We came in at 8:20 (they close at 9 on Mondays) and even though we were close to closing time they didn't make us feel rushed but did let us know when the kitchen started shutting down. We had steak fajitas, chicken soup and Chile Colorado and everything was delicious! We also ordered cheese dip which was good but a little watery. The chicken soup we would recommend adding cilantro (my daughter speaking here) and a lime or two. She says otherwise it was bland. When I work in Maryville this is my go to place for lunch. Prices are reasonable and in line with other Mexican restaurants. The food comes out steaming hot every time. They bake the dishes with the cheese on it so it has a little caramelization to it. It's superb. It tends to be busy on Monday and. Friday but through the week it isnt as much. To me this is a five star experience for lunch. I cannot comment on the drinks or dinner but I would say they are excellent as well. read more

Awesome!!! Super friendly, delish food. Good drinks. I've been there 3 times. Yesterday, I tried their chicken soup. Yum to the OOO!! Lovely, light chicken broth, peppers, onions, and a huge hunk of chicken. I ate all the brought, brought home the chicken to make my own soup!! The chicken was so tender!! Hubs had beef enchilada and a tamale. Honestly, this is the closest thing you will get to Tex Mex. We live in Crossville, and there is a Casa Grande that has delicious chicken soup. It was... decent. I was in the area to hike the National Park and was looking for some food late on a Friday night. There weren't many options near my hotel unless I drove into Knoxville proper, so I headed over for some Mexican comfort food. The entrance was a bit chaotic with folks leaving, folks paying and me looking like a bump on a log having no idea what to do. Do I seat myself? Does someone come get me? There was no real indication of what do to. Someone finally took pity on me and led me to a table. There seemed to be a bit of a communication issue as I was ordering and the server kept pointing to a dish I didn't want even though I was pointing to exactly what I was asking for. After a bit my food arrived. I have never seen a quesadilla like this in my life, no matter what city or what country I have ordered one in. The tortilla part was buried under watery white queso and a mound of lettuce. I had to try to use my utensils to shove the queso off and get to the actual food portion, which was now stuck to the plate. This was definitely not the grilled, crunchy, stretchy cheese finger food I'm used to. The taste was just okay. If I was a local, I'm sure I'd be on the hunt for a better Mexican place. read more

We were looking for a place for dinner on a Monday night. Very few places are open in this area so we stumbled upon these lovely people who decided to be open! We were sat right away and the waitress was super nice and friendly. The restaurant is old and dark so atmosphere is not the best. I was sure what I wanted so I went with the cheese quesadilla. She asked if I wanted lettuce and I said sure. When it came out - it was not wait I expected. It was queso cheese and a tortilla dreaded in the soupy cheese. It tasted okay but I honestly was not a fan of it. I'd pass on this place and make a quesadilla at home if I lived in this area. Let's start with the salsa, queso and chips. The queso was a little runny and somewhat bland. Chips were very fresh/warm and I loved the smokiness of the salsa. Not too spicy, just right. I had the combo fajita. Plenty of chicken, onions and peppers with a little beef and very little shrimp. That was disappointing. Just three little shrimp and a few pieces of beef. Once seated, they came right over and served us. No waiting. I think they had plenty of staff to take care of everyone. The place looks like a typical Mexican restaurant. Walking in, hector the man was here welcoming everyone inside...such a treat. Very sweet man indeed. He knows how to keep his business running. We have been coming in here since 1996 and we always peek inside the kitchen window from our seat to always find the same, lunch only, cook back in the kitchen preparing our meals. We stopped coming in at dinner time because the staff isn't the same and Hector always works lunchtime, when you know it's going to be good. The salsa here is so addicting. It's good. Got a kick to it. I always, always order the chicken chimichanga. It's a flour tortilla shell with shredded chicken inside with a few other secret ingredients with a brown sauce aka mole sauce, with some melted cheese on top. It's delicious. If your undecided when you come into order, order the chicken chimi. You won't regret it. You'll be addicted like I am. Come say hi to Hector at lunchtime. It's when it's the best. read more

