We booked the cottage for my man's birthday because I wanted to do something special for him, and it turned out to be the perfect choice. From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed. The lady who assisted us was incredibly kind and helpful, making sure we had everything we needed. Her warm hospitality truly made our stay even more special. The cottage was cozy, romantic, and just what we were hoping for. We especially loved the jetted tub, it was so relaxing and exactly what we needed. The scenery around the property was beautiful and peaceful, creating the perfect atmosphere for a birthday getaway. The thoughtful touches meant so much to us, the wine bottle and the birthday wishes were such a nice surprise. We also really enjoyed the breakfast; it was delicious and a great way to start the morning. Overall, we had an amazing night. It was much needed, and we're so glad we chose to celebrate there. Absolutely stunning hotel & such a cute place. Staff was incredibly friendly & lovely which made the stay even greater. My only complaint is the dust behind the bed, on the back bed curtain & on the bottom bed lays under the top mattress. Additionally the mattress needs to be replaced asap. It's not good for people with even slightly bad backs. I have a back issue & my husband has an even worse back. He ended up sleeping on the small couch instead. But, I still find this room and hotel to be worth it regardless of that. It's precious. & hopefully they just dust & replace the bed soon :) read more

Obsessed with candlelight inn! It was the perfect V-Day weekend stay. The moment you arrive you are greeted with a glass of wine and a cheeseboard. They also provide some water to take to your room that was desperately needed after all the wine we had that day. The property is beautiful and so relaxing. If you love being in the water don't let the cooler month deter you, I believe the pool is heated! Amazing!!!!!!! I wish I could rate the bed and breakfast more than 5 stars. It was the absolute best stay I've ever had. Complimentary wine at your arrival. Free cookies, brownies, cheese plates, water, hot coco, tea, and espresso all day! Mimosas during breakfast too! The staff were so friendly and caring. I miss them already! The jacuzzi tub in our room was AMAZING. It was the best that we could keep the chimney on and stay warm once leaving the tub. We had robes too! Breakfast every morning was so good. The area is also very nice! 5-7 mins away from downtown... 20-30mins from Calistoga wineries. I miss it here!! I will definitely be back!!! We had high hopes, unfortunately they were not met. I was hesitant to write such a review because it seems they are struggling with upkeep and standards ( financial reasons?), and I don't want them to lose future business. Even so, I feel this review is needed perhaps as a "wake up call" to seriously improve. The Good: Storybook inn, beautiful exterior, ample parking, gorgeous trees in front... right out of a "Fairytale book." Checked in on Friday evening and were greeted by two wonderful ladies, given two glasses of wine upon arrival and checked in. The fireplace was lit and the living was cozy with candlelight and Christmas decorations. We also met "Baby Girl," the beautiful cat that lives around the inn. The bed, pillows and sheets were comfy. There were bathrobes provided but no slippers. The breakfasts were fine: a fruit cup, croissant with jam and an egg dish. There are cheese plates in the refrigerator, brownies and cookies in the living room for snacking. Good coffee and tea are also available, outside of breakfast time, by using the Nespresso machine. The Bad: We had reserved the "Upper Champagne Room," and proceeded upstairs. Upon entry and turning on the lights, I immediately noticed to my horror many cobwebs on the wall directly over the headboard of the bed. Not good, not good at all. I told my husband and he grabbed some tissue and pulled them down. In retrospect, I should have informed the innkeepers, but I didn't want to make a fuss (I know, I know). The room itself was dark with dim lights unless you turned on the high-beam like lights on the ceiling fan, not very romantic. The room seemed sad, the carpet dirty with ground in dirt, and the curtains in poor condition and hanging askew. The Bathroom: I'm extremely picky about bathroom cleanliness and this was not up to standards of such an Inn. There was hair stuck where the tile met the carpet, the door jambs were dirty from people repeatedly soiling them, the sink was far from pristine, and while I was taking a shower, the handle fell off. Fell off...what the????? I managed to put it back on but a bunch of crud came out of the "socket." Moving on: Did I mention I'm diligent about cleanliness? Well, the toilet was ok, BUT the baseboards around the toilet were splashed with something red which for the love of all that is good and holy, I'm hoping was from WINE and nothing else. Even after the cleaning person came to change out towels, the bathroom was still dirty, sink not scrubbed, red stuff still around the baseboards. The