Diner food is an American staple. Consider Crouse's Cafe a step up in that American cuisine. The Omelets are to die for. Loaded with your choice of vegetables or cooked meats and cheese. Crispy but not overcooked bacon every time. Perfectly cooked eggs every time I've been there, which has been about half a dozen times now. 5 stars for this perfect little cafe in Jimmy Stewart's home town. We were here to visit the Jimmy Stewart museum and afterwards we decided to take a walk along Philadelpia street and find something to eat. We came across this place and we were so glad they hadn't closed for the day yet. I we ordered pancakes and a breakfast Mexican style wrap, which had eggs, cheese, ham, and salsa. It was great! But what really left an impression was the pancakes. It was a special, cinnamon roll pancakes, I am honestly not sure how they even made such a creation. They were warm and fluffy, and crunchy on the edges. If I had to pick one word to describe them, it would be "heavenly" and that's the truth. In addition to the top notch food, it was also very reasonably priced and it came out super fast. We got to experience the charm of this quaint town from the window booth of the cafe. I will definitely visit this cafe again the next time I am in Indiana. read more

Came in this morning based on previous reviews posted here and elsewhere online. The previous reviews had been positive so we thought we would try it out and went in with a positive attitude and expectation. First downfall was the watered down coffee that was overly sweetened, that was given to us before we even received silverware or napkins. We were forced to stir the coffee with the straw out of our other drinks. Second downfall came when I ordered the Belgian waffle with strawberries and whipped cream, expecting both to be fresh. The waffle came out and was dry and ice cold like it had been sitting back in the kitchen for a while. They had to remake it for me and at that time I asked for the strawberries, which were total mush after being clearly frozen and thawed, to be on the side because after seeing them the first time I knew I was probably not going to eat them and just have the whipped cream. The "whipped cream" turned out to be Cool Whip, which was massively disappointing. These two items were an extra charge to the waffle which I wouldn't order again. After this experience I don't think I will go back. The service was poor, slow, and wasn't efficient . We were receiving items that we needed, like silverware and condiments late, that should've been provided ahead of time. The food was cold by the time everything we needed was brought out. It has potential, if they work on having things like silverware out prior to guests arrival and making slight upgrades and improvements to their ingredients. read more

We saw this new place recently and had the chance to try it today. It was very busy (a good sign). There are tables and booths. It's all new, so everything still looks nice. They only serve breakfast and lunch, so be there before 3pm. The staff was very busy, but still managed to be friendly and attentive. I ordered country fried steak with sausage gravy, over easy eggs, home fries, rye toast and coffee. The steak was just ok but the gravy was very good. Eggs were perfect, potatoes needed salt and pepper but were cooked well. Toast was thick, not burned, not too much butter. Good coffee. My wife ordered blueberry pancakes, a sausage patty and coffee. She said it was all good. We're planning another visit to try some lunch items. It's nice to have a downtown place for a good breakfast. I posted pics of the current menu. read more

I've heard the breakfast is good (from my brother), but we ate there for lunch, and it left a lot of be desired. We had the chicken cheesesteak sub (with chips) and the shrimp and blueberry salad. The shrimp and blueberry salad was surprising disappointing. The shrimp were tiny and flavorless, the blueberries (which there were a lot of) were slightly warmed and therefore soft, which was fine. There was just nothing special about the salad. It was served with a small breadstick. The raspberry vinaigrette was meh. I would never eat that on anything. The chicken cheesesteak was fine...nothing spectacular, but the bread they used was good and tasted fresh. Anyway, next time we'll try the breakfast, which looked good. This is definitely a breakfast place that just serves lunch items because they are open till 3 pm. The staff was friendly, and with some improvements, maybe their lunch will be better. read more

My all time favorite place to go and get breakfast while at school! Actually went there today with my parents and they were impressed with how quick and respectful the workers were! I had ordered the country side (two eggs, biscuit with sausage gravy, sausage patty and home fries or hash browns) with hash browns and it was amazing! My only gripe was that I was expecting shredded hash browns, not the "patty" type. Wish I would have gotten the home fries too! Tried some of my friend's and they were awesome. I left happy and full. Glad there's finally a place open early Sunday mornings to get a delicious and decently priced breakfast. read more

Ate breakfast here a few years back and it was fine so we tried out their lunch offerings. Be warned, if you eat here you will be with loud talking and laughing locals. Seems to be popular with them. Appears to be freshly redecorated and clean except I thing I heard people saying you have to go outside to get to the restroom. Most of the dishes appear to be freshly homemade and they have a sign touting their desserts and homemade soups. The cheesesteak was excellent and fries with gravy the same. The wedding soup on this day was very flavorful however I have a suggestion for them. Do not allow pasta (especially pastina) to cook or even sit in the soup pot. Cook it separately (al dente) and serve it into the bowl with a spoon and then ladle the hot soup overtop. Otherwise the pasta is, at best, ala Campbell's soup or at worst a bowl of soft mush. That was the only negative I took away from this visit. Fast friendly service and good prices. read more

We are frequent flyers @ Krouse's ...the service is GREAT! Always a friendly smiling face to greet you..the food is always tasty, HOT & plentiful! They check with you to see if everything is to your liking & if you needed more to drink..Krause's is very clean, including the rest rooms.We usually have breakfast on Sunday mornings...and we always try to be there by 8:00 am because around 8:15, there is a stream of people walking in the front and back door...We are very pleased at KRAUSE'S! Both quality of food and service are unforgivably bad. Servers are trained horribly. They do not know the (very basic, overly simple) menu. Not only do they not properly wear masks, they eschew and ignore basic health code mandates such as NOT using cups as ice scoops, and will visibly refill other patrons' cups at the soda fountain with their straws still in it. In the time of COVID, it is dangerous, unacceptable and deeply disturbing. Gross. read more

A good small town place, Indiana PA seems to be very supportive of family businesses. I ordered the hash browns and was hoping for the usual loose potatoes but it was the fried formed type.
