As a poor millennial, we can normally only come here during winterlicious/summerlicious, at least we get a significant pay bump. We came here for 2019 winterlicious in a group of 4 so we were able to try most of the tasting menu. overall amongst the starters, I enjoyed (surprisingly) the green bean salad, which wasn't vegan and had foie gras at the bottom which really added a extra layer of richness and flavor to the refreshing salad. For the main, my favorite was the Pork Jowl two ways and it was simply a really balanced dish. For dessert, I liked the apple cheesecake tart the most, as I really like tarts in pgeneral. Appetizers, we ordered the green bean salad, the roast beef tartare, and salmon cabbage roll. The green bean salad had a nice crunch from the beans itself, and made up for the veggies with the foie gras. My roast beef tartare was good, but I didn't enjoy the seared outer texture of the each piece of beef cubes as it didn't add texture, but did confuse my palette in a unpleasant way. The presentation of the dish also seemed off as the entirety of the tartare and the dish was on one side of the dish, which gave me the impression the star of the dish was missing. The salmon cabbage roll was a good second as the salmon was cured perfectly but it lacked texture, and the outer cabbage layer was harder to cut, and therefore harder to enjoy with the cured salmon stuffing. Main wise, we ordered the strip loin, the pork jowl, and the halibut (not about that vegetarian life). I went with the pork this year as we often get the strip loin in prior years, but boy was it a pleasant surprise. The strip loin main steak was good, but nothing stood out, the steak was cooked perfectly. The dish however did come with a beef croquette, or "osso bucco croquette", which took me by surprised as all croquettes I know of involve mashed potatoes. While it was a pleasant surprise, since the beef was already cooked before formed into croquettes and fried, the beef inside was somewhat dry and lacked seasoning. The halibut was cooked well, and it had a nice char on the outside. The sauce paired well with it, but it didn't blow my taste buds as much as the canoe I'm accustomed to. The Pork Jowl however, did blow my taste buds and my mind. It was cooked 2 ways, one braised (maybe with red wine?) and reminded me of classic french cooking, and the other was similar to pork belly and was cooked similar to Chinese style Cantonese roasted pork, or siu yuk. The siu yuk was really crispy on the outside, but it was not the only component that made the dish really good. The parsnip and the heirloom carrot sauce really brought the dish together. Dessert wise, we got the chocolate cake, the apple cheesecake, and the maple parfait. The maple parfait was delightful and the use of bananas was subtle but can definitely be tasted, and it even caught the fancy of the wife, even though she's normally not a fan of bananas. The chocolate cake was good, not too sweet as it's dark chocolate, but since I'm not a big fan of chocolate flavored stuff, it was simply good. My favorite was the apple cheesecake, which was served in a tart shell. The little pickled/marinated pieces of apple was sweet and tarte and balanced out the sweetness of the cheesecake well. Canoe is located at the 54th floor, the view is amazing, it can be easily one of the best view restaurant in Toronto. However, the food is only average when compare the quality to the price. The smoked salmon appetizer is tasty, but the lamb shoulder and beef striploin are not particularly outstanding, the walleye fillet however gives me some surprise. The dessert is not too good especially the penna cotta, lack of flavour, I recommend the strawberry shortcake. I don't mind paid for the view, but it is a little bit costly if you count the quality of the food. read more

First time coming here. We came for Summerlicious 2019 event. Located on the 54th floor of the Toronto Dominion tower building in Downtown Toronto. They offer complimentary parking as well. This is a fantastic place to celebrate something special. Great for various group sizes. Atmosphere 5/5 This place has the view both inside and out. But best is sitting near the windows, which have the best views of the harbour, the city, and the CN tower. Service 5/5 Superb service. Nice friendly. Very professional. When I left the table to use the restroom, our waitstaff folded my napkin nicely to some shape, asked about our food. Attentive. Describes each of our dishes that we ordered. Food 5/5 Quality and taste definitely there. One of the best places to eat with a great view. We ordered the following: Appetizers 1. Atlantic salmon tartar 2. Prairie beef carpaccio crostini Entree 1. Tamworth pork Joel 2. Beef filet and cheek Dessert 1. Devil's food cake 2. Citrus tart