River Run is a fantastic camp site, with canoe rentals, and with shuttle service to the top of the Saco for people with their own kayaks and canoes. The sites are huge, the people are friendly, and they have great facilities. The bathrooms and the showers make the camping experience a pleasure. They also have ice and firewood guys that come around in karts and drop them right off at the campsites for a very nominal charge. The sites are spacious, a little lacking in privacy, but very nicely maintained. On Saturday nights they also have Live music, which can be heard at the campsites closeby, or, if you'd like, you can go right up and enjoy with a crowd of people. Great campsite to enjoy the Saco River, although it's definitely not the best camp site for families; however, it's not loud and crazy like many other Saco campgrounds. rented a canoe and camped here for the weekend. it's the way to go if you're going to do the saco river - one stop shopping. most places offer the same trips, slightly different but comparable prices, but this place offers the convenience of getting the canoe and camp site in one place. they'll drop you off upriver and you come back to camp. they have about 20 campsites just off the river ranging from large sites in a field setting, river sites and wooded sites. $10/per adult per night is a pretty good price and all the sites are within about 100 paces of a bathroom. no showers. the campground itself is very nice and well kept. they patrol most of the night to make sure everyone is ok and to keep the noise down. the canoes were nice and well-kept. they floated. for our trip, we had them drop us at canal bridge and we canoed back to river run. nothing was better than jumping into the river after a day paddling & drinking beers. read more

Well there's only so much that you can say about a place you rented a canoe from. 1) the canoes worked. 2) they picked us up at the agreed site as promised. They came with a van so we weren't left behind waiting while they dropped off the drivers at the cars to come and get the rest. Word of advice!!!! If they tell you that you need to call by a particular time to get a pick up, I suggest you make sure you call before that time. We were supposed to call before 5pm for pick up, I called at about 4:45pm, even though we were still en-route. When I called again to double check they left at 5:05pm there was no one picking up the phone. Travel on the Saco River, I highly recommend. Ones you manage to find a site it's very lovely. No one around, just the water (lots of fish) and nature. Just remember that all the property along the river is private, so respect the owners and nature.. :) read more

Great, family run canoe rental place. Check in process was easy, though a bit hectic. Lots of people were checking in at the same time though, so it's understandable. Staff graciously helped load our stuff up into the trucks/vans. Only downside is that they forgot to give all of us (13 people) paddles and life vests when we checked in, but again it was busy and hectic, so we just asked before taking off, they laughed and grabbed the stuff. Dropped us off where we wanted. Canoe floated great and fit all our stuff for one night of camping. Had a blast on the Saco! A must-do for anyone in New England during the summer! Next summer, I will go to River Run first (and only) for my canoe rental! read more

This campground is a hidden gem! I've been camping there for over 15 years. Spacious most sites are on the water or a minute walk to it. Weekends are fun and during the week a little quieter. The grounds are kept up so well. The owners are fantastic! It's a great place to let loose and relax without 1000 people running around. I see deer every time I walk in the morning. Love walking up to the beach and tubing back to our site. read more

This place is pretty awesome. The family who run it are very friendly and helpful. The shower and bathroom facilities look brand new and are well-maintained. You'll have to pay for a shower but it's only $1 for 6 minutes. If you don't want to walk all the way across to the bathrooms, there are outhouses around that almost smell pleasant. We stayed one night before heading out to do 20 miles in a canoe. They have their own shuttle vans that can drop you off at different locations and you paddle back to your car. They will provide you with a canoe, paddles and lifejackets. The canoes are in good shape and are big enough to hold enough gear to keep 4 people alive on the river. The shuttles start running at 9am and it's a good idea to check in early if you want an early start. I wish the camp sites had been a bit farther from the road. We were way out in western Maine so I didn't expect a ton of traffic but I was fairly surprised at the amount. The traffic noise wasn't too bad at night but during the early morning it got quite loud, especially if you were sleeping in a tent. read more

The annual trip down the Saco River in the summer has been a tradition amongst a large group of friends for the past five years. You can even call us Saco veterans. Just to be clear, we are not the meatballs who yell SACO! at everyone, either. This past year, we decided to try River Run, as they offered a shuttle service and an on-site campground from which we could depart from on our last day of adventure. From the moment we arrived, we were treated with hostility from the older woman who owns the company. Think of the evil old nun from your childhood (or the movies) who would just assume beat you with a stick than answer your basic consumer questions. The poor demeanor of the staff and their lack of customer service put a damper on the beginning of the trip; neither of which you expect nor want on a weekend camping trip. Each canoe was charged an extra $40 for not returning on time, which was neither in my written contract nor verbally expressed to me. I didn't fight it, as I just wanted to cut ties with River Run and move on. We were one of three separate groups that were late and had to listen to snide remarks and further scolding from the owner. At least the owner's daughter was crushing Bud Lights and flying around on a 4-wheeler, which was unintentionally hilarious. There is nothing good that differentiates River Run from the many other canoe rental companies along the Saco River. Use a different company and enjoy your time on the river. read more

