So good, and so hard to decide what you should pick.
On my initial review draft I gave Cannibale Royale 4 stars. Since then, however, I have visited the CR more often, and after comparing this place with other places, I am going to go with 5 stars.
One major plus point is that they serve food until late (which means after 10pm in the Netherlands). Since I am a late-dinner person, and especially in the summer when I do not feel like stuffing my face while the sun is still shining on my face, I love this feature.
Next plus point for me is the variety of meat. Yes, I LOOOOVE meat! There is a choice of burgers and steaks. Usually, places pick one of the two, or are good only at one of the two. The Cannibale Royale is great at both.
Even though I am a meat lover, I think that CB can also work for a mixed-diet group as well. There is a good offer on healthier dishes (read: salads), as well as option for the vegetarians. (Even though it is a pity not to eat meat here...or in general :D)
Furthermore, I am a fan of their sides, as well as the broad range of beers to choose from.
The only minus points I can think of off the bat are service and reservations. The staff is sometimes slow, or better said inattentive. Also, it does not matter if it is during the week or weekend, you are absolutely better off with a reservation if you want to splurge on some chow.
Finally, I have a review of their steak tartare.
These days I am into comparing the steak tartare of various places. The steak tartare at Cannibale Royale is a bit of a mix-it-yourself situation. Some people might like this, I personally prefer it seasoned already, with what my friend often calls 'the sauce'. And please do not misunderstand me, I do not mean that it is made in the morning in a blender and served in a dog food can shape.
I mean that they come close to Chef Robuchon's way of making it:
Mix egg yolk, mustard, and a pinch of salt in a bowl, then slowly add some (peanut) oil, and mix into a homogenous mixture. Add onions, capers, parsley, and then drip in some Worcestershire sauce and few drops of Tabasco. Put the meat into the sauce, mix, and serve immediately.
The issue with making the seasoning is that people might not like it, or that the seasoning is off. It is risk indeed, but if you've got it, you've got it.
Anyways, I was still quite happy as all components were provided, and the meat CR used was fresh, and chopped instead of minced.
All right, enough said. I am a total fan, and so far Cannibal Royale is my fave for meat. read more