The food was amazing. Truly delicious. All the dishes were beautifully presented. Well thought out. The beef entree was one of the best we have tasted. The pork was like a really good Chinese roasted pork, it had crunchy skin and extremely tender meat. Everything was very well paired. Canoe is a very dancing date place right up at the top of TD towers getting a nice view of the landscape and the lake. Though when it is sunny in the direction hitting you from the windows make it hard for photos and your own personal viewing as you eat - but the scene is great. Servers are well trained and professional, they definitely exude the confidence you expect in such a high-end restaurant. They are known for their wild mushroom stew soup - sounds delicious. In my opinion it was a little bit salty but it could be that my palette is not used to a very strong soup taste so to speak that felt heavy. I ordered the b.c halibut and it was very neatly plated. However for what you pay for, you definitely pay for the environment and scenery than anything. And I would say if you want to eat for the environment, you'd come here. If I didn't crave for a variety of different cuisines, and a change of scenery, I'd be a regular here. As expected, service, quality and atmosphere didn't disappoint, but (and this is an extremely minor suggestion to the restaurant) the chairs either need a wash or replacement. I've been to Canoe a few times. One of those times was for the tasting menu. The meal was themed after the Montreal Food Expo of '67, which was a turning point in Canada's food game. We started with corn dogs, true to the expo theme, with short rib sausage inside. Next was a smoked steelhead trout tartar, which was INCREDIBLE! I also liked the next appetizer, which was a chicken liver parfait, with crispy chicken skin, peaches and asparagus (it wasn't too livery for those who don't like liver). The main course was either a delicious cod dish or a yummy steak (we got one of each). Finally, for dessert we had a caramel corn ice cream, followed by an apple tartlette, then the cutest cotton candy! For the price, I think I could have gotten a better price fixe menu, but it was still pretty good. I actually like coming her the most for lunch. This means that the decor of the place is obvi beautiful and the clientele is composed of business people. You get a nice view of Toronto from the window. Iriana and I came here for dinner during my pre-Yelp days. The view is so nice although where we were seated it was hard to see. The service was very good and the servers took the time to explain the dishes to you. The food for me I thought was so good! I had Pickerel, but I've heard they chance the menu frequently. Beforehand, I had called to ask about vegan options for my girlfriend and they assured me that the chef would make a custom menu. When we arrived, there was some confusion and this "custom menu" did not exist. Price wise, you'll need deep pockets. This wouldn't be anywhere I could frequent that's for sure. Canoe is the most modern Canadian restaurant I could think of, and it was great for my guests to try this place! I have lactose intolerance, and they were amazing at modifying my dishes around that. I ordered cured west coast salmon to start, yellowfin tuna as a main, and had berries for dessert (all their set menu desserts have dairy that can't be modified). I have only visited this premium restaurant during summerlicious and winterlicious. Canoe is apparently the "best" restaurant in Toronto. Although best depends on your taste buds. The decor and the windows looking out onto the CN tower and lake ontario is amazing. It is definitely a date spot made to impress the ladies. This is Canadian fine dining. The food is prepared and looks like art. The service is amazing even for those of us on a summerlicious/winterlicious cheap menu. Got seated 10 minutes before our reservation time - yay! But our night didn't escalate that much after that... I asked for window seating in my reservation and was given a seat in the centre. We still had a view of Toronto but I wish they adhered to our seating preference, or at least notify us beforehand that there was none available for that moment. We were greeted by our waiter and he placed our napkins on our laps; I felt like a princess. The menu for the night: - White wine - Pinot grigio - Daily bread and chick pea spread - Coastal half dozen oysters - Rabbit saddle - Risoni risotto - Screeched tarte au sucre I appreciated how our server poured both my guest and myself some wine to taste. At other restaurants, typically only one guest would taste. As for food, I had everything besides the rabbit saddle. The bread was warm to touch with a firm crust. The spread reminded me of hummus - why don't they just call it hummus? It was