I have never had to give a Yelp review on a place because I have never been so unsatisfied with somewhere, until now. Let me start with this piece of advice, do not live here. If you are considering ACC housing, ie Camino, VDC, VDCN, consider VDCN grad. You do not have to be a grad student to live there and you get guest parking which is basically right outside your house. My advice would be to find your friends and live off campus in a house, less expensive and less rules. Let me start my review on Camino. Firstly, Camino del Sol is the most expensive housing out of all the ACC housing communites. Yes, you get your own room and potentially can pay to have your own bathroom but it costs a lot. Bringing a car? Forget about it, you will be paying $300 a quarter to park in a garage that is a 10 minute walk away. Bringing groceries or anything else is a HUGE hassle. Yes, there is technically "guest" parking but it is only for 20 minutes and it is very limited, especially on the weekends. Even think about parking there for more than 20 minutes and UCI police will write you a nice $52 ticket and don't even think about parking in the staff parking spots(which there are more of than guest) and they'll write you up for $68! The build quality of these "cookie-cutter" homes is horrendous. If anyone in a one apartment radius gets out of bed you can hear them due to the thin carpets and paper walls. You may think "it's not that bad" but wait till you live there for a year, which you will because you're bounded to a year long contract. I will admit that it is nice having a washer/dryer unit in each house, even if it does sound like the apocalypse is happening every time. If you like grilling, get ready to go for a hike because even though there are very nice Viking grills outside of each house they RARELY work and you'll have to hunt one down within the entire community that works. I have put work orders in for them multiple times and they have yet to be fixed. What else? The list is never ending. Never any hot water in the kitchen sink or bathroom sinks, which is extremely frustrating, but I guess that's what you get when water is "included." The staff. Most of them have no idea about anything going on. If you have a question and go to the main lobby to ask all they will do is hand you the generic business card that has the ACC main line email, no name attached to it. So you email them and expect a quick response right? WRONG. They will take days to respond to you if they even respond in the first place. The fact that the main lobby has printers that you can use and a monthly 150 page limit is a very nice idea, IF THEY EVERY HAD THE PRINTERS WORKING. I swear every time I have to print something out, the printers are never working and then they have you send it to whoever is working at the front desk so they can print it for you. 1. That is a huge hassle & 2. There are some things that I don't want being in someone elses email. If you are thinking of living here make sure you live with people you know because living with randoms is terrible. If you are over 21 and DO decide to live with randoms, MAKE SURE TO REQUEST HOUSEMATES THAT ARE OVER 21, otherwise they will cite you for having alcohol in the fridge even if you're the only one drinking it because your housemates are underage. Usually you have your group of friends set and if you decide to throw even the smallest party, one of them will call you in for a noise complaint. If you happen to get chill housemates don't worry, one of the other houses around you will call you in for a noise complaint even if it is only 9 pm on a Friday. You'll get one warning and then the next time the police will show up at your doorstep and you'll be cited. Have this happen enough times and they'll even threaten you to have a meeting with the dean of students. The few pros of living at camino are that there are a lot of anteater express buses on Arroyo Drive to shuttle you, but then again the apartments around UTC and campus also have buses that shuttle you. If you happen to be on campus past 11 pm studying, I hope you brought some nice walking shoes because it is a good 30 minute walk once the buses stop running. Much easier to live in UTC. The community "aesthetically" looks nice, but what is the point if it sucks to live in? The hot tub is the nicest out of all the communities but you get access to all the club houses no matter which development you choose to live in . I hope this review has been substantial enough for you not to live in Camino del Sol, and if it hasn't and you decide to live here next year, I'm sure I'll be seeing a review like this from you on here in about a year. read more

HOLY ANTS BATMAN! No but really. The ant problem here in the summer is absolutely terrible! All they do is give you a bottle of RAID to use on it. Why not some PREVENTION Camino!? Would it not be cheaper to have someone spray every week than to have people filing work orders to deal with the ants in their apartments? (They claimed they received ove a 100 work orders the first week of this quarter.) And the walls are super thin. You get what you're paying for and in comparison to the other apartments, I think you would be getting a good deal. The apartments are fully furnished and it's convenient having a washer/dryer inside the apartment. Depending on your location in camino you're pretty close to at least two shuttle stops. The only two things to really complain about is that you have to park at the arc unless you find someone in AV to buy your permit and the CA's will definitely write you up when you're trying to throw a party. read more