empty tissue box wasn't replaced, no new soap. Nope just nope. We had booked three nights but left early because the room and bathroom just were not up to standard. I really believe this Inn is special and want the historic home to be preserved. However, the Inn needs serious attention to detail and standards to keep the type of clientele they expect. In sum, discerning guests notice details and expect a high standard that lives up to the expectations created online and by reputation. Very disappointed with my experience at Candlelight Inn. I had to cancel my reservation due to a genuine emergency, and despite explaining the situation and having my booking platform reach out to them, the staff refused to offer any flexibility or compassion. They denied my request without empathy or even a reasonable explanation. I visit Napa frequently and was looking forward to staying here, but after this experience, I will never return--and I'll be telling friends and family to avoid this place as well. Hospitality should be about more than just rigid policies; it should include basic decency and understanding, especially in unforeseen situations. Plenty of other options in Napa will actually care about their guests. I recommend staying elsewhere. read more

We picked this place based on the great reviews but were very disappointed. We stayed in one of the first floor rooms with direct access to the pool, which was nice, but it had a strong moldy odor, as well as the bathroom, and the furniture was in pretty bad condition and dirty. The room was big but the bathroom tiny - my boyfriend is 6'4 and could barely move inside the shower, which by the way, was dirty and full of mold. The bathtub in the room was also big, but not all of the jets worked properly, plus if you want bubbles you need to bring them yourself as they were not provided by the inn. Our room had a fireplace that was constantly going on and off - we ended up not using it at all. The pool, which is a nice size, is heated and I was really looking forward to using it, however the temperature wasn't warm enough now that the afternoons are cooler. Breakfast on the first day was just ok, they actually served us half frozen store bought orange juice, but way nicer on the second day. We ended up having to rebook our flight due to a cancelation, so we had to leave the inn super early and missed our third breakfast. In any case, I wouldn't call their food "gourmet". Regarding their customer service, it was ok too. We let Sam know that we were having issues getting tour reservations and all she did was to tell us to call a winery that they work with and let them know we were staying there, but she never offered to help us, nor recommended anything else. The inn is in a nice residential area, but not at all walking distance to anywhere. Overall, we had a good time but paid almost $1,800 for three nights and felt like we could have done way better. This inn is beautiful, with several rooms located inside a house that was built around the 1930s. The room we had was spacious, complete with the largest jacuzzi tub I have ever seen, a good sized bathroom, gas fireplace (can use a switch to activate it), elegant furniture, and tv. We also had a small outdoor patio area that we could use for tea or snacks or just to chill or whatever, but it was way too cold for me to enjoy. I had breakfast one of the 3 days I stayed here due to our itinerary packed full of wine and wine tastings. The breakfast was spot on and delicious. First course was a fruit cup of blueberries and strawberries. Second course was a delightful and perfectly textured blueberry scone. Third course was a cheese and spinach frittata, which was absolutely perfect in taste, texture, and seasoning. I loved all the courses, but this the most. The breakfast was not too heavy, and also came with your choice of orange juice, tea, or coffee. So if you go, you must try the breakfast. It was available from 8-9:30. The reasons I have taken away a star is because the website said they offered complimentary wine and cheese. We were looking forward to chillin' in our room and using the jacuzzi with the "free wine and cheese" they offered (hey, I like to get my money's worth), but they said they were out of wine and didn't offer any further explanation. We were there for 3 nights and wine was never placed in the fridge. Also, they had small cheese platters and fruit place on small plastic plates and covered with plastic wrap in the dining room fridge that we could use. These were fun to grab and snack on, but they ran out on the last night of our trip. Plus, they were nice and offered a complimentary plate of brownies and cookies in the living room we could grab and bring back to our room, but they ran out of those by our last night and didn't replace it. We payed A LOT of money to stay here and it would have been nice if they kept up on these small little things we had hoped or enjoyed to use throughout the visit. Lastly, you have to tell them you want your room cleaned. Gone are the days when you leave and come back to a clean room. We just didn't feel like tracking someone down to tell them we wanted our room cleaned. Oh yeah, and you're given an actual key to the front door of your house and room (and not a card or something). I was terrified of losing that key because I had no idea how much they were going to charge if I lost it. Luckily, I never lost the key, whew... All in all, you'll enjoy your stay here and the 3 course breakfast is super delicious, but be aware that the little things that have the potential to make this truly a 5 star experience may or may not be available during your stay. read more

