the building becomes vacated once again. read more

This must be the only Cajun seafood restaurant in the South that refuses to blacken anything but shrimp and chicken. "Not allowed" to blacken catfish. Even for folks with food allergies that can't handle the batter. "Not allowed" to drop crawfish in the fryer without batter. Totally ridiculous. If you've got any type of food allergy just expect that they're "not allowed" to make it so that you can eat there. read more

Had lunch yesterday at Hot Tails in Zachary, food pretty good but WAY TOO SPICY.....fish very thin & not enough, oysters very small & over cooked. Hard to eat. Won't order oysters again but fish alright. Highly recommend the crawfish bread, delicious ! They are kinda pricey so be careful what you order if on limited income. Like Hot Tails in New Roads food better & love the drive. read more

This service is great. The only thing is they bring you your utensils. They tell you where to sit but they do not take your order or fix your drink. Later in your meal time, they come around asking you if you would like some more drink. I ordered, a roast beef Poboy,. It barely had, any meat on it at all. It had more lettuce, Onions, condiments. And one of the condiments, I can't believe they put pickles on a roast beef sandwich. They need to add more meat and less vegetables. I will not order that again again. I did enjoy their french fries, but they put too many in my plate. I guess to fill you up! We ordered a appetizer, fried mushrooms. They were very good. read more

Wow. 10/10. We just happened to stop by this new location and found incredible food, atmosphere and service for our first trip! Had the shotgun shrimp appetizer, followed up with shrimp poboy, bread was crispy outside with soft center and perfectly fried gulf shrimp. We can't wait to go back! read more
