We came through Sugarloaf was hungry pulled over for some Mexican food in new York. talk about some nasty tasting food this is a place I would defiantly not call Mexican food the water tasted Mexican but the food was nothing close to Mexican food. The meat on all of the plates there was six of us was all nasty tasting. i would not go to this place or would i recommend for anyone to go here for Mexican food. This was the last highlight of my bachelorette weekend in the Hudson Valley. A few of my girlfriends and I stopped at this adorable restaurant on our way back to our real lives. Israel and the rest of the staff at the Cancun Inn Restaurant could not have made us feel more welcomed. Not to mention the food was INCREDIBLE. We stopped in here during a walk through Sugar Loaf. I was a little skeptical, but figured what the Hell, not like there's an overwhelming number of options. It's cute and fun inside, I'll give it that. The owner tries a little too hard to be overly friendly. I came in here because I'm hungry, not because I want to stand here in the doorway and joke with you. The wait staff and service were terrific - attentive and friendly without being overbearing. I knew as soon as the quesadillas hit the table that this was not going to be exceptional or authentic Mexican food. The quesadillas were good, but they were a little bland and simply didn't come off as authentic. The margaritas tasted like they were made with Rose's sweetened lime juice, instead of real lime juice. They had an artificially sweet taste that also left an after taste. Neither of us finished ours. The food itself was mediocre, also a little bland. The refried beans had a slightly odd flavor to them; I didn't care for them and I usually love them. Absolutely nothing popped as far as flavor - none of the freshness or brightness you expect in Mexican food - not a hint of cilantro anywhere. I won't trash the place, but I wouldn't recommend it and I won't be back, either. read more

Food was ok. Service was mediocre at best. In their defense they were busy, but it took 20 mins to get our drinks, and another 20 before the took our meal order. I ordered some grilled jalapeños and they brought me cold canned ones. They don't know how to make a non-triple sec margarita. The guac wasn't what I like, too creamy. Presentation was decent, but underwhelmed overall. I've yet to find a good Mexican restaurant in this part of NY. read more

Love this place...authentic mexican food...Israel Campos is a gem...such a wonderful owner and the entire Campos family (chef Mario, Rudy and Julio) and staff (Manon, Holly, Katie and Giovanni) makes the dinner experience a special one. From the Salsa..to the Nachos, to the gaucamole, enchiladas, burritos, salmon, zesty wings, chicken mexicana, rice and beans..yum...oh and the enchilada sauce #10 that burritos are smothered in is unreal ...it's like candy. Decided to bring my wife here for her birthday on 09/21 based on the great yelp reviews. From the moment we stepped inside, it was like we had arrived at a long awaited family reunion. The hospitality and attentiveness was like no other place we have ever experienced. My wife had the carne asada with shrimp alajillo. It was awesome. Beef was tender, moist and flavorful. Shrimp were cooked to perfection. As for the rice and refried beans, well, you really shouldn't screw that up. Her mango margarita was well balanced. I had a plate which contained one chile relleno, one beef taco and one cheese enchilada. The food was very good. Properly seasoned and not smothered in cheese. My house margarita was what I expected, no complaints. Although the place was not crowded during our visit, we were really taken aback by the constant checking of our table. Finally!! . . a family owned restaurant that gets it! The owners here understand what customer service is all about. Awesome food! It was very well prepared. I had the lamb chops with a mushroom sauce they were excellent. Started out with a house salad wow it was so good. The garlic soup also, very good very large portion more than I expected as an appetizer. The waiter knew exactly how everything would be prepared. Besides an appetizer they give salsa and chips. Definitely will recommend this restaurant (and already have) to anyone who likes good Mexican/latin food. I asked for an order of plantanos even though they were not on the menu they made a side dish up for me. read more

Everytime I visit my parents in Orange County NY we make sure to hit up this amazing gem in Sugarloaf. Whether its mole enchiladas, the Salmon special, the guac or anything else, every bite is fantastic. The staff and owners could not be nicer or more accommodating. They have a personal relationship with seemingly everyone at every table and have smiles on their faces all night. The kindness of everyone there combined with how delicious the food is makes this one of my favorite restaurants regardless of geography. read more

Finally got to experience Cancun Inn; it was even better than expected! It's decorated tastefully and feels very inviting. I started by ordering white sangria, but our waiter (who was also the owner) said the red is better! So I got red sangria - delicious! I had the chef's special shrimp in their signature garlic sauce with rice and fresh vegetables. The right amount of subtle heat in the plump fresh big shrimp was perfectly complemented by a sweetness in the vegetables. My companion had chicken baked with rice and vegetables and loved it. I meant to take a picture when the food arrived, but it looked and smelled so good we dove right in; sorry about the partial food pics. At the end of the meal there was not a morsel left. Finished with a light, smooth dark chocolate cake which was amazing. The owner was so friendly and sweet I felt like hugging him goodbye when I left. I will definitely be back! read more

Liked this place. Skip the house special Shrimp appetizer. Quality of shrimp was below average. The taco, chili relleno, and enchilada dish with the rice and beans was excellent. Just had lunch here today and had the BEST time ever. Not only did Israel open his restaurant an hour before he planned to to accommodate us, we had an absolutely fantastic time while we were there. Israel and his wife and brother (shout out to my BFF and bro Julio) were so friendly and the food was delicious. Definitely get the sangria when you go - you will not regret it. I stopped in here after attending the Sugar Loaf Mayfest and I'm glad I did. I ordered the fish tacos and they were delicious! My sister had the catfish and that was delicious as well! The salad was actually really good and I don't just think that because of the 2 beers I had that the waiter brought promptly! We were checked on many times and made conversation with 4 different staff members AND the owner who was also walking around. These were literally some of the most friendly waitstaff I've ever experienced. This food was good and the staff and ambience were good too. read more

However, the margaritas literally tasted like water and the food was average. Ordered a fajita and it didn't even come out in a sizzling skillet. I would have 100% come back just because of the service, but there are many other Mexican restaurants in the area with much better food. read more

Saw the reviews on Yelp for this place not far from home. Not your typical Mexican. It's kicked up a notch. Extensive menu with Spanish flair. We both had the salmon filet special, served with pineapple habanero chili sauce. It came with a salad and we chose house dressing. Some sort of tequila lime balsamic dressing. Very good, with a little kick. Everything is made from scratch and it was great to easily trade out the rice or beans for fresh veggies. We will be back to try the typical Mexican food. Service was good too. They were busy for a Sunday evening, which tells you something when the restaurant down the street had an empty parking lot. Thanks Yelp! read more

Cancunn Inn is the best Mexican restaurant in New York, by far! I am always greeted with warm smiles and the service is impecable! Best Sangria I've ever had and their homemade guacamole is to die for, melts in my mouth every time! They have this amazing dish called Carne Asada with Camarones Ajilo - it's steak and shrimp, comes with a chesse enchilada and rice & beans. Talk about FLAVOR! I also love their seafood enchiladas - one of my favorites! They have this amazing decadent fried icecream that will warm your heart and leave you extra satisfied! Oh and don't leave without having their signature dessert shot, "mule kick" - amaretto and tequila...yummmmm! The atmosphere is colorful, very clean and well kept. I can't wait to go back! read more
