Recently sampled the food and service at Cancun Restaurant at Foothills Mall. Once seated, it took quite a while before our server approached. He took our drink order which took so long, we considered leaving. He returned after his break and took our food order. Surprise, it only took 2 minutes to cook, plate, and deliver our lunch! I found it strange that drinks took longer. My order which was described nicely in the menu turned out to be some seasoned ground beef, a tortilla, rice and beans, that's it. I had to take garnish from my wife's plate to put mine together. It also lacked taste. My wife's meal looked better but also was found lacking. I took half of my food home thinking I could add to it, however as we both experienced upset stomachs shortly after eating, I threw my leftovers out. Toco Bell is a better option. read more

BEST service, it's been consistently good for a decade now! Tonight we had Juan, and he made the experience so enjoyable. Not only did he get our orders out quickly and correctly, but he was very kind and attentive. He made jokes and was very kind, but never hovered or kept us for longer than 10-20 seconds. The food itself is great, especially to be in the mall, and it's very convenient since we go to the amc connected to it all the time and love getting dinner before or after our movie. The worst service I have ever experienced. Waiter tried correcting us when ordering our food then tried telling us we ordered something we did not. The waiter then continued to give me my wrong drink when I only ordered water. After eating it took over 10 minutes to get our check after the waiter had been by our table three times and waited on the table beside us while chatting with them for minutes. Really good Mexican food in an unexpected place! They have A LOT of options on their menu. The margarita ( both the regular and the one with the corona) had good taste, not watered down at all so be careful with the alcohol ;)! I had the California burrito and it was huge! I ordered carnitas which arrived burnt and dried out like boot leather. When I asked the waiter about getting another order he looked at me in disgust and said, "That is how we make them." and he turned his back and walked off. Besides crappy food the attitude really ticked me off. I called over to another waiter who simply turned away as well. I asked for my check which was semi tossed onto the table. I was lucky to have enough cash to cover the bill and left a whopping 12-cent tip which was 12-cents too much. After leaving the restaurant I told everyone going towards the restaurant to be forewarned and go elsewhere. The only safe place to get Mexican if you are allergy restricted. They make their salsa fresh with fresh garlic. We are never disappointed. Service can be hit or miss but otherwise it's very good. read more

We had a really disappointing experience here last night. Cancun used to be one of Maryville's best Mexican spots but sadly they have fallen down to one of my least favorites. When you first walk in, the smell of cheap Fabuloso cleaner nearly knocks you down. It's so strong and overpowering. It guess it's good they keep the place clean but man that smells is hard to ignore. I've noticed this smell the last several times I've dined here Yesterday my friend, her toddler and myself arrived around 330pm and was blandly askes by the hostess how many in our party, with no greeting, and told it would be a 5 minute wait even though we could see tons of tables open. Chips and salsa were quickly brought to our table. The salsa was terrible. It tasted like tomato sauce with cilantro and onion added to it with no other seasonings. Our waiter arrives next and asked what we wanted to drink, again no greeting/welcome. It took a while for our food to arrive. We both ordered dishes that claimed to be "sizzling" according to the menu. She ordered fajitas and I tried the steak Monterrey. When they arrived they weren't sizzling. They were hot but when you get fajitas you expect that wonderful aroma and steam/sizzle. Our main dishes were good and comproable to other Mexican restaurants in the area. During our meal our server never checked on us, brought us refills and was just not friendly. Not rude, but didn't do anything to make us feel welcome or act as if he enjoyed his job. While the food is decent, the terrible smell of the cleaning supplies combined with the awful customer service it will be quite a while before I visit Cancun again. read more

Anyway, there were no extra napkins and when I told the waiter this, he pointed at the empty napkin holder then came back with a full on and plopped down on the table. They serve raw cooking onions ( California Burrito) instead of sweet. I tried to explain to the owner cooking onions are supposed to be cooked. Sweet onions are eaten raw, but they continue because it's cheaper. They play loud pop music. Be better to play traditional Mexican music in my opinion. Also the place smells of chemicals. read more

Oh my! Where do I start! This place is dark and gloomy, and just feels dingy. I hate dingy places. My grandmother said this place was good and she picked for lunch so I was trying to be a good sport. I asked for extra lemons with our drink and immediately saw a dead nat on them. I pointed it out to our server who was very embarrassed, apologized and got us a new bowl BUT left the old bowl with the nat still sitting on our table. I let it go. Once our food arrived, an army of nats declared war. We were literally smacking at the air through our entire meal. Back to the second bowl of lemons, I look down and this one has a spider on it. I just let it go again, didn't want to embarrass my grandmother. We finish our meals and the server refilled my drink. When he sat my cup down, it was turned around and I notice a huge lipstick mark on the cup. I was not wearing lip stick and I was using a straw so you make your own assumption. Cancun is a very solid choice to help satisfy the craving for Mexican food. I've been eating here about 5 years now and the food is consistently good. The service is on par with many of the restaurants I've eaten at in central Mexico, meaning they do periodically check to see if you need anything but are not at your table every 5 minutes like what most Americans come to expect at sit down restaurants. This is partly due to the fact that Cancun gives you humongous glasses for your beverages and they want you to enjoy your meal. The portion sizes are more than ample and you'll more often see people leaving with extras than actually finishing the entire plate. Their lunch specials are served 7 days of the week and range from $5-10. I always opt for the steak Monterrey, an epic sized ribeye served with a bed of caramelized onions and a house made queso drizzled on top. It's the best value on the menu quite honestly as the steak alone is enormous and it's served along side tortillas, rice, beans, pico, sour cream, and guacamole. Overall, Cancun is my go to place more often than not if I want a good Mexican meal. The menu is varied and offers standard Mexican fare as well as some Veracruzano seafood dishes that are delicious for an extra cost. Their salsa is very herbacious, so if you are not a fan of cilantro, you might want to skip on the salsa entirely. My 4 stars instead of 5 comes from one small issue: the booths. There is ample seating but most of the booths are very worn down and the cushioning can be pretty uncomfortable depending on where you are seated. The refried beans has always been one of my favorite things but this time they were absolutely terrible, it tasted like water from a water hose, the rice had a chemical taste,and the tacos were ok at best. Of course, none of us wanted to eat our meals after that, but for some reason they still felt it necessary to charge us half price... or so they said. There was some weird math happening there to make two adult meals, one kids meal, and a cheese dip add up to the $60 it would have had to have been to be $30 at half off. The manager finally settled on $20, but honestly: you don't charge for food that had a roach in it. Period. If they'd been apologetic and let us go, I might not even be posting this. Nice size portions for the money. I had the Tamale and they covered it in ground beef. I thought that was a little odd. The beef looked like it was scraped off the bottom of the pan! It was burnt. What really ticked me off was that I was charged $1.25 for two extra SMALL tortillas to go with my fajitas. They only give you two for the whole meal to begin with. Really?!