I have been coming here every year over the past 6 years. However I haven't been here in three years. This place is not the same since a new company took over, the carpet in my room was dirty, and musty smelling. There was no window to open. Also they use to bring breakfast to the room and now you have to go into the dining room to be served. There was a phone in the lobby to call for assistance but I had to wait over 1/2 hour to have someone to let me back into my room due to having locked myself out. The breakfast was just ok. I am a major fan of little inns that looks right out of a story book or reminds you of older times. In a world when everyone is looking for modern everything, I for one enjoy the simpler and quaint set ups. The Candlelight Inn was just that. Location : Right next to downtown Napa, the location couldn't get any better. You can carry your food back to your rooms or stay late since the downtown is just a few mins drive. Accommodation : I believe this was a house converted into an inn. The house looks very much like a fairytale cottage with large lawn in the front and a pool at its back. We couldn't take a dip in the pool given that it a very chilly day. But we did sit out in our balcony overlooking the pool with a glass of wine and a plate of cheese which the Inn served as complimentary with the room. We were in the Majestic room that had a jacuzzi in the room. The furnitures were antique and so was the fireplace. Loved the entire ambience in the room. Food : The common fridge near the kitchen always has cheese plates stocked up. There were also a few backed goodies spread that was on display next to it. You are offered a glass of wine as soon as you enter. The Inn only serves breakfast and no other meals. You can bring your food from outside if you'd like. You will have to inform the staff beforehand if you prefer to have your breakfast in the room or out in the dining room, the previous day. The breakfast was a yummy three course meal that leaves you feeling stuffed. Staff : A very lovely old lady helped us with a check-in and she was sweet enough to bump us up to the Majestic Room when she learnt that we were celebrating my husband's birthday. Candlelight Inn in Napa was an experience. First time we've stayed at an Inn referred by a co-work (Gigi L.). I was so happy to get a weekend room 2 months out during Harvest season. A bit pricey but we needed a quick weekend getaway. Check in was smooth, innkeeper was attentive. Gave us a tour gave us the run down, showed us our room (we booked the majestic suite) hot tub in room, back door with porch where we can eat the 3 course breakfast in the morning. Nice little neighborhood cat by the pool area. Small individuality rapped charcuterie plates in fridge, ziplock bags of ice and a good pour of wine from the innkeeper whenever you request. Food was nice , and definitely need after the night out in downtown Napa which happened to have some outdoor social distances street party/gathering. WOW! WOW! WOW! The hospitality at Candlelight Inn was beyond belief. Maria went out of her way in the weeks leading up to our group trip to help us plan out our itinerary. Maria set up private winery tours, gave us ideas of things to do, suggested restaurants, booked reservations, ordered us a birthday cake, and constantly checked in on us to see how she could enhance our experience. This will always be a memorable trip for all of us. In my opinion, the Candlelight Inn deserves 10 stars! The location was unique in that the B&B is nestled in a neighborhood. Where to begin! The pictures already posted online must have been from years ago when this place was in their prime. Quaint B&B with lots of potential but failed to meet expectations. They said they have a heated pool, but it was so dirty, I was not willing to touch the water. The flowers inside the house were dead the whole time were there and were not changed. Our room was super dim lighting. Without opening the shades, it was hard to see. The toilet bowl still had streaks of red running down from the bowl...obviously from previous tenant (perhapse enjoying too much wine) but definitely not something I should have seen. There was hardly any room for toiletries. The bathroom could only accommodate one person and you could not get in and out of the shower without hitting the toilet with the red streaks. Sleeping in was not an option as the noise from other guests who wake up early to shower and walk around could be heard. On a positive note, the breakfast was very good. read more

