If I could give this place 0 stars I would. Extremely poor service. My family and I had a horrible time. Not only is this camp ground absolutely filthy and unsanitary, but the staff are some of the most cruel people i've ever met. We faced MANY racist situations with the one groundskeeper (white middle aged man, brown hair). My family will never be back and we will continue to spread the word of the place. read more

No frills here. Dry camping only. They have a bath house with free showers but it's close to beach on the saco with fairly decent sized lots Which is the only reason we go. This time, I was a little creeped out. We were one of only 2 campsites in the whole park on our last night. I was awoken at midnight by what sounded like a bear rummaging outside our popup. I got up and saw it was a man walking down the road with a little flashlight dragging a garbage bag down the Rocky dirt road making all that noise and he was just standing there in the road behind our camper for a minute or two. It was weird and nerve racking. Then about 2 hours later, I get woken up again. A pickup truck was trying to come in the campground but was stopped I assume by their night watch guy. Headlights were shining right in our windows. This was our second time camping here but first time being spooked. Will we go back? Not sure yet. read more

My friends and I (a group of mature adults) have been camping at the Saco River for years. We've tried many of the local campgrounds, some experiences more positive than others. One common factor I find amongst the campground owners is they take their authority far too seriously to where they appear to be on a self- absorbed power trip. That is what I found at Canal Bridge this weekend, and at several other campgrounds in the past. Yes, I realize rules are to keep everyone safe, especially since many of these campgrounds along the Saco River foster a 'party atmosphere' for young adults. Rules should be enforced in an effective manner, but I did not like creepy vibes the owners of Canal Bridge gave us by driving up and down the roads with spotlights pointed at the campsites. Clearly state the campground rules and show your authority when the situation calls for it, but most groups were well-behaved this weekend and their tactics weren't necessary. There was also the sarcastic attitude I got from the employee at the front gate when I accidentally almost drove past him to meet my friends at our campsite. "You don't want a parking ticket now do ya?" Oh please ... no I don't, but a simple explanation of the check-in process would have been better. At one point this weekend, as we sat around our campfire, we witnessed one of the employees' trucks bolting down the road, tires squealing while leaving a trail of dust. This is the same road with a posted speed limit of 10 mph that campers walk up and down. Rules are for everyone to obey, so I was pretty angry to see that ridiculous display of nonsense by an employee. Also, we were told to lower our music once it was time, yet our neighboring campsites continued to shout and light fireworks into the early hours of the morning. I'm giving some credit here because Canal Bridge offers some decent campsites, especially the ones that are waterfront. There is a bath house with showers that is super convenient. The owners keep it as clean as possible, even though I'm sure that is not an easy task. However, the creepy lights on the top of the truck need to go. I felt so uneasy whenever that vehicle approached. This isn't the first review I've posted about similar behavior at Fryeburg campgrounds. I always feel the need to vent about this when I return home. Maybe it's time for me trade my tent for the Marriott, but I'm so over the "creepy tough guy" act. read more

Beware, like others have said, I booked a site at this campground for the first week of September, I contracted covid-19 and had to cancel my reservation. Reserve America won't refund my money, tells me I need to get my refund through canal bridge campground and there in no working phone number to contact this campground. There is nothing in Reserve America's cancelation policy stating that if you cancel within due time you won't get a refund. I am now getting the run around from them and have tried 3 different phone numbers listed online for this campground as well as the number given to me by Reserve America without being able to get through to them. It's been a month and a half and still no refund, disputed the charge through my bank and Reserve America is disputing me back. I will not be going back to this campground or using Reserve America again. read more

This review is targeting the business practice and booking. We never actually stayed at the campground as our plans changed and we had to cancel our reservations for the minimum 2 night stay 6 days in advance. I was still charged the $30/night fee for the tent only site. The booking website ReserveAmerica removed it self from the exchange as "the campground has no stated policies regarding cancellation." I repeatedly attempted to call the campground to dispute the charges and got the "'run around." Jeff, their employee attempted to be helpful however admitted himself that after working there for several months he was not aware of the cancellation policy. Exactly my point, no stated policy so give me a full refund. I'm still waiting for a call back . Beware of cancellation as I'm still paying for a plot of land I won't be using! read more

