Cannery Ballroom is part of a three venue building which includes Mercy Lounge and The High Watt. I will start by saying that entry into the venue was one of the easiest concert entries I have ever experienced. It starts outside and since there are multiple venues, many times with acts going on at the same time, they ask you outside what venue and then direct you to the line for that particular space. They have several folks at the door to check ID's, COVID status and to scan tickets. They are all friendly and efficient. When you enter, Cannery Ballroom is to the left. You walk through an open room where the merch tables are usually set up. This did create a back-up of folks as the line grew for merch, which began to block folks who wanted to go straight into the ballroom. The Ballroom is a large open space with the lights/sound tea set in the back and surrounding by barriers, then to the right of the entry you have a large bar and in the center of the back wall you have the stage! On the site it stated that Cannery Ballroom has standing capacity of 1,000 and honestly, that is terrifying to think about in that space! It is a decent sized space that is laid out quite well, but 1,000 folks seems like a lot of folks in that room! I am sure it happens without issue, but I am not sure if that is the show I want to be at! There were a few things that I was really impressed with at Cannery Ballroom. They are... - Bartenders - The Bartenders were not only friendly, but they were efficient! I had the pleasure of visiting two through out the evening and both were on points with everyone. They took multiple orders at one time, rang folks up, rang folks out, made drinks, answered questions and ensured no one went thirsty and did it all with a great attitude! - View of the stage - Not a bad "seat" in the house! You have a great view to the stage from anywhere in the room. Only thing that would be an issue is if you get stuck behind one the beams in the back or behind that pesky tall person! - Entry - As mentioned above, the entrance process was super easy, efficient and hassle free! - Service - From the door folks to the bartenders and random staff wondering around, everyone was super nice and helpful. On the flip side, the list of things that were less than stellar was short, the only things that really stuck out where the merch table location and the fact that the AC was not running during the show and it was HOT! This is another reason why I would not want to be part of that 1,000 person crowd. It was already hot in the ballroom and I could not imagine a few hundred more folks and the heat generated! Overall, Cannery Ballroom was a fantastic spot for a concert! We really enjoyed ourselves from entry to exit! We are excited to catch many more shows not only here, but at the two other spots in the building! read more

Surprisingly a really nice concert venue! Ive never been here before last night, 11/3. Supposedly, the ballroom can hold 500 people when I Googled it and I felt like that would be a REALLY tight fit, but nonetheless it's built to where you can see a good view of the stage from anywhere you stand. Saw 100 Gecs in concert and it was of course standing room only. Super energetic place to have a concert and perfect for "smaller" concerts like these, but also big enough to have a mosh pit. read more

I can't say enough bad things about this venue. This is not for you if you are expecting seats, personal space, or an enjoyable performance. I thought I had read they had limited seating, that is not the case. They will provide a bar stool you have to put at the side of the room if you need ADA accommodations. Very bad mistake thinking I'd enjoy a James Arthur concert during my Nashville trip. They line everyone up outside for an hour before letting them in. Then there's a small fenced off drink area, but you can't take your beverage outside of the fence. By the time everyone had piled in the room, we were near suffocating and basically on top of everyone around us. We waited an hour for the opener to come on, and then an additional hour and 45 minutes for James Arthur to come out. By that time, we were ready to leave as was everyone else around us. I've been here many times. I saw Mat Kearney, Paolo Nutini, Crystal Castles, etc. and they bring in lots of great bands all the time. The place looks pretty nice in general but the design isn't really good. It's oddly shaped, like an L, so much of the crowd is off to the side. Then there are the poles all over the place that obstruct the crowd's views. They also need to put steps/levels so that people in the back can see over everyone that's nearer to the front. There are always some tall guys that get in everyone's way, that's guaranteed. A lot of good bands come here so the place is always packed tight. That's a big problem because apparently they don't believe in using air conditioning. By the time the main band comes on to play, the place feels like a sauna! If they just turned on the ceiling fans to circulate the air I don't think it would be as bad, but they don't. I give this an ok review simply because they have good bands. If they simply fixed a few of the aforementioned things the place would be great. read more

