We have been coming to this camp run a mutt for 4+ years now. We have loved bringing our dogs, Bailey and Kahlua here. We loved it so much, in fact, we kept bringing our dogs here after we moved to east county. HOWEVER, I have had horrible experiences with getting my dogs groomed. One of the days I picked up my dogs from camp, I asked for a grooming appointment. I scheduled it with one of the runners. The day of the appointment, I bring my dogs, drop them off, and 5 minutes later get a phone call that they didn't have an appointment. The runner I guess forgot to put my appointment in the books. Okay, we all make mistakes. I kindly picked up my dogs and rescheduled my grooming appointment. Today my dogs got groomed. When I went to pick them up, I was rudely greeted by the owner about how I was late to pick up my dogs and that I needed to be there within 15 minutes of their phone call. Well, that's impossible because I live more than 15 minutes away (again, we commute because we loved it) AND I have a toddler and a newborn who were in the middle of their naps. I had to wake them and get them out the door. He then proceeded to tell me that I should have had my kids awake and ready and waiting for their phone call. I am not going to be stressed out over getting my dogs groomed, nor am I going to be rudely spoken to as a long time customer (who has never been rude or taken advantage of this business). I also was never explained any of this to me, so I didn't know. I would have happily paid for the daycare fee instead of being treated rudely. Our beloved Luna is always excited as we approach the camp and sprints out of the car when one of the many amigable, dog loving staff members comes out to safely greet us and retrieve her. When we pick her up she is often exhausted from hours of play and interaction with other dogs. She is a dog with a lot of energy and the staff knows her personality and are very accomodating to her needs. I was fortunate enough to take a tour with the owners at Camp Run A Mutt Chula Vista and this place is definitely top notch. Having worked at various doggie day cares and kennels I will let you know that your average doggie venue in San Diego DOES NOT COMPARE to this place! The owners pour their hearts, souls, and expertise (dog behavior training etc.) into this establishment and I was really blown away when I toured the facility. The yard tenants are highly trained to prices excellent care and maintain good energy in the yard which goes a long away towards keeping your dogs happy and safe. The entire place was immaculate, organized, and tailored to meeting the needs of the dogs (so critical with caring for groups of animals with individual care needs) and staff (happy employees = less turn around = more experienced dog lovers caring for your four legged friends...something many other day cares/kennels lack). I always recommend this place to my friends and coworkers. I'm fortunate enough to be able to leave my fur kiddos with their grandma when my wife and I go out of town but if ever she is not available I will board them here for sure. Yes you can take your pets to a 3-4 yelp star kennel and save yourselves some $ but it's really not fair to your pet. Their safety, health, and wellbeing could be at jeopardy. My yorkie has always been a bit of a challenge when it comes to socializing even when we have introduced him to dog parks, family/friend's dogs and daily walks. Poor baby also has separation anxiety and gets very nervous around other dogs and people without me around. I wanted to bring him to Camp Run-A-Mutt to help him with this and between Chad, Paul and their entire staff, he is slowly adjusting through their professionalism and care of mine and all their doggies. Our 2 year old corgi Lucy loves going to camp run-a-mutt! Whenever I check on her via the online "mutt cams" she's either running around with her furry friends, enjoying some petting by the staff, or cooling out in the splash pond. Our 2 dogs have been staying at CRAM Mission Hills and Point Loma for years. Since those locations were full over the holidays we had to try out CRAM Chula Vista. I was disappointed in their disorganization for two reasons. 1. I was told to bring my dogs in for a temperament test between 9am and 1pm. I obliged although I wondered why this had to happen when they had been to other CRAM numerous times. When I arrived, I thought it would take 15 minutes tops. They told me I had to leave the dogs there for 6 hours and pay a $25 fee for the assessment that would be credit towards their stay IF they were accepted. 2. I was quoted a price by the manager that included a 10% discount for my second dog and 10% discount for a 7 night stay. I was happy about this, feeling good about a little discount. When I went to pick up the dogs the employee at the counter charged us a different price. She told me the manager made a mistake because the dogs stayed there 7 DAYS so they didn't qualify for the 7 NIGHT discount. When we resisted a bit, she wouldn't budge. We decided to take our loss for this one lengthy stay and never return again. read more

