Review/Complaint - Luisa Chocolatiere, Laguna Hills I had a very disappointing and frustrating experience with Luisa Chocolatiere in Laguna Hills. I placed an order for 30 white chocolate swans--a key part of the wedding favors--eight days prior to a wedding, with a confirmed pickup time of Thursday at 11:30 AM, the day before the event. When I arrived at the shop, the posted hours indicated it should have been open since 11 AM, but the store was closed and no one was there. I called multiple times and was given a series of excuses, including that her assistant had been hospitalized the week before. Eventually, Luisa arrived and continued to change her story, offering apology after apology and excuse after excuse. Only after I showed up in person did she actually begin to check whether the order could be completed. Several hours later, she claimed she could still fulfill the order and said the swans would be ready by 7 PM. Since we couldn't return that evening, we arranged to pick them up the next morning at 11:30 AM. Luisa said that would be no problem. However, the next morning, I began receiving texts saying the molds were damaged and she would not be able to complete the order. She offered only two swans--one for the bride and one for the groom. We ordered thirty. That was the entire point. This was a major letdown just before the wedding, and we were left scrambling. The owner demonstrated extremely poor communication, a complete lack of professionalism, and very questionable business practices. Once she accepted the order, she should have immediately confirmed that she had the capability and materials to fulfill it--not wait until the last minute. At no point was I told there might be a problem. This experience was an enormous disappointment during an important life event. I would never recommend Luisa Chocolatier to anyone. The owner is unreliable, disorganized, and lacks the accountability that any successful small business owner should have. I don't know how this shop is still in business. read more

First time here The aroma is intoxicating and you are surrounded by luscious chocolate. I love it. The store is so cute and filled with delicious goodies. I appreciate chocolate making and understand that it is a labor of love to make something that tastes great and looks so beautiful. I purchased two packages of milk chocolate dinosaurs. They were $2.50 each. Initially I thought it was expensive but a little goes a long way. It melts in your mouth and satisfies your sweet tooth. Sometimes I can finish half a bag of store bought chocolate and it still won't satisfy my hunger for a piece of chocolate mostly because it's not made with real chocolate. But it's definitely decadent here and is made without any preservatives and fillers. read more

We wanted a traditional French chocolate bunny, and we went all over town looking for one. The only place we found was this little hole-in-wall shop in Laguna Niguel. Luisa trained as a chocolatier in France and it shows! She makes traditionally molded chocolates on order. So we ordered a big chocolat bunny! We we got it, we were floored! There was 2 1/2 pounds of excellent dark chocolate! And we demanded the French tradition of "Friture" (small molded chocolate surprises inside). It wasn't cheap, but it was a bargain for what we got! My whole family absolutely loves this place and the owner. We've walked in and purchased from their counter at least 100 times over the years. The chocolate is amazing and they have such a variety of flavors to choose from. We've also worked with them for so many different special occasions such as baby announcements, invitations to be parts of the wedding party, thank you gifts, Mother's Day gifts, Valentine's Day gifts, retirement cake toppers, wedding table top displays with self serve candy. As you can tell we've used them for so many special events because where else can you get custom made chocolate. She has a booklet with all the designs you can pick from. For example when my father in law retired from his job as an airplane mechanic we ordered a chocolate airplane to display on top of the cake. Besides special order capabilities they also many prepared options in their business that you can walk in and by with no preordering required also a whole display of a variety of truffles. Luisa is the seriously the sweetest woman ever - she treated my sister and I like royalty when we entered her cute little chocolate shop. From telling us fun personal stories to teaching us about the benefits of consuming dark chocolate, you can tell that Luisa deeply cares about her work and products. One story I really enjoyed was the fact that she told us that she would be willing to search and purchase a certain mold if you needed one for a special event. Luisa literally goes out of her way to make her customers happy and I really value that. Also, she allowed my sister and I to try a sample of each chocolate flavor and thoroughly explained how her chocolates are much different than the ones that are mass-manufactured. When we entered Luisa Chocolate, you would see different molded chocolates on every side of you. To name a few, guitars molds, Despicable Me lollipops, chocolate boxes that go with wine, etc. Literally, it is like the mini version of Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory in here. I ordered 44 customized Palm Tree chocolate lollipops and Luisa surely outdid herself! These Palm trees consisted of either a mixture of milk and white chocolate or dark chocolate. Who knew you could mix chocolates on a lollypop?! Also, she wrapped each lollipop beautifully in a plastic cover and tied each one with a colorful ribbon. I stopped by Luisa's one time and it was closed. And I was bummed because I had read such good things about her chocolates on Yelp. And I needed some chocolates for a gift. I vowed to come back. Fast forward to the end of May... my anniversary is fast approaching and I'm thinking, "I'll score some major points and buy her flowers AND chocolates!" I arrive at Luisa's door midday. LOOK FOR THE UMBRELLA! This shop is in a corporate strip mall sort of place... once there, I head inside and I'm greeted by a friendly old man who tells me their specials and offers me a sample. The sample chocolate is divine and I know, then and there, I'm purchasing chocolates from this place--I don't care what they cost. The kind man tells me Luisa is in the back dealing with a customer on the phone and will assist me in a moment. We chat about why I'm visiting. He shows me the various chocolates, the truffles, and how they have special molds to create logos and shapes. I spot a milk chocolate butterfly... my wife loves chocolate and she loves butterflies. When Luisa arrives I tell her this--and how I'm looking for something to accompany the flowers I'll be purchasing... and she doesn't try to upsell me. She hears what will make me happy and she provides it, offering insight and kind words. I end up purchasing a small box of assorted truffles and a dark chocolate butterfly. The butterfly I'd seen was milk chocolate and my wife's more of a dark chocolate-lovin' kind of gal. So Luisa said she'd make one just for her. And she would even wrap it up with a Happy Anniversary ribbon and attach the butterfly to the outside of the box of truffles. I came back a few days later--and she showed me the box and I was thrilled. It was adorable, expertly wrapped and packaged, and she was friendly and even threw in a few more sample pieces for good measure. What a great gem in Laguna Hills! This was our first visit. The delicious, chocolaty aroma was the first thing that caught my attention after walking into the store. It is located in an industrial business part of Laguna Hills with plenty of available free parking. For over a decade, I've been driving past this little shop without knowing it. The sweet woman who greeted us told us they can make custom chocolates for a variety of special occasions. She let us sample their dark chocolate and milk chocolate squares. I loved the dark chocolate and the smooth texture as it melted in my mouth. My son really enjoyed his milk chocolate square sample, too. We purchased chocolate chess piece lollipops in the shape of Kings and Queens. They were $1.75 each and the kids enjoyed their special treats immensely. The shop itself is very small on the inside, but they have a broad assortment of chocolates on display in various shapes like hearts, soccer balls, a baseball with a mitt, a puppy, a frog, a turtle, and even a gecko to name a few! If you're in the neighborhood and craving for a chocolate treat or want to get something special for a celebration, this little shop is definitely worth a visit. read more