nice how another server continued to bring us more bread while we were waiting for our mains, which did take a while to reach our table. Oysters were oysters - they tasted fresh. Risoni risotto - I enjoyed this a lot. It was different from other risotto dishes I've had as the rice was more flat and long. The risotto itself seemed to be loose. To explain, the rice would not stick together. However, I preferred this because it didn't make me feel like I was eating baby food. The kale crisps were divine - they were crunchy, thin, and added just enough texture compared to the star of the dish, the risotto. Screeched tarte au sucre - This reminded me of a creme brulee, but less sweet and less torched. Would have liked a bit more crunch on the top though! The crust tasted slightly undercooked but overall, good flavours in the dessert. One thing that would've made my experience better is having the menus labelled for persons with dietary restrictions. I had to ask the server whether 'kohlrabi' was a meat. EDIT: Another thing I forgot to mention was how I almost slipped 3 times while walking on the hardwood floor! Although I was wearing heels, I was able to walk in the lobby and to my car comfortably for 30 minutes. Unsure if my shoes or the flooring...but I vote for the latter. read more

My first time at Canoe was two years ago and I was a big fan of the view but not the food. More recently, I came for winterlicious 2018 and thought the food was much better than it was two years ago. I started with the poached salmon which was surprisingly large in portion and went really well with the mustard. My friend had their foie gras and I thought it went nicely with the berry sauce. I then had the beef short rib and thought that was good but not exceptional. For dessert, I had the poached pear, which came with a spicy sauce. It was good but wish I had gotten the trifle instead. They were really busy but service could be better. Our mains took a really long time to get to us and we saw others that came in before us get served first. Delicious well thought out menu items, decent portions (slightly on the small size depending on what you ordered), great view and atmosphere, as well as very attentive service. Visited them for Summerlicious last year and the recollections of the taste still have me salivating. The food was one of the tastiest I have had, the views were impeccable. It is located on 55th floor of TD tower, so the CN tower was right in front from our vantage point as well as gorgeous views of Lake Ontario. It is rightfully in Top 5 restaurants in Canada. The only thing that was a little lacking was the service, our server didn't seem very attentive. It may be because the restaurant was filled to capacity or summerlicious but the food more than made up for it. I had a foie gras terrine, it was served with caramalized nectarine with complemented it really well; while wife had a salad. For the main course, I had Quebec magret duck breast while wife had a risotto. For desserts we shared a dessert with seasonal berries and a chocolate cake with mint purée. Everything was fantastic. Came here for 2018 Summerlicious! Two of us ordered the smoked salmon and pork rillettes for appetizers, lamb shoulder and beef strip loin and short ribs for mains, finished with panna cotta and shortcake for dessert. The appetizers were our favorites. The smoked salmon was so soft, I didn't want to stop chewing :'). The highlight for me was the salmon mousse, so creamy and flavorful~ My partner really liked the pork rillettes and how meaty it tasted despite the texture. The lamb shoulder was the perfect texture, but a bit dry for my personal taste. More sauce on the side would've been nice. All the vegetable and sauce sides were great! My partner's beef strip loin was my favourite, it was so juicy. Shorts ribs were very tender. The strawberry shortcake is a great dessert for ginger lovers. I have been here three times and each visit has been disappointing. I keep coming back hoping for this 5-star experience that everyone else seems to be having. I give up on trying and frankly, will never return. Expect subpar service and food. The only exception being, if the staff judge you (and believe me, they will) and they deem you to be wealthy and "of status," then I'm sure you'll have a fantastic experience. If not, you're out of luck. If you have a severe anaphylactic allergy DO NOT COME HERE. They say they take it seriously but one of the staff literally mocked me when I told them about my allergy, laughed at me, then played it off as a joke. My date was horrified and wanted to leave then. Man, we should have. Waiters then brought my allergen to the table TWICE despite me informing them when I booked the reservation and telling my waiter. We decided to visit Canoe at the