My 8 year old daughter was here for 2 weeks of summer camp. This is the review for the Los Altos Summer Camp. The reviews are mainly based on her feedback and my experience on the Friday sessions. - She loves the staff and she enjoyed the Spy Activities - She kept saying the staff love to sing which is fun - The water activities on Wednesday is awesome especially when the weather is hot - For Parent session on Friday, We get to learn more about the counselors and the activities. The video was great .. good job - The T-shirt challenge was fun and we enjoyed it For extended day care, all they did was just playing at the playground and I wish the kids has a option to get inside when the temp hit almost 100F. My other feedback will be to make it easier for kids to get the badges. My daughter want to come back again next year to try other camp activities which mean she really enjoyed it. This camp at this location is very laid back, easy to manage (no big lines, no fuss at check-in). IT is a small campus and inviting for kids who are shy or nervous about large groups. My daughter enjoyed talking about this camp, and learned some basic science concepts, which she continues to explore on her own. To me, that is a success. I am not giving it five stars only because five stars is what you give the Ritz Carlton. However, this is a really good camp, and as far as my role as a parent, I felt that the camp staff was: 1. It is so un organized! 600 a week, charge more than most camps, but they even not warm up my son's lunch upon request! The director is not taking phone or reply email. The Home office who take phones knows nothing about the camp rule and staff. ...my son fall and hurt his knee, no first aid. No staff ever noticed. read more

I registered my son (5th-8th grade) in Minecraft mod coding at their Los Altos location. The instructor at the Minecraft mod coding camp was not only incompetent but also what I would describe as an obsessed, non-professional instructor. The first day of the camp the instructor spent half an hour on a threatening pep-talk that if you do this or that so and so will happen. When my son asked him about a line of code to learn why he should write the code like that the instructor's reply was: "because I said so". All the time the only thing they were allowed to do was to copy the code, no questions, no discussion to explore or figure things out was allowed. It is very unfortunate to see that EDMO camp's definition of learning and having fun is to copy from the instructor without asking a question. That sounds more like a factory model of education. If I can give them a zero, I would. This is my first review on Yelp. I found out the hard way the EDMO camp at Heather Elementary this year is run by teenagers and one slightly older woman who may be 20, but unlikely more than 22. Second day at camp another child dropped a rock about the size of a kiwifruit on my son's head from above. The Camp Director called me immediately and we picked him up. Fortunately there was no permanent damage, just a ugly bruised bump about 1 inch in diameter. My child has a cast for his broken arm so he spent most of his time sitting in the shade. While he was sitting in a raised bed, another child dropped that rock on his head for no reason. One girl who witnessed the whole thing told the instructors who it was. That child did not admit to it. I thought the camp would for sure expel this kid or at least do something. I sent them an email to all of their email addresses, including the site director, asking that child to be kept away from mine. I got no answer. The following day I went to ask how they plan to deal with this. The director said she told everyone that areas with rocks are now off limits. I asked her what happened to the other child, whether they are still allowed to attend. She said they have been dropped off and the parents are now at work. I told her I need to speak to her boss. She said she can't get a hold of her. I asked if her boss has a boss, and she said no the boss is the owner. I told her if I can't get to speak to anybody about this I will have to file a police report, and at that she got scared and called someone frantically. Finally we got an adult on the phone and she promised in cases like this the other child will be banned from the rest of the camp and they will make sure they are not placed in the same camp in the future. In the end nothing like that happened. They brought the other set of parents in who said there is no way their child could have done it. The regional supervisor?/director completely sided with them because we "got angry", as if we didn't have a right to be angry when such a horrible thing happens to your child. In the end they basically told us they don't have enough proof that the child is the attacker, and I can't use the words attacker and victim in front of my child, so that it's best if we don't come back to camp the following day. I have to admit that I did get on their nerves by staying at the camp for the whole day since the children were in close vicinity of each other and I didn't think it would be safe to leave him there, and being attacked should not be a reason to give up his fun at camp. The conclusion is they will give my money back if I ask for it, but my child, who got hurt for no reason, cannot attend camp but the child who hurt him can go because he didn't confess. The camp itself was kind of fun. They basically played silly games all day long. The Maker part is not all that. They just taped cardboard boxes and bottles together with no instructions. Nothing wrong with that, but not what I imagined Maker camp would be doing. The camp instructors were young, and again nothing wrong with that but they had no air of authority over the kids at camp. Many children ignored their instructions the whole time I was there. Another thing is, at the end of the day, the person I was dealing with told me I cannot come the following day because I was not background checked. This is hilarious to me because she should have told me this in the morning when I offered her my 2 options: 1. I will take my son home with me or 2. I will stay here and watch him at camp until the child who attacked him is gone. She allowed me to stay against her own rules, and at the end of the day she found out about her own rules because I annoyed her too much. The fact that I was allowed to stay there the whole day means they weren't too strict on that rule either. I asked the regional supervisor what it takes to expel a kid from camp. She said throwing a rock would do. I asked her how often do things like this happen in her 15 years of career. She said this was the first time. And yet they still tried to brush it off with "he couldn't have done it, even if he did he doesn't know how serious it is" and "kids do things like this". Well one kid in 15 years does one thing like this. amend: ----------------------------------------- The person in charge just called me and told me they will give our money back for the next camp and we will not return. I will edit in the next few days whether they actually return our money. Overall she everything she did was completely useless and unfair. At one point in our discussion she called me vindictive and over-sensitive. My conclusion: The camp is mediocre for its price if nothing happens, but if anything happens they have no idea how to deal with it and will not treat you with fairness. My guess is they favored the other parents because they were paying for 2 kids for many weeks, and we only one child. read more

