Being a native Dentonite I mistakenly choose Candy Haven as to order my son's wedding cake.What an utter disappointment!! after calling on 3 different occasions to confirm the order , what I recieved was lacking the top cake to be taken home by the bride and groom in addition to the extra decorations I paid for in advance. I ordered a butter cream icing which was 1/8 in thick and the Bavarian Cream middle was non existent. Way too much cake with little else.. Just picked up my cake. This place is really going into the trash. The cake looks like they let a 5 year old write on it. It looks completely unprofessional. They charged me for decoration. They didn't decorate the cake. There was no thought or talent put into this cake. Don't use this place, take your money somewhere else. This wasn't my first time. I ordered a custom cake for my daughters birthday party. Upon picking up the cake, I saw they neglected to put the horseshoe in the floral design. I very upset given the birthday theme was horses. We used Candy Haven for every birthday cake my family of six had for about 4 years (which translates into about six a year for four years). The last cake we bought there was during July for my very pregnant daughter on her birthday. I was extremely specific about her wanting a yellow cake and even had a conversation about the fact she was pregnant, hormonal and only wanted yellow. To my surprise when we cut into it, it was chocolate. I was so unhappy. I called them the next day to explain what happened and I was not offered a refund, but I was told they would give me my next cake free. I asked if I needed to come pick up a slip or certificate or something but was told "No, we will have a log of it at the front counter when you are ready". Six months later I went to order the cake and was told the offer was only good till the end of the year. I explained no one ever told me there was a time limit and further explained we hadn't had a need for a cake until then. I explained how we were frequent customers over the years and that I had recommended my sister there for both her wedding and groom cake. I asked could they please check with a manager and explain the situation. I was put on hold, they came back a few minutes later and told the manager said no. All I can say is "Ohhhhh Yummmm". I'll drive two hours just to get a taste of Candy Haven. My friends think I am the greatest because I load up on Remnant Cakes and Cupcakes and I run around town doing the "brought you something". They always cheer with delight as the words "you brought us Candy Haven" erupts from their mouths. Then the opening of the boxes creates a small cheer and as they take the first bite, a look of happiness on everyone's face. I love my husband but I think we will have to renew our vows just so I can get a wedding cake from their. I'm jealous when I see the parade of others ordering their cake as they walk away from their "cake tasting" where they have chosen their cake. When Romano's Bakery shut down and left all their clients without prior notice, we were frantically looking for someone to make our wedding cakes at a fair price in just two weeks. My sister-in-law used Candy Haven for their wedding years ago and liked them so it only made sense that we contacted them to see what they could do. My mother-in-law did most of the communication since both my husband and I were traveling for our bachelor and bachelorette parties. Ashley was super and made the whole process easy! They hosted the taste testing for the parents and we ended up going with the amaretto for the bride's cake and chocolate for the groom's. They were delivered on time and looked perfect. I forgot the flowers that were supposed to go on top, so that was totally my bad. (1 of 2 things I botched on my wedding day.) Ashley at Candy Haven was able to book our tasting within 24 hours of contacting her and was super professional, enthusiastic, and helpful. The cake samples were delicious and their range of basic design options was astoundingly diverse and flexible. She anticipated our needs and helped us realize the perfect wedding cake for our style and event. She even went so far as to suggest adding two tuxedo chocolate-dipped strawberries and reproducing the monogram from our invitations in icing on the complimentary groom's cake, and matching the decorative icing on the wedding cake to our wedding colors. Plus, their pricing structure is competitive and an astounding bargain with the level of service we received. While they were setting up our cake at the venue, my husband brought in the homemade cheesecake topped with a brownie tier that he had made to go with the wedding and groom's cake. The Candy Haven delivery people went out of their way to help him set up his special cake addition by trimming the support dowels, decorating it with chocolate-dipped strawberries, adding a finishing ribbon of fudge icing icing to the tier seam, and even repaired the cheesecake when the side split upon adding the silhouette pet toppers that matched our silhouette grooms topper on the wedding cake. All in all, the wedding cake and grooms' cake was astoundingly beautiful, moist, and delicious, and the assistance they provided helped make our own contribution to the cake trifecta fit in perfectly with the other two cakes--not only did they look good, they made us look good, too! Even though we live in S. Arlington, we will definitely be visiting them again to try their handmade candies and kolaches. Recently stopped by for a pound-filled box of truffles for my post-dinner-birthday treat since cake simply didn't seem appealing at the time (I'm picky when it comes to sweets). We've been meaning to stop by this little sweet/kolache shop for quite some time but finally had the time to today. Its a great location- right off the highway with a private lot. Major downfall? The hours. I mean, you pretty much have to squeeze in a few, ridiculous hours throughout the week to be lucky enough to get there when they're open. I was craving a sausage kolache but they were already closed at 1pm on a Sunday -- seriously?! Must be a Denton thing (because we all know Dallas is smart and would stay open for business aka $). Anyway, we were able too choose quite a variety of truffles and special chocolates for about $20- cherry cordials, chocolate covered orange creme, strawberry kreme, "Kaitys" (turtles), chocolate covered oreos, and so much more. Now.. The price is where I struggle with the full 5 star rating. It IS a bit pricey. But I've had great experiences there in the past, consistent quality with the candy and the food. Their cakes are the most delicious I've ever tasted (Candy Haven did my daughter's wedding cakes a few years ago--everyone raved about the beauty and taste!). This organization could have ruined my niece's baby shower. 84 cupcakes were ordered well in advance for a December 3 baby shower. Come Sunday morning, no cupcakes. No excuse, no offers of help but thankfully, they did give the money back. Now the owner is trying to bribe the organizer into forgetting the whole mishap and feigning outrage that her staff didn't make the cupcakes. Well, responsibility starts at the top and the owner should have made sure that her staff followed through or she should fire the clearly incompetent staff that can't complete orders. read more

