Innovative concept executed well. May not be for everyone, but you cannot deny they are novel, and do what they do well. It's in the lobby of a freshly restored old school hotel. Signage minimalistic, so easy to miss the hotel. Bar signage almost non existent. You walk in, and find yourself in a tiny vestibule created by massive curtains. Kind of cool. Part the curtains, and you find yourself in a tiny lobby. Walk across the lobby to the next set of massive curtains and you enter the bar. It's a very cool cozy space. Chic, hipster, and even a touch of old school elegance. Not sure how they pulled that off. Comfortable seating along outside 2 walls and a bar on the 3rd wall. Not very big, so fills up very easily. Craft cocktails is what they make. All sweet or super sweet. But that's why it's called Candy Bar. They do have a very nice sparkling rose wine on the dryer side. If you are in a hurry, this place is not for you. Each drink is fairly complex and takes a while to make. Best way I can describe this is a cool innovative place. Makes Detroit seem more fashionable. Worth a try even if this is not your cup of tea. read more

Ok. 5 Star because the atmosphere is so cool and the drinks were good. And the homemade "butterfinger" candy bar was de-lish!! BUT...don't expect to go here with a big crowd. I would say this place seats about 25...I could see it getting loud and over-crowded. But it's tucked away and it feels luxurious and secretive. The plush, velvety pink loungers and huge disco ball makes you feel like you're in a swanky Paris bar/nightclub. Definitely go here. Crush velvet, cool tunes and fresh drinks! What else could you ask for...I imagine this was what it was like going to a Speakeasy in the Classic Detroit days - with elegance and glamour. The Candy Bar is on the smaller side so it fills fast on the weekend, but service was good and friendly and the bar tenders are whipping up many creative drinks. Nice place to stop on your way to dinner or after a show for some libations and good times. We stayed at the Siren, so it was very convenient. One note, the prices are Big City rates, so be prepared to spend a little...but this really isn't the kind of joint you'll spend the whole night at, just a great place to begin and end a Detroit night! read more

I really love this place. The decor is cute. Drinks are good. The only reason I didn't give it five is that there is a hint of classism here. It doesn't feel like all are welcome at times and thats not cool in 2019. Wish it was a little less pretentious but still proud. read more

Beautiful bar, BUT that hostess has to go. I don't know her name but she was there almost everyday this past weekend. I was staying in the hotel from 5/30 to 6/3. I felt like everyday she had some issue. She's extremely rude. Like the only reason I didn't want to go back is just based off of her being so unpleasant. I hope they find a new hostess because that bar is great other than that. read more

Nice what a wonderful experience. This was like a speakeasy. Never would have known unless another bar we were waiting to get in told us. We had a wonderful time the decor was beautiful. Drinks were good. It took awhile before we received our drink . But the hostess was wonderful. It also was tight in there you are really close to the next person, but everyone was friendly. I would recommend this place just for the decor was amazing. There was no food, just drinks. Downtown Detroit has it going on. The hostess at the front wasn't very nice. Told us it would be over an hour wait for 2 people. Failed to mention we could get drink service in the lobby which was fully open and had menus on the table. We only found out because another group asked. Very small, very intimate setting. I loved the atmosphere and the cozy couches. We went on a weekday so it was not busy and we got sat immediately. There was no dress code and we were dressed casually. It felt out of place so next time we will be dressing up. The cocktails were very complex and delicious. Three girls each got two different cocktails so we got to try a wide variety and we loved them all. It is expensive but it's worth the experience and the complexity. I've been to Bad Luck bar and their cocktails were very average and even more expensive... this was on point. Great date spot. I will be returning again for sure. read more

I really wanted this to be a better experience than I had, but it just wasn't. We made reservations for 6pm on a Friday night and were escorted to our table. The bar is very pretty and very quaint, but it was a little louder than I had expected and I expected more jazzy music, but nonetheless. I ordered a Vieux Carre, which should have been a pretty strong cocktail, but it seemed watered down. With an all alcohol drink, it should have been better. The lemon wheel was not the appropriate garnish and the glass was only half full (it was a rocks glass) My wife got a Cosmopolitan and it was ok, but a bit too sweet. I ordered 2 more drinks and neither one of these was anything to write about. After almost 1.5 hours and 3 drinks, I should have been feeling pretty good. Not what I was expecting for $15 drinks. At any rate, we did make some great conversation with the couples next to us, so that was the highlight. Maybe we just were there on an off night. I am willing to give it another try. read more

