The bartenders are helpful with picking out drinks you may enjoy, and their drinks are fabulous! There is really something for everyone's palate on their menu. Kamper's is really all about the vibes. The views are incredible and the Book Tower is an iconic staple of Detroit architecture. Great views of the new Hudson building / GM HQ as well! Leave or to my daughter to find the most off the beaten path restaurant to celebrate her birthday. She is obsessed with rooftop views hence how we ended up here. I took one look at the menu and cocktail list, and determed that we would be going somewhere else to eat afterwards, thinking, "this won't be a long visit at all." But oh was I pleasantly surprised. First round of cocktails set the tone and gave us the courage to go ahead and try some of the plates. We decided on the shrimp, pork belly and gorgonzola cheese ones. Absolutely delicious. So then we decided on round two of cocktails the plate of chips, avocado toast and another round of pork belly! Again, divine. Although I will admit, everything got dipped into the pork belly sauce. Was tempted to do a round three to try the highly recommended lobster rolls but decided to save something for the next visit because there will be one. They executed all the small plates exceptionally well. And the cocktails were top quality! Only complaint was the seats are very low to the ground. I'm short and my legs were aching. I can only imagine how uncomfortable those with normal legs feel after dining. Amazing spot for a drink and not a bad spot for some great finger foods. It's a really cool vibe with a great cocktail menu. Since the cocktail menu had Yellow Chartreuse, I asked the server to have the bartender mix up a good cola up with yellow chartreuse since it's my favorite. I've been here several times and just really enjoy the overall rooftop experience! We were celebrating the 4th of July a little differently this year and decided to hang out with some friends who live downtown and bounce around to the bars open in the area. I have been wanting to come here for a while and one of my summer bucket list items was to watch the sunset on a rooftop bar so I came by after an evening of dilly dallying. To get to the rooftop you just ask for a table in the lobby and once your seat is ready they allow you to take the elevator up to the rooftop. I asked to be seated at the bar and was allowed to go up after about a 10 minute wait. The space is beautiful, unfortunately it was lightly raining so I did not go out on the patio initially. I sat at the bar and ordered the Lucky Star, a tequila based cocktail and the lobster roll, which came with chips. The lobster roll was packed with lobster and seasoned so well. The chips were a little too salty for me, I wish they had just served them plain instead of with whatever seasoning they had on them. After a while the rain eased up and I was able to go out on the rooftop for a while and even snag a free seat and watch the sunset. It was such a vibe and I happily checked this off of my summer bucket list. read more

Of course Kamper's is five star. On one of the top level of historic Book tower, it offers small plates, drinks, and panoramic views of downtown Detroit. Everything was so good. Food was fresh, house cocktails were on point. Bartender/server is very knowledge of their menu and provided recommendations. Styling of the lounge is warm and comfortable. And of course the skyline is immaculate at night. I don't recommend. Their resy profile "welcomes and encourages walk ins." However, after being quoted an hour wait for 3 (just drinks and we were totally fine with that) we still did not get in after 80 minutes of waiting with 6 more parties ahead of us. That is unacceptable to tie up my night waiting at nearby establishments trying to visit your facility with that terrible of a system. If it a two hour wait -tell me, just be transparent, your website says you don't allow parties to stay over 2 hours, that annual is not the case otherwise I'm sure we would of been welcomed. read more

Dropped in on a whim. Somehow we were lucky enough to get a table. You have to check in at the host stand by the elevators before you can go into an elevator up to the 13th floor. I recommend a reservation. I also recommend you give yourself plenty of time. Getting a drink isn't quick. It's pretty ridiculous actually how long it takes for a server to stop by especially when ordering a second cocktail. It wasn't crowded enough to warrant the time it took. The cocktails are ok, I have had better at many other places. Nothing fancy or involved going on so I'm not sure what takes so long. The wine list is pretty terrible. The rooftop is great, that is what brings you and brings you back. Looking forward to warmer weather to come back again. read more