I am torn between 3 stars and 4 stars. The owner Paul took over this campground two years ago and really is trying hard to not have a party campground. He mentioned several times on the phone that quiet is at 10pm. He even said it again at check in. That was exactly what we were looking for. Unlike the other viewer we found the campground just fine and I have found most campgrounds hard to navigate at night so we try to arrive during the daylight hours. The site was pretty nice size wise and I thought a fair price. When we checked in Paul handed us a roll of TP as they have had probls with people clogging up the toilets. I can understand that. So the first night we are up til about midnight around the fire talking quietly. We notice that the folks behind us are getting louder and louder. We shout a few be quiets but they go unnoticed. Finally at 2:30 am I phone the manager who does not answer. The drunks go to sleep finally around 3:30 am. I hunt down Paul the next morning and tell him what happened. He apologizes and offers us a refund and assures us tonight will be different. So around midnight the next night Paul comes over with a flashlight and says hello and assures us that he is on patrol. All is well until around 2am and the drunks start up again. The only diff tonight is that there is no spanish music playing. I text Paul but in his trailer with the ac on I doubt he can hear me. Finally at about 3am I get out of my tent and walk over and well go ballistic on them. Sleep deprivation must be a big trigger for me. I am normally the most non confrontational person. I was so upset after going over there it took me another 2 hours to get to sleep. At least my anger made my body temp higher (it was 45 degrees!) I find Paul the next day and he can't believe they did this again and he is going to boot them out (though they were prob leaving Sunday anyway) and he is moving us to a river view site. Paul also hands us a coupon for free 3 nights of camping. As we are up packing up that morning for the move the rude neighbors feel the need to blast their stereo as they are packing. Rude doesn't describe this group. Our new site is awesome, we have normal neighbors and that night we get to sleep! Paul and his family are a great group of people and I feel that they will get this campground to be a great place. Re the bathrooms. Cold showers are free, hot showers are $2 and you need to find someone to turn that part on I think. I think all in all the sites were very nice and its a no frills campground which is what I wanted. The river was nice and I only saw people rafting or kayaking down it and all were well behaved. On a weekend night I am not sure how quiet the river sites would be as the campground across the river is wild from what I hear. I am looking forward to going back again and I really do feel that Paul and his family will get this campground turned around. read more

This one is going to be a long one that I'm actually really upset to have to write. My boyfriend and I have been coming to Canal Bridge Campground for the last 3 years in conjunction with his annual birthday floatilla that he holds at the end of the summer. Each year, we've reserved site 29 which connects to the adjoining site 28. Due to the fact that the site doesn't have a picnic table and only has 1 fire put between the two of them, the campground always treated them as 1 site and had us book it as such. We've enjoyed that site for it's proximity to the water, it's privacy and the fact that it's large enough to accommodate us and our guests. Flash forward to our 2017 trip that happen just this past weekend. The Thursday before we're supposed to camp, we get an automated email from the campground letting us know we've been bumped to site 33, which is clear on the other side of the campground - no explanation. Where we expected a larger party this year, some of our guests booked site 27, and now we were separated from our group. Keep in mind, we start organizing this trip months in advance and had booked our sites in June. I contacted the campground to ask what had happened and was told that they had booked site 28 out to another party over the website, and friends of theirs has also booked site 26. Since site 26 actually didn't exist in the campground (but was listed on the website), they removed us from site 29 to keep their party together. I politely explained that we had guests in site 27 and that we booked our site well in advance and the lady on the other line didn't seem to care. It was only after the guests in site 27 called that we were accommodated and moved to sites 31 and 32 in order to keep the party together. To keep a long story to a relative minimum, our stay wasn't as pleasant as it had been in the past. From the moment we arrived on Friday night, the management kept patrol past our site looking for reasons to harass us. Friday night was a slow night - our neighbors finally arrived at about 9:00pm in site 33. Upon arriving, the management asked them if they wanted them to go over and tell us to "shut up." We know this specifically because we're friendly people and we befriended the folks over in site 33 and they told us literally all about it. Our party (which on Friday night was a total of 4 people) was sitting around our campfire talking at a pretty low volume, listening to an emergency crank radio that you couldn't hear from more than 10 feet away. Mind you, it was 2 hours before the posted "quiet time" of 11:00pm in a mostly empty campground. Regardless, management came over and told us to be quiet. A half hour later, they crept over in the dark and began to spy on us. Shortly after that we decided that we'd had enough and went to bed as it was going to be an early day the next morning. Saturday night went by without much of an issue, but Sunday morning as soon as we were up, management came over and started barking at us about payment for the additional 3 people that had stayed overnight. In previous years, we always just settled up with the campground Sunday morning at check out as often times we didn't know who would be staying overnight and who would just be staying for supper after the float. It was never a problem in the past. I definitely understand not wanting to be stiffed (which wasn't going to happen), but we had been nothing but respectful our entire stay and there was zero reason for the rude manner in which we were treated - nor did she single any other sites out other than our's. Upon paying, she charged each person $13.00 rather than the price of $12.00 quoted on the website (and while we're on the topic of payment, we had to repay the 9% sales tax for being moved - go figure). During our stay we were treated like a bunch of college kids there for an end of summer rager (not that there's anything wrong with those kids - we met a bunch of the river and they were pretty fun). In reality. we're a group of adults in our mid 30's, many of us parents, that like to have a good time but fall asleep before the quiet hours even come. We left the site better than how it was when we arrived. Nothing we did warranted how we were treated during our stay, and how our booking was handled beforehand. In conclusion, I don't know what the future hold for our annual floatilla in the future. I guess what sucks the most about the whole ordeal is that we intended to get married next year in Bridgton and hold our reception down the Saco River along with food and camping at Canal Bridge Campgrounds. We intended to book at least 15 sites. Due to what transpired over the weekend, we couldn't have that conversation with management and start finalizing those plans. Before this weekend, I would have given the campground a 5 star rating and would have raved about my experience and good memories there. Now, I don't know. read more

