Was not expecting much. It was Cinco de Mayo, boy oh boy, dinner was fantastic. The seafood soup was absolutely incredible. Lobster, crab legs, shrimp etc. A meal in it self. I was really surprised to log on and find these terrible reviews for Campeche. First, they did a phenomenal job turning an abandon, dumping building into a warm, cute place that reminds you of being in Mexico (sans dirt and sand). Our service was good. Most important, I know, how is the food? Well, I was pretty satisfied. I didn't care for the guacamole which is a bummer as that's my fav starter at a Mexican place, but everyone was happy with their entrees and I didn't feel like we overpaid at all. WARNING: FULL OF FLIES. STAY AWAY! FLY EXPERIENCE: As soon as food was brought to our table, flies were all over our table. At one point, there were 3 flies at our table...At first, we tried to eat quickly while supervising the files...then we told the waiters the problem and they saw us swatting them away...then, a fly landed on my straw and I asked for a replacement straw...AND then one landed on my food, followed by a second fly...I called the waiter again, who came over and saw the flies flying around my plate. I told him what happened, and asked him to take away my plate (I ate less than 1/3rd)...Apart from the flies, the food was also blah. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE: I asked that my meal be removed from the check they brought, and a lady explained that only 1/2 could be removed based on me having ate some of it! She also said that the flies were not the restaurant's fault. I disagree, WE WERE INDOORS AND RESTAURANTS SHOULD BE CLEAN enough not to have an army of flies! Please DO NOT WASTE your money in this place! A friend and I wanted to eat at an authentic Mexican restaurant. So we tried this spot! We both ordered the Carne Asada platillo. I had asked for the meat medium, it wasn't and the meat was not seasoned well! Then we get our bill, little did we know that the price was going to be $45 for the platillo, $45??!! The online menu said it was $28. I asked our waiter, why so much for the carne asada, he said it was "market price". I know market price is like $9 per pound, maybe $11 if you do not live in the city, but $45!!! And the amount of food you get with it (side of rice, beans, salad) is not worth $45!! The only thing authentic about this restaurant was the music! I'm appalled on how overly priced the food is there!!! read more

It was not very busy. It was 11:30 on a Saturday afternoon. Our menus were sticky and dirty from spilled salsa. I eat poblano peppers at every Mexican Restaurant we visit so i know good authentic tasting ones. Mine were very sour and did not look very good. The beef enchilada was made with ground beef. The carne asada was very bland, almost watered down tasting. Then the worst part was when I actually watched the waitress put a basket of chips from a table of people who had left back under the warmer by the other chips to be served again! I have been here a few times and it never disappoints! They have a cute little patio and pretty decent food for Galena. I absolutely love the service here. We went here when they were 15 mins away from closing and asked if we could come in for some appetizers and drinks and they were very happy to accommodate us. The inside of the restaurant looked like it used to be a service garage. It was dark, but not in that 'romantic lighting' sort of way. The tables were smushed and a bit too close for comfort, so I recommend eating outside. The reason why I'm giving it 3 stars is because the bathroom was dirty (ew) and the place wasn't ventilated. It smelled like gasoline fumes. Hence, one of the reasons I figured it was an old service station. (Also, the big garage doors was another major clue...what can I say, I could be Nancy Drew!) The chips and salsa weren't too great, but my husband's fish tacos were amazing. I ordered the fajitas and the portion was HUGE. Although the decor isn't anything to write home about, the food here is actually better than the other Mexican restaurant around the corner. My husband and I visit Galena a few times a year. And despite it all, because of our deep passion for Mexican food, this place will be a regular stop for us. We'll just suck it up, eat outside and wait to use the bathroom at our hotel. I was here for lunch on 6/23/12 and I thought it was fabulous! The only reason I even knew about the place is because I had driven everywhere for parking and saw the outdoor patio which looked like heaven. They are located on the very East side of Main Street, by Procento's. I sat outside and was given chips, hot sauce and tomatoes/pico. I really liked the fresh tomatoes/pico. It was fresh and sitting outside with iced tea made me feel like I was back at a resort on the beach. They have a soothing water fountain in the middle of their patio. I ordered the fish tacos and they were so flavorful, made with tilapia. The first time I've seen fish tacos where the fish isn't deep fried, which makes them healthier. I make these at home all the time with tilapia. If you're looking for a relaxing lunch on a warm day, this is the place to be. read more

Very disappointed to be forced to sit outside in 40 degree weather when the inside dining area was totally empty 2:00 in the afternoon. The man seating us said the inside was reserved for people with reservations starting at 3:00. The patio was cold despite heaters placed about. Food was okay, and service was very good. No one was seated inside during the time we were there, we left at 3:45. Plenty of time to have served us indoors before late day reservations.Several others seated around us were unhappy as well. Visually, the patio is nice and well decorated. The inside is ok too. When we came for dinner on a Saturday night, a keyboardist was outside playing live music and greeted us when entering. It was a nice touch. The service was just ok, definitely a need for improvement when it comes to listening. We had a group of 7 and our server was nice, don't get me wrong. But he needed to be reminded twice that one of us in the group asked for sour cream and guacamole on the side. He brought out the sour cream but she never received her guacamole and she's not the type to ask a third time, so we dropped it. We ended up all getting sour cream on the side and we were shocked to see our bill, seeing that it was $1.50 just for sour cream. This is the first Mexican restaurant I've ever been to that charges for sour cream. And the fact he didn't mention it would be extra was disappointing, since I think a couple of us would have opted out. It's one thing if you provide sour cream originally and we want more of it, but the entrees don't come with sour cream.... it's just not usual and $1.50 seems like way too much for a tiny serving. Fresh ingredients. Best guacamole pretty much ever. Great variety of well made margaritas on the slightly limier/sour side which I like vs. sweeter. Great service even when unexpectedly busy on a Tuesday night when everyone wants to sit on the patio. Owners step up to help out all the time. Mom does all the cooking. Great to see a cozy, family run restaurant that doesn't miss a detail to keep the place clean, organized, delicious and friendly. So much so good, I forgot to mention that I LOVE their salsa that comes complementary to the table. Solid Mexican food with great service. This is a staple for us when we visit Galena. I would like to see some more diverse tequila cocktail recipes though. They accommodated my request for a tequila highball, but had to give directions on how to make one, which is odd since it's considered a pretty standard drink. I think branching out from Margaritas would be great!! Kudos for being willing to accommodate my request though and they did a pretty good job at that! read more

