Stayed here for a few nights when I visited Boston. Stayed in this area due to my discount from my hotel. It's about 15-25 (traffic dependent) from the downtown area, which is great. It's located in a pretty quiet, suburban area. Nice big room with a full kitchenette. Comfortable bed. Friendly staff. Tried to call, however, before my stay to get an email confirmation, and never received it. Not a big deal, but a little annoying.

Standing in inches of stagnant water after mere minutes at 3AM.

The first push-back I encountered was when I called ahead and tried to reserve a room when I was served up my first portion of lies on a golden platter. When I checked in around 8:30 PM, Brianna at the Front Desk told me I was the only person to check in all day. I asked if I could have a room with no one on either side. She told me that Room 433 had been selected by "management" earlier in the day. When I looked at the registration information, room 433 had already been pre-printed in the upper right hand corner prior to checking in. I had also requested a room with a view of the parking lot. When I went up to the fourth floor, my room was on the outside with a view of the adjacent woods. I could tell by voices as well as flushing that there were guests on both sides. I took a shower in the wee hours of the morning only to stand in inches of water (see photo) minutes later. Lastly, when I went to hook up my ordered in, tasty pizza from Uno, the microwave didn't work. I was given the offer of going to an empty room downstairs to heat up my pizza. NO APOLOGY, credit or partial refund when I check out shortly before noon. Merely a dumb, blank stare. Although the bed was acceptable, I was very disappointed by my overall experience in the Braintree hotel where I had lived for two months in the summer of 2021.

Spot where water leaked into the room also shows existing water damage that was never fixed.

I want to start by mentioning that I originally tried to submit this review on the hotel's own website twice but it was rejected by IHG. The reasons they gave in their rejection email were kind of vague and after the first rejection I edited my review but it was rejected again. I called IHG Guest Relations to find out what specifically was wrong with my review and I was told that IHG corporate doesn't monitor reviews. The hotel itself is in charge of filtering reviews and they were the ones who were rejecting my review. I called the hotel to find out how I could edit my review and they told me that corporate handled reviews. This back-and-forth was frustrating and I knew right then that I would likely never get my review approved through IHG so I decided to post it in alternate review sites. I don't feel there is anything inflammatory or inappropriate in my review that would warrant being rejected by IHG. You can decide. First I will say that the staff at the Candlewood Suites in Braintree, MA was very courteous and friendly. However, the poor shape of the property puts their front desk staff in an unfair position since there is a limit to how much a friendly and courteous staff can solve. Here is a list of the issues that led to my poor overall experience: 1) The shade on the window that blocks out the sun was missing in the living room. That allowed tons of sunlight to come in at dawn which woke my child up, which woke us up. I told the front desk staff and they said they would fix it while we were out of the room for the day. When we returned at the end of the day nothing had been done. So I had to go down to the front desk again and wait for them to send someone up to install a shade, which they did. This incident alone is no big deal but it was just one of several issues. 2) It began to rain the second night we were there and the ceiling in the bedroom began leaking. There were two consistent drips coming down from the ceiling near the window and splattering on the carpet. When you're trying to sleep in a quiet room and a drip starts falling on the carpet from the ceiling it is incredibly disturbing. We had to put a bath towel down to quietly collect the drips. The next day I looked closer and there was old water damage at the ceiling near the window, which indicated this was an existing problem that never got fixed. That's unacceptable for any hotel room. 3) We were on the third floor and on checkout day (during July 4th holiday weekend) the elevator broke which means me (and everyone else in the hotel) had to lug all of our stuff down the stairs. This isn't directly anyone's fault but the hotel is always accountable for their property, services and the customer's experience. But considering I had a room that was missing a shade and had a leaky ceiling I don't have high confidence they were keeping the elevator regularly maintained. 4) As my two-year old was walking around the front sidewalk and flowerbed/mulch in their parking lot he came across a used condom and almost stepped on it. It was in plain view. It's obvious why this is unacceptable so I won't go into any more detail about it. 5) The cost for this hotel was as much as $178/night. There are much cleaner and nicer hotels with kitchens and bedroom suites within a 15-minute drive from Candlewood in Braintree that cost much less than that. For $178/night I do not expect luxury accommodations but I do expect a basic level of cleanliness and quality. For all the reasons above this hotel did not meet those basic quality levels. Lastly, everything I mentioned here in this review I told to the front desk staff (other than the elevator and the high price of the room). As I said they were very nice about it. I never once asked for any kind of compensation. I just gave them the feedback in a polite way and went back to my room. They ended up voluntarily giving me some points specifically for the leaky ceiling. But that was before I discovered the condom. I checked out and left shortly after I alerted them to the condom in their flower bed. As you can imagine, I will not be returning to this hotel. Despite my bad experience, I'm not going to tell anyone not to stay here. Everyone should make their own decision. But at least now you have some information to consider when making your final choice. Good luck.

The bed and pillows were lumpy but I am rating this high because the staff was friendly and accommodating.

Had a cery fun upbeat/outgoing front desk person but that is it oh and a nice gym and big backyard area. The breakfast that we got was tasteless and not many options to choose from. My room was spacious the window seemed a bit small for the size room it was. The bed oh man was the most uncomfortable hotel bed I think I have ever been on. I barely slept the night I was there. Also, the mattress cover was put on inside out and I think they forgot to put a sheet over that one. I slept on the outer most layer. Worst night sleep ever. Thankfully it was only for one night though. I tried to fall asleep on the couch too that was in my room and that too was uncomfortable and I sank into it. One other plus to this hotel besides it friendly front desk person and the gym and courtyard is that it is walking distance from a little outdoor shopping area that includes a starbucks, tavern in the square, ben and Jerry's and more stores.

To our delight this event went above and beyond the usual shower celebration First, we noted the Neighborhood Club offers several spaces where a shower can be held. Our gracious event manager Christina, who had attended to every detail in the planning of the occasion, guided us to the "Living Room," a cozy and relaxed area with its own cocktail lounge and lovely décor. The Living Room, which was festively decorated by the hosting family is both comfortable and elegant. When seasonally appropriate event planners can request the stately fireplace to be lit. Guests immediately seemed to feel at home as they came into the room. The staff was very efficient in preparing the buffet brunch, including both breakfast and lunch choices, as well as accommodating guests' food needs. Our meals were delicious. We especially enjoyed the variety of choices including salads, vegetables, breakfast rolls, quiche, fresh haddock, and chicken piccata. More than a few of us returned to the buffet for seconds. As we gathered together the Neighborhood Club's welcoming setting and attentive staff made this a very memorable and happy time for family and friends to celebrate.