My thoughts on the Cannery Ballroom echo my thoughts on Mercy Lounge pretty much verbatim (they are in the same building after all). I feel like the room near the stage is a bit freer in the Cannery than in Mercy but it's been awhile since I've seen a show at Mercy to know if that's actually true or not. Anyway, for the Cannery as a music venue: I see a lot of reviews complaining about the drinking area being roped off to a tiny space? I've been to several shows, most recently in November 2017, and this has never been the case. Of course they've been 18+ shows but they stamp you if you're 21 and up and you can go wherever you like with your drink. Maybe at shows where there are very young attendees it's different? I thought this was a bar and all shows were 18+ but I could be wrong. PROS: *Good size for working bands and artists to headline (not the kind who play the stadiums--we're talking about up and coming, used to be, niche, cult, local, underground, etc.). You can see the show from pretty much anywhere in the room and navigate your way to the front if you wish fairly easily. *Easy parking--get there early and park for free on site, get there a bit later and park in a pay lot connected to the main lot for only $5 which is not bad at all by Nashville standards *Easy bar navigation--they will greet you, serve you, etc. pretty quickly *If you're a smoker there's an easily accessible deck and they let you in and out with no hassle. If you're not a smoker that deck is far enough away from everything that nothing drifts back in CONS: *Acoustics at Cannery (and Mercy) leave a bit to be desired as everything gets 2x louder than it needs to be as it echoes off of every stone and brick surface area. WEAR EAR PLUGS! If it's a particularly loud act try and stand midway back from the stage. On my most recent visit the opening acts sounded great but I moved to the front for the headliner and it was deafening. That in some ways was simply due to the nature of the band and the music they played but better acoustics would've softened it enough to hear the range of the performance a bit better. I overheard someone on my way out telling their friend "you never stand too close to the front, always half back and the sound's better". Maybe for this place but I've been in several venues where you can stand right by the stage or at the very back and whether the loudest of metal or the softest of folk music if the acoustics are right it'll sound great wherever you are. *Drink prices and selection: while not as bad as Bridgestone or the Ryman, the FAQ on their website is a bit misleading when it claims "drinks start at $3 and go up". I ordered my share of different beers and drinks and nothing was $3--not even PBR or Miller Hi-LIfe. There were no (or few b/c I didn't see them) craft or import beer options so if you're a beer drinker it's standard mass produced American beers for 5 bucks a pop. *Entrance procedure: it's odd. You get here and park but if you walk to the door to line up they direct you outside of the gates and down the sidewalk then march you in field trip style once gates are open. That's about it. I'd see another show here if it's the right act but this iisn't my favorite place to see a band in Nashville by any means. read more

I've seen a handful of shows here. The staff is always wonderful, from the box office to the security. Depending on when you get there, parking can be pretty easy. If you're there just before the show starts, don't bother with the parking lot. Drinks are reasonably priced and they have a great pop up burger joint out front called Boutique Burgers. If you're in town visiting try and catch a show at any of the venues attached to it. You won't be disappointed. read more

