My parents, fiancé and I all came to eat on Sunday. I really enjoyed the chicken and rice soup. I'm pretty sure it's homemade, at least it definitely tasted like it was. It was really good. My mom had the beef and cheddar and she liked it a lot. My dad loved his pork tenderloin. My fiancé got the chorizo skillet and it looked incredible and I had the western burger, which was also good. The fries were delicious. The meals are very reasonable. They all come with soup or salad and a side for about $11-12. The restaurant was pretty busy, but service was quick and the place was clean. My husband and I found this place thanks to google maps and I'm so glad we stopped in. The ambiance is relaxing and welcoming. Our waitress Janelle was so attentive and friendly. And the food was absolutely amazing!! The salad tasted like it was freshly picked from the garden. Fried mushrooms and mozzarella sticks were perfectly cooked with a crispy crunchy breading and perfectly cooked fresh ingredients. The beef ravioli was flawless! Came for breakfast on a Tuesday morning, not too busy, seated right away. Server came 3, 4 minutes later to take our order. The coffee was genuinely terrible, luke warm brown water. Breakfast was meh - eggs cooked correctly, bacon was well done (didn't ask for it well done) and not great, hash browns were okay. The spread used on the toast wasn't real butter. We usually say breakfast is tough to screw up but alas, 4 Star succeeded. I was visiting my son who lives in the area and this was his pick for dinner. He said that he had eaten here in the past and the food was always good. We got here at around 5pm or so on a Sunday. They weren't all that busy in that about half the tables were empty. My son ordered a sandwich (I forget what kind) and a cup of soup. The soup was a bit salty and had a metallic taste to it. His sandwich, he said, was fine... nothing special. I ordered the buffalo chicken salad. When I ordered, the waitress asked if I wanted the chicken grilled or breaded. I chose grilled. The first thing I need to say is that their buffalo sauce is hot... Not like, oh this is spicy, but full on H-O-T HOT! I've gotten similar salads/sandwiches before and I don't think I've ever had one that was this hot. My husband like things super spicy and even he said it was super hot (I took the leftovers home for him to try). Alright, my fault. I will not ding them for that, though it would be nice if they warned you that it was super, super hot/spicy. And maybe not dump so much hot sauce on the salad. I think there was more hot sauce than there was salad dressing (blue cheese). Since my son and I were talking, I was mostly picking at the cooler parts of the salad... The hard boiled egg, the lettuce and tomato. Much of the lettuce was brown around the edges and a few pieces just looked so old that I picked them out. But the real problem came when I finally went after the chicken breast. The breast was sliced and then placed on the plate. I ate one of the strips and it was so dry and overcooked that it was practically inedible. The thin end of the piece was so overcooked it was almost chicken jerky. There is absolute no way that the chef/cook could NOT have known how overcooked it was, but he (or she) served it anyway. The waitress had shown up before I had tried the chicken (at which time I asked for a to go container because I don't eat all that much and I knew I'd be taking at least half of it home with me). And, I must add that when the waitress showed up, both my son and I asked for more iced tea which never materialized. I mentioned how badly overcooked the chicken was when we went to pay but the lady at the register simply said that I should have told the waitress. Well, I would have if she had ever come around after I had tried the chicken. As I was taking my son home afterward, he mentioned that he had only ever been there for breakfast before and that the people he usually goes with don't really care for the food there but it's one of the cheapest restaurants around that serves breakfast which is why they keep going there. We were greeted by the owner and then our waitress Holly, who was fantastic, and we chose a window booth. Food was cooked perfectly. Biscuits were flaky and sausage gravy had real sausage in it! So tasty! The fluffy scrambled eggs and crispy bacon were all cooked to perfection. My favorite was the potato pancakes! I was really looking forward to homemade potato pancakes and was sorely disappointed. We were hoping for a homemade breakfast and got processed stuff from a bag. Very friendly staff, and fast food prep. All the meals we had were very delicious, and super-low priced! A couple of servers @ The Study Supper Club in LaSalle where we had dinner suggested this place and we were so happy they did. The service was excellent and our server was very friendly and accommodating. The food was great and well worth the price. My husband had corn beef hash & loved it. I had French toast which was good. A visiting trucker said they have the best sausage gravy & biscuits. This visit was horrendous. We were here about 6pm. The place was not busy. 7 tables at the most which is unusual. Sat down. A waitress came over with menus. She took our drink order. About 5 minutes later our waitress came over. I ordered the hot veal cutlet which should have been an open face sandwich plate. I thought it was odd when she asked if I wanted mashed potatoes and gravy. That sandwich comes with mashed potatoes. Hubby ordered the tuna wrap after confirmation that the tuna did not contain onions. When the waitress walked away we looked at each other and said "is she high". This woman was incompetent to say the least. She asked us what we wanted to drink when we clearly had soda and water on the table. She had to repeat everything that we ordered because she kept zoing out. She kept disappearing. Not sure where she would go. Another table got and got extra napkins themselves. Anyway the food was awful. The waitress took my order at the breaded veal cutlet dinner not the hot veal cutlet. I ordered it exactly as the menu states. Hubby said I should have pointed to what I wanted. Really?????? The food was wrong and not hot. The mashed potaoes were not white. I don't even what to consider why the poatoes would not be white. Do not order the tuna. YUCK!!!!!!! Tuna should not be watery. I had no flavor. I presume it was water because the did not drain it. It was so bad hubby ate 1/2 and left the rest. While we were there someone sent back and order of bbq ribs. Lastly when we got up to pay the check, the cashier (owner) was not where to be found. We waited and waited. Another customer, who I believe was a regular, wenting looking for someone to find the owner. He could not find a waitress to go find the owner. The owners wife pulled in the lot with her children. She came in and checked us out. This place has never been a 4 star restaurant. Just basic food cooked fresh. I now I can understand why they are no longer open 24/7. This is not even a review of the food, just the place. Went here for lunch with my family around 1:30pm on a Saturday. There was no one at the front to greet/seat us. When someone did appear, they had trouble figuring out how to seat a party of five. Waited five to ten minutes for a table large enough to seat us opened up. We were told to go-to the table in the back corner, while the previous customer was still putting there tip down. Once seated a bus boy brought us menus and water within a few minutes. We waited almost 15 minutes without any server visiting our table before we got up and left. During the time we were there, we viewed at least one of the wait staff eating while possibly working. There were not more than six tables being served, with at least three or four servers at the time. Pretty sure they all came within six feet of our table, but none of them came to us. Very disappointing when the bus boy is the only person doing there job in a restaurant. read more
