I chose this camp because it's close to our home and looked like fun since my daughter loves the beach. We did not receive a warm or welcoming greeting when we arrived for check in; to the contrary, they seemed surprised to have a new camper late in the season. None of the counselors attempted to engage with our daughter who then didn't want to stay. My husband stayed with our daughter for about an hour before a counselor came over to "help." We had the same type of greeting at pick-up and I witnessed one of the counselors yelling at a child and pulling his arm. We've been to several other camps this summer and had quite a different experience. You get what you pay for. We will not be going back. read more

My girls have been to more expensive beach/surf camps and i was worried they would not like Camp Awesome and would ask to change camps. It turned out both my daughters LOVED Camp Awesome! They had a blast and want to go back next year for the whole year. I am excited, since the cost makes it possible to go all summer long. Other camps, we can go only 1 week in the summer. Camp Awesome is nothing short of AWESOME. This is my boy's 1st summer with Camp Awesome and they are in love! The camp is high enough energy that my 2 active kiddos come home exhausted. They love the counselors and the other kids and the fun field games at the end. I am watching them gain independence as they interact with staff and other kids. One of my number one concerns with a beach camp was sunscreen application (we have a history of skin cancer in the family) and I am thrilled to report that the staff is diligent on sunscreen. Campers are instructed to re-apply every 2 hours (that's the doctor recommend frequency). If your younger kiddo (like mine) has difficult the staff does plenty of attentive support for the application as needed. And it's Awesome for parents because of the camp staff's caring and flexible scheduling (they do an amazing and graceful job with cancellations and date changes when done in advance.) We signed up for just 2 days a week not knowing what to expect and now my youngest complains when it's not a day he get's to go to Camp Awesome! This family highly recommends Camp Awesome! Oh, and we're at the Redondo Beach location. read more

My daughter went the whole summer last year 2014 and she enjoyed it very much. The staff is great at entertaining, etc. Always making an effort to have the child engaged and not just sitting around being "watched." She's looking forward to the next session. read more

Super awesome camp, can't wait to go back this year! It was a first time last year for my then 9 yo, it exceeded our expectations. Had a blast, made friends, enjoyed all activities. My kiddo fitted right in, never wanting to leave every day! I was worried about all day at the beach as he is fair skinned but never had a problem unlike in other camps (when he was younger). Camp awesome is super awesome! My son had a great summer at the Redondo location, we did Marina the previous summer which was also great. Fun field trips and activities on the pier which my son loved. Great prices and wonderful staff. Adela was great and made sure to keep me in the loop each day which I really appreciated. My son had a really fun time at this camp! The staff are friendly and very responsible. They did a great job re-applying sunscreen which was a huge concern of mine. They also give kids an appropriate time in shade for a break & to eat lunch. Fun in sun... We will def be back! read more

This is our third year returning. We love this camp! The outdoor part and the fees originally attracted me. Also, their location is so easy to drop off and pick-up. They are exceptional and very professional. I trust them completely, in and out of the water. My son is attending five weeks this year. I prefer him to be in nature, enjoy the fresh air on his skin and the saltwater from a swim. And, on the days when the ocean is too rough, he still has a great time with games, the park and field trips. The new friends he makes are amazing. He comes home with that salty, sea air smell and he sleeps well. We LOVE Camp Awesome! read more

Loved this camp..until they left my daughter alone in a public restroom and didn't notice she was missing. The camp never even informed me of this incident. When I informed them the situation was not resolved even close to what I expect for endangering my child. Beware. read more

This is a great beach camp. My kids love it and keep wanting to go back. Drop off is much easier than other beach camps. The counselors are great with kids and make sure they sunscreen and hydrate. We first met the counselors when they worked at the afterschool program in Manhattan Beach. We miss them since they left and look forward to seeing them during the summer. read more

This will be our 3rd year attending Camp Awesome! What a fun, flexible, and excellent program. My daughter enjoys every activity and comes home sandy, tired, smiling, and full of stories - exactly what you want from an awesome beach camp. James & Zack are the best camp leaders, always positive and enthusiastic, always thinking up new games and activities. When I met James at the Meadows Camp Expo, I was so impressed with his passion, knowledge, and love of kids. He took all the time I needed to thoughtfully answer all of my questions. The entire staff was wonderful, safety was a big priority, and, most of all, my son had a ball! And having the option of extended care really helped, since we both work outside of the home. The staff were remarkeably friendly and kind to both my kids and myself. My kids are very picky when it comes to activities, but every summer they can't wait to come to Camp Awesome! The prices are also incredibly low considering how personal the camp feels. I can assure you your kids will be safe here; I've never seen an establishment more committed to safety. This camp totally lives up to its name. Completely awesome. My 6 year old did it for the first time this summer and LOVED it. If you are looking for a "learning" camp where your child learns a skill or has a lot of intellectual stimulation this isn't a good choice. But if you are looking for a camp that's just good old fashioned summer fun-- playing in the water, building sandcastles, burying counselors in the sand, play, play, and more play this camp is wonderful. As a parent I especially loved the by-the-day pricing and flexible scheduling. That's really hard to find. For my child 5 straight days at the beach would be too much, but she loved having one day at the beach every week. At the beginning of summer I signed her up for several days but then it was great to be able to add a day when something came up. The location is great because they play at the beach, but Del Rey Lagoon Park is just across the street so they play at the playground and on the grass too. My only negative feedback is my daughter got sunburned a few times. Though they re-apply sunblock a couple times a day the children mostly apply their own and she definitely could have used some help. I wish the counselors were more proactive helping with sunblock-- especially for the smaller children. Overall, though, we loved it and will definitely be going back next summer. read more