Parking was very close to the building and only 5$. Security was fine. They did their job. They offer canned beer inside. Bathrooms are clean. I like not having seats, yet I think I'm getting to old not to have seats, if that makes sense. My feet started hurting towards the end. It also became very apparent to me that all those times I pretended to be looking for someone at the front....no one fell for it. Being 5'1", that got old real quick last night. I recommend locking arms with your party and ignore them and their excuses about why they need to cut in front of you. But the group that did it to us got kicked out for lighting up. Just because someone sings about weed, doesn't mean you can light it up right in front of security, dumb@$$es. So, seeing karma served on a plate right in front of you is always fun. Went here on a Tuesday night to see Joe Jonas and DNCE, first visit ever. We did have to wait in line as others mention but it didn't take that long at all. Inside is just an open space. It's essentially a contest of who is the rudest person in the room. People shoving and stepping on you trying to get closer to the stage. If someone tall is in front of you, too bad, you can't see at all. And yes, it was hot. But my biggest grievance is that there was a tiny section carved out by the bar for 21+. Corralled into about 1/8th of the venue, we had to stay over there to drink. Luckily for us, this is where the giant poles are located. Was this just a thing for DNCE? The 21+ area was PACKED. I'll start by saying that Cannery Ballroom might not be the most ideal concert venue for everyone. There is no seating so be prepared to stand for 2+ hours. I think that's the most important thing to know. The Cannery Ballroom is in the same building as The Mercy Lounge and the High Watt. Since there are multiple venues, they will ask you out front which concert you are there to see and point you in the right direction. Parking isn't bad if you get there early enough. There is a smaller lot with free parking and then a bigger lot for $5. I believe it's cash only but we were lucky enough to get a free spot. We were there Halloween night to see Ghostland Observatory so I figured it would be pretty busy. We arrived at about 8:45 for a 9:00 show. Check-in was super easy. A security guard did a metal detector test and looked inside my purse. Inside, a person scanned my mobile tickets on my phone and we were in. The Cannery Ballroom is one big room. Right when you walk in, the bathrooms are to the right in a separate area. The bar is also to the right and is pretty big. They had about 8 different options for beer and then also mixed drinks. Beers were $5-7 and I believe they were all tall boys. Not bad for a concert venue. The stage was in the front right corner but can be seen from anywhere in the room...I think. It might be hard to see when the room gets really packed. The room wasn't too busy yet so we were able to get right up front. I'm not sure if this was the best choice. The sound was really loud. I know concerts are loud, but this just seemed unnecessarily loud. The building is brick so I'm guessing it has something to do with the acoustics. The crowd was of course pushy and packed but that's what you can expect with GA standing rooms. Like some of the other reviews have mentioned, it gets really warm in this place. I mean this was October and once the show really got started, it was pretty hot. I had a t-shirt and jeans on and was uncomfortable. I could see the singer was just dripping in sweat. I don't think I would come to a concert here in summer. But I'm also a person that doesn't like the heat. The tickets were a good price compared to other venues in Nashville. It's nice that you can get right up to the stage if you don't mind how loud the sound is. Standing in the middle of the room might get you better sound but then you don't get as good of view of the stage. Overall, it was a fun night and a nice venue. We were here for a recent wedding and the staff and wedding was absolutely wonderful. The staff was kind, courteous, attentive, and all around wonderful. They had the bride and groom in mind while also keeping track of every other guest in the whole building. I'm always disappointed when shows book at Cannery, though I know that sometimes it's the only space large enough to accommodate. It's just a big concrete hole. The stage is in a corner inaccessible by half the room. The only seating is in that little back area cut off from everything except the view of the bathroom line. If you come to see a show here I hope you're not a smoker because you have to leave the venue entirely to light up which means no bringing your drinks or hearing any of what is going on inside. The only concerts that seem to really fit here are the dance party types like the upcoming Girl Talk show (buy your tickets!). They keep your energy up enough that you don't mind the lack of seating. You don't miss much when you can't see a DJ so it's less annoying to get stuck on the side of behind one of the many large poles. read more

Great venue for being close to the stage and being near your artists. Some confusing and conflicting information from staff made our visit awkward at first. Don't know if it was because of outside temperature being near 100 degrees, high energy of a heavy metal band, or the fact there were so many people there; but it seriously needed another 10 to 20 tons of air conditioning. It was a Stryper show we saw, not a whole lot of alcohol drinkers there, but others too were near dehydration after headbanging it out for 3+hours. If there had been better ventilation, it would get 7 stars. Loved the ambience the place had, great location, easy parking [free if there really early, we were there at 2 for an 8 pm show]. Staff helped us locate food within walking distance. Had a great time with the exception of nearly passing out from heat exhaustion. read more

The Cannery Ballroom is on Cannery Row and in the same building as the Mercy Lounge. They have a much larger capacity than the Mercy Lounge so they can host some bigger acts at this venue. The stage is kind of an awkward position out of sight from certain spots in the room. On one hand it can give you a reprieve from the music to stand back by the bar, but overall the room is still loud. I recently went to see the rock and roll fashion show put on by Naked Without Us. It was a pretty cool event with lots of hot ladies walking across the stage modeling the clothing lines while the bands were performing. It was a pretty stormy night though, and halfway through the show the power went out in the entire building! It was kinda crazy, but they recovered and the power was back in about 25 minutes or so, and the show carried on as planned. So, I would say the management knows how to run the place pretty smoothly because they were able to recover without much trouble. The bands performing at the cannery are usually pretty good name acts, so if there is a band you like coming through, it's not too bad, just hope they don't sell out, so you can get a spot in view of the stage. read more