This is a pretty cute place. Good location for visiting wineries and 15 minutes to Yountville. People who work here were very friendly and our room looked clean and put together well. We stayed in the Lady Heather room, overall it was quaint and the balcony was a nice for relaxing at night and eating our breakfast in the morning. They had water, and snack plates in the kitchen as well which is a nice touch. Now the not so nice. The property was supposed to have a heated pool open when we were there. It was a 95 degree day when we were there and the pool felt cold (not heated) and it was very dirty. Another review below said the same thing regarding the pool being dirty. This was an amenity I was looking forward to using and could not. Additionally I could hear people next door through the wall which was annoying, and the air conditioner is right next to the bed and is very loud with a large draft which woke me up multiple times a night. I did write to them with my complaints and they said they are going through management changes (which is not my problem). They also sent me the bill again which I already paid which I thought was rude. Maybe they do need new management after all! I know many people also rave about the breakfast here, but I didn't like it. The French toast was kinda soggy and sour and the fruit mushy. The frittata was OK. My significant other did enjoy his breakfast though, so maybe it is a matter of taste. In fact, I cannot name 1 negative about the place or our experience. I have to admit, on the drive to the location I was getting a little nervous but that ended as soon as we arrived. The place was quaint, quiet and relaxing. We had the Garden View Room and it was nice. We took full advantage of the amenities of the Inn and room - especially the full-sized jet spa bathtub. Our room also had a nice porch facing the pool area that was nice. I have to say that they go above and beyond for breakfast. I can't say the food was spectacular (to each their own) but the effort behind it was. In addition, they keep the refrigerator stocked with water, soda and plates of salami and cheese. I had a couple that hit the spot for me. The management/ownership was very nice and accommodating. I swear the guy managing the place during our stay was a double for John Malkovich the actor. My husband and I stayed in the creekside cottage last week for our honeymoon. We had a such an amazing few days in Napa and staying here was definitely part of it. The Inn is tucked away, and is extremely peaceful all day. The surroundings are very green and cute. I will definitely be recommending this BnB to anyone who wants to venture to Napa! Especially because the breakfast was so delicious!! It is three courses, with a pastry and fruit to start and then an egg dish. And it comes with an entire carafe of coffee, which is perfect for me. The furniture is dated, the paint is peeling, there are stains on the curtains (looks like blood), and the hotel does not live up to its promises on its website. Website says it offers wine and other drinks throughout the day. Wine was never offered at all. Water was only available through a dispenser, which was empty when we needed water before bed. Hosts are not around after check in for needs such as this. "Three course" breakfast was really a small cup of slice oranges, followed by a scone, followed by a thin scrambled egg top with cheese. We just celebrated our 19th wedding anniversary by staying at Candlelight Inn and I wish we could have stayed longer than a weekend. Not only is this B&B beautiful and peaceful, the staff are extremely warm and friendly. My husband and I stayed at Candlelight several years ago however Sam remembered us when we checked in. We were surprised! It speaks to him and how thoughtful he is and really getting to know each of his guests. We were greeted with champagne to celebrate our anniversary and were given tips for things to do in Napa. When we went to our room, we realized it was the exact room we stayed in before which was total coincidence but quite special. We stayed in the Majestic room which has a large jacuzzi tub in the room and fireplace. The room leads out to small patio where you see the pool and lounge chairs. The bed is extremely comfortable. The B&B offers wine and cheese in the evening which is an added bonus. In the morning we went to the breakfast area which is delightful. We were served coffee, tea, and orange juice to start. We asked for hot water with lemon so Scott went outside and picked Meyer lemons from the tree! Talk about amazing service. We were served poached pear that was perfectly seasoned. It was followed by a sticky bun that was perfection. I could have eaten five of those. After that, we had a mushroom and tomato frittata. It was incredible! Sam came over and talked with us and the other guests and asked about out evening and day plans. My husband and I had a hard time checking out. We are already talking about coming back in the summer so we can enjoy the pool. This place is a gem. read more

