I actually like this Camp 4 Coffee location better than the one down on Elk Ave. It's roomier and brighter, and is the ideal spot to grab a warm drink between runs. Beware, though, all drinks are $1 more than the location down in town. The windows look out to the outdoor fire pit at Mountaineer Square, where many skiiers and snowboards like to take their group photos. The line is always soooo long in the morning so this was our afternoon coffee spot - I understand why people wait but I don't have that type of patience for caffeine. Super eclectic little coffee spot in CB! Stopped here for a couple americanos before heading out of town. Like most things in Crested Butte, Camp 4 Coffee is super charming and operated by super sweet mountain types. Awesome coffee and friendly faces at 9000 feet--what more could you need? This isn't really a "sit down and hang out" kind of shop--it's tiny and the bathroom is more of an outhouse situation. Camp 4 Coffee is situated on the main drag, so I suggest getting a bev and taking some time to explore on foot. This place was suggested to us by a friend and I'm a coffee fanatic so I had to check it out. It's pretty good, definitely worth a stop. It's really tiny inside so be prepared to be crammed in there if it's crowded. I ordered a whole milk latte and one of the breakfast croissants, and my boyfriend got a burrito. The latte was good and the food was decent, as good as can be expected from a teeny little coffee shop. The outdoor seating is great - it's just a cute little courtyard with some adirondack chairs and small tables. This place is coffee Mecca for Crested butte. Locals and tourists, this tiny coffee shop warms your heart (and tummy) with some of the best espresso you've ever tasted. Americano is out of this world, nice and strong- you can really pick up on the espresso notes. I'm a latte girl, and this is the best latte I've ever had. Maybe it's partially elevation (I'm from Texas) but the milk froths so wonderfully, it's like sipping on a cloud. The pastries/breakfast selection are great. I had a cookie every morning (I'm on vacation, don't judge!) and they were all terrific. None were very sweet, and all were crisp and biscotti like, so they were perfect for dipping in coffee. Best part about the joint is the seating area under the trees next to the flowers, license plates, and USA flags. A good place to go but can't give maximum stars. "Coffee - It Makes You Poop." This is subtly placed in small letters on the back of my Camp 4 Coffee cap - one of the favorites in my collection. Both are true. It takes more than a clever slogan on a hat, or an eclectic collection of old license plates hammered to an old shack to make a coffee joint worth your while. I've always admitted I'm not as concerned with coffee as I am with other things about a cafe. Good, bad list: Good: Good burritos. Nice little patio for a nice little joint, often surrounded by the omnipresent mountain chamomile clumps. Family owned. I'll bet the owners know what's going on more than the eavesdropping telephone operators of yore who connected calls by hand. Why? Because people talk to each other there - conversation is valued. Wow, imagine that. Bad: Kinda slow, but if you're in much of a hurry in CB, you're in the wrong place. Someone asked about Wifi. Again, shouldn't really be one's top concern (and frankly I'm glad they don't have it). The baked goods are quite a notch below anything else there. CB still has some dogs sleeping in roads, even if they've been pushed out a little from Elk Ave over the last dozen or so years. No one locks their bike, and people are generally kind and mellow. Ergo, no need for a pressure-cooker barista. I'll give up sterile and generic (StarBlanks) for slow, cramped and good in a small mountain town any day. Remember - Coffee - it makes you poop. I came here this week for my apres ski coffee. There was a line to the door when I arrived and when I left. There is a reason for this. This place rocks! Because there was a line, and I wanted to try two drinks, I got a double-shot and a latte. They were both excellent. The service was friendly and the prices reasonable. This is the best coffee shop in CB! The coffee is higher quality than most places in Denver (where I live), the staff is always friendly, the prices are low and it has a lot of charm. I have been to both locations (CB Town and CB Mountain) and was impressed every time. I just bought 2 lbs to take back home to make our own Camp 4 Coffee Americanos in Denver. One thing to note is that if you buy the bagged coffee, you get a free Americano. There are a lot of locals who hang out here and just chillin' on the front patio area while relaxing in CB is a perfect way to spend some time. Enjoy! read more

The espresso drinks are good but the food is really bad. It is all prepackaged food and the breakfast bagel came out soggy. Even those are prepackaged so they throw everything in the microwave. The drinks were good but orders came out seemingly randomly. The guy in front of us had his order taken completely wrong (4 shot espresso coffee and instead got 4 single shit espressos). We'd rather driver to First Ascent than walk to this place. Unfortunately they have the location so not a lot of incentive to be better. read more

When they say the best coffee around, they aren't kidding! Camp 4 Coffee is a local hidden gem. I would recommend going to the location downtown instead of the one on the mountain. It has a more laid back vibe. I'd suggest trying their beef jerky for a road trip and the americano to get you going in the morning! Also, if you buy 2 lbs of their coffee ($15 per pound), you get a free mug. I'm not sure if this was promotional while we were there or a continuous deal. read more

A welcoming front yard with relaxing porch chairs and umbrellas draws you in. The establishment looks like a tin shed plastered with old license plates lending a rustic air. Inside the spare light bulbs gives you a feeling that you've stepped back into the depression era. This description is not meant to deter you rather to convey an impression of character and authenticity that is hard to come by in an age of clinically lit, sterile, non-descript Starbucks shops. The coffee is served cheerfully by two engaging women and in the opinion of my coffee snob friend, is strong enough that no refills are needed. The portion sizes are generous. As we sat nursing our coffee mugs, a steady stream of old and young sauntered in for their java. I would return just to savor the taste of this town. read more

Best coffee I've ever had, seriously. I'm not crazy about getting a drink at the bar - it's not cheap, and they tend to take a while to get through the line - but the Mixed Emotions half caf bags of beans are insanely good. Smells good, tastes good, just a perfect mild roast. Some of the morning pastries are also excellent if you decide to wait in line for coffee regardless... chocolate glazes donuts, chocolate chip cookies, and plenty of other delicious nibbles. Came here every morning before hitting the slopes. You can't go wrong with a spicy chai or white mocha (add raspberry syrup to the mocha and it's on a whole other level). The breakfast burrito was just okay, but you come for the coffee, not the food. We loved that they have a fast lane (separate table) if all you want is plain coffee. This is my all-time favorite coffee joint. Incredible coffee, excellent pastries and breakfast burritos, fantastic outside patio seating right in downtown Crested Butte. I go to CB 2-4 times a year to mountain bike or nordic ski and enjoy the town. Camp 4 is part of my daily routine there (often 2x day!) and one of the thing look forward to most. The Sledgehammer beans are some of the best espresso beans I've had. I order these at home online by the bulk 7 pound bag to enjoy at home as both espresso and drip. Ordering the 7 pound bulk bag gets you free shipping and drops the cost to only $11/lb ! The place is tiny, with very little room inside (lots of seating outside). Enough for two people to make orders at a time. The line goes out the door everyday (so dress warmly if you're there early) . The employees are friendly and great at what they do. It's not fast, it's not cheap (nor should it be), and it doesn't have wifi. If you are in Crested Butte and in a hurry or looking to get online, you are in the wrong place. Leave your watch and your computer at home. If you're bitching about paying a bit more for the BEST coffee around, there's a gas station at the end of town with coffee for you.
