First, you have to understand the difference between old tenants and new. I was a new tenant and my apartment was renovated. So I didn't have the problems that the old tenants talk about. This place is beautiful. Looks just like a resort. Lovely landscaping and super clean with the exception of a few irresponsible dog owners. The maintenance staff is nice but not qualified to evaluate many issues. On every issue regarding appliances, they said the issue was some minor thing when in fact the appliance had to be replaced. The office staff is considerate and professional. I found this place to be incredibly safe. Left my car doors unlocked for two years even with a credit card in the seat one night and noone took a thing. Ask if there will be any closures. A week after I moved in, the clubhouse, gym and one pool were closed for more than a year. Naturally, no discount was provided on the rent during this time. read more

Beware--this place is a scam. DO NOT MOVE HERE. The warm welcome quickly fades; once you move out, you'll be slapped with an inflated bill worth far more than the apartment itself. Expect a move-out statement that runs into the thousands for routine wear and tear. The aminities are not what is listed on the website. The EV charger is there but does not work. I was told in 2024 that it will be operational by september, moved out July 2025 and still waiting for the EV chargers. Evidence will be generated to prove that move out charges are accurate, you will be told one thing on the move out inspection and charged another. read more

We've lived here for a year and this place is awesome. Friendly staff and neighbors, huge park right next to the complex and a school just down the street, sits across the street from a golf resort. Maintenance is quick and friendly, very non intrusive, dead bolt on the door as well which gives a lot of peace of mind. The only cons to this place for us was the excessive gardening, literally almost everyday lawnmowers, leaf blowers and everything else are running bright and early, sometimes as early as 7am. That and there is only one trash compactor for the whole complex. Aside from the occasional times where parking is full on the weekends those are really the only downsides to living here, it's been great we will miss it for sure. read more

This is one of the worst racist woman I have ever come across in my entire life of leasing. Judy Savage lied in court about me moving out and now we have to take them back to court for fraud, civil rights violation, failing to provide a habitable home, misrepresentation, negligent hiring, and professional negligence. Update 7/6/20: Corporate granted us an early termination, which we definitely did get the heck out of there. But I'm only updating this because since I've finally moved out, I can admit on here that the management did pay us back for money we spent on the fly traps, and finally apologized about 2 weeks after the incident happened--all to just sweet talk and ask me to remove my review lol. I told them no, but I will update it so here it is. I'm happy we left, because we found a ton of hatched fly eggs in our storage closet, and what was my daughter's closet.. Our bathroom sink broke, which prompted us to have to move earlier than when our lease ended, as well as our microwave--and again, despite having COVID over 10 weeks ago, with everyone recovered, they claim maintenance still couldnt come in to help us. Even my daughter's doctor's office is allowing us appointments, and my husband returned to work 2 weeks after his test. Something just doesn't add up. Glad we are out. :) DO NOT MOVE HERE!!! Only reason I gave it one star is because I had to. From the start our experience has been terrible from the rude, careless staff here. But most recently what happened that lead to finally put out a review is the following--A FLY INFESTATION!! One night my husband and I killed about 20 flies before going to sleep. Woke up the next morning to an apartment full of flies. Had been in contact with the office who was no help at all. First phone call, I was simply told that because my husband had COVID (in which he recovered and returned to WORK), the pest control company won't even enter the premises. I took their word and just continued to swat 40++ flies away by hand. I got tired of it, so I sent an email to the manager, Judy. She doesn't respond at ALL to my e-mail. So I call, AGAIN, the next day. She responds with, "oh I saw your email, I'm so sorry about that... let me get in touch with the manager of our pest control company to see what he recommends for you to do." 24 hrs go by, no follow up. I call AGAIN, and at this point I've spent $50+ on setting up my whole apartment to become a fly trap. I had to keep my 4 month old daughter and I locked in the master bedroom with formula and water because I couldn't even sit out in the living room. They left me living in these inhabitable conditions. It took them THREE days of me telling them that the infestation was on the INTERIOR not the EXTERIOR, (hence us finding LARVA in the baseboards), for them to tell me, "Well this isn't something we caused, since it's coming from the inside and not the outside." No discounted rent for the inhabitable situation, no sympathy, not even an apology. This is my 4th day living with 50+ flies at this point. It's been 24 hours since I last spoke to the property manager about either early termination, or transferring units, and I still haven't even had a follow up from her to even ASK how the infestation was going. She really doesn't care about her residents, she's blaming me and my cat for causing this infestation in which I've already explained is impossible since the source of flies was a total different side from the litter boxes. There's plenty of other reasons why I wouldn't recommend you to move here--from finding a used peri bottle in my storage closet, to always having to shake my towels to check for additional bugs, this place really ain't it. They are good size apartments, but man are they infested and the staff won't help you, nor will they even care about your situation. $100+ later on fly traps, they're still popping out of nowhere, and I'm still finding more larva in the baseboards since they didn't cut them very well and they sit above the ground creating holes.. One more thing to end my review, our windows don't lock--when you try to lock it, it just pushes the windows out. While my living experience at Canterra was good. The move out process was terrible. I moved 4 hours north and made a specific trip, with a scheduled walk through for closing. When I arrived, they claimed to have no record and the maintenance manager was "new and unavailable". After waiting an hour, they sent a maintenance worker, who looked around briefly, said "everything looked good" and left. Did not give me anything to sign. It has been nothing but a nightmare to get my security deposit back. Despite following their guidelines and providing the documentation they requested, forwarding addresses, I never received the check. Multiple emails, dozens of calls, three incorrectly issued checks, to incorrect addresses. I am never able to get ahold of the manager, as I am told they are in meetings or out of the office, assuring me I would get a return call...which never happens. read more