What a find!!! So happy a fellow dog lover referred us to this place! We were looking to board our dog and called for more information. Excellent customer service from our first contact and on. They recommended we try out a few "daycare" days first to get our pooch acclimated and it was definitely helpful. Felt entirely comfortable leaving her there for an extended stay. Was able to watch her interactions during the day on the mutt-cams. Since her initial stay, we've also used their grooming services and was pleasantly surprised to see our baby walk right in and excited to be there (though I think she was disappointed she didn't get to stay and play for the day). This place is amazing! I have been taking my dogs to CRAM Chula Vista for over 10 years. Paul and Chad are awesome owners, the staff are always kind and attentive, they all really care about the dogs and their welfare. The area they get to play in is spacious and very well maintained, as you can see on the Muttcams. Harlee loves to play in the water fountain. I also love that they have grooming services and the mobile vet for vaccinations available. I can drop Harlee off for daycare and she can get a bath or her shots while having a play day. This is the only place I would board my dogs as it is an open boarding area and they are not stuck in a cage or a room by themselves. They get to sleep on dog beds around a couch, watching TV, with a real live person watching them! They are never alone and that means alot to me. Took my dog in for daycare yesterday. The staff was super helpful, and I could tell they have a passion for dogs. They sent me pictures throughout the day, and gave him a dog report card when I picked him up. After spending a day at camp run a mutt, he was an exhausted, happy and well behaved pup. I was under a crunch leaving town for the weekend and my normal weekend boarding that i hated taking my dog to was booked. Frustrating at first, but lead me to find camp run a mut. Sierra was very helpful over the phone and answered all my questions. I have a hyper pit mix and was worried how she would behave at a kennel free facility. I brought my pup in for a temperment test that she passed, and was cleared for an afternoon test run. The owner and all the staff were very informative and helpful. The facility has cameras that you can view through the day. I checked the cameras probably 30 times during her afternoon stay. The play yard is well staffed and all the pups play well together. Everytime i checked the cams i was able to watch my pup exploring on her own or following staff around and playing with other pups. She stayed for the weekend and had a wonderful time. Was exhausted when she came home after her stays. When we ask if she wants to go play with her friends she runs to the front door. I had no feelings of guilt leaving her here over the weekend. Will definently be using the facility for random weekday daycare and for our future weekends away. read more

Probably the most irritating, weird, and uncomfortable experience that we've ever had to be apart of. As many of you know, prior to being "accepted" by these doggie daycare facilities you submit your pup to a TEMPERAMENT TEST. We have a 6 month old male BELGIAN MALINOIS who has gone through extensive private training, AKC certified puppy classes (he completed successfully), maintain his obedience training on our daily, is still receiving private lessons, have controlled socialization, and is being trained under the expectations you'd expect of a K9. He is still intact due to recommendations by our vet to aide his full growth. Our intention was to possibly have Camp Run-A-Mutt watch our baby boy maybe 2-3 times out of the month and allow to be in an environment that would let him roam/run free, interact w/other dogs and be a better alternative to being in a crate for 5-6 hours. We'd been recommended by friends who attend regularly that this would be a good option! Upon going to the facility on 03/25/2021 for his temperament test, my wife met with Paul. The rule clearly states, that the dogs must be neutered AFTER 7 months. Paul noticed our boy had an erection and promptly dismissed/denied him from the program... He's a puppy, in a new environment, with possible new friends... he got excited. It's his biology, IT'S NORMAL. But there's more. Paul begins to offer unsolicited training advice and told us to manage his erections by SPRAYING HIS PRIVATES WITH A SPRAY BOTTLE. He told my wife that because he had erection, he wasn't think with his head, and that made our commands "null"...Our boy was asked to "settle down" or get in a down position, so my wife VERBALLY commanded him to a "down" and he complied and settled. Paul advised her that this was INCORRECT, and that to properly have them settle is to have them go completely ON THEIR BACK and show their belly (wrong). He then proceeds to the ground on one knee, tries to muscle our boy on his back (which is WRONG, RUDE, AND VIOLATING, to the dog being that he's a stranger to him), and steps on his leash near his neck to hold him down. Leash pressure is fine, it's a common tool for training. But our boy wasn't training. We did not ask for any training. Turn us away, fine. But, do not physically try to force our puppy or contort him into weird positions that have nothing to do with the proper behaviors of a settled pup. There's more though! He then advises us that another reason why he's unwilling to take him because he has a black face/snout which means "he's got some ALPHA in him so that concerns me"... Look up a Belgian Malinois. Please find me a Malinois male or female that doesn't have a black colored snout. Also, are you saying you don't have black snout dogs in your facility? HOW DOES THIS EVEN MAKE SENSE?! Paul essentially was telling my wife that the way we're training our dog was wrong. He made my wife feel like an inadequate handler/owner and made her and my puppy feel uncomfortable. Paul also admitted that our boy seemed like he was well trained... Camp Run-A-Mutt, is this your standard? Is this what is to be expected for a temperament test? What more when already stressed moms and dads entrust their babies in your care at your facility for hours on end? It's infuriating and insulting. Ask about their training qualifications if you are seeking training. PLEASE, before you go to Camp Run-A-Mutt in CV, do your research. I hope this is an isolated incident with PAUL and that no one else has to deal with his inappropriate behavior. What a joke. read more

We have been using Camp Run-A-Mutt (CRAM) for nearly five years with outstanding support. We have 2 senior dogs and travel frequently requiring a stay at CRAM. Our boys love their visits and always went to camp with tails wagging and came home very happy. The staff is our extended family and they take great care of the boys. The facility is immaculate whenever we visit and managed to perfection. The opportunity to monitor the boys on the app is a plus whenever we want to checkin. Regrettably we are relocating to the East coast and we're hopeful we can find another place like CRAM. Don't hesitate on checking this facility as the place to take you pets. read more