They're new, and also in Irvine so they look nice as you'd expect. Walls are very thin so expect to hear everything, also, as you'd expect. Within the Apartment Not a big fan of the furniture provided. The desk, kitchen table and chairs(if you have a unit with one instead of bar stools), the coffee tables and end tables are surprisingly sturdy. The leather couches are not comfortable at all and stick to your skin. The chairs provided in rooms break easily. The dish washer does a mediocre job. One of my burners on my stove top went out and I placed a work order. They said to just "mess with it" and then it'll work. Which was annoying. I don't like to have to mess with it every time I want to cook. I'd prefer real carpet instead of the kind you'd expect to find in a classroom. The faux hardwood floors down stairs is nice looking, but gets sticky easily. No ice machine within the fridge. The blinds break easily, and I only have one window in my room, thus a lack of good airflow so my room is always stuffy. The bathroom and kitchen HAVE HARDLY ANY DRAWERS. This is extremely annoying. My silverware tray didn't fit, good luck finding one that does. What I do love is having a washer and dryer within my unit. Community Amenities The pool and jacuzzi are salt water, which I really like. The pool is really shallow though, only 4' deep at the ends. The gym is small and gets stuffy, but it's nice not always having to go to the ARC. The study rooms are nice, and you can reserve them most of the time, wish they had large white boards however. The computer/printer room is available most of the time yet the printers are often down. and getting the computers to connect to them is sometimes difficult. The social and game room are nice but the air hockey and pool tables aren't in the best shape. Parking Damn I hate parking. So expensive and it's at least a 5 minute walk to the parking structure if you walk fast. Have guests over? they have to park there too and pay $14 if they'd like a 24hr pass. There's 20 minutes parking by the front of Camino but it gets filled because people park there for long amount of time and just accept the tickets they get. Camino staff The camino staff is the one place where I feel like the community shines. If you're kind and respectful they're always willing to help and try to get you what you need. The management is always extremely nice. The Community Advisors often put on community events which are often fun and you can get some free food. Who doesn't like free food? As a whole I like the location, atmosphere, staff, and overall niceness of Camino. But it is very expensive, overpriced I believe, and if it wasn't for the parking situation I would've chosen to live here again. read more

Staff is friendly and somewhat helpful however, their leasing staff is very unhelpful in accommodating their residents. I renewed my lease late and called to ask if it was possible to keep the same space for convenience purposes. Christian, the employee on the line, gave me rude responses with lots of attitude. I explained to him that after my lease ended I have a new lease that starts two weeks later, inquiring would it be possible to avoid the hassle of me moving all of my stuff out and having to move back in two weeks later by keeping me in the same room that way it also saves their staff some time from having to check an extra room. He said there is no possible way and kept arguing with me, raising his voice as the conversation went on. I then responded that I will follow up in a few months and he replies that when I call I will receive the same response. There was much attitude in his voice for he didn't try to understand where I was getting at and by the end of our conversation I was mildly annoyed from his rude responses. ACC leasing staff has no respect for their residents, and are not accommodating at all for students who are inquiring about their leases and trying to avoid complications. read more

I lived here for the entire two years I went to UCI so I feel like I've had enough time to develop enough opinions on this place. Let's start with the pros: Camino is arguably the nicest of all the ACC apartments for obvious reasons. Aesthetically, it just looks nice. When you are walking through the place it looks as if you are staying in some resort, definitely not college housing. Everything is always really clean and well maintained. So, that's nice I guess. "The lodge," or the community center has a staff at the front desk which are typically other students serving as community assistants (CA's) and are almost always friendly and helpful. There is a pool/hot tub area that also looks really nice but I never used (I mean really, what college student has time to just lounge by a pool all day?) followed by an upstairs area with a big game room and a few different study rooms that you can sometimes find empty (expect during finals week lol good luck). Finally, there is a computer room which I feel like is what students get the most use out of. I think what attracts students to Camino is the fact that every single floor plan has single bedrooms and depending on your floor plan, you can also have your own bathroom. So yes, it's fancy. I lived in the 4 bed 4.5 bath floor plan. Since it's newer housing, the apartments are pretty clean and in good condition. Living in Camino gives you very close (like walking distance, super close) access to the ARC which is really nice if you like to frequent the gym it makes it very convenient so you don't have to take a shuttle or drive like if you lived in UTC. Now for the cons: As other reviews have mentioned, the walls are super thin because they used to cheapest possible materials to build this place. I could always hear my housemates below me talking on their phones, watching videos on their laptop, climbing the stairs, sliding a closet door, flushing a toilet, and I could even hear people all the way down in the kitchen/ living room