Crooks! Completely scandalous crooks. Beware! These creeps overcharge you and expect you're too stupid or naive to notice. Pay attention to how they ring you up- that sparkling water that has a posted price of $2.99 will be rung up as $3.99. The candy that is $1.50 each will be rung up as $2.50, etc. You have to watch them carefully though- because they won't hand you an itemized receipt, just a slip with your total. read more

Came to Laguna Beach with my friend to go to the cat cafe, but when we came they said they closed early today. So, we went shopping on the streets and came across this candy shop. They had sour hi-chews and a great assortment of candy. I would recommend coming here to find your favorite childhood candy. read more

Fantastic candy store. Aside from dozens of flavors of taffy (banana!), they have just about any other kind of candy you've ever had. I was looking for little coffee hard candies and mini Cow Tails, and they had them both. There's a selection of vintage and international candies at the back as well. What's not to like!? read more

This place is yummy, but dangerous! There is such a large selection of candy so you will definitely find something that you like. The only downside to me is that it is pretty pricey, but I guess that is what you get for being in downtown Laguna. read more

If you love taffy candy, this is the place to go! There's tons of flavors plus many other kinds of candy & unique little gifts. The lady who works here is very nice and suggested the maple bacon flavored candy. There's a location at Pier 39 in Fisherman's Wharf in San Fransisco as well. They're both good stores. read more

Fantastic! Candy Baron is a chain, I believe, but I love this place anyway! As everyone mentions, it is very old fashioned, all the candy is actually on barrels, and you get a basket to fill with what you like. This place has a great variety of salt water taffy, the old school candy: Mary Jane, Peanut butter bars, Chik-O-Stiks, Abba-Zabba(you-my-only-friend), Tootsie roll pops, Candy Cigarettes, Crybabies, Lemon Heads, Cherry Clan, Boston Baked Beans.... Candy Baron also has sugar free candies (e.g. Godiva, some taffies, hard candies), and imported from various parts of the world (Lion Bars, Bounty Bars, Baci*). Gripe: Slightly expensive :P Like: Everything else! :D Also like that they portion the gummy candies so that you dont overdo it. Great selection of candies from childhood, but beware you're going to pay a steep price. Personally, I'd just go here for candy that you can't find in your regular grocery store because a movie sized box of junior mints is going to cost you $5. So stick to specialty candies that are difficult to find and you'll be happy. read more

Willy Wonka heaven. This place has been here forever and they have the best selection of imported and domestic candies ever! Most of the candy is in old woodern bins and you can pick out the stuff you like and it gets weighed at the end. Be careful-it is a little pricey and your eyes are always bigger than your budget. Great selection of salt water taffy and candies from around the world. Candy cigarettes and Violet Crumble (what ever happened to Olivia Newton John's clothing store she had in Crystal Court?-that was the only place you could find this candy). Parking is horrible if you can't find a spot in the meters out front. We always get dropped off and run in to do our shopping. read more

In reviewing my favorite winter candy store, Kilwin's Chocolates & Ice Cream of Venice, Florida, I realized I had been remiss in reviewing my favorite candy store, in my favorite town. Candy Baron is like entering a time machine, taking you back to an old fashioned penny candy store, only more expensive, though certainly more than fair for it's prime location. I will gladly pay more, to keep a quaint gem like this in town. The joint is HUGE too, and always jumping! From Taffy to Tootsie Pops and probably any candy from your childhood you can think of, that is still in production, Candy Baron has an amazing selection of candy you've forgotten but will make you smile & remember, when you see it. The best thing they carry, which sadly my winter candy store doesn't (anymore), are chocolate covered Gummy Bears, though lately they've been out of the dark chocolate, which I prefer to the milk chocolate covered Gummy Bears. Laguna Beach is paradise, in winter, spring, summer & fall, and it's unique, amazing places like Candy Baron that help make it that much more memorable. read more