last minute, so with no reservation, we had dinner at the bar, but what a treat! Located on the 54th floor of the TD Bank Tower, the view is amazing. The restaurant is very stylish and our waitress was simply perfect, offering recommendations when asked and even answering a few questions we had about the city, since we were visiting. Everything we ate was delicious. We shared the Beef Tongue Poutine (with tiny pieces of beef tongue, perfect to add depth to the dish), The Chicken Confit Drumettes (that melted in your mouth) and the Classic Canoe Mini Tourtières (the perfect balance of sweet and salty). The Chocolate and Squash Dessert was as yummy as it was beautiful. Took the hubs here for our anniversary and glad we came. Such a gorgeous view of the city while enjoying delicious creations. We asked for recommendations and they were all the same dishes we wanted to try. Everything was cooked perfectly and very creative compared to the usual preparations. Yeah, I'm talking about the S'mores Foie Gras and the Candied Salmon. Hubs loved the Wild Boar which was expertly seasoned and wasn't gamey. My fish had a good sear. Mushrooms...you have to get them. Best meal of our trip. Canoe actually has a few other fine dining establishments beat in our book such as Jean George's in NYC, Guy Savoy in Vegas and Gary Danko in SF. In the heart of downtown's financial district, up on the 54th floor of the TD Bank Tower - Canoe serves only the fanciest to its consumers. My cousin, Alex, wanted us to try out their Wine and Cheese selection, just for taste and for the experience. I was ecstatic and looked forward greatly to trying it out with my family for the first time. We ordered the Biffs Red Wine which was quite a division between sweet and sour - I personally am not a huge fan of wine, however with this wine and cheese experience, perhaps my taste is changing as I couldn't imagine having the cheese without the wine! On our Cheese Platter we had a variety of different cheese displayed beautifully on a glass plate. The waiter informed us that many of the cheese on our platter were imported straight from Prince Edward Island and some classic cheese were on our plate as well, such as the Blue Cheese (though I didn't enjoy that cheese too much, and neither did any of my company that night). In the tower, the view was simply spectacular - you could see the lake, the city, and the CN tower all in one window. The ambiance was similar to my time in the CN tower itself and it's rotating restaurant, just in a different building basically. Canoe did not fail to make me feel very chic indeed. The decor pays homage to Canadian rich and raw environment with wooden chandeliers, moss covered wall art, and copper accents all across the restaurant. Alex, being no stranger to the wine and cheese scene, taught my brother and I how to dine on this dish the "proper" way. Wine and Cheese Night Things I learned on this excursion: 1) Hold the wine glass at the stem of the glass - that way the wine won't get warm from the finger tips. Also, stirring the glass in a circular motion as well, enhances the wine's taste. 2) With each different cheese you take a bite out of, you simply take a sip of wine to pair it with the taste of the cheese - apparently its suppose to enhance the cheese taste that you so desire. 3) On the platter as well, there were some caramelized scones and fruits. My cousin informed me that they were there to "clear the palette" in case you have too much of a cheese taste in your mouth. By eating these, you've "restarted" your taste buds so they can experience a new cheese with your wine I must say, having family in Toronto is definitely a pleasure, especially having my eldest cousin and my eldest brother working in the Financial District. At the moment the Canoe Nostalgia tasting menu is being offered. It comprises of culinary creations inspired by Canoe's storied past. The dishes sounded intriguing and I was excited to experience them. Reception by the hostess was welcoming. We were shown to our table, where Sarah introduced herself as our server for the evening; she was friendly, knowledgeable and professional. Pacing of the courses was fine, except for the main course, which took way too long to come to the table. The first course was Alberta Beef Tartare + P.E.I. Oysters (salsify, hazelnuts - 2002). The fried oyster was served wrapped in a very thin beef slice, over a bed of beef tartare, on an oyster shell. Presentation was unique, where the oyster shell was placed atop a vertebrae, over a deep dish decorated with greens. Sarah informed us that the creation was the result of condensing an entire full size course down to a bite size amuse bouche. While it was an interesting concept and the execution condensing the dish into a bite size morsel was well