area. This proved to be a big challenge for me since I'm such a light sleeper so if you are anything like me then you are going to need to tell your housemates to keep it down. The lights tend to be dim everywhere in the apartment. I would really recommend getting a lamp to put on the side table/ desk to brighten the room up, especially for studying. If you prefer mattresses that are even somewhat soft and comfortable, then get a mattress topper. The mattresses literally feel like BRICKS they are the worst. I don't know what I would have done if I didn't get a comfortable thick topper. Depending on your floor plan you might find the parking structure too far for you which can be a pain in the ass if you need constant access to your car (like daily) I would then suggest requesting a unit that's close to the parking structure so you won't have to walk that far. And yes, parking is extremely expensive. You pay per quarter and it comes out to almost about $1,000 for the year. I know people who didn't even bring their cars with them because of the cost alone. Obviously so expensive. Rent literally goes up every year expect if you renew your lease it stays the same. I know my housemates my second year were paying more than me. There One thing that really irritated me was the whole computer room/ printer situation. I feel like this is one of the resources that students use so often because really who brings their own printer with them. But there almost always was something wrong with the printer i.e, broken or out of ink or whatever. Like they really can't supply the room with more printers? Over 1,000 students live there and they only have TWO printers? You can imagine what this room looks like during busy times like finals week lol the printer is like leave me alone I'm broken for life. Instead of investing all this money and energy into up-keeping swimming pools and whatnot, they should really install some more durable printers. They really need to get this issue sorted. Students are there to study not swim!! Couch in the common area is also really uncomfortable to sit on, the cushions literally fly out. I fell asleep on it once by accident and woke up feeling like every bone in my body was broken. Nice fancy toilets that I never had an issue with it getting clogged. Oh yeah, and in unit washer and dryer is SO nice I can't even explain. To only have to share a washer and dryer with a max of 3 other people is awesome. No having to take dirty laundry somewhere to get washed and wait for it to be done. Or even worse, pay to wash your clothes. Overall, the pros outweighed the cons for me. I felt like I got a lot of privacy here and the biggest plus was having my own room and bathroom. I'll just throw in my two cents. Camino Del Sol is a rather nice and beautiful place to live during your time at UCI. But do not let the aesthetics deceive you. On the inside, it's a whole different story. Back in June of 2013, I moved into a unit that was very dirty and there was trash all over the common area. When I first unlocked the door to my room, I found it to be dirty as well. From the huge smothers of saliva all over the closet mirror to the rather dirty bathroom, my first impressions of Camino were not that great. Oh yeah, and my bathtub was clogged with hair and the shower head's water pressure was very low. So much for Camino's move in ready standards. I submitted a work order and one of the maintenance guys took care of the bathtub. But I ended up cleaning up the dirty mess left behind by the previous resident. Then later on, the ants came! They were a pain in the butt to get rid of since poison didn't always deter them away. Eventually, they disappeared and never came back and I was happy about that. Hence the two star rating instead of just one star. The only pests that roam around my apartment were spiders, fruit flies, and a few silverfish but they were not as bad as the ants. The room you get is rather quite small. You gotta move your bed and drawers around to make more room. But at least you can walk around in your room. That's good. The thin walls. Yes it's a problem if you can't sleep with noise at night. I had a loud roommate right above me so I could hear every word he spoke. Depending on where you live in Camino, it can get pretty dark in the apartment unless if you have adequate lighting. I had to keep the lights on all the time in the apartment because I absolutely hate it when it's dark during the day time. Some people are lucky because the sun fully lights up their place, hence the name Camino Del Sol. The price. Well, it's Camino Del Sol and the prices can average $900 and above depending on your floor plan. I paid $929 a month and I know people that pay more than I did even though they had the same floor plan as me, which was the 4 bedroom, 4.5 bathroom layout. If you can't afford that price, better look elsewhere. The internet connection was sub-par. You're pretty much stuck with a 5Mbps or 1MB/s max connection from Cox. I mean you can live with it, but sometimes the internet connection might have a mind of its own. Sometimes it will cut out randomly and your ping might spike up really high at times which is really annoying. It was bearable and I lived with it just fine. But for the price that your paying a month, you would expect a much faster and stable internet connection. That's not the case unfortunately. I had my own router and its recommended that you bring your own router if you want WiFi in your apartment. Oh yeah, and if you're coming from the dorms, none of that Cisco NAC Agent crap exists at Camino or any of the ACC apartments. Thank God. Having your own washer and dryer is very handy. If you're wondering, the dryer is electric and it's hooked up to a 240V outlet. It's just a nice fact to know. Except