We stayed at the River Run Campground and I have to say getting a canoe and to the river couldn't have been easier. They picked up me and 17 of my friends directly at our campsite, drove us to the drop off point and unloaded our canoes. Then, they meet you at the ending point and load up your canoes again. Literally all you have to do is get in the canoe and float to the bottom. I highly recommend them for rentals and the campground. If there was a no star rating for this place I would choose it. AVOID THIS PLACE! The staff is very unprofessional and quite rude. We brought in a group of over 20 who all rented canoes and paid for camping. The old lady that works there is unfriendly and a stickler. It was not enough for her that she made thousands of dollars on our one group with zero effort on her part but she tried making one of our friends (the one who organized the entire trip) pay $30 for a 10 minute ride with the rest of the group because he had brought his own canoe!! She fought with him (seriously screaming into the car) in front of everyone when he said it was ridiculous that one extra person in a van full of 10 others, who brought her all the business, had to pay so much for a ride down the street. Then, when we returned the boats 15 minutes past their 5pm cut off, after they told us we would not be charged a late fee, the company went ahead and charged my credit card an additional $40 (for 15 minutes!!!) Mind you, this card was not even the one used to pay for the entirety of the trip but was simply used as something to put the initial deposit on when we reserved a canoe a month prior. When I called to ask her why this had happened she snapped at me and told me to look at my contract that stated a 5 pm return time etc etc. Not only this but she wrote a letter to my credit card company with which I disputed the charge!! Sorry to say but she is an old HAG who thinks its okay to treat paying customers (and trust me their service is not cheap) like crap. Needless to say, we will NEVER be using this company again on our annual trips to Saco. Too bad for her we travel in groups at least that large every year and she has lost a significant amount of customers. The frustration this place has caused me makes my blood boil... :( read more

My friends and I have used this company every time we go to Saco because we have liked their service. In fact, we recommended it to a group of friends who have never been to Saco. We were going to Saco this coming weekend, but I had a medical emergency and had to cancel one canoe (which will be reserved by another friend this week). I explained the situation and was still charged the deposit. I understand it's not that much ($30) and in some situations it should be charged when cancellations have no legitimate excuse. But so much for the human and family business aspect. Sometimes people are in situations where every little bit of money helps and as humans, businesses should be more considerate, especially when they are not losing money and gaining new customers. read more

I have been going to river run for 14 years now. Great camp sites!! Not one on top of each other. They have fields for the party people to stay on and those r huge too! It's also Right on the river. And now they even have showers!! I don't stay anywhere else. Unlike most camp grounds they dont bother you and you can have a fire going as long as you like. This place has always been a hidden gem. Thank you and bravo we can't imagine camping anywhere else!! read more

I don't always write reviews, but when I do, its because I'm extremely bored at work, and just booked my 2018 camping trip.... We camp and canoe 1 or 2 times per year, and for the last 10+ years, there has been no debate or even suggestion to try a new location. Our crew changes slightly from year to year, but there is a core group that has been around for the 10+ years and would also agree with this review. We know how to have a good time, and River Run Canoe + Campgrounds allows us to do exactly that, both at the site, and on the river. Whether you are on a family trip with the kids, or a drunken weekend with the boys, This place is 5 stars. Its a clean, fun, and friendly environment for guest of all ages. Management and employees do a nice job with streamlining the operation on canoe day. There are many challenges with coordinating a group of 15 idiots, getting them on the river is not one of them... read more

If there was an option to give zero stars I would. River Run offers the same services as every other canoe rental place in the Brownfield area. The only difference is they do it with the worst attitude imaginable. We were overcharged, argued with and yelled at. The owner (a short lady? with white hair and a sweet buzz cut) demonstrated her complete lack of professionalism through her disrespectful comments and poor attitude. It seems every other employee (save the owner's daughter, who spends her time drinking bud light while four wheeling around the businesses property - safety first!) was just as sour as the alleged owner. Our group has never had a problem with any other canoe rental company on any of our 3-5 yearly trips for the past 5 years. To be honest, I don't really care about the 40 dollars, just want to save other people the trouble of dealing with the disrespect and lack of customer service on their weekend getaway. The employees all seemed so miserable with their lives and the poor customer service really put a downer on the trip. We have used Saco Bound in the past - I suggest you try them out. read more
