This is my all-time favorite coffee joint. Incredible coffee, excellent pastries and breakfast burritos, fantastic outside patio seating right in downtown Crested Butte. I go to CB 2-4 times a year to mountain bike or nordic ski and enjoy the town. Camp 4 is part of my daily routine there (often 2x day!) and one of the thing look forward to most. The Sledgehammer beans are some of the best espresso beans I've had. I order these at home online by the bulk 7 pound bag to enjoy at home as both espresso and drip. Ordering the 7 pound bulk bag gets you free shipping and drops the cost to only $11/lb ! The place is tiny, with very little room inside (lots of seating outside). Enough for two people to make orders at a time. The line goes out the door everyday (so dress warmly if you're there early) . The employees are friendly and great at what they do. It's not fast, it's not cheap (nor should it be), and it doesn't have wifi. If you are in Crested Butte and in a hurry or looking to get online, you are in the wrong place. Leave your watch and your computer at home. If you're bitching about paying a bit more for the BEST coffee around, there's a gas station at the end of town with coffee for you. When the order arrived, Al Smith (whose picture is on the coffee label!) had written us a note: "Good luck with the fires. Be safe"- along with adding a extra pound of his coffee. I saw the sign out front "best coffee in Colorado" and I was skeptical (reminded me of the scene from Elf). Well, I have been to some of the better coffee shops in Denver and other mountain towns and they deserved their ranking by the Denver post. These guys know how to make an amazing cup of coffee. Each cup is prepared on order (pressed coffee...is the best way to prepared coffee in my opinion). They also have donuts...which is great because the local donut shop is not open early. read more

Baristas are not consistent with latte art. My first visit produced a beautiful heart design. Second visit, the latte sat flat in top. The barista blamed it on the almond milk, which was not true. Same barista both visits. read more

First about me. Serious about good coffee! I have been passionate about good coffee for the last 32 years. I have my own setup at home and roast beans each week. I can't drink bad coffee, I will rather be without coffee then. This place announced the best coffee in Colorado. I don't know about that, but it was the best I have found in Colorado so far. I have lived here for 7 years and this espresso was just wonderful. I usually HATE paper cups (or worse styrofoam), but the quality of this espresso made me overlook that this time. They had small paper cups for espresso. Thank you guys for really good coffee and please use porcelain cups! One doesn't drink wonderful drink from mediocre vessels, even the Vikings knew that! read more

Best coffee on the western slope, and this location is up on the mountain. It doesn't get much better. The pastries in the morning are delicious, (not totally sure where they get them from, although I know it's somewhere down in town), and the coffee is, as I said, to die for. Excellent product and even better customer service. Every time I visit Crested Butte, Camp 4 Coffee is at the top of my to do list. In between trips, I order coffee beans for friends, family, and, as it often turns out, my daily habit. This December, someone swiped my box of coffee from my doorstep. To my absolute delight, the guys at Camp 4 Coffee worked with me without delay to replace what was stolen. I was truly impressed. read more

Easy access off the slopes....only plus. A few of us ordered the breakfast burrito and was disappointed. Fairly small and reminded us of frozen Juan burritos. The pastries looked really good might be a better option. But I recommend they work on those burritos. read more

No thank you. First off, this place charges waaaay too much for a small cup of joe. we're talking in the $5 range. Secondly, Camp 4 has a $5 minimum credit card charge. That is crazy! Now that I think about it, that is where their prices start off in the first place so I guess it makes sense to them. However, Camp 4 smells good, we're talking punched in the face coffee smell YUMMM. But for the price and the hassle, I pass. read more

The coffee drinks are passable but there isn't much variety. All espresso drinks (meaning no drip, press, or pour-over) and there seems to be only one bean option which is darkly roasted, as you would expect for espresso. I got an Americano and it was OK. I wasn't in the mood for espresso. My wife's hazelnut-double-latte-whatever tasted fine -- but like those beverages do do it tasted more like dessert than coffee. We got some sort of bagel-egg sandwich. The bacon was good, the bagel tasted like something from a supermarket. Great, friendly staff. Super location and vibe. That's what gets it three stars rather than two. I'll go back but it's for those things, not for the coffee. read more

I had read that their coffee was better than starbucks, and I and huge starbucks fan - and I've gotta tell ya... It's TRUE the coffee is amazing!! I had a simple Americano with almond milk and it blew my socks off! I had it at mountaineer square and again downtown. Only a 25 cent difference in the 12 oz and 16 oz so you gotta go big! My mom had a pastry of some sort which she says was delicious. The selection was great, I think they bake them downtown then bring them to the base area in a van. This place is covered up in both locations and for really good reason!! I wish I could capture the delicious smell of their coffee in an air freshener. A must go to while in Crested Butte! read more

Very excellent. Coffee is outstanding, perhaps my favorite in a town that has at least 3 great coffee outlets. I also enjoyed a chocolate espresso milkshake which was first-rate. The service is a bit chaotic. There are usually 3 staff behind the counter, and it all seems to be Brownian motion, from order to pickup. Consequently orders can take a while to fill, resulting in lines in a place that is too small to have lines. There is very cramped indoor seating but that is offset by a nice patio with furniture and umbrellas. read more

Good coffee, great little patio, but takes waaaaaay too long. Whenever I've been there (many times) it's usually one person working...that means making the coffee, and ringing up the customers, and taking payment, etc. BUT, that said...it's a mountain town, and that's just the way it goes. My friend Meg said it was the best iced coffee she'd ever had. I can't say the same about my Mocha, but it was pretty tasty. read more

I was delighted to find this little place close to where we were staying, so we wouldn't have to travel back into town. The charming barista gladly made me a 1/2 decaf soy latte and I was able to get back to wishing I was rugged enough to ride a mountain bike down a mountain. read more

This is by far my favorite place to get a nice cup of hot chocolate. I have never had a better cup of hot chocolate. The lady behind the counter is super nice and amazingly friendly. Such a cute place! A friend and I stopped here as we were driving across the country. We stayed with a friend in Crested Butte who directed us for our morning pick-me-up before we headed onwards to CA. What a great place to get coffee! The day was clear and we saw a gorgeous panorama of all the mountains! So nice. Great coffee too. The store is small, sweet, and friendly. Love it! read more

Easily the best coffee in Colorado. It's a tiny shop, so expect a little bit of a wait, but the folks are nice and the drinks are so very worth it. Try the Toltec Chocolate Mocha or the Spicy Chai for something you won't be able to find any place else. read more

Best Americano in the world?...Ok that's a strong statement and I haven't tried every coffee shop in the world, but Camp 4 absolutely brews the best Americano I have ever had. Part of it may be in the views while I sit outside and drink that Americano but it is a great cup of Coffee. Don't miss this place if you like coffee and are in Crested Butte. read more

Excellent for espresso drinks. Regular drip coffee is somewhat secondary to them (it's served out of a thermos). But the espresso is hand-pulled and has a rich flavor with tons of crema. read more