for the fact that our washer was leaking water all the time which contributed to mold problems. I placed a work order and maintenance never fixed the problem for some reason. Utilities are included including electricity. However, the deal with the electricity is if you go over the cap limit, which is $120 a month, then you will be required to pay the difference. The only time I went over the cap limit was over the summer when we had the AC on all the time. Other than that, me nor my roommates have not gone over the cap limit ever since. Cable is included as well and if i remember correctly, it also comes with some premium HBO channels which is cool too. If you have your own car, be prepared to pay $264/quarter for parking at the ARC parking structure. And yes there are some careless drivers in the structure too so I recommend having a dash cam on your car otherwise chances are you might find yourself in an accident with no evidence of the person who hit you at fault and even worse, a fraudulent situation. There have been lots of cases where someone hits a parked car and leaves the scene without leaving a note or any contact information. Kinda like a hit and run situation. Heck I remember someone left a note with a fake number on someones car. Person was not happy with that and paying thousands in body work repairs out of their own pocket since they had no evidence or anything to provide to their insurance agents. So save yourself the trouble and get a dash cam installed on your car if you do park in the ARC parking structure. Or pretty much anywhere at UCI. Overall, I kind of enjoyed my experience at Camino Del Sol. I wouldn't live here ever again if I had the choice. I'd go to the UTC apartments or even Park West. Pros are the short distance from the ARC and the UCI campus. Cons are the price and build quality of the apartment. Seriously. read more

Ok folks, just finishing up my first year as a transfer in UCI & living at CDS. In all fairness, Camino Del Sol is a beautiful community and offers a lot. The price to live here is steep but I feel is reasonably and competitively priced, if we compare the perks to other apartments. I originally gave a 3/5 but changed it to 2/5 once i heard they raised their prices across the board. CDS has its high points and low points but nothing in between. Let me break it down. -Yes, the walls are paper thin and you will hear everything from people walking outside, neighbors walking up&down stairs, roomies telephone conversations, and roomies & neighbors "dirty" deeds in bed. Most notably its proximity from the ARC & AV, you'll hear ARC shenanigans & AV Greek Sororities cheering all eff-ing day during Rush week. -Wash & Dry has been reliable and convenient. Especially since utility bills towards it are included in with your monthly rent. -counter tops in the bathrooms & kitchen are aesthetically pleasing to look at but fake. Fake granite counter tops. -Housing comes fully furnished. Good or bad, its debatable. I found it convenient since I didn't have to haul drawers and etc moving in & out. -townhouse; walking up 4 flights of stairs is a nuisance if you live on the 3rd/final floor. -Only the top floors have ceiling fans in the 3 story town homes. it was very functional, and I rarely needed the AC. Can't say for the same for those in the 2nd floor. -Refrigerator is terribly too small for a house of 4. FYI, get yourself a mini fridge. -Television & Internet has been above acceptable for me. -Shuttle; transportation is free and reliable. Buses travel around the clock in small gaps in between each stop. -Community perks are cool, i guess. its debatable, but eff it, paying over 780+ bucks so make use of it. Computer Lab (free printing, Internet), Entertainment Room, Private study rooms, Fitness Center, Pool, Jacuzzi, and all that cool Jazz. -Parking. OM-goodness, parking. Parking at CDS is terrible. You pay the same price for parking as would VDC & VDC-Norte but lucky us, we walk an additional 10 minutes (depending on where your house is located). Nonetheless, be prepared to MARCH, MARCH, and use those legs. Seriously, parking is TERRIBLE & Camino doesn't give a fart. Parking at the ARC, the fee paid the first of every quarter making the first month's rent easily 1000 bucks. 850-ish +225. Yeah! BS right? -Lease contracts are binding, once signed, you've basically sold your soul. You can't pay your way out, cry your way out, or call your boyfriend or daddy to cuss his way out because that lease is binding. The only way is to prove your officially no longer a UCI student and/or dismissed from UCI. -maintenance: ran into little issues since the entire complex is new but whenever I did need assistance the maintenance dudes or fixer uppers we're pretty reliable. although creepy looking, i didn't notice them bothering or creepin' on residents. -community staff: Are so-so, hit & miss, whatevs. Generally friendly. Don't rely on them for information, kinda-sorta a one ear, goes out the other kinda thing. If you need facts call the person in charge directly whether it bookkeeping, Leasing, and all that jazz. That all about sums it up! I'm sure I've missed some talking points but I'm confident I've covered the very necessary areas for those serious in signing with CDS. Lastly, my advice, Camino Del Sol offers a lot but really sit down and decide if what CDS has to offer REALLY is necessary for you. In example, do you really need your own room? Do you really need a private bathroom? Even though you'll be hardly home and involved on campus or with work. You get the gist. **The only thing I firmly suggest is to not pay for parking. $225 parking that is roughly a 10 minute walk is garbage. **Telephone reception is terrible. Looking to cut costs? End any sort of mobile plan you have before you live here because reception is horrible. read more