Candy Haven provided the cake for my daughters wedding this last weekend. The venue I chose uses them exclusively and I know why. The cake was beautiful and delicious and exactly what we wanted. The color of icing was matched perfectly to the swatches we provided. My daughter wanted a fondant bow for the top and it was exactly as we specified. I was worried when I first went into the reception hall and the bow was missing but the caterer told me the bakery wasn't pleased with the bow and went back to make another one. sure enough the next time I checked it was there and perfect. Candy Haven did the wedding cake, groom's cake, and the chocolate favors for my wedding in October 2014. I liked the different options they had in the basic package. There were enough choices that I could find one close enough to my vision without paying a lot more to have a custom cake. I also had them dye the icing to match my colors, and it turned out beautifully. Also the cake was DELICIOUS! I don't like fondant and was very happy that they use real butter cream icing. The guests said it was the best wedding cake they had tasted, and I agreed! The groom's cake was wonderful too. My mother, fiance, and I all enjoyed the tasting and were able to choose a different flavor/icing combo for each layer. We did chocolate truffles for the favors that came wrapped in customizable boxes. It made choosing a favor easy, and the guests also said they tasted wonderful. read more

My fiancé and I came here to have a fondant cake-topper built for our wedding, but after being told it could be done, we were rudely turned away because we were not purchasing an entire cake (our wedding venue is 100% organic and provides both cakes). We asked to discuss this with the fondant-craftsman, but the dyed red-haired girl working the counter simply said no without any discussion. I would have gladly paid any additional price Candy Haven wanted to charge for our specific request, but they refused to even discuss that possibility. Seems like bad business to me. Don't ever do business with Candy Haven if you have a food allergy. We mentioned ours when we placed an order on Monday, they said it wouldn't be a problem. We go to pick it up today and see that they never bothered to write it down. We ask, and are told that it's an ingredient they've used for 18 years, and they weren't about to change the recipe. If we hadn't noticed and hadn't asked, one of us would have wound up in the hospital. But they think their recipes are more important than that, I suppose. They were also defensive, rude, essentially accused us of lying, etc. etc., but that's not why I'm writing this. (There's PLENTY of that in other 1-star reviews...) I went to Candy Haven last week to have them create a superhero themed birthday cake for my son's 5th birthday. The decorator was so rude and wouldn't come out from behind the counter to help discuss the cake with me. I brought in a picture and an invitation for reference, she made another woman help me who was struggling with ideas, finally after about 30 minutes of her talking to the decorator all within eye sight from me she came back and said the decorator had bid the 12 inch round cake at $230. Every item, word, color of icing was an itemized additional cost. This was NOT a fondant/ difficult designed cake. I left frustrated, called back and spoke with another employee, simplified the design a bit, and through a series of emails got a new bid of $130. I ended up declining and went to Walmart and got EXACTLY what I initially wanted for $38!!!! In the past I have always purchased cakes from local independent bakeries. I believe in shopping local and supporting independent businesses. I have never been so disappointed and left with sticker shock. Candy Haven cakes just aren't THAT great. Its a cake for 5 year old kids, something they clearly have forgotten. They certainly aren't good enough to pay the high price and deal with the snotty rude service of a decorator who refuses to help. My blended family is a household of 6 kids. That is at least 6 cakes a year. You lost a customer for life Candy Haven. Very disappointed in your customer service and inflated pricing. read more

This is where we got our wedding cake fon 2009 for free because of their arrangement with the wildwood inn. My husband LOVED the tasting and I had a good idea of what I wanted and the lady who consulted us drew it out perfectly. Then, just a few weeks before our wedding I had a change of heart and wanted to change the design so I called and had a 5 minute conversation with the same consultant. She seemed to understand exactly what I wanted and lucky for me, it turned out WONDERFULLY and exactly how I pictured it! We also did a cheesecake with chocolate covered strawberries as the grooms cake. The strawberries were extra but so worth it! We didn't save the top layer and weren't in town to get a cake made for our one year anniversary so I went back for our two year and got a small 2 layer cake and 6 chocolate covered strawberries, it was as amazing as we remembered. Frustrating experience. This place is dishonest and dealing with them is nothing but hassle. They were recommended to us by the Denton country club so that we can get Club discount and a free 1st anniversary top tier. Needless to say we didn't get the discount and a year later they want to charge for the anniversary top tier, although we were told during purchase it was included in the price. Will never buy from them again and will advise my friends and Denton Country club management not to use them. If you are looking for a great bakery, go with Cheesecake Royale. Ehh. The chocolate candies are pretty good, but they're also really expensive. I've picked out truffles and caramels for a birthday present before, but I don't generally buy for myself, as many of the candies are just too overpriced. The cupcakes are however a different story. I tried the cappuccino/coffee kind, and it was disgusting- and I mean gross. Overly sugary icing, dry cake, and just an overall nasty flavor. I asked the girl at the front when the cupcakes were made and she said they were freshly made that morning (I got there right after they opened). So either she lied and they were old, or their fresh baked cupcakes taste like two day old cupcakes- either way I don't plan on going back for cake. read more