This place has the best chicken fajitas I've ever had! We came here with a big party- about 8. And they brought us each a bowl of salsa which I really appreciated. The chips came out warm and crispy. The salsa was pretty spicy but still good. We ordered the chicken fajitas. It came with rice, beans, lettuce, guacamole, and sour cream, all on one big plate. These were absolutely amazing!! The chicken was juicy and the vegetables were cooked perfectly. The onion was perfectly sweet and caramelIzed. It was seasoned in a sauce that was so delicious. It was a big portion but I ate so much because it was just that good. The beans were seasoned well. The only complaint I have is that the rice wasn't too great and I wish they gave more guacamole but rather than that, 100% recommended coming here. Been here twice. Im from CA (i know i suck) and i know mexican food better than anyone in Maryville and this place is pretty good. The beans are my favorite as they have a distinct lard taste to them which means they are made correctly. I got the chimichanga lunch special. Comes with machaca shredded beef inside. Well seasoned good beef. Their purveyor i believe is US Foods so not sysco garbage. The only thing i didnt like was the chimichanga was super small. Like a childs portion. But the beans and rice and guac with free chips and salsa made up for it i guess. Pro tip: if you want hot sauce you need to ask for the "salsa muy picosa" they dont give it to just anybody. Its a vinegar based very habanero sauce very hot. You gringos will cry. read more

Our go-to Mexican restaurant! While there are a few good Mexican options in Maryville, Los Amigos is our favorite. I may be a bit biased, since they were my and my now-husbands first date spot, but I digress. The best queso and chips, I swear, live here. I love queso dip in general, but the consistency is the biggest factor for me. This dip is the perfect balance of thick but not overly so, and lots of flavor! After my fair share of bland cheese dips elsewhere, I can always count on Los to make it perfectly. One of my favorite things about Los though is the service! Family owned, and Hector is very kind and personable. All the wait staff are efficient and attentive, I've never had my food come out so fast at a sit down restaurant. I thought it was luck the first time, now I know to expect it! I always get the shredded chicken quesadilla (it's become my comfort food), but my husband had tried almost everything on their menu at this point and swears it's the best arroz con pollo he's had. Unsalted chips, cold salsa out of a can. Quesadilla was terrible - an old family recipe, perhaps - because it was not like any quesadilla I have ever encountered. It was an unfilled tortilla topped with meat, another tortilla, then buried under some white watery sauce, then lettuce and tomato. It was not grilled but a gummy mess. Disappointing. My nephew Colin and I have been coming here for over 2 years and nobody here has disappointed us in any way. For starters the salsa is some of the best I ever had. It is not from a can but homemade as are all there dishes. My nephew loves the Carnitas and I usually get the chicken enchilada and a cheese relleno. If you want a Quesadilla go to Taco Bell! This is not your place. They make authentic Mexican dishes from scratch. The customer service is excellent consistently and Hector goes out of his way to Thank you. Just ate here tonight with my husband and two kids. Food was amazing and service was great! The place was packed and still had exceptional service. Our waiter was so nice and attentive. I cannot believe how good it was. The salsa is so good as it reminds me of a really good old school picante sauce. We also asked for homemade house hot sauce and everything on my face was burning and my nose was running as it was so good! I love it spicy! The husband had the Mexicano Ahi and it was delicious. I had the shrimp fajita flamdeas ( I know I spelled it wrong) and they were covered in melty cheese goodness. Kids had a cheese quesadilla and beef taco with rice. First time here for lunch. The service is outstanding! The food, so-so. You sit where you want. Our server came over immediately with chips and salsa, and took our drink order. My house Margarita was decent. The food took awhile, as it was a very busy lunch hour. However, our sever brought us more chips and salsa without having to ask. My wife had the two chicken enchiladas with rice. I hade the beef and enchilada lunch special with rice. The sauce is good, but the beef was completely tasteless, as if they cooked it without a single spice (salt and pepper included). However, my wife's chicken was sauced and seasoned.