this is my second review of this place. i still think this place is awful, but i must add that even the staff is terrible. right before moving out, i was told that i had not paid my parking fee for summer and that i have received a late fee. i called the office to ask what to do about this, and the man at the desk told me to pay it anyways and it would be returned. i thought that was a dumb idea so i walked in the next day and was told to e-mail the leasing office. i did this and never got a reply. shows how professional they are since i was told different things and that the leasing office never even replied. so a few days later, i was sitting outside the lodge with my dog, when a very rude girl told me that i had to leave the premises because my dog was not allowed. i told her i was about to leave anyways once my ride arrived, but she said she had to watch me leave. she said i had 5 minutes to leave or else i would be charged a fine. my dog growled at her and i praised him... but i've seen dogs walking around a LOT and the staff never said anything before, and i even know that a girl had a dog living with her in camino. mine was just visiting and was outside, not even in an apartment. another thing.. my boyfriend got into a car accident in the parking structure. i've seen a few accidents in there.. they really need to put mirrors or do something about it, you can't see around the corners. $255/quarter for an unsafe parking structure? this place is full of problems and unfriendly, useless staff. it really isn't worth the money. Nice community, walls are pretty thin, most of the cardio equipment in the lodge is out of order or some have rust on it, but work orders are done really fast Samir always comes in and fixes our problems really fast and explains why they happened which is also nice to know. Everyone at UCI knows Camino has the best facilities and is overall better, but I guess the price is a little more than other living arrangements. My friend from Norte was pretty surprised at how nice the lodge is. I don't have a printer because they have computers and printers for residents to use. I sometimes use the study rooms and use the shuttle service everyday. It's nice to have the pool, gym, and BBQs. Someone said that staff was slow but I haven't had any problems and I've never had to wait more than a minute. Someone else said it's claustrophobic to be bound to this apartment for a year, but I don't really feel that way. Wherever you live, on campus/off, you will be "bound" unless it's month to month, but that's generally higher pricing anyways. I have the 4 bedroom 4.5 bath floor plan and it's great. I personally renewed my lease when they gave us the option so I'm here for two years! I was planning to live off campus because it would be cheaper but my dad helped me make my decision to stay. 1- If I were to live off campus I would have to find a roommate and worry about them making rent and making sure ends meet every single month. If I were to move in with a friend and there was a problem, the friendship would be ruined----so it would be better to live with a stranger(but a stinger could be dangerous, etc)! 2- Living off campus I would have to leave the house early to make room if I hit traffic, can't find a parking space, etc, and time is money. 3- I would have to pay for parking every month at the UCI campus, whereas in Camino yes you have to pay for parking, but it's not completely necessary to have a car since you can rely on friends and the shuttle. 4-The price for gas to commute------ depends on your car/distance. 5- Utilities (electricity, water, tv, internet) are included which would be 50 to 100 extra if you live off campus. 6- You can put in work orders if something goes wrong. My sink exploded from my mistake using the garbage disposal and it was fixed immediately, no cost. 7- Camino is SAFE. I'm not afraid to walk around at night just because it's calm and I don't think there has ever been any crazy things happening. Maybe some people don't think this is worth it or Camino is over priced, blah, blah, blah, but when you add up all the extra little things of living off campus, it's so much more convenient to just live on campus and Camino is the best choice. To me, it's so much better to not have to worry about all of the above instead of penny pinching and trying to save money on rent when it will really end up being the same. And when you have decided to live on campus, I would recommend Camino because I think it's the best compared to the other choices. I hope my decision to live and stay (two years for sure, maybe more) in Camino will help anyone else make their decision too! read more

Its nice of course but not worth the $850+ a month rent. good things: The community is really beautiful, looks like a resort (like Norte and VDC). Community center is nice with free printing, free paper, a big bbq and pool area. Lots of bamboo and clean walkways outside :) you get your own single room, which is pretty big for one person. Also get a washer and dryer which is really convenient. Bad things: The apartments themselves are nearly brand new and polished but like i said they are still not worth the super high rent. The walls, floors, and ceilings are SUPER THIN just like at VDC Norte so don't expect any quality sound insulation or anything. Its just as loud and echo-y as Norte. If you live on the 2nd floor like me, the person living directly above you will walk around their room and it will be LOUD as HELL so get used to that. Also, there are just too many stairs in my opinon, if you have the 4 bedroom 2-bathroom layout. Living on the 3rd floor you have to go up 4 staircases just to get to your room and back down to the kitchen. Heating and air conditioning did NOT WORK for the second floor bedrooms but they worked really well for the 3rd floor rooms. We put in work orders to fix this but they said that it can't be fixed, this is just the way it is--its just a crappy air system. Also, when you cook food in the kitchen, the smell goes straight through the vents up to the 3rd floor bedrooms. read more

