It turns out one of the top 5 bagel places in Colorado is in the beautiful town of Crested Butte. Not a NY bagel but very good by Colorado standards. This is the kind of bagel place that would be a regular stop for me if it were in Denver. The bagels smell like bagels and are perfectly seasoned with a nice, chewy texture. It's expensive no doubt about it, but the sandwiches are massive so you get what you pay for in my opinion. The lines are often long here, but if you have some time to kill it's worth checking out. I have no qualms about the bagels, but a second visit to try the evening burger pop-up balanced out my experience (topping at 4-stars). The wait is long, so why not try dessert first (Tin Cup around the corner) and grab a copy of Mountain Town Magazine while posting up in the cozy timber chairs. This is a must stop for breakfast in Crested Butte. I love all of their unique bagel flavors and they have so many good sandwich options. This visit, my husband and I shared a Fletcher Bagel Sandwich on a Pretzel Cheddar Bagel. It was huge so I'm glad we split it. The flavors were great. Great place for a quick breakfast/lunch. They have a large selection of bagel sandwiches, both breakfast and beyond. On my first visit I got the East coaster with a latke on a jalapeño cheddar bagel, love when places have latkes on the menu! The sandwich was hearty and nice and cheesy. On my second visit I tried the Slap-n-Tickle, more of a deli style turkey sandwich, which was delicious! Very fresh ingredients on a Pretzel bagel. The bagels were decent, but overpriced. Same with the burgers. Unfortunately the tater tots were some of the worst I've ever had. They tasted old and stale, and had no flavor. The service could have been better as well. We noticed they brought the burgers out to customers waiting outside and after us, but our bag was left sitting on the counter when we went inside to check on the wait. Wow. Just wow. Saw some folx walking down the street with bagels and knew I needed some for myself, so my husband and I came here for lunch on a Sunday. Since it was later in the day many flavors were sold out which I'm incredibly bummed about as I wanted to try so many! The Cheddar Pickle was a particular standout. Alas, what we had was still incredible. I ordered an everything bagel with the "Nicole" - egg, cream cheese and lots of veggies. Easily the best bagel sandwich I've had in a long while. My husband had their take on a Reuben with a sesame bagel and devoured his. The place is very small but I enjoyed the vibe. We had no issue procuring a table and given bagels aren't a huge time consumer, I imagine turnover is quick enough many who wish to can eat there. I wanted to stop by here last time we were in this area, but they ended up closing before we could make it in. This time we happen to be talking to our bartender at a local distillery about where to get some good burgers and they mentioned that Butte bagels had recently begun serving burgers into the late night and were the latest thing in town. We decided to give it a try and we were so glad we did ! It's the tiniest place ever, so quaint inside and the building is definitely very old. About five people can be in line before you have to take it outside and around the building, there's a couple two seater tables inside and a few more large wood style chairs outside surrounding one coffee table Not much seating overall for the amount of foot traffic this place was getting on a Friday night. We ordered our smash burgers, which were very reasonably priced, and all of them come as a double patty situation. The burgers were delicious, such an unexpected no-frills experience that felt so authentic and lovely that it was just right. The burger is served in an aluminum paper wrapping and there are no fries, but the burger shines. We also loved the merch they had, our favorite shirts are comfort colors brand which are high-quality and generally have different designs on the front and back - we were so excited to see that this place had those type of shirts, with a unique and colorful doodle of their restaurant on one side and crested Butte and their name on the other. For only $28, both my boyfriend and I ended up getting one. The shirts are adorable. The place is small and so the food takes a little while to come out, We even tried to come back the next morning to try the bagels, but the line was so long out the door of the building that we gave up and ate somewhere else. This review is for their burger shop. I couldn't find a separate entity on here to review. Butte Bagels becomes Butte Burgers in the evening. The burgers were pretty good! I'd give mine a 3.5 (docked half a star because it's smash burger style and the edges were burnt). The prices are nice for CB (you can get a burger for less than $10 -- whaaaat?). I liked the option of sauces and their house sauce was really nice. I was expecting something like Mac sauce, but it tasted fresher, more herbaceous. I'm thinking it included maybe a bit of fresh dill? Just wish they had French fries, but I get it -- it's typically a bagel shop. read more

So darn good. Was in the area for a couple days and was looking for some quick vegan options. I was SO impressed with the Tofu Bahn Mi on their special menu (PLEASE add it to the regular menu) - incredibly fresh, delicious flavors, they nailed the tofu. The bagels are amazing, chefs kiss. The shop is a super cute older house right off the main street, staff is so nice (loved the girls in the kitchen singing along to "Since You've Been Gone" and all the other pop songs today!). I was at a conference in Gunnison and decided to pop up to CB and wander around. I was raised by an east coast Jewish mother, so I can't resist a bagel shop. This place was great. The staff were super down to earth and seemed to be having a great time. I ordered a dozen bagels to bring home with me. My husband and I ate them for breakfast when I got home to Loveland and they were AMAZING. The bagels are enormous and soft and chewy and flavorful. I wish I had a place like this near me. Here's a tip for anyone else who wants to travel with their bagels: Bring your own plastic bag or other sealed container for storage. Plastic bags are banned in CB, so my bagels came in a paper bag. I knew my bagels would go stale quickly, so I grabbed a plastic bag when I got back to Gunnison. My bagel babies traveled well and are safe at home. read more

Totally get they are short staffed and make everything fresh, but still feel that is a long wait for bagels at a quick serve location. Crested Butte is a small town so, I am not even sure there are any other bagel shops. But Butte Bagels is delicious! We didn't have time to wait for a sandwich so we just ordered pretzel everything and pretzel cheese bagels with plain cream cheese. The bagels still took awhile and we got there at around 10am on a Monday. There were already about ten people waiting for their orders. By the time we left they had sold out of all bagel flavors. I LOVE their everything bagel. I get it every time which is tough because they have so many fun flavors. I've had their green goddess bagel which is good but not my favorite. I love a good classic sausage, egg and cheese. Once you get to the front of the line be ready to order since there is always a line. When we stopped by, most bagel varieties were sold out. Both sandwiches were large and scratched our bagel itch. The sandwiches were yummy, but if we came back, I think we would likely get more basic bagels (cream cheese, bacon/egg/cheese, etc.), as the bagels were a bit overpowered by the other ingredients. Absolutely wonderful experience went about a month ago with my mother and I. (We went during evening hours of operation so we got burgers) Ben was super nice and made sure we knew exactly what we were getting. My mother's first language isn't English but he thoroughly and clearly explained to her what was on each burger, let us know an ETA, I would kill to have coworkers with an attitude like his! Burgers were decently large for the price and were very unique. The combination of ingredients brought a unique mountain town taste/vibe to the burgers we had. (The japalpeno black berry jam is truly wonderful) . Small little place but definitely spacious enough to sit and eat if you'd like.
