Went to Marathon Music Works for the WhiskeyX event in Nashville. The event was very well setup thanks to the venue itself, the vendors and event setup. The venue itself is very large. For the event that night they had a few food truck vendors off their large back patio. You could also see they had a few bars setup built in for events but most of the vendors for WhiskeyX had their own booths setup. Right next door to the Nelson Green Briar Distillery. read more

Marathon Music Works transitioned from an automotive factory formally known as Marathon Motor Works to one of Nashville's premier concert and event venues. Saturday night this warehouse transformed into a beautiful formal awards ceremony with a DJ, sound stage, servers that passed around Hors D'oeuvres, adequate seating, large projector screens for easy viewing of the stage, buffet, and open bar. The downside was the immense amount of blue and red lighting that made many cell phone photos dark and created a blue hue on clothes and faces. There was a line for the women's restroom because two of the five stalls were out of order. Street parking is available as well as; a private pay lot. Overall MMW is a nice spacious venue that is in an ideal location near the interstate and downtown Nashville, has attentive staff, and plenty of parking. read more

Visited this venue to see Ari Lennox and we had a blast. Standing room only. Reasonable presale ticket prices. The venue was a nice size and fit a large amount of people. We stayed within walking distance, so I cannot truly comment on parking. A lot of people got dropped off from what I could see, but I'm sure there were others that drove and parked near by. There was a bar when you first walk in before getting into the main room. There was food (Daddy's Dogs), but we didn't try any. Overall, friendly staff and a great time. read more

Went for the first time last night for a Jeremy Zucker concert. For such an intimate venue, I really loved it. Bars are conveniently set up on both sides of the building, unlike other venues where there's usually just one. The bartenders were super friendly and didn't keep you waiting in any lines. Not a bad sight line in the building, either. You could be standing on the back wall and feel like you're close to the artist and right there in the action. The restrooms were kept pretty clean too, which can be rare to find and concert venues. read more

I've been listening/dancing my way across all of Nashville's music venues and Marathon Music Works is a fun one. There are a lot of indie artists who play here so don't expect to see T-Swift playing at Marathon. MMW is part of the Marathon Village which is a collection of businesses all housed under the same former Motor Works warehouses which built cars at the turn of the 20th century. The venue itself is quite large. There is a big bar area when you first walk in with tables and restrooms. It's a good lobby/waiting area if you want to hang before/after/during a concert. They setup merch tables off to the right of the stage. If you get claustrophobic due to large crowds it's okay there's plenty of space. There is no seating area though which is the only downside to this venue.I saw Taking Back Sunday here, fulfilling a long ago wish of a teenage self. They were lively and the atmosphere was perfect for them. As far as parking, there are a few pay lots but then some street parking if you are willing to walk a few blocks. I would definitely see another show here. Security was efficient, the bartenders were nice and most importantly the band was great and the stage was easy to see them. read more

Saw Rise Against here and it was amazing! Seemed well organized and safe. Appreciated the friendly security check and got in quickly. The food and drink seemed readily accessible and where you could still see the stage. I had a great spot upfront and decided to skip getting a drink so I could keep it. They announced before the first act to watch your neighbors, how to signal for help, and that they'd hand out water bottles periodically. That was really nice since I was there alone and small. I was a little worried I'd be crushed or trampled up front. They had enough water for anyone who reached for it. read more

I wasn't sure how I would feel about this venue being as though I don't usually buy general admission concert tickets but I had a positive experience here. Got presale tickets to see Carly Pearce's 29 Tour and her management reached out to me shortly after and invited me to the dress rehearsal as a thank you. This venue treated me well - entry was very organized and free pizza was provided to those at the rehearsal. With my wristband they let me leave and come back while cutting the line which was great. Staff were nice too. I got to stand front row and I had an amazing time! read more

We love going to concerts here! The sound system and lights are always spectacular! You get to get up close to the artist and that's so special. Plus the restrooms are always clean! The prices for tickets are usually pretty reasonable too, and the drinks aren't too bad for Nashville. There is room to dance as well. Plus there is a good amount of free street parking if you know where to look! The permeant daddy dogs inside is a great element too. They always taste great and are reasonably priced. I would leave zero stars if I could. Went there Friday night and doors were supposed to be open at 6:30pm. Instead they had us wait outside like rotisserie chickens in the hot weather for close to an hour after doors were supposed to open. The security was a joke, only two dude looked big enough to handle a problem and they were very rude and yelling at people. The rest of the security was completely disorganized. After getting inside, they had two full bars but not a single bottle water available, only warm tap water. Apparently that's how they make their money by forcing adults into dehydration and only giving them the ability to quench their thirst by spending too much on alcohol. The chairs were nasty, couldn't tell if some of them had been defecated on prior. At the end, the security was again angrily yelling at all the guests to get in line for autographs or "Get the f out" if you don't have an orange wristband for autographs. When we lined up for autographs, they yelled at us more and funneled us into an even smaller room with no chairs while we waited yet another hour. The comedians even included the venue as part of their jokes because it was so bad. Will never go again, please close your location because this would scare away tourists for sure. read more