This place is livable, but expensive. If you're willing to pay $800+ for a private bedroom (and the option of a private bath) this is probably your best bet out of all the ACC communities. It is also the newest. The other reviewers did a good job of listing most of the pros and cons. I will only mention a few more to be thorough. Pros + Electricity fees included in rent + Cable with HBO channels + Since it's a town home, you basically own a small section of the bigger building. There are less shared walls thus fewer chances for your loud neighbors to bother you. + If you get an apartment closer to the Arroyo Vista/Norte side of the community, you have the option of taking 3 different shuttle routes to get to campus. This is especially useful since the shuttles hardly ever arrive as scheduled, so if you miss one you can probably catch another one without having to wait for too long. Cons - Sound proofing is virtually non-existent, as with all ACC communities. If people are outside your apartment talking, you will hear their conversation. You will also hear the muffled conversations of your apartment-mates living next to and above you. - The central lighting in the bedrooms is pretty pathetic. Plan to bring some other light source. - Since I lived next to one of the outdoor grills, I was CONSTANTLY bothered by loud, drunk, overly obnoxious, and even regular people at all times of the day and night hanging out outside my place. - There are a LOT of apartments cramped into a relatively small area, so don't expect the peace and quiet to last too long. - Parking is atrociously far. Consider all your options carefully before you choose to live here, because the lease you sign is binding and you will not be able to break it once you sign it. If you do decide to live here, my suggestions are as follows: - If you have a car, try to request an apartment closer to the parking structure. - If you have a car, you may be eligible for parking in the VDC Norte parking lot. There is a stop for the Main Campus shuttle located on California Ave across the street from the ARC that is a walk-able distance from the community, granted the proximity of your apartment to it. - (If this kind of thing matters to you) request a bedroom with the extra windows and the window in the bathroom! read more

[I have been living in my 4/4.5 for almost a year and regarding roommates 1) They didn't notify us that someone was already living here (renewing) before my roommate and I moved in. 2) They didn't notify us that we would have someone moving in mid-year. 3) They allowed someone to sublet their room to TWO people. They "had no record of this" and said, "it must have been done under the table". They didn't do anything about it for two weeks, and just simply made the two people ask me to sign a paper saying it's "okay" with me. Still, there's two people living there. Camino del Sol is a waste of money and not worth the expensive rent that they charge. Let's first state the worst fake leather couch, which is impossible to sit on. The fake wood floors and the terrible furniture, makes it only look good, but are the most impractical form of items you will ever use. The parking is like a mile away and bringing your groceries is like doing a marathon. They have excessive fees and have paper thin walls. So, just don't go here, just don't. REGRET, REGRET, REGRET...I really regret not reading these reviews before signing the lease for a townhouse at Camino del Sol. On the day I moved in, I immediately wanted to move out. I felt trapped because the Camino staff told me I cannot breach the contract even though I was willing to lose my security deposit. After you become a resident, the Camino staff treats you like trash and pieces of rotten meat. Before I signed the lease, I had asked to see the actual townhouse, rather than just looking at the floor plan. But the office staff said there were no empty rooms available for me to see. I thought that since Camino is part of UCI's off-campus housing, I would be able to trust the quality of Camino's services and helpfulness of the staff. Seeing the townhouse for the first time, I was extremely disappointed. Everything was dirty--not clean as I had expected. I had to talk to the manager of Camino, who told the cleaning and maintenance crew to come. The cleaning and maintenance crew are the only nice and helpful staff at Camino. I live on the second floor of the townhouse, and when I walk across the room, the floorboards bounce. It's not worth it to pay to live in a cardboard house. The floor plan is stupid--all the beds are facing the door. I'd really like to know who designed this floor plan. My bedroom is also very dim and feels crowded. It'll be very uncomfortable for me to live here for this school year. Luckily, I am only trapped here for one year. I actually give this place MINUS TEN STARS. read more

