I have been a resident at Canterra for almost 2 years and it's a beautiful place to live. The grounds are well maintained and beautiful. The pools are lovely. There's all kinds of fruit trees throughout the complex to help yourself to. There's several different species of birds that visit. I even have my own ducks that visit me 3 times a day others just take a nap here all day with the bunnies. Every time I ask maintenance for any requests they do it right away with a smile. Everyone here at the office is like an extended family. It's like a little piece of heaven in the desert. read more

This is an overpriced apartment complex. The walls are paper thin. Noise is a big issue. You hear everything from other apartments.The appliances are the cheapest. The water heater is inside the apartment. Other places have them outside the apartment. The gates are open most of the time so safety is another issue. Parking is a royal pain. You get one reserved space which has been taken by others freqently. The management and maintenance staff are really nice. I fault the corporation for this overpriced low end environment. read more

The apartment and location is nice. Overpriced, but if you can afford it then consider it as long as certain things don't bother you. Elementary school next door has been fantastic with my daughter and they have some of the best test scores in the desert (which is what made us chose this location). Management has been OK, they do respond within a week or so to concerns you may have. The problem that I have found with them is that they do not hear out both sides of a story, and even with proof (security guard vouching for us) they will not help if they don't want to. Fair warning as well, the cockroaches are RAMPANT here. During the late summer they come out and are EVERYWHERE OUTSIDE. I requested the bushes outside of my apartment be sprayed 2 times before something was actually done, but if you are squeamish with bugs you will be jumping over them as you walk to your car. I thought at first it was just close to our apartments, but as I walked both the front and the back pools they were everywhere in the complex. If you have any guests over OR children this complex IS NOT RECOMMENDED. We receive complaints even when we have ONLY 2-3 people come over. We are not from the area and will have guest visit maybe 1 time a month for a weekend and have received some sort of complaint almost every time. My boyfriend and I have lived in multiple apartment complexes and have never once had a complaint. We are walking on eggshells and are EXTREMELY UNCOMFORTABLE IN OUR OWN HOME. We moved here and have had multiple complaints within 6 months. We did move into an upstairs unit, which apparently is a mistake as there has been complaints made about the noise of my 5 year old as well. We have had to either alter our lives so as to have no guests (as well as working to keep our child from playing around too much) or were given the choice to give up our deposit and have to pay a new one so that we can move to a downstairs apartment away from the elderly couple that continuously complain about us. We have chosen to alter our lives and deal with it until our lease is up and then move as it is not financially wise for us to waste money, and the effort that it would take to pack up everything that we own to move to a new apartment for 6 months was just ridiculous. IF you are elderly and looking for a quiet place to live then this is your place, but if you are younger and have ANY life stay far FAR away from these. I am an avid reader and did a lot of research online prior to choosing my unit. I WISH that there was some accurate review out there warning people like myself prior to me choosing this location, however I found nothing like this one. I would like to provide an update from my last review. Canterra has made a complete 180 change for the better! I'm very pleased to report that their maintenance dept. has improved in everyway. I really do enjoy living here, its perfect for working professionals, more resort/condo style living then a regular apartment complex. Hoping they continue to keep out any riff raff and keep it classy. The pool area is clean and not overrunun by screaming children either. Overall a nice a cut above place to live! I would not recommend Canterra Apartments. When we moved in to the apartment, there was a list of things that needed to be fixed and cleaned. My husband had to speak with the office several times over the first few weeks as they were not getting done. Like several posters below, we had a cockroach issue. The exterminator would come in, but explained that there was not much he could do other then spray. We discovered they were in the vents so the exterminator said he was have to fumigate the apartment. He said he would talk to the office staff and arrange a time. I also spoke with the office staff and both said they would get back to me with a time. No response. In July, our air conditioning went out, so we called and left our phone number with the emergency line as it was after 6pm. After no response for several hours, we decided to stay in a hotel for the night as it was almost 90F in the apartment. When we spoke with the office staff the next day, they said that the off-hours number posted was wrong. They had a new number but had not told the residents yet. I asked about why our phone messages were not returned and she said that the messaging service was not working and that there were hundreds of messages they could not access, again, not telling the residents. The garbage and recycling area is overflowing most Mondays with piles of garbage on the ground. This attracts the bugs and rodents. Due to these issues and often no response from the office staff, My husband and I have decided to leave and recently gave our notice. Canterra has poor customer service. We have had to pay money out of our account to deal with issues. This should not happen at a well-run apartment complex. read more