Found Luisa's shop while looking for chocolates on short notice a few months ago for a birthday. Called for custom cactus shaped chocolates, as well as requested certain flavors and these were all restocked specifically for me the next day. My favorites were the passion fruit and espresso ganache flavors. The chocolate bars are also great. My boyfriend loved the Mayan and the spicy chocolates. They are absolutely delicious and you can taste and see the mastery of her craft that Luisa has. Luisa and her husband were very friendly and helpful and I look forward to my next order! read more

Stumbled upon this place on our way home one day. Noticed a "chocolate shop open" sign on the curb and immediately pulled in. The couple who runs this shop makes the chocolate in house, and it's amazing! They are so sweet! I don't eat dairy, and they told me most of their chocolate is already dairy free. If you want some good chocolate. And not just any good chocolate, but fresh, preservative-free, delicious chocolate, you should come here. My sister's wedding coordinator recommended her and I was designated to try a few nibbles (the best job a sister and bridesmaid could get!). All the chocolates were smooth and silky. My most favorite chocolate to nibble on is the Dark Chocolate Caramel-filled Frogs. I'm usually not a fan of dark chocolate, but these suckers are definitely best with Dark (we tried both milk and dark). I'll stop in just to grab one on the go. The prices aren't bad, either, considering they're hand-made and preservative-free. No shoving away in the back of a cabinet to be eaten a month later. You eat these suckers fresh. Also - I've eaten at the cafe, too. Yum. You won't be disappointed. read more

For being stuck off Cabot road (VERY CLOSE TO 5 FREEWAY) in nothing but commercial complexes Luisa's is a Diamond in the Ruff. These ladies know how to cook, and in a very small space! Not only can they make wonderful fresh tuna salad on squaw bread with apples and walnuts, along with a varitey of other sandwitches hot&cold, homemade soups (turkey chilli! ask for some toasted sourdough on the side), wraps, and other specialty plates, they are a WORLD CLASS CHOCOLATIRE! Vanilla Carmels, Carmellows, Truffles, and tons of other chocolates they make in house and taste superb. Lots of seasonal stuff too!! No need to go all the way to See's Candies, Lusias is right off OSO and the 5 South before Mission Viejo Mall. I go there everychance I get to grab lunch, or if I'm early enough breakfast. They have killer breakfast burritto as well. I can't speak highly enough of the women that run this place!! You owe it to your tummy, and to them, to stop by Luisas and give it a try. Being this close to the freeway you can zoom in and out. IT's a LITTLE TRICKY TO FIND, so keep looking on the side of the road with the commercial complexs for the RED UMBRELLA, there is only one, and that is Luisas. Luisa is great! I came in last minute for chocolate sea shells and other sea shaped chocolates. She was able to custom make everything I asked for. It was for my wife's birthday beach cake. Luisa disguised them for me by putting them in a Macy's box so my wife wouldn't find out. Brilliant, and she grounded up a box of graham crackers for the sand. A friend took me here & was warmly welcomed by Luisa's husband. We chatted & talked about their chocolates & offered us a sample. Then Luisa came out and we each picked a handful of chocolates. They just melt in your mouth! Luisa mention the thousands of molds they have and they can custom make whatever in 48 hours. They carry a small amount a day since their chocolate has no preservatives. They do have a wide variety of chocolates to choose from as well as salted caramels. Yum! These are lovely people with a lovely shop filled with melt in your mouth chocolate! Must visit! read more

I didn't know this chocolate place existed until about a year ago. It does not disappoint-this is the best chocolatiere I have ever been to, and the chocolate is fresh and decadent. The dark chocolate is the best. They sell truffles, various chocolate-covered food (rice krispies, marshmallows), and special molded chocolate (happy birthday, seasonal shapes, even a violin). Luisa Chocolatier is an absolute gem that we are lucky to have locally. Amazing, high quality, fresh, hand made chocolates. All the ingredients are lovingly put together by the amazing owners, who are very knowledgeable and are happy to spend time and chat with you about their craft and product. They are also incredibly accommodating--I cannot do sugar and they make wonderful sugar-free chocolates that are better than anything I've found. No cheap fillers or nasty artificial sweeteners. Just about everything you see they will make sugar free. Some of it is ready made, while others you might have to wait to be custom made, but it completely worth it. (Side note: when you are done buying your chocolates, go next door and order a cappuccino to sip it with from the equally fantastic Mangia Con Amore cafe. And maybe some lunch!) read more