The admins are extremely rude and tend to talk down to students. Don't think about having some friends over either, because they will force you to write an essay about "crowd control"! Let me star off by saying that from the outside, camino looks beautiful. Also the gym isnt bad. Pool/hot tub is nice and the bbq setup is useful and good looking also. Cleaning crew come weekly to clean the bbq which is usually coated with korean bbq sauce daily. Oh, and the dyson air blade is awsome. Now, still Camino del sol has to be the worst housing community to pick from after VDC and Norte. (they are the same just lesser living conditions) The staff literally are just there to suck every little penny out of each resident. Rent is inflated and rising each year (~$900 month) plus $250 for parking which is located half a mile a way from some residents. If you say that you MAY want to park, and they include it in your lease, you will be stuck paying the $250 each quarter even if you dont register a car. (PS. after many emails you can "undo" the parking from your lease, so keep on emailing them!) Printers hardly ever work and you only get 10 sheets of paper... The build quality is horrible. I can hear my roommate scratch his buttocks from upstairs, LITERALLY! Wont be surprised if the buildings begin to crumble after 5 more years. It took the admin more than a year to fix a simple wifi issue, which shows how concerned they are for the residents. MY fridge decides to make knocking noises already, and its only 1 year old. Camino refuses to even attempt to fix the problem. Overall, if the rent was ~$550-600, I wouldnt complain much. Terrible Customer Service! They are not flexible or helpful at all if you are moving in from a out town. I moved here from San Francisco and the communication was terrible. They are not willing to negotiate move in dates or time, instead of talking to you they will simply say its policy. Considering that you pay for two months rent ahead of time you'd think they may to work things out case by case or think about the people who move from far away. Nope. I will admit my situation was unique but they did nothing to help me out instead i slept in my car out waiting for my key to be released to me.Also if you're planning on moving in alone it is tough because if you don't get your stuff in the house within 30mins you will get a ticket. Parking cost 295 and its literally a good 5min walk from the complex. So if you move in to sub lease not on the established day where they open the emergency road you will have to walk with all you shit up hill. Personal i would look into other options around the area they my be more helpful for a easy moving process. The front desk people always seem pre occupied with training someone new or answering phone calls to properly have a helpful dialogue. Other than that the town homes are small so if you over 21 years old and have lived in your own place its a down grade for sure. The stove tops are terrible so plan on getting used to that and the ac doesn't evenly work in every room. Overall they will not work with you so know what you're getting into. read more

everything that everyone else has said is true, so no need to reiterate. just adding my experience: I had HORRIBLE roommates. they didn't even try to match us up. My roommate's boyfriend parked his motorcycle in my house. I complained to the office, they said there wasn't anything they could do. Then, the maintenance guy (the only nice person who worked there) saw him moving the motorcycle into the house and we got a preemptive "eviction" type notice. AFTER I HAD ALREADY COMPLAINED. I lodged another complaint, claiming that i had already complained, and wasn't going to let them evict me over this, and stated that there were damages due to the motorcycle in the apartment. you know what the head lady said, "tough shit" when i moved out they found so many "problems" with my room i finally told the lady i got it like that WITH SHEETROCK IN THE WINDOWSILLS, and paint on the floor. my blinds had never worked. I told her if she wrote me up for those things she would be violating the room condition report that was signed at the beginning of the year. She claimed mine was "lost", conveniently. So I threatened to report them to the BBB, and call my lawyer. She then, coolly, finished, charged me 50$ of fines on my move out, and I gave her the keys. Fast forward 2 weeks: I get a letter with a check in it "returning" my security deposit. They gave me back LESS than 1/4 of my initial fee. Why? because apparently I was late on rent for the last 2 months. I had documentation to show I wasn't . they did not ever return my fees or my calls. THIS PLACE IS A FRAUD. THEY STEAL YOUR MONEY AT THE END OF THE YEAR AND SHOULD BE REPORTED TO THE BBB! THEY TAKE ADVANTAGE OF STUDENTS WHO DON'T KNOW THEIR LEGAL RIGHTS. Many of their workers are not well versed in their own company policy, and definitely display an unwillingness to help the customer/guest. Camino Del Sol focuses their services and units to undergraduate students, yet their leasing officers tell you differently via telephone, and openly encourage graduate/PhD students to apply to their community. I called 4 times and spoke to 4 different agents who worked at the front desk about the possibility of signing a lease. All 4 of the workers (withholding names out of respect) advised me to send in an application because they do offer opportunities for graduate students. So I did just that, and paid the online security deposit ($250). Upon arriving to the office, I met with the general manager who informed me that Camino Del Sol only provides their services to undergraduates, although their own employees advised me to go through with the application process since they had a lease readily available for me. Not only was I not assisted. I requested they refund my security deposit back, and they informed me that I would have to wait 3-4 weeks for a check in the mail for my refund. I should NOT have to wait that long, since it was their own employees who have caused this huge misunderstanding. Now I am short $300 for the month, and won't get it back well until next month. I highly suggest that they retrain their workers, not only in company policy, but proper etiquette and guest services. Half of them don't even politely greet you as you walk in, yet most