I can't stress enough not to move to this place! We have been here 3 years and each year have transferred to a new unit due to being unhappy with the current one. The past year has been the absolute worst!! I feel unsafe living here. In the past year alone. A car exploded against our wall and I woke up and had to call the police which was not done already. If I didn't wake up, I don't know what would have happened. There's so many bugs, cockroaches, lizards and much more that we find in our apartment and we keep it very clean. The windows don't lock which is so unsafe. There is a man that sleeps in his truck in this community every single night and backs in and just watches people. Me and my husband once tried to approach him and he went almost 100mph to get away from us and still is coming back to this day. My husbands truck has been broken into which maybe if the front gates worked more then 10% of the time that wouldn't of happened. Lastly which is the WORST I have a baby who at the time this happened was 5 months. He got conjunctivitis (eye infection) and the first thing his doctor asked when we brought him in was when the last time our air filter was change. We assumed it was before we moved in it was change and we haven't been here even a year. When we called maintenance to change it. There was about 5 inches thick of pure black which then confirmed why our baby had that infection. Oh almost forgot to mention our wall is shared with a garage which the landscapers use and they were storing gas in there and it was sleeping through our wall where our baby sleeps. So in safe for any of us to be breathing in gas like that. We called so cal gas 2 times to come out. Every time we have reached out to the manger Judy she has been very unhelpful and takes sooo long to get any problem solved at all even when it's for someone safety. I lived at Canterra for 1 year from 2017 to 2018 for work. I was debating between this apartment and another, but chose Canterra because it offered an in-unit washer and dryer. Overall I had a wonderful experience. The place is very quiet, and clean, and most importantly I felt safe (young female, living alone for the first time). The apartment also looks very nice and modern, and the buildings and landscape are well maintained. I'm surprised to see such bad reviews. I never encountered cockroaches or had issues of bugs inside my apartment, but maybe because my unit was very far from the trash/disposal area? The only issue I had was the refrigerator. It was leaking/dripping water from the inside and damaged some of my food. It happened twice. Although maintenance came to fix it both times, it still had some issues in the end. I don't know if she still works there, but Monica was very kind and helpful and we were able to work something out. read more