done, the different flavors put together did not blend as harmoniously as hoped. The second course was Duck 'Tongue to Tail' (dodine of Muscovy duck, foie gras parfait, quince vinaigrette - 2012). I usually prefer my foie gras pan seared, but the parfait was lovely, with a rich velvety texture. The dodine de canard also had a nice texture and paired very well with the foie gras parfait. The third course was Smoked Boudin Noir + Sweetbreads (Jerusalem artichoke risotto, black walnusts, morels - 2011). This dish had a big personality; it was earthy, nutty and delicious in an unexpected way. The sweetbread was served atop the artichoke risotto and had a great texture that resembled fried chicken, which was the experience the chef was attempting to create. This was my favorite course of the evening. For the main, guests were offered two choices, 'Chicken' Halibut (simmered oxtail, citrus veloute, Brussels sprouts, spring greens - 2004) or Roasted + Braised Hen (whipped garlic, cipollini onions, maple bacon, tarragon - 2001). The hen was described as a variation on coq au vin, which my spouse prepares very well at home, so I opted for the more adventurous chicken halibut. The halibut was flaky and wrapped in crispy chicken skin. The concept was interesting, although I did not feel that the chicken skin improved the flavor of the halibut; I found the halibut a bit too salty for my taste. Pre-dessert was Ontario Rhubarb (2014), which was described as a reference to the chef's childhood. Rhubarb pieces were served atop brown sugar. It was a refreshing and interesting course. Warm Apple Confit (quince ice cream, vanilla mousse, macadamia nut - 2000) was the dessert. It was a deconstructed dish, nicely executed and presented. Flavors were nice, though a bit subdued. The Summerlicious 3-Course Lunch @ $33 pp is a great opportunity to sample Canoe's menu for significantly less. Request a window seat for an amazing view - West side: CN Tower, South side: Lake. The food isn't mind blowing but it is good, and SO much better than the food at 360 (CN Tower) for a similar price. The ingredients are fresh - though some dishes are quite bland and can use more flavour. We go to Canoe once a year. It is a great special occasion date spot for the stunning views. This was my first time to try their summerlicious lunch. It was $28 for the 3-course lunch which included appetizer, main course and dessert. I selected fole gras parfait, braised lamb shoulder and mint chocolate torte as my three courses. I didn't like the fole gras parfait at all so that I asked the waiter to see whether he could change to rainbow trout for me. The waiter agreed so quickly and he wanted me to have an excellent experience in Canoe! The braised lamb shoulder was really soft and easy to chew. The sauce was fit with the lamb which made it taste perfectly. The mint chocolate torte was made of rich dark chocolate. It was perfect when eating the chocolate with the mint cream. The view was amazing where you can see CN Tower, Harbourfront and Ontario Lake. The environment of the restaurant was so high class. The service was very good. But the food portion was too tiny! To summarize, Canoe is a pseudo-Fine dinning establishment on the strive. Its air of arrogance within its management and service staffs has no place in the now new and dynamic progressive Toronto dining scene. Visit was less than impressive and food was average at best. The pricing of their menu is the only fine-dining aspect that Canoe got right. It will be a tall order( no pun intended) for my return voluntarily. read more

Absolute gem of a restaurant! Food was amazing and the view was beautiful. Food portions were a little small but other than that, they tasted great and had very nice presentation. I ordered the Great Lakes pickeral and had the apple terrine for dessert. The birch and sunchoke ice cream was PHENOMENAL and would return just for that! Service was amazing as well. Our server was constantly coming to our table to make sure everything was okay and even gave us small tasters (of duck tartare) before our meal came. Staff was super friendly and accommodating. I went there for the Summerlicious. The view is pretty great, unfortunately our table was not right by the window to be able fo freely to take photos. Food actually tasted great. I chose the Salmon for the appetizer, OMG! So tasty . The main dish was the braised Beef ribs; it was a great combination of all tasty ingredients. The panna cotta was SOOO gooooood! The portion of all the food was great. It filled me quite well. I will definitely go back to there for other occasions :) read more