of their employees are full time students who are attending college in order to get a job in the professional world...I'm not sure whether this should be blamed on the student employees for misinforming their clients, or to the management department for not properly training their own team. But CDS should read these reviews as a reminder to increase their quality of service. If I could give zero stars I would. This place makes you think it's really nice by it's over the top lodge and pool, but there's a reason they only give "virtual tours." Not only do they not take care of the place by preparing it for new movers and cleaning, the staff is full of people that try to rob you of every penny you have in whatever shape or form. After my roommates and I moved into our apartment we were missing a cable box. We talked to the front desk within the first week of move in and they had no idea what we were talking about and made us call the cable company to figure out what was going on. The cable company couldn't help us. Camino didn't care to help us. After months of this struggle, Camino (headed by a dreadful woman named Kiyomi) accused us of lying about having the cable box stashed somewhere in one of our rooms and had to come over and check. While she was there she saw a recently gifted fish in our living room in a tank literally the size of a mason jar and grilled my roommate about whose it was. She told us she would have to fine us a whopping $100 pet charge for having it. We had received it as a gift (what were we supposed to do...murder it?) from a school sponsored organization and it was causing absolutely no harm to the space. The spilling of this fish tank would have been the same as spilling a glass of water on the floor. Kiyomi also wouldn't have seen it if her staff had attended to our cable box problem in a timely manner and not accused us of stealing it. I sent this all in a letter disputing the fine and not only did she not care, she actually took the time to write a scathing letter back to me about why we were in the wrong. This woman obviously hates her life, herself, and her job. After all this mess, they actually tried to fine us for the cable box saying we got a newer one than the other apartments so we should pay. I DON'T THINK SO! DO NOT waste your money on this place. They're lying, deceiving people that will worsen your experience at UCI. HEED THE WARNING. read more

The price of the apartments is on the cheaper end of the spectrum which is a plus. There is a very nice grilling area outside of every apartment plus a pool and small gym at the clubhouse, but every housing community in Irvine has access to pools, gyms, and study rooms.They are fully furnished and include a washer/dryer, however everything that is furnished is extremely cheap, vdc and the freshman dorms have more comfortable couches, the tables and "chairs" are also extremely cheap. The rooms have very poor lighting, bringing additional lamps is an necessity if you plan on studying at night. The walls are paper thin leaving you with no privacy, you and your roommates will constantly hear what everyone is doing. By far the worse part of living in CDS is the manner in which the employees conduct themselves. They are snide and completely unprofessional. They will nickel and dime you for everything, including fees if someone leaves garbage outside of your apartment and if you are locked outside of your apartment. You will also be paying an additional $100 a month to be able to park 5 minutes away. Also your friends will never have a place to park when they want to come over. Once you take this into consideration it is the same price as any of Irvine's other properties, which are way more professional and offer a better experience. read more

I think Camino Del Sol should get AV's (Arroyo Vista )parking just saying. the 20 min parking is dumb and no visitors parking only at structure 2. The layout of the apartment sucks if you want a social environment this is not for you. I hardly see any of my roommates. It's very individualistic. 3. The apartment across is line up to the exactly as mine so when I am studying I can see and hear the guy across for me talking, playing video games etc. 4. Shower pressure none!!! sucks 5. wall are paper thin! 6. the loud drunken people you hear at night. 7. I move in when it was brand new I paid 850 for the 4 rooms 4.5 bathroom then I renew for 884. then I hear it is going up too 911.00 thank God I'm graduating. read more

Camino del Sol is a very beautiful place to stay. Yes, it is kinda expensive but think about all the facilities we are able to use. First off, you don't have to pay to wash and dry your laundry. There is a pool, an exercise room, a study lounge, computer lab, etc. Also, if you need to print out a paper, camino offers 10 sheets a paper to print each day! Thats great! And then, they provide a completely furnished apartment. Lastly but not least, they offer free shuttle that takes you to and from the school. The shuttle even has a stop by Albertsons. I feel like there are a lot of people bashing camino but let me tell you, it is still cheaper than living on campus. I am a first year here at UCI and I am so glad that I had an opportunity to live here. I am so satisfied that I decided to renew my lease for the following year. Despite the price, my parents love the fact I live here because of the safety. There is 24 hour security, and if anything bad were to happen, there are blue emergency lights all around camino. But nothing bad ever happens, its just there for pre-cation. Yeah I agree the price is high but look at all the opportunities and safety that you have here. There is no way I would want to live anywhere but here. If you make the decision to live here, you won't regret it. read more