This land is beautiful, its a shame the employees were so neglectful and disrespectful to the campers there. Upon arrival, Jeff seemed like a stand up guy but through out the 4 days we were there his true colors showed. Jeff gave us permission to park our vehicle and plug into the bathrooms electric, he even turned on the power for us to use it. 2 days later we put a tent near the van to use to store music equipment & props, which Jeff knew about and agreed to having us use on the property. We were then told by Mica we had to move it because of a fire code but the van was okay, to which we complied. Instead of being respectful Mica continued to berate other members of our group which was incredibly upsetting but we let it go. The next day he tells us we need to move the van from the spot Jeff let us park it. We said okay and started to pack everything but instead of giving us time They called the police, the officer came and spoke to us, he explained that Jeff shouldve never let us park there to begin with and that we could move our vehicle and continue with the fire performance and band playing on the beach. We moved our stuff without a hassle but when we started setting up on the beach Jeff and Mica then called the police again and lied to the police about what they gave us permission for. We were harrassed by Jeffs friends who he sent in there to start a fight(which i have on video) , they touched our property and nearly started a riot. I tried to speak to the officer and Mica was incredibly rude and told me to go away because I was stating factual information that they were lying to the police about. They then made 25 of us pack up and leave the campground and the sites that we paid for. On top of all of that, The bathrooms were disgusting. The staff was incredibly neglectful to them and the campers needs. The bathrooms were never clean, People from our camp were in there plunging the toilets for them and We constantly had to bring our own toilet paper because it was frequently empty and there was no soap or anything to dry your hands.When another camper seperate from us was going up to ask about the toilet paper, shes was met by rudeness saying the cops were there for her even though she was completely unattached to the issue at hand and then with a "what do you want" instead of "what can i help you with. The showers were also covered in hair and grime. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS CAMPGROUND to anyone unless they get their act together and hire a better staff. read more

Sorry guys-this is going to be a long one. When my friends told me we were going camping on the Saco for one of our friends birthdays, I'll admit, I was annoyed. It's been a long time since I desired to get smashed while floating down a river with hundreds of other people. Actually, that was never on my wish list to begin with! But, I love to camp and love to spend time with my friends so I decided to suck it up and not be such a priss about it. J and I couldn't get out of work early on Friday and started the drive around 7pm. We would have been there sooner but there was a ton of underage drinking busts going on at the campgrounds up the road and honestly, the cruiser lights blinded us so badly that we never saw the campground sign and drove several extra miles before we realized we must have passed it. We finally found it but no thanks to the Canal Bridge Campground owners. They should really put a light on the sign. We pull in to the campground and are unable to drive to our site because there is yet another underage bust going on. I am blinded by a cop car whose headlights are shining directly into my face. john and I wait as patiently as we can and finally an officer comes up to our car, turns off his lights and lets us go through. By the time we are driving through the campground looking for our friends and site in the "family" section, it's about 11pm. The road through the campground isn't very clearly marked, at least at night. I had a really difficult time figuring out whether I was on a road or driving through people's sites. I ended up trying to turn my car around at one point because we thought we had gone the wrong way. Next thing you know, there is a guy wearing a headlamp blocking us from driving any farther. Without introducing himself as the owner (as he should have), he snarls at us that it's awfully late to be driving around the campground. I explain to him why we're driving around in circles in the dark and tell him we're trying to find our site. After a small inquisition, he finally tells us what direction our friends are in but then makes sure to yell at us again to keep the "noise level down". We find our site and our friends, set up our tent and chat quietly with out friends for a bit. I notice that the sites are crazy close together. They're so close that I ask my friends where I should park because it looks like the group next to us was also parked on our site. Around 1am, a friend went to use the women's bathroom and finds it locked. That's kind of weird. It wasn't locked earlier (but there wasn't any toilet paper). We're awoken around 6am by drunks who are eager drunks who were at the next campsite over. I swear, I have never heard so many coolers being packed for such a long time. They must have had a never ending supply of ice! Then some girl starts screaming that my car is blocking her in and she wants to go to the store and she can't believe we're still sleeping! I would have never parked at the opening to MY paid for camping site (expensive by the way, $29 a night per couple) if I thought I would need to move it at 6am. If the sites weren't so close together, there would be less confusion about whose site is where. Luckily the dumb drunk girl found a way to get her car out on her own site. Good thing because I wasn't coming out of the tent unless it was to punch her. Finally decide to get up and hit the ladies room. Well, lucky for me, it's unlocked but hmmm, they still haven't restocked the toilet paper. Not a big deal since I always bring some and hey, it happens with camping, I'm sure they'll restock later in the weekend. Nope, there was no sign of TP or any bathroom cleaning the entire weekend. Why bother having toilet paper dispensers at all? One good thing is that our site had a small path that led directly to the campground's private beach so we had easy access to go swimming. There were plenty of drunk canoe'ers floating by and most of the time it wasn't too crazy. There were a few party-raft boats that took up the entire width of the river and were throwing trash in the river which was annoying but most of the kids floating by weren't causing any trouble. We actually had the river to ourselves for a while which was nice. It was the perfect temp for swimming, even if it was just a little shallow. Went to take a shower after swimming all day (because I was covered head to toe in sand) and oh surprise, no hot water. Ice cold shower. I know, most people don't even shower when camping but If I go to a campground that says they have showers, I expect the shower to be hot. I had fun with my friends and being able to swim after a short walk is nice but overall, I was completely unimpressed by this place. It's okay for obnoxious drunk people to be loud at 6am (at our "family site") but me driving into the campground at 11pm is a huge deal. I have no interest in camping here again. read more