They force you to leave your vape in the car (at least everyone except the 30 or so they decided to let in) despite having a smoking area? I hadn't been here before, but was excited for this concert. I love the outside of this venue and the inside where the shops are. The venue is open with a little separation for one of the bars. I had a blast at this concert. Like most concerts of this sort, a mosh pit will likely occur. My luck, it was behind me... so I chose to walk away. There was plenty of room at the back of the venue to continue to watch and listen to the last songs. read more

This music venue is very well managed and maintained. It is a cleaner air conditioned venue, with kind bartenders, kind ticket associates, great sound, and awesome bathroom attendants. I would suggest an evaluation of the security practices in place. Currently, after the show is over, they move everyone right outside. I completely understand this so they can close but I wanted to wait inside the doors for my Uber since it's dark outside after a show and not in a great area so I thought waiting inside is safer but I was told to exit onto the sidewalk in the dark. A suggestion would be to have a more lit area where people could wait for an Uber with maybe one security guard stationed there for attendee safety. Overall great experience and will be back! read more

I went to my first concert here recently and loved the venue. It's big enough to accommodate a large crowd but has a small and cozy feeling. They have multiple nice, large full bars and then a nicer lounge in the back that has even more wine and liquor. Bathrooms and entire place was clean and they have food too. read more

Attended "WHISKEY X" last night! Had VIP tickets to this massive tasting of fine liquor. It was truly enjoyable and well planned. The venue was clean, orderly and totally enjoyable. The liquor companies represented served up wonderful tastings complete with mixed drinks too. Food trucks were on site for food service and cigars were also handed out in the house too. On-site barber complete with facials was a wonderful touch. The band and music throughout was great too. Great time had by all! read more

I purchased tickets for my husband and I, as an anniversary gift. The venue looks great and parking wasn't awful. They actually have food, which is nice. The main reason I give it 2 stars is the acoustics. The entire room has so much metal in it that there's a constant ringing. There are absolutely no sound cushions (that I could see). I couldn't hear or understand around 80%of the lyrics. Perhaps this wasn't meant to be a musical venue on conception? The reason you go to see a performing musical artist is for the music, right? But when you can't hear the music and there's a ringing in your ears, it puts a damper on the evening. Overall: would go back for a comedy show. read more

Horribly organized venue. We paid for VIP, but stood in line in the heat for 30 mins anyway because no one knew what they were doing. No seating available anywhere except in VIP bar which doesn't allow our minor kids (our kids are 16&17 - it's not like we would have 4 yr olds running around. Drove 3 hours to get here- will never do it again. One good thing to say, their staff on the inside rocks (bartenders, restroom attendants, etc.) Very friendly and customer oriented. Maybe they should find these type folks to handle the initial venue customer contact. Just a thought. read more

I think this is the largest music venue I've been to since moving to Nashville (besides Ascend, but Marathon will most likely be a much more regular thing, with Ascend being a once-a-Summer-maybe venue). Nice open space, warehouse-like, with a high stage, providing good sight lines from pretty much anywhere. Now, the show I was at was far from crowded, which definitely added to my experience, but the bars on either end of the venue with seating are a definite plus. The people working ticketing seemed to be having a bit of a difficult time despite the lack of crowd. Well kept, inviting, maybe a little heavy on the fog machine, but maybe that was because it's so close to Halloween. Either way, pretty decent venue that I would not mind visiting again. (Parking is kind of a pain around the area, but that's not a strike against them). read more

Denied entry because of a nicotine vape. I had a disposable and when asked to throw it away I oblige, but was then not allowed entry into the venue. Security also likes to get very aggressive and hands on. Been to many concerts here but will likely not attend more or recommend to go. I attend Ethos Church here on Sundays. The huge, expansive venue fits a generous, large-to-medium sized crowd, with a modest stage space. For a mostly music venue, their bathrooms are always quite clean as well. If you're going for concerts, they have a decent bar, though I've never been here when it's active. Structurally, I love how you can see just a bit of blue sky peeking out of side windows on the industrial, high ceilings every Sunday morning. The natural lighting also compliments the space well, given the overwhelmingly industrial feel. I would say a minimalist triumph in concert and venue spaces. read more