Love love love this place. We come here every time we visit Galena. I get something different every time and have never been disappointed. My picky kid scarfed down the guacamole and loves the rice and beans. They even sang me a song and brought me ice cream for my birthday! Our waiter was great and attentive. I wish I could remember his name to give him praise. He came back often and dealt with the babies having melt downs. Despite the heat we ate on the porch. Food was just alright. They advertise it as authentic Mexican, but the ultimate burrito was really bland. The guacamole dip came with literally 5 chips and was $13. It was very tasteless, apparently the crunchy guac has all the good stuff you expect out of guacamole. The regular dip was just mashed up avocado with seemingly nothing else. There were a lot of flies, but I don't really hold that against them because they're doing their best considering everything going on with COVID. The waitress was also attentive and polite. This restaurant and the manager, Keith, have zero clue about what the hospitality industry is or how to provide customer service. First, reservations mean nothing. I booked this restaurant a week out for a table of four as we were coming to Galena for the weekend. I received confirmations for our reservation. We arrived at the restaurant early to see if they possibly had a table ready, if not, we would come back at 7 for our reservation. Keith told us that he had nothing and even if we came back at 7 p.m., he wasn't sure as he had a full house and 55 people with reservations for 7 p.m.. They are overbooking people. We told him we would be back at 7. He told us he had a table for us outside - it was 40 degrees and no heater..... We said we would be back at 7 for an indoor table. We were around the corner having a drink waiting for 7 p.m. and I got a phone call with an automated message telling me our table was ready, along with a text. When we got there, he told us he had two high top tables that he pushed together for four.... When he walked us to the table, there were two regular tables set for two..... One set up on one side of a walkway, the other set up about 10 feet away against a wall.....both by the kitchen door. Really? This is nothing that he said - we are there for a weekend and you are separating a party of four with a reservation that was made well in advance. And....no one cared.... The attitude was oh well, too bad, don't eat here, we don't need your business. Well, that doesn't settle well.... Who in their right mind would want to frequent an establishment with such lousy - non-customer oriented attitudes. Whether the food is good or not, you are in the hospitality industry. We found you to be in the hostile industry. Don't spend your money at an establishment like this. There are many small businesses and restaurants that were great in this town and appreciated our business. We come back a number of times during the year and this will never be a restaurant to frequent. Soooo bad. read more

This was another place I stopped by while I was bar hopping around Galena. I started out with a tequila sunrise and eventually ended up drinking Mexican beer by the end of the evening. What made the atmosphere really neat was a keyboardist playing and singing while you dined. I made some requests and he took the time to learn the notes and allowed me to sing along while he played. I was probably the only one who was requesting songs and I had a blast doing it. Prior to leaving I tipped him because he made my night and my whole experience there totally worth it. Despite some not so great yelp reviews, we decided to give this place a try. WOW. We were not disappointed. My margarita was fantastic...and STRONG, no skimping on the alcohol here! Ordered the chicken enchiladas verde - chicken was FRESH and flavorful. The beans and rice were even very good (tasted fresh). My husband ordered the shirmp mole enchiladas and was raving about them. Our server (older gentleman, may have been the owner) was very friendly and attentive. Great food and service...leave any pretentious opinions at the door give it a try! read more

I brought a couple of out-of-town visitors here for a week night dinner, and took advantage of the outdoor patio. The patio is comfortable and attractive, and the host very gracious and friendly. We were greeted by our server in due course. She turned out to be quite the impatient person when we took our time with deciding on drinks or dishes. Again, the usual Galena server reverse approach where the customer is there for the server. I just don't get that. And then there was the somewhat needy musician on the patio who tried to engage us and every other customer in some interactive conversation, instead of just playing while we all maintained our own private conversations. To me, the music and the musician on this small patio was more of an annoyance or a distraction than an enhancement of the dining experience. And more flies than I've ever seen in one place all summer. I think next time I might just eat indoors. As for the food, the menu is very comprehensive with lots of standard Mexican fare, many a la carte items and combination platters. we each opted for the latter. Mine was 1/2/carne asada, Chile relleno with rice and beans. The steak was nicely done and it weighed in on thisat about 4 ounces. The Chile was a cheese-filled poblano and was very good. Rice and refried beans were pretty awful. My friends enjoyed there enchilada quesadilla combos, though to me the quesadillas were sad little things. One little tortilla folded over with melted cheese. The salsas offered with chips were unremarkable, one resembling nothing more than a dish of crushed tomatoes dumped from a can and flavored with hot sauce. The tab for these mostly mediocre meals was around $25.00 per person with one drink, tax and tip. So not bad, but really for Mexican and things like rice and refried beans, to me it was all worth about half that. I will probably come back to try some of the a la carte items like the fish tacos ($5.00 each) or a burrito. And skip the tasteless side dishes. Or maybe breakfast? And again, eat indoors to minimize the multi-tasking challenge of eating drinking, chatting with friends, swatting flies and emotionally validating the musician. read more
