With COVID, it was important to know that everything in there was less than a year old and that their staff is constantly cleaning. Second- let's talk about the staff. EVERY ONE that works there is amazing. They are not just nice and friendly, which is important, but they are inviting. I feel that they truly care about my child and that they care about my needs. Ms Roxanna is always working with my daughter, on reading, which is what I had asked. She is so patient and kind but strict enough to get what I request done. They are also always doing fun and educational stuff, even in the summer. Third- I mentioned they have been a blessing. Christin, the director, has truly been our guardian angel. Even when we first didn't sign up since we decided to enroll her in Kindergarten vs pre-k, she still kept tabs on us, just to see how we were doing. When my daughter's nanny could no longer work, Christin made sure that not only could they watch my child but they were able to pick her up from Kindergarten. No matter how crazy my schedule is, Christin and Kiddie Academy have been and are there for me, completely flexible and willing to work with me and my needs. My child has been to other daycares and I felt that at times, I was just a dollar sign. At Kiddie Academy, I feel like we are friends and family and they do truly care about my child.

PCS Movers PLAN AHEAD!!…read moreWe are a Midwest military family new to the area and were in desperate need of daycare for our two children, a toddler and a pre-K child. Despite our best efforts to be good parents, we didn't do enough prep and research. After just two days of attendance (YES, TWO DAYS), we were forced to make the decision to disenroll. Each day, my baby girl came home with fresh scratches on her face and neck. When I arrived to pick up their belongings after disenrollment, I saw why. The teachers were using the well-behaved toddlers as training aids for the handsy, rough ones. While one instructor went to grab my daughter's things, I saw another put sunglasses on a little girl and then put a boy in front of her, saying, "Gentle hands." He reared back and slapped the sunglasses off her face. I was heartbroken that I had sent my daughter there for two whole days without me. There was a clear negative change in our children's demeanor, behavior and mood after only two days here. The school is situated behind an AutoZone and a 7-Eleven. On the first day, around 10 or 11 AM, I dropped in to check on my daughter. As I pulled into the parking lot, I saw two teenage boys lurking a few feet from the toddlers' playground fence. When they saw us, they scrambled up the fence onto an adjacent wall. My wife wanted to get out of the car to chase them away, but I reminded her that the school could call the police. When I went inside, the director was sitting in front of the monitors. I told her what happened, and she clicked around a few times with her mouse, and that was that. When we saw our daughter, we were upset to see that she was on the playground at the same time these teens were on the fence. One of the worst parts of this experience was when we asked for an exception to their disenrollment policy. We received a personal email from the owner stating, "Unfortunately, we have to follow the policy we have in place. Your balance as of now is $2992." This is roughly $1500 per day! She also called us, and after I explained the situation and mentioned we are a military family who made an honest mistake, she said, "Policy is policy." She did offer to be generous and allow us to make payments. MILITARY FAMILIES BEWARE: GODDARD HAS A 30-DAY NOTICE!!! Every other daycare in the area has a normal two-week policy, but not here! Other schools in the area offer something called Discovery Days, a free grace period where your child can spend time at the school to see if it is the right fit. There are many other issues I've experienced at this school. My son's Pre-K class is adjacent to the playground, and when we went to pick him up for the day, I pulled the metal door handle, and it slid right off into my hand! What if there was a fire and a kid lost the door handle so they couldn't escape, or even worse, an active shooter?! NOPE!!! Not taking my kids!!! The school has cameras but doesn't share the video streams with families. You may want a solid break from your kid, but in the two days of enrollment, we received only one picture of our son in Pre-K and three pictures of our toddler. There are many dirty, old, broken toys that appear to be more donated or recycled. The rug in my son's room was FILTHY brown. The school has one of the highest tuitions in the area but doesn't supply lunch, snacks, diapers, etc. If you send food that needs to stay cool, each class has a large, floppy, ridiculous zippable cooler bag to store food. Hopefully, with the $3000 taken from our family, they can afford a few refrigerators. There's lots more but hopefully you now have enough to make a better decision than I did for our family.