I recently visited from Michigan to see Clutch in concert at this venue. I found this to be a pretty good venue to see a concert. It's basically a converted warehouse in an old industrial district. There is ample street parking near the venue and we had no trouble finding a spot. Security was fairly thorough, but also reasonably chill. We did get to the venue on the early side (the doors typically open about an hour before the concert starts.) They do have a coat-check, but I left mine in the car so I wouldn't have to bother with it. There is a fairly large bar in the entrance area so you have have a drink while you wait for the main area to open. You can either get a general admission ticket or you can pay a bit more to get a seat in the "Lux Loft", which is a raised area on the side of the stage. It has a good view as well as a separate, private bar and bathroom area. On the main floor, there are two general bar areas and the public restrooms (which have bathroom attendants...) There is also a taco stand that basically sells tacos or nachos (chicken or veggie.) The tacos were not too bad, although one of the taco stand employees was pretty rude (she seemed irritated to be working that night.) The concert experience was not bad, but I felt they were a little heavy-handed with the smoke machine. Also, the acoustics were not the best despite them turning the volume up to 11 - and you know there's an issue when you can barely hear Neil Fallon's vocals, since that guy's a vocal powerhouse. The security had to break up one little scuffle on the main floor, but it was resolved efficiently. All in all, it was a really enjoyable night and I would definitely see another concert here. read more

What a freaking awesome space! Holy cow, Marathon Music Works has filled a void, now let's book that sucker up! MMW if you are reading this I would like more hip hop, soul and reggae (Example: Blackstar, Roots, Raphael Saadiq, Santigold, Nikka Costa, Eek-A-Mouse, etc) to come through Nashville and mid-sized Indie bands (example: The Gossip) and larger bands who want to play in a more intimate venue (example: Green Day, Beck, etc). I went on Saturday for the Porter Flea Market so I can't speak to their sound system but the space was truly pretty incredible. I love the factory feel but with modern cleanliness. I love the stage height and placement. I love the bar situation. I love the bathroom locations. Yep, me likes. Thank god! I hope to never stand behind a pole at the Cannery ever again, EVER! I've been to most if not yet all live music venues in Nashville and though some have perks that surpass Marathon and are better suited for specific needs, Marathon may be my overall favorite venue all things considered in the Nashville area. It's basically an old converted warehouse so it's just a huge open floor area but for a rock show it's the best option as long as you stake out the spot you want to be in. However, I have found depending on the show and the audience you often can leave for drinks or a bathroom run and still navigate your way back to your approximate spot. I will say that if it's a sold out show particularly if its an energetic band it can get tight, full and sweaty! Drink prices are fair. There's very little actual food or drink (other than coffee) within walking distance of this place though so it's not the best venue to eat or pregame prior to a show and though it probably isn't directly associated with the venue there is a huge parking area directly across the street that is directed in and out for only $5 which makes this the easiest venue to catch a show at in the area regardless of what night of the week it is. So, 3rd & Lindsey is better for a smaller audience if you want a meal and a relaxed experience, Exit/In and the End may get a little messier and active and the Ryman might be secular church but for just convenience and steady quality of acts Marathon gets the slight edge. read more

First of all, I love Marathon as a music venue. Just got back tonight (loved the show), but I have to add that the bartender was serving fake cocktails. I ordered a double gin and tonic, and there was zero alcohol in it- just soda water. I confronted the bartender about it, and he apologized profusely before pouring me the same non-alcoholic drink. Water and gin taste VERY different. I didn't make a deal of it, but you might get taken for a ride and pay a big bill for nothing if you choose to drink at this establishment. read more

Attended the Yacht Rock Review show on Aug 13, 2021. As required by the venue, we both had our proof of vaccination with us. This is where the problem starts with this process: We were scanned by metal detectors 1st and then asked to show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test. This really should have been done in reverse. Being that my girlfriends last dose of the vaccine was before the 14 day period as required, she chose to obtain a test. After being scanned by security, the guy asked to see my ID and not my girlfriends. He didn't even look at mine and then asked for proof. My girlfriend opened her purse to pull out the cards and proof. The guy didn't want to wait, so he reached into her purse to pull out the cards and test. Furthermore, he didn't even look at the paperwork to see if they matched my ID. I expressed my concern with him of how he acted. He didn't seem concerned nonetheless. We proceeded to the doors and I expressed my concern over the issue with another person, which was also met with no concern. Inside, I then met a 3rd person and expressed my concern of the issue. This was met with an "I'm sorry". Several messages on Facebook were returned only with an email to send my issue to. This email obviously isn't checked, being that we are 1 week post-incident and no reply. MMW puts forth these requirements to enter it's venue, however the "processes" in place are pathetic. If you are going to require patrons to jump through all the hoops to gain admittance to the venue, do the responsible thing. read more