This is the BEST bed and breakfast I've ever stayed at and I've been to a lot of them. My husband and I stayed here for an anniversary/weekend getaway and we stayed at the Lower Champagne room. It was small but quaint and comfortable. When we arrived there were 2 small Mumm champagne bottles and a card that said happy anniversary. There were chocolates in the room, as well. The breakfasts were sooooooo good!!!!!!!! 3 course meals for 2 days, WOW! On the first day : first course - poached pear with yogurt (or sour cream); 2nd course - some kind of pastry; and 3rd course - savory crepe. On the second day we had: first course - oranges & grapefruit; 2nd course - cinnamon banana pancakes; and 3rd course - Egg puff (which is their name for quiche, I guess). I wish I could eat there everyday! I love how they have a lot of tables like in a restaurant, unlike the other B&B's I've stayed at. At other B&B's they have one long table for everyone to eat and it's awkward sometimes. At Candlelight, you have a choice where to sit. I like how they have food available in their fridge after the breakfast. There's a plate of ham and cheese, oh and the chocolate cake is delicious! They have FREE wine tasting with cheese and fruit at night, and you can get to know the people who are staying at the Inn. Or, you can be a snob like me and my husband and hang out in the living room. Others stayed outside in the garden. They also have a clean pool outside with the perfect temperature. Long before physically arriving, I noticed the friendliness and attentiveness of the staff as we prepared for this trip. However, upon our arrival, we found that the Inn wildly exceeded our expectations. So, where to begin? The Inn is tucked away at the end of a residential neighborhood. Once you are there, though, you feel secluded and far away thanks to the tall trees, quiet location, and the natural beauty of the area. The Inn itself has a beautiful exterior design and there is a heated pool and gazebo behind the Inn for guests to use. The interior and the rooms are meticulously maintained and furnished with a very classy feel to the place. Each room has its own character and we were very partial to the nautically-themed Upper Champagne Room. We noticed chocolates left in the room for us upon arrival. Also, wine, coffee, tea, and snacks are always available. The provided breakfast is a three-course meal with fruit, an egg dish, and a pancake (or similar) dish. Simply yum! Scott and the staff should be commended for their service and attention to detail for all aspects of the Inn. We will be returning next year! read more

2020 has been kicking our butt. My husband and I both work in healthcare and needless to say, we have been long overdue for a weekend getaway! With limited childcare options, the owners were so kind to allow us to stay one night instead of two. I wish we could have stayed for the week! The property is gorgeous and charming--everything you would imagine a Candlelight Inn would be. We had a couples massage outside. The therapists were amazing! I'd have the say the highlight was definitely the breakfast. Those pancakes were to die for! I stole one of my husband's because I couldn't get enough (what his is mine, lol!) We just completed a 12 couple event in Napa for 3 nights and how lucky we were to have found the Candlelight Inn. We had 11 of the 12 couples stay here and it was absolutely magical. We were celebrating a 45 year reunion and the staff, Marty, Briana & Ramir were extremely welcoming, warm and accommodating. Everyone loved their room accommodations and the king bed in the room I had ranks as one of the best beds I've ever slept on. The morning breakfasts were very gourmet. This was our 2nd stay at the Inn over the past 4 years. The location is very quiet at the end of a dead end street. Beautiful gardens. Rooms are very dark. Our 1st stay was in an upstairs room and this time in a ground level room. We could hear the sound of the jacuzzi in the room above us which sounded like a jet engine. Also the noisy TV as well. The biggest disappointment was the polyester sheets on the bed. When combined with the foam mattress topper it made it very hot and sweaty night of sleep. I would recommend that the owner invest in some high quality cotton sheets. Also some plush bath towels. Breakfast was excellent and staff was friendly. Overall would not recommend a stay and look elsewhere considering the price. read more

What a charming Bed & Breakfast! I surprised my wife with this getaway for her birthday, and we were absolutely delighted with our stay. First, the staff. I cannot say enough about the friendliness of the staff. Sam and Scott, you guys help run a great place. Everyone was just so cheerful, and very helpful! We got a great recommendation for a Steakhouse in downtown Napa. The rooms are so quaint. Our huge room had a four-poster canopy bed and a large jetted tub. Very romantic. We also had a fireplace and a patio that let out onto the huge common pool area. The common areas of the B&B are just what you'd expect from a charming country B&B, with plenty of books to curl up next to the fire with, and complimentary water, charcuterie, wine, etc. in the dining area. Speaking of dining, breakfast was outstanding each morning. It was served in three courses, each delicious and very elegant. I would book this place again in half a heartbeat. read more

