This is probably one of the more affordable places around the Cannery Row area. It's this cute little building away from the main streets and service is friendly. Both my husband and I got sandwiches which we thought tasted alright. I also noticed that they had some produce like fruits and vegetables for sale, too. We really just appreciated finding a quietier, more affordable place in the Monterey Bay Area when we visited for a day trip from the South Bay. This has nothing to do with the service, the gentleman who I believe is also the owner was super sweet and welcoming. He was quick to greet us when we walked up, offered some menus and was patient with us when we were ordering. 5 stars for him. However, the food itself; not so great. We spent over $32 dollars for two sandwiches! No sides, no drinks. Just the sandwiches. We both ordered the Reuben, something "off" to me was they offered them with lettuce and tomato. Never have I heard of a Reuben that came with these, so I took them off, Jess opted to keep it the way it is. They put garden salad mix instead of actual lettuce. There were strings of carrot inside of her sandwich. What!? The meat itself 1. Didn't look like pastrami or even corned beef. It looked like roast beef half cooked on the grill. Some of the meat was browned, the other half was pink. One side was warm, the other was cold. Jess couldn't even finish her sandwich. I was too hungry at the time to care, so I ate mine. We loved this place when we first came here 6 years ago. It was the highlight of the trip. They had a wonderful ambiance, still do. Really small but a great mom and pop looking spot right near cannery row. What happened? No more Croque Monsieur "Jess's Favorite l!" The whole reason we came back to eat here in the first place. I partly blame ourselves for staying instead of opting to go somewhere else. But being close enough to our hotel, we were hungry in the moment, anything would've sounded good. Especially since we love Reubens, it sounded amazing! It really wasn't! Unfortunately I think this will be our last time coming here. I refuse to pay over $30 for two sandwiches when we could've gone anywhere else and paid the same price for "somewhat" better food. Noticing a running theme in the area like a theme park. This deli is hidden but it was super close to the Monterey Plaza Hotel and someone had mentioned they had lunch here. There are menus and then you can order when you know what you want but the area is cramped. There is also a lot of mismatched decor and TVs and mostly outdoor seating. I was in line to order but went to get a bottled drink and someone cut me in line. The line is very unclear. I ordered the breakfast and it came out hot but my favorite part was the English muffin, perfectly toasted. Cannery Row Deli in Monterey is a gastronomic destination for a totally enjoyable meal. My husband had their Ruben; pastrami, Swiss cheese, and sauerkraut. I had the tuna salad without raw onions. Our food was delicious. José, the head manager, took our order. Jessica brought us our food when we sat outside in proximity of our unlocked e-bikes. We returned the next day and ordered the same lunch. We sat inside and it was like being in a museum in Mexico, such a rich cultural display of artwork. There was a young Freda Kahlo on the wall and the "Flower Seller" painting by Diego Rivera on another wall. There was also a sign in Spanish, "Dios bendiga este negocio" which in English means, "God bless this business." Isidro, Maggi, and Gerardo worked in the kitchen. They are such a wholesome and refined crew who worked seamlessly together. I hope that this one review brings them all the business that they can surely handle! In the meantime enjoy my photos. Amazing spot for casual lunch. Indoor seating is very limited but there's tons of beautiful outdoor seating right next to the bike path/walkway. Outdoors is shaded with a fun natural design. We went here when we arrived at Monterey since it's basically across the street from the IHG Express hotel. We tried to go to another spot first but the wait was 45 minutes and this place was practically empty. My wife and I got the breakfast burrito while my son got the cheese pizza. The breakfast burrito was pretty much flavorless. And the cheese pizza tasted like something you would just make quickly at home. So, I would say for the food, it's pretty much 1 star. I'm adding a star because they have a cute seating area that's a bit charming. However, we definitely would not come back again. Oh, and service was mediocre. The pic I posted is only half because I kept tossing it into the bag thinking it was a bad piece but then realized that was the protein. My friends and I stopped by this deli really quick so we could stop by the beach and eat it there after! It's a quite small place on the inside but the seating area on the outside was soooooo cute and gave me such cozy vibes! I don't know how to explain it but it was cute because there were cute trinkets everywhere and pictures of family around! It looks like it's family owned and the owners were sooo sweet and cute! Hankering for a sandwich, I came across this seemingly hidden little gem found at the end of Cannery Row. Ordered the "Mediterranean" whch was tuna, cukes, amazing fresh red tomatoes... essentially all of things (based on the printed menu) except olives. Where are the olives?! Did I only get a couple and in my eating savagery miss them?! Or were they just not there and I didn't know it?! We'll never know... Otherwise this was just a tasty tuna sandwich. The cashier suggested sliced sourdough, which was a good call. Within minutes of ordering and taking my seat, my sandwich was delivered to my table, along with napkins and a tray of condiments. Kind employee. Not much to the ambiance or food. I paid about $20 for the sandwich and chips. The sandwich was a BBQ chicken sandwich. First thing I noticed was that the chicken was microwaved. I think the lettuce and pickle really offset the smoky zest of the sandwhich. I would recommend adjusting the menu to swap the lettuce with grilled onions and melted cheese. I've always loved the aesthetic and location of this cafe. It looks like the cafe is facing the coastal trial, and the cafe looks like it's hidden away in the forest. Like I've said, the cafe is right off of the coastal trail bike path, so if you're walking to of from the Cannery Row area, it's a great stop to get snacks. They have drinks, chips, a deli, etc. As for the deli food itself, I ordered the breakfast burrito and asked to have the Morningstar sausage added. I was excited to see that this place had this option. I know what that is supposed to taste like, because we use it all of the time at home. The burrito comes with eggs, potatoes and cheese. Unfortunately, it was very bland. The salsa that came with the burrito was also bland, but spicy. The tortilla is huge and has a homemade taste.