I've probably been here a dozen times now and always enjoy popping in. Depending on the time or day it can be really chill or very busy and noisy. But staff is always cool and just such a fun intimate setting. Im more impressed with the cocktail choices than the wines but that's the whole point of this bar. read more

Mysteriously we never received the text telling us our table was ready. Went back an hour later, they claimed they sent it but we missed our chance and proceeded to sit some other people. The Candy Bar is incredibly intimate and makes you feel as if you're in a Wes Anderson film. Hidden behind a large velvet curtain off the lobby of The Siren Hotel, you're greeted by a host who treats you as if you're important guests. We were seated within 10 minutes at peak hours on a Saturday night. All the nostalgic details make for an incredibly fun experience. The drinks are unique and prices were pretty much as expected. I had both the Bubble Rum and the Tournesol. Both were sweet, boozy, and fitting to the theme. My boyfriend enjoyed both his whiskey drinks as well. I was surprised to find their spirits list wasn't as extensive as I expected, but I imagine it'll change after some time since they're still very new. Overall, we felt taken care of and stayed longer than we planned to! We'll be back once another occasion allows us to return to Detroit. read more

I absolutely loved this cocktail lounge! The staff were friendly, the drinks were strong and good, and the ambiance was superb! You feel like your transferred back in time as you pull back the curtain and enter the lounge. The room has this unspoken energy to it that ignites your senses. Checked out Candy Bar for the first time last night. First, the bar host was not wearing a shirt under his jacket... really? We sat at the corner table near the bar. The server never greeted us nor asked to take our drink order. I had to flag her down. Mind you, this is a tiny 30 seat bar... We sat for 28 minutes and still did not have our drinks. Several other people received drinks that came in after us. We got up and left. $15 valet and no cocktails. The bottom line is the service sucks and is unacceptable for a small place with no food. They need to get their act together and treat their patrons better. Oh and I almost forgot to mention - it is so loud that you can forget having a conversation. read more

Loved it!! My new favorite cocktail bar downtown!! Such a fun vibe, the decor in the bar as well as the rest of the hotel is awesome. From the chandelier to the disco ball, it was perfect. My boyfriend and I sat at the bar and really enjoyed watching the bartenders, they were friendly and engaging and mixed up several great drinks. Our favorite is to do "dealers choice" and they did not disappoint. I started with a drink off the menu - the Bubble Rum and it was one of the best, most unique drinks I've ever had. Not sweet at all, but the bubble gum flavor really came through. We love craft cocktails and have been to many around the country and Candy Bar definitely deserves five stars. After getting off work- I walk 20 min to see this amazing place that came so highly recommended- I get there at 140am. I'm new in the area and wasn't aware of the last call time being so early- the girl stood in my way of the door and said they were done- I thanked her and turned around to call my uber. 5 min later, 5 guys walk in, she gets them drinks- 3 feet away from me while I look at her in disbelief... disappointed for sure coming from another bartender in the area. read more

He approached my party on 3 different occasions to ask us not to use a flash, not to watch videos on our phone and told my family member he and his fiancé could not have their own seats and the bar was empty! Cool and funky but super tiny. An eclectic throwback to a fancy parlor the vibe is interesting. The wait is typically long on a weekend (duh) but you can order a drink while you wait in the lobby. Only thing annoying is that you have to stay on site while you wait unlike say the Monarch club were they'll text you when there is space available. If you're just looking to be out for an hour tops this may be your place. But if you're with friends having a good time I would not suggest this place as the skinny Batman joker looking manger will kick you out. We were their with a party of 5. Had a reservation when for when it opened at 5. Drinks are 15+ and there's no food. We all had two drinks. So spending over 200 with tip and being kicked out because they "needed" the table didn't sit right with us. Especially when there were 3 empty tables. The place is very very small. So it's not like it was a dead zone area where there was not waitress for those tables. Also, they allowed people in with no reservation because they did have the free tables, but don't kick out the ones who had a reservation, spending good money and having fun out. They should of not allowed those in without a reservation if those with one could not be accommodated. As we were forced out of the facility we were met with other who had an issue with the same manger. All in all everyone was great other than that manager. Would highly suggest getting rid of him and promote one of the other lovely ladies who assisted us. read more