From day one, the teachers and staff have been so welcoming, helpful, and prompt at answering any questions. My son has been fortunate to have a smaller class size which is so beneficial as he struggles with separation from his dad and I. Another great experience was potty training. Without my son's patient preschool teacher, Ms. J, it would have been so much more difficult. She was so understanding and helped him transition out of diapers smoothly. Our experience has been above & beyond what we could have imagined, and we are now recommending them to everyone we know - in particular other LGBTQ and BIPOC parents who could use an extra ally in the process who "just gets it" without any explanation needed. From the beginning, Tay offered really thorough support and communication throughout our pregnancy (we hired her sometime towards the end of the first trimester). We had several sessions supporting us as a couple in preparing not only materially and physically for the transitions into birth and parenthood, but also emotionally and mentally/spiritually. Some in person and some over the phone. Highly recommend hiring them early in the pregnancy (or even for conception care!) if you are able. As the birth approached, Tay was supportive of our process and decisions, even as we grappled with anxieties and fears arising from past birth-related traumas, overwhelm and decision making as we interfaced with the medical system, and chose a hospital further out from us (and them!) than was ideal. When we landed in the hospital a couple times prior to labor beginning, she coached us through our options and helped us self advocate with doctors and make decisions that felt right to us. During the birth, Tay helped us make wise decisions about when to wait at home, and once we were at the hospital and labor picked up (we chose an induction date due to some risk factors and past birth experiences) she was extremely supportive, driving the hour and a half to the hospital when we were ready and coaching us skillfully through our labor and delivery. I truly believe that our labor went as smoothly and quickly as it did, and was a positive experience, due in large part to her support and skill as a provider. She is equal parts protective bulldog when necessary, nurturing force reminding you of your own strength, and quick intuitive decision maker helping to ease and support the body's process as it does what it knows how to do. Post-birth, Tay has continued to be a supportive and trusted presence, helping us navigate decisions and processing our experience. We are still in the postpartum period and truly cannot recommend her services more highly. We cannot imagine our experience without her, and would recommend her to anyone without reservation! And in particular to other queer, gender expansive, interracial, and/or BIPOC couples and parents.

We…read morebrought up wanting a doula who would come early because my wife had trouble getting into active labor in our first birth and then it moved fast and our previous midwife missed the birth. She agreed and brought up that our toddler could be a distraction and that my wife and I "need to be in our love bubble." Additionally suggested we hire her daughter to look after our son in early labor, which we did. We brought up that she was just one stop down on the metro and that was assuring to us. She also asked my wife if she was the type of person that worried about inconveniencing people and she said "yes". Come labor post water breaking, we called our Taja and she had an entirely different tone. She said she was an hour away and asked just about contraction timing. Mentioning that she was an hour out after explicitly asking my wife if she was the type of person who had difficulty inconveniencing people seemed mean and a stark contrast to the thoughtfulness she projected. She never listened through a contraction and concluded it was too early, In stark contrast our incredible midwives from Sage Midwifery were already present and stayed until birth. Taja checked via text or phone call maybe two or three more times, but remained an hour out and continued to just ask for contraction timing, nothing else. This seemed irrelevant because we already said we wanted her early and her daughter was to look after our toddler. My wife ended up having a very similar experience to her first birth, active labor was very fast and at that point we gave up on trying to drag Taja into a birth we felt she didn't want to participate in. We hired her late in my wife's pregnancy so we only had a couple of appointments, and she never offered to give us any of our money back.

She started her day with greetings and hugs and insisted on saying goodbye to them and giving them hugs as we left for the day. Their love for our child was unmistakeable. Any daycare can simply "watch a child" while you are at work. This "home away from home" goes so far above and beyond that. They teach your child sharing, social skills, interactive play, science, reading, art, creativity, and allow them to be kids in a safe, nurturing environment. I truly cannot say enough about Ms. Jackie and her staff. She has found a way to hire, and retain, angels to take care of their children. While in the 2s class my son did get bitten and Miss Jackie was right on top of it and spoke with the other child's parents proptly. They keep confidential all children involved. My son did pick up and learn some less desirable things from the other children. However, I was very clear with setting expectations for his behavior and it was a great opportunity to teach him that he must do what is right regardless of what his friends are doing. I know all the teachers in the center, not just my son's. He loves his teachers! We recently moved and there is another Kindercare that is closer to our home, but i decided to keep him at Newington Forest because he loves it there. I also like the extra things they offer such as soccer, cooking, STEM classes, just to name a few.

The Kindercare team immediately put any concerns at ease, from the center directors Patricia and Janelle who so kindly encouraged me through the first morning drop-off, to the team who was so attentive to rocking, feeding, and playing with my son (and even getting him to nap in a new place!) We love the pictures and updates we get on the Kindercare app of what B is up to during the day. B is now in the the toddler classroom and has celebrated milestones like walking, an expanding vocabulary, social skills, and at 18 months is already identifying letters and numbers. But the best review is the giant smile B has when he sees his teachers at drop-off!