I bring earplugs to rock shows, but last night I saw The Wind and the Wave - basically mildly amped acoustic. The volume level was insane! My ears are still ringing. Butch Walker played a great set after, but I went around the corner and listened through layers of brick to enjoy it. This isn't Spinal Tap. No need to put everything on 11. Cannery is under the same management as the Mercy Lounge, and many people often try to classify the two spaces as just one venue. Don't listen to those people! While the Mercy Lounge is a spectacular medium-sized venue with great sound and a decent amount of room, Cannery is a poorly designed large venue that will lure you in with its superior acts and then break your heart with sub-par sound and a terribly located stage. There's a somewhat sneaky move that the owners of Mercy/Cannery often pull. They'll book big acts (like the Raconteurs, the Shins or Sharon Jones) for the Mercy Lounge, and when these shows sell out they'll be moved to the Cannery at the last minute. This may not bother some people, and others might not even realize they're being duped. Here's the problem, however: the Cannery Ballroom's stage is wedged awkwardly at the far end of the venue, quite literally facing a corner. They crowd typically tries to cram itself into the narrow area that is in a direct line of site with the stage, and about 10% of them are successful. The remainder of the audience is left to peer at the band from across the bar or a distant corner. The drink prices are the same as at the Mercy Lounge (pretty good), and the staff is the same. Aside from the building itself and the terrible acoustics, it's just like Mercy. I've just genuinely never been to a show at Cannery in which I haven't been behind a pillar, wedged into a corner or wondering why I can't hear the vocals or overheads. I'm afraid I have to skip most of the shows here, no matter how good the band. read more

They were very rude and did not seem to actually care about safety, but rather seeking out kids to bust and kick out because it made them feel powerful. The booking of some of my favorite bands in the coming months makes me appreciate Cannery from the get-go. Last night's Grace Potter and the Nocturnals w/Jonathan Tyler and the Northern Lights show was solid and with the Cold War Kids, Sleigh Bells, and The Kills coming up... legit stuff. Sure, is the layout a little wonky? Yes. Are they doing renovations this Summer to correct some of the issues and to freshen the space up a bit? Double yes. Maybe it's just me, but when I head out to a show, I expect a little grit and not a 5 star posh experience. Rock and roll baby. The Ryman, War Memorial, or Bridgestone all have the conveniences and higher ticket prices to accommodate all that, right? Tickets generally hover around $20 to catch a good show at Cannery. Drinks are reasonably priced hence my 2 doubles of vodka and water last night and a frivolous shot of tequila. Although the show was sold out last night, I was still able to retrieve my cocktails in a reasonable amount of time. No complaints there. Budget $5 for parking which is a snap due to the attached lot and surrounding lots. read more

The Cannery attracts some of the best shows and parties in town. The new layout is a vast improvement. I still prefer Mercy Lounge, but I no longer let out a sigh when heading to the Cannery. Bartenders are friendly and quick with the drinks. For a venue, the prices are reasonable, with the exception of soda. I attended an event at One event space at Cannery and had an amazing time. It is the third floor of the Cannery Ballroom. Pros: wide open space. Definitely room to play and host any type of event. There is a smaller room off to the side that can host a bar and some high top tables. There is an elevator and stairs to the venue. I don't know what the venue provides, but it appeared to have limited restrictions on decorations. Cons: there is no patio. Only a small stairwell for those who need some fresh air. There were several events also occurring that night throughout the building and the signage was terrible. The lines were a mess and we had no idea where to go. Overall, it was a great place to attend an event. I don't have knowledge of prices. I would suggest looking into it for an event. The capacity is 400! read more

The good things- abundant cheap parking, great bands come here, it's a large well-kept space, decent acoustics, reasonable prices. The bad- the stage layout. I come to a show to see the band. If I had just wanted to listen to the music, I would have stayed home. Since the stage is in the corner of the room, there are very few places in the venue where you can get a good view of the stage. Personally, I think Exit/In has a better stage set-up, even though it's older and more worn in than Cannery. Unless there's a band I really need to see, I'll try avoiding Cannery and go to other venues instead. read more

Cannery Ballroom is too cool! I cannot believe I haven't been here before. The venue lends itself to intimate concerts. We went there for Maren Morris' last concert of her Hero tour. It was awesome! I felt like I was right on stage with her. The acoustics in the room were great. I'd recommend making your way to the front if you are short because standing behind tall people stinks. Luckily I wore heels and It wasn't a problem. You will be standing the entire time, so wear comfortable heels/shoes. If you get hungry, there is a guy outside cooking delicious mini burgers and fries. The security will let you in/out once you have your hand stamped. There is also a full bar. The bartender was kind enough to make me a mocktail! It was delicious. The best part is the parking. I thought it would be horrid and we almost took an uber, but didn't. I immediately found a parking spot right out front and if that fills up there is $5 parking next to it...great deal for Nashville!! I can't wait to attend a future concert at Cannery Ballroom. read more