Soo expensive but they have astronaut ice cream and chocolate rocks which I love! I mulled around the store for a while gasping at all the prices. I finally caved on the chocolate rocks and dippin dots-esque freeze dried ice cream. I went up to the counter and told the older man cashier "you got me..." as I handed him the $7.99 container of rocks. When he realized I was making a joke and not being rude, he chuckled. I'll be finding cheaper chocolate rocks online but this is a novelty store and is fun to look around in if your close by. read more

today on Sunday, July 12th, I went here with my mom while going to the beach and I just have to say the place looks amazing and also I brought my surfboard there and a guy told me to leave it in the front and he will watch it for me witch I appreciated that a lot. anyways the store looked amazing and also the amount of candy in there was astronomical with the great picks and even bugs....if you're into that but still I had to give it 4 stars because it's kinda expensive but understandable due to the places the large size of candy and stuff. so I give it 4 stars. also, there was a rat in my- jk :) read more

This is still my favorite shop in LB. They've got every kind of packaged candy imaginable, and the people working here are so into helping you find what you want. They've got all of the candies that were my favorites when I was a kid. Plus, they've got lots of fun candy novelty items. The only notable negative is the Baron's high prices (that's where they lost the fifth star), so you don't come here for value. You come here for the experience and the selection of candies that you won't be able to find anywhere else. read more

Holy Salt Water Taffy! I've been coming here as a kid every time we were in Laguna. The choice of Salt Water Taffy is endless. My personal favorites are coffee, maple, vanilla, and popcorn. There are almost no words to describe this place. They have EVERY kind of candy, old school and new that you can imagine. You want some funny candy gift ideas, they have it! Lunch boxes like Star Wars, Wonder Women etc, how fun is that!?I swear they have stoner candy, LOL. Rude staff. I agree 100% with ASHLEY below. This owner or manager or employee on duty is very very rude. We were walking around and picking up items to buy (at least $20 in our hand) and we took a picture of one of the candies to send to our friend to make sure it was the right one that they wanted and the guy came over and took the items out of our hands and said NO PICTURES. My wife and I both looked at him with our mouth on the floor and said we are making sure this is what our friend wants. As he continued to put the product back on the shelf we walked out in SHOCK. That delicous Australian treat of chocolate-covered honeycomb gave me a reason to drop Washingtons in your store like they were burning up my pockets, but you stopped. The selection of candy is amazing! However, the candy is old. I purchased a chocolate candy and the chocolate was stale and the marshmallow inside was not gooey as it should have been, it was rubbery. They may have a large quantity to choose from, but the quality lacked. But the store is cool to look through. read more

I moved into town and discovered this store. I was excited to go in and buy some candy. Unfortunatley with the huge selection I can`t really find anything I like. It`s mainly full of taffy and gummi`s. The people are not the friendliest to deal with. HOWEVER -- The prices are way to high for what they have.. A pack of 'mallo cups' for 2 bux?? No thank you . I bought more than $11.00 worth of salt water taffy, mixed, a few days ago but had to throw away more than 80% of them. I tasted a few first and they were all so bad that I started to open one by one and cautiously took a bite. Most of them tasted beyond being bad and I had to spit them out--tasted like chemical. They were very old, stale and absolutely not palatable! I can't say about the variety of other candies they carry, but the taffy candies were absolutely terrible! Expensive waste!! read more

The candy here is CRAP everything tastes like old stale and a year old. The man working there is soooooooooooo rude. He told my kid picked up a piece of candy he wanted and was on his way to an me then he dropped it and the man walks up to him and says "get out NOW" my son was picking it up then the guy said to just leave it and go my son is 4 years old too. He was there with his 7 year old friend. I notice him leaving the store so I walk out there and ask him why he left and he told me what happened. Then an hour later we go back in there and I pay for the candy and the man sees the kids and tells us " I normally don't let people I kick out buy candy later but I will let it slide this time, they seem like nice kids. It's just if the candy is damaged we have to change the price and make it higher." To be nice I say " I understand sir, we'll take our candy now" then he hands it to us and we leave. I'm all for nostalgic specialty candy shops and I was so excited to find Violet Crumble bars! However, it was a letdown to take the first bite and discover it was unmistakably stale. Then I read the wrapper and the "best by" date was months past. Hmm... Candy Baron, I don't complain about paying over $4 per imported candy bar, perhaps you could insure the merchandise is fresh in exchange? Other than that, the shop is adorable and squeezing past barrels of salt water taffy and chattering teens/tourists adds to the old tyme feel. read more

I have been coming here throughout the years and they do have quite the selection of candy both bulk and not. This is the first time I came in with a stroller, I don't recommend it as the candy barrels take up too much room and the aisles are narrow but that didn't stop us from buying 80.00 worth of sugar :) read more