If you are looking for a place that is run by some of the nicest, most professional people you'll ever meet who are able to recommend some of Napa's hidden gems; a Bed and Breakfast that is perfectly located just a mile from downtown Napa; a breakfast menu that will make all of your taste buds scream; a room cozy enough to call home; or just a clean place to stay on your weekend in the valley, then look no further. Sam, Judy, Scott and the rest of the Candlelight Inn staff go out of their way to ensure each of their guests has a terrific experience. For my wife and I, that meant greeting us with a bottle of champagne upon arrival, and also packing us a breakfast for our 5am flight. It is these sorts of little things that make the Candlelight Inn a special place. I would definitely stay here again. And I plan on making that reservation sooner rather than later. read more

To say we had a great time at the Candlelight Inn is an understatement. We had an amazing time and it felt like a true vacation, especially after not really having one for over a year. My wife and I decided to escape for a few days and happened up the Candlelight Inn because of it's solid ratings, and those folks were right! We stayed in the Candlelight Suite which was very spacious, yet quaint! The window seating offered views of the enormous tree in the front yard, along with some deer that decided to graze on the lawn in the early morning hours, and large-tailed squirrel! The super cool stained glass lit up above the bed and cast it's colors across the room which made it feel majestic. Because of the age of the home, it had some unique angles, which included parallelograms, rectangles, triangles and the occasional rhombus...basically a geometry majors' mecca! This all added to the appeal though! The breakfasts are now brought to your door (covid related) at the time you specify, and by golly, they are spot on time! It's a three-course breakfast so come hungry! I personally hope this door service continues because then one can continue to enjoy their own morning rituals without having to be presentable to go downstairs and mingle. Just a sampling of our breakfasts: Monday (scones, mini-muffins, smoothie, OJ, egg frittata with feta, cheddar, spinach and tomato), Tuesday (pears, apricot, French toast with vanilla cream, quiche with asparagus, OJ), Wednesday (banana pancakes with caramel sauce, egg puff with artichoke sour cream and salsa), Thursday (croissant with pear compote, fruit cup, quiche with hatch chili and cheese)...phew! Hungry yet???! Did I mention the Keurig in the room, cheese/meat plates, water, cookies and brownies downstairs by the kitchen to be had whenever you wanted...and wine when requested! The hosts were super accommodating, kind and helpful. There is really nothing I can complain about. There are only a couple things to note: the shower/tub (in our room at least) is fully enclosed by glass so it will steam up quickly...also, getting in/out of the tub is a little steep so watch your step! Otherwise it was nice and quiet and peaceful and close to downtown Napa and wineries. There is NO doubt that we will be back! Thank you for some great memories! read more

My sister and I just stayed at the Candlelight Inn and really enjoyed our stay. We were in the Candlelight Suite, for three nights, which is a very spacious and beautiful room. It has so much storage and a stunning stained glass window over the bed. What we enjoyed most about the room was the little table for two next to a window that overlooks the beautiful mature trees. The table was the perfect spot for us to enjoy our morning breakfast. The daily breakfast was amazing. Totally gourmet! It would start with OJ, a fresh fruit dish that changed daily, something sweet like caramel banana pancakes or raisin bread fresh toast and then it would end with a savory dish like an artichoke quiche (incredible). The savory dishes were my favorite. I could have had seconds and I was full. The presentation was always beautiful too. The sheets were the softest ever! I wonder where they bought those soft sheets? I want to buy them. We weren't around at night but I think I saw that some treats and snacks were available. The staff was helpful and friendly. They arranged a wine tasting car service for us and the driver Dave was professional and knowledgeable. His beautiful black luxury van is the best. I wouldn't hesitate using him again. Ask for Dave! I highly recommend The Candlelight Inn. It was affordable too for all that they include. It was centrally located as well which helped with dinner. I will look forward to returning at some point in the future. I liked knowing I was supporting a private business instead of a big company. Lastly, we were greeted with a welcome bag with several goodies inside. Very classy touch. read more