Last night was one of the most mortifying experiences of my entire life. My review is not a reflection of the venue, as much as it is the staff operating. While waiting in the women's bathroom line, which for the entirety of the night was a consistent stream of 20 women at a time, I decided to take it upon myself to enter the men's bathroom as an alternative. There was no line, there were also no men occupying the bathroom. I understand fully that this, unfortunately for me was against marathons policy. There was no security guard present outside of the bathroom, I was never told or asked not to enter the bathroom. While inside, I was grabbed by a female security guard, so forcibly that it truly startled me. As she screamed "OUT,NOW" in my face, over and over she began to push me toward the door. I did not resist, I did not argue, I calmly told her "I am not intoxicated, I am not resisting you, can you please let go of my arm" to which she responded "No, you're out!!!" And continued to use force. I am thankful for the male security guard who intervened while barring witness to the aggression of the female security guard. He calmly and kindly asked me, "are you ok? I need to escort you out now". Allowed me to walk ahead of him, unguided, without force and with dignity. I am a professional, I understand that I violated marathons bathroom policy. I accept consequences for my actions. In absolutely NO way do I understand why I was treated like a belligerent, violent, or resistive person. She did not ask me a single question before putting her hands on my body and pushing me forward, toward the exit. There is no excuse for her behavior. I can not emphasize enough how deeply embarrassed and threatened I felt in this situation. The purpose of this review, is to shed light on security procedure. Questions should be asked, or statements should be made before using force. In no way did she attempt to mitigate the situation. In no way did she try to understand why I was using the men's restroom. She did not ask me to exit. She did not ask me to leave the venue. Her immediate, and only reaction was to use force. If her role last night was to prevent women from entering the men's restroom, she took it upon herself to trap them rather than redirect them. She took pleasure in using excess force. She enjoyed kicking women out of the venue. I hope that this review falls into the hands of someone who can make sure this behavior does not continue, and implements a strategy to prevent this from happening to others. There were several women outside who experienced something similar to my situation. It was not OK. read more

We arrived before doors opened for a show and the venue bar had BOGO draft beers which was awesome. They have quick bar service and a taco stand inside in case you need a bite to eat. We went to a pretty chill show but a small group of people decided this was a punk/mosh pit kind of show. They were moshing around, throwing beer on people, falling down, etc. Security was nowhere to be found. I tried talking to security and they were not interested in hearing from patrons. Pretty disappointing after we traveled 3 hours to attend. Aside from the vibe, the sound, service, and bars were good. read more

What an awesome place to see a show! My first show at marathon was a sold out James Bay show. The line went fast to get in, and it was very easy to get drinks. The bartenders are very friendly even during loud shows! The second show I saw was Jamie XX! Much different crowd than James Bay but an even better experience. It was the perfect venue for Jamie XX! Bathrooms were clean and the set up for the stage is perfect for viewing all around. I won't skip an opportunity to see my favorite artists here. read more

If a concert is standing room only and I move forward to fill the gap, I shouldn't be threatened by a staff member that I will get kicked out. I've attached photos of the space I tried to stand in, and the guy that threatened to kick me out of the concert for standing in that space. All of the amenities are situated against the walls of this giant empty room. The stage and the fans end up being in the approximate middle of this room, between four steel pillars. Inside those four pillars, there is barely passable sound reinforcement quality. If the crowd is large enough to crowd outside of those four pillars, those outside of that square area will experience sound quality that is atrocious. The rules and policies of this venue are apparently to treat all patrons like unruly criminals. It's almost as though the management is implementing unwarranted sports arena/stadium policies and attitudes among it's staff. I have attended one show here and will NEVER attend another at this venue. My experience was of a fairly innocuous nature, but was generally unpleasant, and certainly not enjoyable. Many of my friends have attended other shows at MMW and had even worse experiences. DONT GO HERE! read more

I attended "Boolesque" on October 19, 2013. I was very excited to see the show and arrived at 7:45pm for an 8pm "door open" time. The line was already over a block long. Doors didn't open till 8:15 and it was 45 degrees outside. After getting inside the venue, we realized there were no chairs left. They only had 50 - 75 chairs set up, and easily sold about 250-300 tickets. We stood on a concrete floor, I in heels, waiting for the show to start at 9pm. By the time the show started, my feet and back were already sore...and, many people were standing and straining to see. I'd say I was unable to see about 90% of the show, and that was after moving to different locations in the venue trying to get a better view. When you purchase tickets, it says nothing about limited seating. Nothing. What makes this worse is when I left a review on their facebook page, they were very rude and made me out to be an idiot. They pointed out that it says on their FAQ page that it is standing room only. Well, who looks at the FAQ page unless they have questions? And since nothing was mentioned at the ticket purchase point about seating or standing room only...I had no reason to check the FAQ page. Furthermore, after they ridiculed me on their facebook page for daring to leave a negative review...several other people backed me up in comments...however Marathon Music Works deleted every single comment after supporters started showing up. Very disappointed in their customer service. Will not be going back, and will definitely make sure word gets out about this place. read more