I was so excited to send my daughter to this camp from how amazing the website positioned the sessions as well as the approach. The camp left us terribly disappointed. First off, the site was a dump. They were literally tearing half of it down while the camp was going on. My daughter was in the App developer session where they were put in teams with one computer. Her teammate took most of the time on the computer leaving her unable to participate. I talked to the camp Director about it, but nothing changed. We had put her in the "aftercare" and twice when I went to pick her up I had to just wander around (through the construction maze) to find them. I would ask multiple counsellors where the children were and they literally said "don't know". The camp was on the higher price of camps so I think that made it even more disappointing. She had attended a Galileo camp a week prior on the entire experience was night and day. Would not recommend this camp, especially for the price read more

This is the first year my son has been in camp. Of all the camps he's attended, this is one of his favorite camps where he spent 3 weeks. The counselors are great, they are full of energy all the time and are patient with the kids. I love that they encourage and have a game to promote making friends. For my child who is very shy and has a hard time starting a new camp knowing no one, he did great and was excited to be learning about new friends and getting game cards along the way. As part of the game kids can earn a stump card and he would try to think of questions he can stump his counselors every week. He really enjoyed all the science activities. There was also a water day on every Wednesday that he really loved. He's already asking if he can do this camp again next year. read more

I know kids who have enjoyed EdTech and others who have not, including my son. Based on what I've seen and heard, I think EdTech is best for campers who: 1. Have never done a similar topic at other tech camps in the area. EdTech doesn't go into as much depth or provide the optional project extensions that some other camps do. So it is best suited for those who are completely new to a topic and class of tools, and need that simple introduction. 2. Have not yet grown accustom to camps that assign each camper their own computer. At Edtech, not all campers get their own. 3. Are still fine with an elementary school age camp atmosphere. Camp Edmo and camp EdTech campers are mixed together for a lot of the activities. In fact there doesn't seem to be much of a difference between the two camps beyond the T-shirt design and the lab/workshop content. EdTech campers have the same theme days as Edmo, play many (but not all) games with the Edmo kids, and seem to follow the same rules that the Edmo kids have. It seems perfect for the former Edmo camper who has just aged out and misses it. If instead your camper wants, or has come to expect, a more typical middle school age camp experience with somewhat older themes and games and a bit more autonomy, you should look elsewhere. read more
