We tried to call and see what we need to do to get one of these sandwiches. This little sandwich shop is so good! We came twice on our 4 day/3 night stay in Monterey. Their breakfast burritos are delicious! I didn't get pictures of the breakfast burritos because we were on the go and I ate while driving. The Jaws sandwich is amazing. Get it! The bread is so good with the meats. Service is friendly. The cooks are so nice. The cashier gifted us two deviled eggs because we had a friendly chat with the staff about Monterey, Carmel and Big Sur (on our second visit to Randy's Sandwich Shop). This is a great local sandwich shop. We were staying nearby and stopped here to grab a sandwich to go. We got a turkey sandwich with a lot of the fixings. It was a great sandwich with an amazingly fresh roll! It's a small place and it's cash only, so be prepared. There is no real seating, just a bench outside. This is a "grab and go" kind of place. It's pretty small with a counter and some sodas in a fridge. We split a whole sandwich and it was good enough. If you are really hungry, you could eat one by yourself. I've been going here since 2006 ish and the quality still hasn't changed. I moved to Orlando for a few years but I made it a MUST to go to Randy's every time I visited. My go-to for breakfast is the burrito with bacon with jalo and for lunch, JAWS 2! They don't skimp on the meat like other places do, so that's always a plus. Great food but even greater service. TIP: Bring cash, order ahead so it's ready by the time you get there, and leave a tip for their awesome service! :) read more

The want you to think that they are caring couple who are running a local business when they really don't care about anyone but themselves. They use their rental properties to scam people out of their hard-earned money. The "cute grandparent appearance" is fake. They are greedy rich people who stay rich by taking advantage of those with less. They put in a real good show and you may even get a free sandwich or two, here and there, but then they have me paying out of pocket on utilities that I never get reimbursed on and refuse to return a deposit that they charged for an emotional support animal (which is illegal in CA). Do NOT give these people your money!! They are BAD people with NO MORALS who do NOT DESERVE your business!! And the SANDWICHES; mediocre, at best! You'll get your money's worth because they are big but don't deliver on much flavor. I know a good Reuben and it should have a good amount of sauerkraut on it! They barely put any on and overdo the sauce. They make basic sandwiches. Period. I wouldn't give this family a single penny more, even if they didn't cost me money! Take your money somewhere else! I'm staying at the Hilton Garden Inn for work and heard about Randy's Sandwich Shop. It was cash only so I walked in and asked what I could get for $13, that's all I had on me. VERY friendly family owned business, they said you can get anything for that, you can even get something to drink. I ordered the Italian beef (hot sandwich) with hot peppers. Let me tell you, it was bursting with flavor and had good heat! The meat was fresh and the bread was soft. I also purchased a Diet Coke. Total bill came to $12!! Small quint establishment, not for dine in as there is not seating. Not a problem. We need more sandwich shops like this, and less of the chain ones (Subway, Mr. Pickles, Togo's, Quiznos, Jersey Mike's). Highly recommend, would definitely come back!! read more

For the two days I was here, I ate here twice. So... it's that good. Only bummer is that the calamari sells out quick so make sure you go before noon. I've heard a lot of locals say positive things about Randy's Sandwich shop so after being here over 6 years I finally decided to try them for lunch. I walk in and no "hello" from the woman at the counter. Just a short "can I help you". The entire interaction made me feel like I was bothering her or something. I ordered the Italian beef sandwich and what a mistake! Salty meat and soggy bread. The advertised price for sandwich said nine dollars, but the woman at the counter told me my total was $10. Local taxes are 9.25%, which means my total should have been $9.83 I did not say anything about it because at this point I knew that I was not going to return and in the end not having the $.17 it's not going to hurt me. Was staying at the Hyatt, and there arent many food options near by. But, I was craving a sandwich, and this worked out perfectly. A 5 minute walk from the hotel. I was eyeballing the Jaws 2, because it had bologna. Can never go wrong with anything that contains bologna. BUT, someone ahead of me ordered the rockfish. So, I decided to order the rockfish, as well. It didnt disappoint. The bread was fresh, the sandwich was still warm when I got back to the hotel. They didnt skimp on the tarter sauce. Fish tasted good. The only thing that bothered me a little bit was that they microwaved the fish, to heat it up. Not a big deal, but enough to make some of the edges of the fish dry. I hate to only give this place two stars because they have a famous breakfast sandwich that I was not able to try during my visit. So this review is based on the calamari sandwich I ordered and was highly disappointed. For starters, that place has nothing that they make themselves. Everything is from a jar or a bag. That was my first warning. The calamari was quite mediocre, it wasn't the worst I've had, but it was not the best I've had by any means. The batter was slipping off, and mixing greasy batter with Cheap lettuce and mayonnaise was not appetizing. My wife actually did not finish her half of the sandwich. They could have definitely used some type of tartar aïoli, locally made fresh bread, or something to set them apart. But they did not. My husband wanted to stop by here before going to out hotel in Monterey. They have very unique ordering system....you basically yell out your order to the chef in the back. Would not have figured it out if it was not for the guy in line behind us who told us how. The order came out super quick, and two big subs packed with cold cuts costed only $14 dollars. What an amazing price for Monterey. I can see why people love this place. The workers were super nice to my baby too. Beware....the bread gets all over you so your car will get messy, and I did see they closed the business around 1:15pm. read more

It is tucked away and worth every penny! We always share a unique tuna and turkey with all the veggies. He put it on a fresh soft sesame 12" roll and OMG it was tantalizing to our taste buds. The tuna was albacore and had just enough hard boiled egg. He clearly knows his flavor profiles. Service was expertly done and he didn't even hesitate when I asked for our unique blend of foul and fish. Ambiance was clearly a hole in the wall, and local favorite. One of the few places that is walking distance from the Hyatt and it's reasonably priced and tasty too!!! Their bread is solid and more than capable of holding all the meats. Even the warm sandwiches will not melt. At the same time, the bread does not overpower the sandwich. The sandwiches are simple, but great in their simplicity. You can grab your choice of a wide variety of chips and help yourself to bottled drinks in the fridge to make it a tasty meal. They are cash only and won't give out receipts. Very small little sandwich shop close to Naval postgrad school. Zero ambiance, zero friendliness at the cash register or when ordering. But that doesn't seem to be a problem bc there's a line. I asked for a turkey sandwich with lettuce, red onion and Swiss cheese, no mayo. I unwrapped a turkey with no lettuce, and white American cheese. Randy's has some of the best Subs. It reminds me of when I was a kid living in PA. and you got a sub. it was so big. Randy's has a lot of meat in it and the prices you can't beat $6 or 7 dollars and the quality. I think he has the best subs and prices in Monterey and LA. I always made sure I took some home for my Mom and Dad and when I would leave town back to LA I would drive 20 miles out of my way to get a sub for the ride. Your the best Randy!