Perhaps not my cup of tea but overall experience was just mediocre. I had booked a month in advance through opentable.com but had no option to select seating. When I arrived I had asked to be moved to a window area but the place was all reserved already (any tips on how to reserve a window seat? Do I need to actually call in?). The servers and host were very friendly. They have free coat check so that is a great plus in the winter time. The decor is nothing fancy and the ceiling was odd (not finished or they just expect no one to look up). The seating was spacious. The food was just okay. Again maybe not my cup of tea. The menu is concise and not too complicated so you can make your choices easy. I ordered the lamb and it was very well flavoured and a good option if you are debating between the options. The pasta was less than impressive. The ratio of pasta, sauce, and bison was too heavily shifted towards the pasta side. Lastly I also got the mushroom soup which was flavuorful and great way to start the meal. 2 out of 3 isn't that bad but the pasta still lingers. I wish I had the view as that is definitely one of the best features of the place. Maybe if I do return I will try to get the view and that may elevate the overall experience. I went here for Summerlicious 2017. This place gets BUSY! When we arrived, we were promptly seated. The table had a good view of the lake and a partial view of the CN Tower. Shortly after being seated, our server came by and offered water. Complementary bread was provided, accompanied by a chickpea and hummus dip. It was decent - the bread was fresh, but not warmed. The dip was made well, but lacked a bit of seasoning. Fois gras parfait was great. It seemed like a very small portion at first, but upon consuming it... I soon realized that it is not something that I would want to consume in large quantities. Lamb shoulder was my least favorite dish of the 3. It was deceivingly dry from what seemed to be "end pieces" and there was no textural element to the dish. Summer berry crumble was as expected. Fresh fruits and a crumble that was well made. Overall, the service was great, the food wasn't outstanding ... But if im going there based on its reputation alone, I expected a bit more. read more

Canoe. Every Torontonian has heard of this place before. How could you not have? It's constantly rated one of the best restaurants in Canada and if you're a fan of Masterchef Canada, you've definitely heard about it from Michael Bonacini. I finally came here for a Summerlicious lunch ($33) with my friend. I was very impressed. The place is on the 54th floor of the TD Bank Tower and the views are spectacular. The service is attentive and the atmosphere is beautiful. I ordered the atlantic salmon tartae for my appetizer, braised beef cheeks for my main and the Hewitt's buttermilk panna cotta for dessert. My friend got the asparagus and fresh pea salad for her appetizer, the heritage chicken pot au feu and the devil's food cake for dessert. Everything was delicious. All plates looked beautiful. Even something as plain as a salad was presented nicely. The beef cheeks were nicely cooked with a good amount of fat. I loved the crispiness from the wild rice crumble too and how it balanced out the softness of the beef. I found myself wishing I got the devil's food cake for dessert instead of the panna cotta. The panna catta was delicious nonetheless, however the devil's food cake was so rich and yummy. This place is, in my opinion, one of the best restaurants you can go to for Summerlicious/Winterlicious. With the normal prices of the mains ranging from $30-60, getting a 3-course meal here at $33 for lunch or $53 for dinner is fantastic deal. read more

I've been wanting to try this restaurant for the longest while, the view is of course beautiful. I went here for summerlicious. Every dish was very appetizing. For starters I got the cured salmon, it was very flavourful, which came from the maple balsamic. For the main I got the beef short ribs, they were very tender, the sauce and mashed potatoes also gave it a nice flavour. For dessert I got the strawberry cheesecake, the cake was very soft, and the mousse and meringue added to the tasty dessert. The only minus is that although we had a reservation, we were seated 15 minutes later. Other than that the service was good. read more

This one is just FANTABULOUS. So far my favorite restaurant in Toronto. It is very difficult for me to find a restaurant's all three courses starter main and dessert are delicious. Canoe did it! Excellent starter. Mushroom on toast. I wish I could have this dish again but it seems like this one only offered during summerlicious. Main course I ordered pork, fresh meat and cooked so well, juicy and tasty. Dessert is mint chocolate cake, I am not a fan of mint, but this cake's mint makes me love it. Will definitely recommend my friend to go there. Hope they would add mushroom on toast on the regular menu!!!!!! read more
