I'd give zero stars if I could. Went to have a bridesmaid dress hemmed, she charged me almost $300 just to have it hemmed. And then charged me another $10 for a "none cash fee" Absolutely horrible. I had asked several times about the pricing and she didn't give me a straight answer, which should have been my first red flag. After weeks of waiting I had to call and see where my dress was, and finally was able to pick it up a week before the wedding. Avoid at all costs. read more

Extremely overpriced. I had a formal dress drycleaned and pressed and was charged $48!! This is almost the price of the dress itself. Unfortunately I didn't do any research on this cleaners and I see Stanton Cleaners on Manayunk charged $8.50 for dresses! How is this place still in operation. Lastly when I went to pick up the dress - the shop was closed, no one was answering the phone and there was no note. I was able to go back and get the dress but this seems like poor business practices. I am going to report them to the BBB for price gouging. read more

Had a really nice blouse I needed altered. Paid a deposit, and an additional 35$, had 2 fittings, went to put it on and the new zipper ripped right off. I went back asking for my money back because I decided I would fix it on my own, but she started lecturing me. She luckily fixed it, which I appreciate. However, before I could even ask if I could try it on in the shop to make sure it works, I had to get out of there because she starting badgering me about how young Americans just don't get it. I have to say that I am very happy with the service that I received at Canal Cleaners. I have a long formal gown that is covered in rhinestones and I didn't realized that I needed it hemmed until the morning of my event. Frantically I started calling around to find a place that could do a last minute hem job and no one was available. I was a little reluctant to try Canal Cleaners due to the poor reviews on Yelp but when I realized that nobody else could squeeze me, I gave them a call. The owner's name is Moon and she was very nice to me over the phone. She told me to hurry up and come in and that's exactly what I did. I showed up with my gown and she rushed me into a changing room. Once I had the dress on, she turned some heaters in my direction to make sure I wasn't cold. She then cleaned off a pair of high heels for me to wear because in the midst of all my rushing, I forgot to bring my own. Moon got to work right away and was giving me compliments the entire time. I thought she was the nicest, sweetest lady I had met in a while. Although she was being super nice, I was still thinking in the back of my head (thanks to all of the poor reviews) that she was going to charge me an arm and a leg so the entire time I kept asking "how much?" "how much??" Moon quoted me a price that I did think was a little high but then again I had nothing to compare it to. Her price was determined due to the nature of the job, the time constraint that I put her under, and the fact that she would have to hand sew my dress because of all the rhinestones. Although it was probably a fair price considering all of those factors, Moon could see my obvious discomfort and together we were able to work out a price that I am more than happy about. I couldn't be more thankful to Canal Cleaners taking me in on such short notice and working everything into my budget. I appreciate her work ethic and I would definitely go back there if I ever needed another tailoring job completed. read more

I am writing as an update to a previous review. The store owner is a liar and is operating under deceptive business practices. AVOID this place at all possible. I filled a complaint with the BBB. The owner responded with lies. She stated that she provides estimates for alteration charges for her customers and that they approve them prior to her performing the alteration. Which is a lie. I went into her shop to pick up my clothing on 2 separate occasions asking her how much the alteration would be and was told that she had to complete the alteration work prior to telling me how much it would cost. DO NOT under any circumstances use this alteration place. Go somewhere else where they value customers and appreciate your business. Horrible place. Avoid. read more

I dropped 3 dresses off (nothing special, no pleats, beads, etc.) and they charged me $70!!!! For 3 dresses!!!! I was stunned! This place is a total racket! I called several of the other dry cleaners in Roxborough and the highest quote I got (and this is for a prom dress) was $12.95. I will be avoiding Canal Cleaners like the plague!! read more

First time experience - I had to drop a suit off to be cleaned for a wedding, but did not have to worry about picking up until 4 days later. However, I was in a rush and decided to use Canal Cleaners instead of my other two regular places. The woman at the shop seemed very friendly, but the prices seem to not be consistent as my wallet was gouged for $17. A friend of mine has previously has his suit cleaned there and was only charged $12, so the price seemed a bit high. I paid in cash in advance, which the woman wrote on the receipt/cleaning tag. However, when my girlfriend went to pick up the suit, the SAME woman charged her for cleaning fee even though the receipt said "PAID". I ended up making a trip to straighten things out, which at first the woman denied the mistake. Then, she pulled the receipts/cleaning tags from the day and found where she had written "PAID" and offered to correct the mistake by returning the second payment. I understand that errors happen, but for $17 my expectations are higher when it comes to service, particularly with accuracy. I most likely will not use this dry cleaner again and spend my money at another small business dry cleaner. read more

Avoid. Overpriced! I had a jacket altered here. Asked prior to leaving how much it would cost. The response was I don't know until I do the work. Went back a week later to pick up the jacket......$102.00!!!!!! When confronted about the gross overcharge for this I was told I could bring the jacket back for a free dry cleaning. Not worthy of a star. I will never ever go back to this place again. The woman refused to give an estimate and then charged me $103 for 7 basic pieces. When I tried speaking with her she refused to change the price and then pulled out a piece of paper and started writing down random numbers and then changing them when they wouldn't add up to the price she'd given me. Felt very taken advantage of and scammed. Everything is overpriced. She just kept saying "Quality!" and then I brought my items home and my jackets were pressed incorrectly. Such a shame. I would honestly report her for fraud. If she has no prices listed for the items, no receipts, what do you think her income books look like? read more

I've never had a problem with Canal Cleaners. The lady up front is very friendly, and learns your name quickly, as well as your pick up/ drop off preferences. I've only cleaned my pants and dress shirts here thus far with no problems. The location is great too. The only suggestion I have for future customers is DON'T LOSE YOUR TICKET!!! It can be a semi-hassle if that happens. read more

Horribly disappointed. I took a gift there to be embroidered and was told to return in a week to pick it up. After a week and a half I returned to pick it up only to find that not only had it not been done, but that she was not able to do it and never bothered to call me in the 10 days that she had the product. This forced me to rush order from another provider to have the product completed in time. She offered nothing to make up for this. She would have just let the product sit there forever had I not come by to pick up what I thought would be a completed product. Terrible customer service. read more