Here's just an update for my review. so I just moved out and left the place in immaculate condition. Actually in better conditions then when we moved in considering that a window was shattered and cabinets were molded and the apartment wasn't even cleaned. But we steam cleaned the carpets and deep cleaned the space. Well they billed us $399.34 for a paint carpet and cleaning fee to bring the apt back to the condition it was before move in. This place is awful. I'd give it zero stars if I could. I live here. I am assuming the lock on my door is broken and while it was the end of the day I managed to get to the office and tell them with my key in hand that I could not get in. The office lady told me that I would have to call the after hour Emergency number to be let in. She was of absolutely no help and Acted as if I had horribly insulted her when I asked for the number. God for bid it be 558 on a Friday Night. It would've taken her three minutes to have somebody unlock the door instead I have to call after hours emergency and wait an hour when it's not even a lock out because I have the keys to the apartment. Just moved in about a month and a half ago. Due to corona virus I couldn't do an in person interview or look at the apartments. But the virtual move in tour was amazing! The leasing staff agent Monica did the whole process over the phone and was very professional and incredibly kind, she made the process easy and fast! I saw the two bad reviews and I'm not sure how a car exploding has anything to do with the apartment complex. Also with the girl with corona virus there's a reason no one wants to enter your apartment we are in a pandemic. The apartment was clean along with carpet as you can see from the photos below. Overpriced and undermaintained. I paid nearly 1700 a month for a 1 bedroom 1 bathroom after subsidized trash and water calculated into my rent. I was there between August 2019 - July 2020 The couple above me argued constantly and I could hear everything, from doors slamming to footsteps and names they called each other. The worst thing was the general lack of safety I felt while living here, lots of suspicious activity and car break ins reported. It is a pet friendly complex but owners are not required to be responsible or even considerate of neighbors, the neighbor upstairs in the back would let her dog walk off the leash, down the stairs and piss all over the concrete in the main walk way between the buildings. When it got hot it reeked of old piss and feces- was disgusting. Last but certainly not least, I was so irritated with these conditions I left a month before my lease was up but still paid for the unit. The office staff, (aware that I moved out but contract wasn't finished yet) called me 2 days after move out and asked if maintenence could enter the apartment to measure for remodels in 28 days. I said sure, no problem. I returned weeks later but 24 hours before I was due to return the keys over with a cleaning crew to find a MAN EXITING MY APARTMENT WITH A DOG. I was stunned and began questioning him. He told me he was HOMELESS and had been staying in my apartment because it was vacant and the door was UNLOCKED when he found it. Apparently when the maintenance crew went to measure they never locked my door upon leaving and this squatter took advantage. I told him he had 5 mins to get his things and leave before I called the police and he did, very apologetically. The apartment was a f*kn disaster, his dog used the carpet as a litter box, stains on carpet that were not there prior to me moving out, trash and rotting food in the refrigerator, it was a legit drug den. When I called the office to tell them, they were nonchalant and short with me. The gravity of this mistake seemed missed on them and they seemed to not want to accept accountability, as if being legally advised on how to handle it. I had to pay extra for the cleaning crew to clean up the squatters den and despite all that, I most certainly left it cleaner than when I moved in. (Same cleaning crew came on move in day to deep clean before furniture arrived). About 2 months after I moved I get a call from a woman claiming to be from corporate with a threatening tone explaining I had left over move out expenses which included "cleaning and repairs", I told her impossible as it was professionally cleaned and scheduled for a remodel after I departed- so what repairs? I then proceeded to tell her what happened the day before I gave the keys back and that maintenance had left the door unlocked which gave way to a homeless man moving in temporarily, I explained the confrontation and call to the office and her tone pivoted to shock. She said she would be calling the main office to get to the bottom of it and a year and a half later I've never received another call from them again. So take your gamble considering living here, if you're desperate, short term and willing to put up with non-sense for overpriced amenities, it may be worth while. read more