I love the Nashville music scene. Preferably the bands that play here and @ Mercy. I've seen the likes of Foster the People, Minus the Bear, and Chromeo, and they were all stellar! The energy in this venue vibes really well with the bands that perform there, as well as with the fans enjoying their music. The bartenders are also really great, and no matter how full the place is, I am always assured that I'll be handed a strong drink without losing my buzz from the previous one! Yeah, the place is L shaped- but I found it wasn't too difficult to get pretty close with a few pardon me's. And they were smoking inside- but it is a music venue. Those are the only bad things I would say about the place. We flew from Denver to see Grinderman play one of only 6 shows in North America and the Cannery has just the right soul to house such a performance. The bar was cool man, and the people too. You Nashville-types are a pretty cool lot- nice people, nice venue- and the pizza guy at the end of the night was spot on. No wonder the amazing Nick Cave and friends chose to rock the F*k outta this location- it was an intimate, cool setting and filled with great people. The Cannery Ballroom is the Mercy Lounge's, less cool younger sibling, the kind that can be a pretentious know it all who feels like they have something to prove because you've experienced everything before them. Although they're owned and run by the same people, and literally situated next door to each other, the Cannery lacks a lot of the atmosphere that makes the Mercy Lounge so fantastic. It is a much larger space, actually the only one if its size left in Nashville. It books bigger bands there, and a lot of times if shows at the Mercy Lounge sell out too quickly they'll transfer them over to the Cannery. The first reason the Cannery doesn't really do it for me is its layout. The stage is built kind of around a corner from the rest of the venue, so visibility to the stage isn't that great unless you're standing within 20 feet of it, which is also where everyone else wants to be. There's a huge amounted of space with everyone cramming into a small fraction of it so they can see the stage, and this makes for an evening of constantly jostling and fighting over the spot your feet are planted. The acoustics are alright, not the best sound in Nashville but not the worst. The bar is huge and it's usually pretty easy to grab a beer or a cocktail there, but it lacks the charm that the Mercy Lounge has. I tend to only visit the Cannery if it's a once in a lifetime performance going on there, or if I'd already bought a ticket to the Mercy Lounge before they transferred the show over (usually then I show up with a chip on my shoulder feeling like I've been tricked out of a good time). It's one of those places where you have to wait in long lines to get in, fight for your viewing spot, wait in longer lines for the bathroom and then fight to get out of the place when it's time to leave. If waiting and fighting don't factor into your idea of a great night out on the town then I'd skip this place. read more

This venue is alright. Far from my favorite place to see a show in Nashville. There's a huge line to get in, which seemed a little dramatic, but fine. That's cool. While in line, some red bull girls brought us free drinks which I liked, but when we got to the door, we were informed we would have to finish them or toss them before we came in. Again, I get it, but geez. I had literally just been handed the drink a few minutes before. Once inside, good luck. It just kind of is what it is. No place to sit. Just a big open room. Maybe I'm getting old. I probably would have preferred that in my 20s, but I felt like we didn't even know what to do with ourselves. We just sort of stood in the back the entire time, near the end of the bar. The sound wasn't great. It always seems weird to me when I'm at a venue in Nashville, TN and I feel like the sound could be a lot better. A little smelly in some areas of the venue but nothing a little Lysol and complimentary breath mints can't fix. It's a GREAT room for wedding receptions, events, etc because it is literally raw. Just an old building with lots of floor space and brick. The Cannery Ballroom gets great shows. That's hard to deny. And the prices are good--both in terms of tickets and not unreasonable at the bar. People complain that the stage is in the corner, but I personally don't think it matters (There are bad seats (aka those to the side) when the stage is in the middle of a rectangular room too). Went there last night for the first time to see Smith and Myers and I thought the place was the worst small venue I've been to downtown Nashville. No circulation of air throughout the place made for everyone around my wife and I sweating our asses off. Level of the floor to the stage left viewing at a minimum. People at the bar ignore you. I went to a sold-out show here recently and maybe it's cool if it's not packed to the gills but it was and it sucked. The sound isn't that good, the stage isn't high enough for us short folks and the layout is horrible. If you actually want to drink or use the bathroom you have to stand on the right side otherwise it will take 30 min. to get across the sea of people. The bar is super long and big so getting drinks wasn't that big of a problem and I really did like the little seating area behind the bar. However the bathroom was super small for such a venue and lots of empty space around it that they should look into expanding the bathroom in. I guess I expected more from a Nashville music venue. read more