This lounge is beautiful! We were able to snag seats on the rooftop, which is absolutely beautiful. You can see the city lights and enjoy the breeze. We had the Plato De cinco jotas ( ham/ bread) which was delicious and crispy. I had an espresso martini that was amazing, our server also brought out complimentary champagne since we had a brief wait for service. The Kamper's rooftop was something I had not been to because im usually in Detroit during the winter. It was such a pleasure to go finally. The decor is bold and warm complete with evergreen colored velvet curtains drawn open by guided metallic leaves. The skyline is perfection and so is the ability to look all the way up at to the top of the Book Cadillac Building in all of its glory. Wow, soooo coooool!! Great view of the city, new Hudson building... it is packed on a Friday night and reservations are a must. It was very good service with the atmosphere so wild. The food are small plates/tapas and they are DELICIOUS! I would not go here for food alone because serving size is so small and the price is so high, but with our large group we ordered everything on the menu and they were all great - even dessert! The shrimp was cooked perfectly and nice and spicy. The tomato Parmesan on toast - the tomato tasted like it was just plucked from the vine. Park in a lot a block away for half the price or get valet directly in front of the building. Everyone wants to be at a well-appointed bar that overlooks a city. A good view and a good cocktail go hand in hand. When in Detroit, go directly to the Book Building and take an elevator up to Kamper's Rooftop Lounge. The building is a beautiful example of pre-depression optimism and even irrational exuberance. Marble and sumptuous materials adorn the lobby, setting the tone. An elevator goes up to 13! Stepping into a dark hallway was disorienting, but there was a person who greeted us. We walked up one flight of very well-appointed stairs and into a sumptuous wood and velvet curtain paradise. An Alegria with citadelle jardin gin, lychee, mediterranean tonic. It was an incredible flavor vortex and slightly too sweet, but very good. The Encanto with mahon gin, coconut, celery bitters, indian tonic was an incredible delight and highly recommended. The service was good but low key. We decided to go out on the open-air deck as it is very well appointed and full of comfy sofas and fireplaces. We took the obligatory photos and soaked in the great Detroit skyline. Drinks were $40 - a steal, considering the great view and environment. I highly recommend this gem. If you follow my reviews, you know this girl is happiest on a patio in the D! We are on a mission to get to as many rooftops as we can fit in this summer! The Book Tower looks absolutely fabulous!! And Kampers has done a beautiful job with the space they have. You can choose to sit out on the rooftop or inside. Both choices are great! I will say that with a party of two, they sat us with another couple on the rooftop. I wasn't a huge fan of that set up. It normally would be fine because we typically make friends everywhere we go, but this couple was fighting. That totally ruined the romantic vibe of the evening. We ended up going inside because it was super awkward after a while. We went inside and sat at the bar and had an absolute blast! Love both our bartenders! We then ran into some friends of ours and had even more fun. We had already eaten, so we didn't try the food. It was such a a lovely experience! I'm hoping this beautiful weather will continue so we can make it to all the best rooftops this summer! read more

Let's gooooo!!! I'm so excited to tell you guys about this spot. Just because there is finally a real classy roof top bar in Detroit. Thanks to my buddy who was showing us some new spots. Let's get to it shall we (drinks edition). Negroni: One of the best negronis I have ever had in my life "On God". Because this drink isn't for everyone, and to see the have this delicious concoction on tap speaks volumes to me. Sangria Blanco: This was the hubby's drink and I did get a sample just so I know what I'm talking about. It's light refreshing and that citrus finish is to die for. 10 out of 10! Sangria Tinto: Spicy with citrus notes is so comforting. I would definitely order this again if given the chance. This place is super nice and extremely dialed in. Ambiance is on point, the service is amazing and the atmosphere is definitely conducive to grown up, leveled up fun. I adore spots like this. Notice the lack of TV screens. This place is for people who like to have real meaningful conversations. We're not here to cheer on the home team, we're here to catch up for real. They might not say it. But if you're the Margarita and Piña Colada type, please don't even bother. I'm sure that other roof top bar can serve you that. Finally, a proper rooftop lounge in Detroit! All the other rooftop lounges are basically only one or two floors up, but Kamper's is a proper 14 floors up and has the most gorgeous, stunning views of downtown Detroit's cityscape! The set up is very interested as you check in and join the waiting list for Kamper's in the lobby of Book Tower by the elevators. Then you wait for someone from Kamper's to come down the elevator to then escort you upstairs and into the bar area where you'll be seated. My friends and I just wanted to check out the space first before committing, so we were permitted to do that and were escorted upstairs. Once you get out of the elevator though, there is still another staircase you need to go up until you're actually at Kamper's. At first, I was worried about accessibility, but realized they have a separate elevator to take you up that last floor too if you need it. Once we got up that final flight of stairs, Kamper's was there. There's no door, it's just wide open and the seating area begins. It's not a ton of room, but all the seating areas look super cozy and the vibes are very impressive. Their rooftop outdoor lounge area looks bigger than the indoor area, unless I just didn't get to fully see the expanse of the indoor space. But the outdoor area is truly impressive. A ton of couches, other patio seating, giant umbrellas, and fire pits. It's a really wide space and I would say there are not enough fire pits given how cold it can get up here. The outdoor space opens right out from the dark, vibey bar counter area that looks so beautiful and moody. It's sure to be a vibe whenever you come here and I can't wait to come back to properly hang out here. It's definitely a great idea for smaller gatherings with friends, date nights, etc. and feels pretty upscale and like you're removed from the rest of the world a bit. Very fun! read more

On the rooftop of the historic and beautiful Book Tower building is Kampers. After brunch at Le Supreme we headed upstairs for a cocktail. It was a wee bit chaotic up there since I think there was only bartender working but once we got our drinks we took them onto the terrace to enjoy the panoramic views. It was gorgeous! I'm currently pregnant, so I had the bartender get creative and make a mocktail of their choice and it did not disappoint! Our server was very friendly and helpful, but seemed to be the only one so she was busy which resulted in drinks taking awhile to come out (not painfully long like Monarch Club, just a little longer) but regardless they were worth the wait and she was courteous and working hard.