Avoid this place at all costs. Our desert home sold earlier than we expected, and we needed a place to stay for four months. The apartment was in rough shape when we moved in (not particularly clean, stove overheating, dangling doorknob on the pantry, loose towel bar, scratched and dented cheap refrigerator, toilet running, chipped cabinets well past the time they should have been replaced, etc.) The efficient maintenance man did make repairs quickly when we pointed out the deficiencies, but it made us wonder whether anyone had even checked the apartment before we moved in. It has now been seven weeks since we moved out, and we have yet to receive the remainder of our deposit. (As others on Yelp have noted, the management deducts for normal wear and tear, which is against the law in CA.) We also have not received the promised refund of the rent we paid after we left. If the apartment was re-rented during the time after we left and were still paying rent, we were told we would be refunded what we paid when someone else was also paying rent. New renters moved in May 11, so we are owed a refund for 21 days of our May payment. I have called several times asking about our check, and was referred to Canterra's move-out service, which is based in Arizona. "Dema" is the person there who handles CA Canterra move-outs, and Dema does not answer her voice mail or email. The last time I called and left her a message, Dema had the Canterra manager call me and say the check had been cut and was on its way. That was more than two weeks ago. The Canterra manager also could not say whether the check amount included the rent owed to us as well as our deposit. This is the epitome of getting the runaround. There are plenty of other places in the desert to rent, and we would urge you to look elsewhere. Also, while we stayed at Canterra we had to endure a significant police action involving the apartment directly in front of our parking space. The tenant (or the tenant's acquaintance) smashed the front window, scattering broken glass on our parking space, and later returned and set fire to the apartment. Sheriff's deputies were at the complex for several days, including a stakeout and helicopter search. It was unsettling, and made us wonder about the quality of the tenant vetting process. Update: I called Canterra on June 11 and was told - again - that the check had been cut and sent, which turned out - again - not to be true. We finally received the check on June 16, and it had been cut and mailed on June 13. This company is not to be trusted. read more

I don't think renting a small one bedroom to 4 people with dogs is a good idea. It will only cause problems. Barking dogs are a BIG problem. Dog droppings are everywhere. They have many vacancies and I can see why. Parking is an issue as anyone parks in a handicap spot with no REAL action taken. They may tell them to move but no action is taken so no spots are left for those who are handicapped. I like the maintenance staff. They are helpful and friendly. The trash point is inadequate for the complex. Trash is always being piled leaving a Big mess to be cleaned up. read more

Lmao, I decided to read the reviews on Canterra and oh boy.. it's not hard to spot fake reviews. No ones moving here right now, especially a month and a half ago at the peak of the "pandemic," "Kyle." Pretty low and petty if you ask me. I thought better of this apartment complex but it's nothing but cheap appliances made to look nice. Half way through the first month of living here our blinds broke. I also noticed the first week we moved in that the baseboards are raised all the way around the apartment and the paint job in this apartment is terrible. There's paint splatter that is all over on baseboards under the island and even under the cabinets. The carpets don't fully cover the spikes that you step on when you walk out of each door way. The trash compactor is constantly over flowing to the point where residence have to set it off on the sidewalk and for some reason people think over the wall is a dumping ground for bed frames, large kids toys and a million other trash items. Last but not least, no one sleeps at night in these apartments. My upstairs neighbors seem to be elephants when they walk for some reason. I don't think they do it on purpose though, I just think the walls might be paper thin because you hear everything. After the events that occurred over the last few days, Linda, one of the women working in the office of Canterra, called and emailed us apologizing profusely for the issues that happened over the weekend. With the apology she offered to compensate us for the uncomfortability and raised air conditioning bill. As I don't feel it's right to remove previous reviews from Yelp, I would like to say I am very pleased with her offer. This shows me that the company is striving to set things right and wants to make sure it's tenants are having a pleasant experience living in their complex. I greatly appreciate this, and would have to retract my statement regarding living here. Based on these events, this apartment complex is still a great place to live and I would suggest it to anyone looking for a new home. Canterra Apartment Homes are nicely designed and beautifully landscaped (there are a variety of fruit producing trees so there is fresh citrus you can easily pick). There is a walking/dog path circling the property (complete with waste bags and refuse cans....and bunnies too). For warm days there are two pools to choose from to take a refreshing dip. We rented for 6 months while we transitioned moving from WA state to looking for a house. Jenna in the leasing office cheerfully scrambled to find the right apartment for us after we had some last-minute changes during move-in (she could have rolled her eyes and said tough luck). We appreciated how pet friendly they are (our pooch's share of rent = $40 mo). Canterra does have high-standards so good credit, ongoing renter's insurance, being respectful of other residents and staff a given. They do offer a range of terms: mo-to-mo, 6mo, 1yr leases so the rent varies accordingly. There would have been a rent increase had we stayed and renewed our lease. The staff (admin and maintenance/grounds crew) were responsive to the few instances we needed service. We liked the waves from Canterra staff in the service/golf carts passing by. We appreciated the friendly "good neighbor" vibe. read more