I made a reservation for 2 at Canal Bridge campground the first week in July for the weekend of 8/24. I booked a site next to my friend's using the map provided on the website. On Friday evening I checked in and attempted to pay for a 3rd person to join our group. John was the man processing my check in. He informed me he wasn't good with a computer, couldn't apply the additional cost, $26.16, to my debit card, but told me where I could find the nearest ATM. The website reads this business takes credit cards. The business may, but John seems to be a cash only kind of guy. John also informs me that there are no picnic tables due to "vandalism", and that he sent me an email the night before expressing I had a 60/40 chance of getting a table, not in my favor, and that I should bring my own if I wanted one. He did offer not to charge me for my additional guest if I went out and bought a picnic table for the campground. I declined. I confirm the site number with him according to his map on the computer and head out to unpack and meet my friends. Lovely yellow birdhouses adorn the trees with site numbers...wait, what? The numbers are not in order and the site I requested, paid for in July, and have now paid an additional fee are not as indicated on the website map? I head back to speak with John about the error in the site number and intended reservation. The marijuana smoke rolls out of his camper like Cheech and Chong have stopped by for the evening. John informs me I can't trust the map online and that's my problem. He's not changing my site and someone has already booked the one I'm supposed to be in. Hey John, do you suppose the people reserving the site I'm in think they're in a different one? Not his problem. He also informs me it's a family campground, quiet hours are 11pm-7am and that I better observe those rules or I'm in big trouble. Ok. I'm a 55 year old woman with a full head of white hair and glasses riding the end of my nose. I guess I should feel flattered I was being classified as a wild woman out to keep the children awake all night with my crazy debauchery. I head back to set up my tents and unpack. John and his "old lady" arrive in their golf cart to jack me up about parking too close to the road, then about trying to park in the site across from me that's empty and the one I reserved so that I can unpack because the site I was given has got stumps and trees everywhere and my SUV won't fit. John and the little woman reek of reefer from 6 feet away. Yeah he's driving around in his golf cart, acting like a Park Narc, under the influence. At the 11 o'clock bewitching hour everyone in our group has gone to bed. The party a few sites down that has been rather loud all evening starts to howl. Yes like wolves. Howling continues, music gets louder and they become more obnoxious. They also have 3-4 picnic tables. They were not asked to quiet down, weren't thrown out, and kept the tables all weekend. They told a member of our group they paid John $20 to leave them alone. I don't know who owns this campground, but please change your map or re-hang the bird houses to make them in numerical order and match them to your map. Maybe have someone who hasn't been toking up all day follow the map and your rules. John's real good at acting all tough to the polite, respectful guests. He obviously doesn't want to go toe to toe with the large, drunk, loud dudes. This campground does have hot showers, one for men, one for women. And three bathroom stalls. For the number of sites there should be more available. read more

I was told the campgrounds are closing next season... I had such a great time last weekend... our group would like todo it again at the end of august if not next season. So I really hope the camp is still going tobe open! The Town of Fryburgs phones are going to be ring ing off the hook and the letters will start pooring their office.