When I first moved in the apartment was given in very dirty conditions and even after advising management about it they had only the carpet cleaned and it wasn't even thorough. During our time here there was several neighbor disturbances in which management was once again indifferent about the concerns made. They only have 1 garbage area for the size of this complex which makes it very unsanitary and disgusting to look at. it is true from what other users have said that management does not care about tenants....they only care about signing you up and don't care what happens after that. read more

I had to sleep on my couch for nearly three months because it took them that long to fix my AC (that was running day and night due to it being old and not keeping up). Do not rent here this place is not is friendly at all I have been living here for the past 10 years and I've never had any issues until the new management that is here they are very rude disrespectful they missed placed personal checks of mine, the trash bin is the nastiest thing you can think of dogs walk around there with no leashes on people do not pick up after their dogs there is dog crap everywhere it's not friendly especially the management team they are rude do not rent here I would not recommend this place to anybody. Great place to live in! If you're looking for a great comfortable place to live it's Canterra. The property is very well maintained and the staff is very friendly. THIS PLACE IS AWFUL! We lived in a downstairs apartment at Canterra and we regret ever moving into Canterra. Don't be mislead by the nice exterior! Save your time and money don't live here! Noise is a big problem here. The walls and ceiling are extremely paper thin that you can hear loud footsteps pounding from the living room to the bedrooms morning to night. The ceiling shakes every time people upstairs walk or run. Unfortunately, for my husband and I, our upstairs neighbors are two little boys and a divorced housewife. The 2 boys jump and run all day and night and you can feel the ceiling, ceiling fan, and walls shaking like there's an earthquake. You can't sleep here! You can here loud screaming voices outside, upstairs, and even loud automobile noises all day! You can't go swimming in the pool because it's freezing cold! Two of my mail packages got stolen when the USPS guy left them at the door and we were at work. The gates are always opened so safety is a joke here. Assigned parking is also a joke because I would come home late from work and some strange car would be in my spot. You have no one to call because they don't even have security. The interior home appliances and refrigerator are falling apart. When we called the front office they don't even respond. So we emailed and they responded 4 weeks later. Do not waste your time and money moving to Canterra. It's overpriced and under deliver!!!! read more

I'm downgrading this place to 1 star!!!! Here is why: my husband and I have lived here for 3 months and it's time to renew our lease. They didn't even realize our lease was up and we asked them about renewing and they increased our rent by $100/ month!! What kind of crap is that?? If we had lived here for a year, our rent would've been $500 cheaper. Now we're wanting to extend and they are jacking up the price. I've heard similar complaints from other tenants. It's just wrong!! Also, today was fire inspection day and we had to endure hours of loud alarms throughout the complex. Our building alarm was so obnoxious we had to leave. I understand checking the alarms, but leaving them on for longer than needed was pure torture!! I think our building was at least 30 minutes. Why would it take that long to realize that they are sounding?? I feel so bad for anyone that works nightshift and sleeps during the day or parents with small children/babies at home or for the pets that stay indoors while their owners are gone to work. It was insane!!!!! Also, there is still a lot of litter around the complex. Another complaint is how people speed through the complex. The sign clearly states 9mph. They have speed bumps also, but no one abides. I fear some child or dog or rabbit is going to get hit one day. read more

I have been a resident at Canterra for almost 2 years and it's a beautiful place to live. The grounds are well maintained and beautiful. The pools are lovely. There's all kinds of fruit trees throughout the complex to help yourself to. There's several different species of birds that visit. I even have my own ducks that visit me 3 times a day others just take a nap here all day with the bunnies. Every time I ask maintenance for any requests they do it right away with a smile. Everyone here at the office is like an extended family. It's like a little piece of heaven in the desert. read more