I have lived here for over 3 yrs and I have loved it. The staff has always been friendly and courteous and has always done things in a timely manner. Its always beautiful here with all the palm trees and lights so it makes you feel like your on vacation but your actually at home. I recommend this complex to everyone. read more

Great place to live. Miguel and Antonio do good work. Routine work orders are usually completed in 24 to 48 hours. Rents are climbing but these units are quiet and they are close to stores, medical facilities, schools, and a good mechanic. I like having a washer and dryer in my apt. Real nice facilities. However BEWARE if you rent here! Staff didn't follow through on things they were supposed to do. When we moved out (were only there 3 months) they "routinely" charge you for cleaning the carpets even if they don't need it (only one person lived there and they always took off their shoes). Actually the carpet was cleaner than when we moved in because we had to clean a spot on it that was there when we moved in! We asked the management several times for an invoice from the person that cleaned the carpet and they never provided it My understanding is that this is totally against the law! When we challenged them on this they referred us to their attorney. We still never got the requested receipt. Then when we tried to cash the return of deposit check they had stopped payment on it! They finally provided another check but we had to pay the bank fee for the first check. It just wasn't worth taking them to small claims court and I'm sure that's what they count on. My guess is that this is standard operating procedure for them. My humble opinion is that I wouldn't feel comfortable renting there. Responding to the comment from Ashley... we sent a letter to Lorena in your office on March 15, 2012 (as well as an email February 17). We also sent a FAX to your attorneys on May 1. Both correspondence stated that we never received an invoice regarding the carpet cleaning. Yes, supplying a copy of the bill would be a simple matter, yet neither your office nor your attorneys did this despite being told we never received it and that California Law required this information within 14 days of request. We still had no proof that the work was actually done since the carpet was very clean upon move out. Since you didn't provide us with an invoice, I can only assume that the work wasn't done and an invoice never existed. However, that is sort of a moot point. The carpet was spotless. The California Department of Consumer Affairs states, "Normal wear and tear to carpets, drapes and other furnishings cannot be charged against a tenant's security deposit." It's nice that you have a policy of cleaning carpets after move-out, but clearly the California Department of Consumer Affairs feels that the cost should be borne by Canterra when it is normal wear and tear (as it was in this case). Hmmm. Wonder how many tenants have been charged as we were?? Also, as I recall, we didn't wait 90 days to cash the check - it wasn't a "stale check". Your office (or your agents) simply stopped payment on it. Again, I can only assume this was done because we contested your charges. Sorry, in my humble opinion I don't feel that you followed the laws and policies that are in place. read more

I love it here ! The people in the office are bomb.com Antonio in maintenance is on top of everything. The grounds are always clean and fresh cut. They plant new flowers all the time. The girls in the office are always sweet, helpful and welcoming. I highly recommend Canterra. I even met the love of my life here! Seriously I fell in love with my neighbor! Whatever you do, do not buy into the $87.50 deposit!! It is a scam to screw you in the end! It is not a deposit, like we were told, you are buying a bond and you will never see that money again!! Now we have a bill for cleaning because our deposit, or bond, means nothing! Very disappointed! We enjoyed living there but maintenance is slow and the office rarely answers their phone. read more

Location is good. Maintenance people are awesome. Lawn works done almost everyday and it's too loud esp. in the morning. Dumpster area get full all the time esp. Sunday and it attracts alot of bugs.The area is not secure, non residents can easily park their car or get in inside the complex even without gate remote or gate access. Management doesnt do anything about it.When it comes to the interior of the apartment, it's just so-so.The unit i have, has the old white stove, microwave and fridge, bathtub is old and easily have yellowish stain, when you're looking for quiet place, this is not for you esp. when you're inside your apartment, you can hear everything from the four corners of your place, you can hear the footsteps of the people next to your unit, the cabinets and drawers opening snd closing, you can feel when somebody open and close their door.Because the walls and floors so thin, and shared you can hear your neighbors talking inside their unit and when you live on the bottom unit you can hear footsteps upstairs even when they're just walking lightly.If you have a child/children, you might think twice, because there's a lot of old people living here and management wanted a quiet place.They won't allow you to put any festive decors by the balcony or patio.Lastly , rents are increasingly ridiculous every lease period. read more

No one ever answers the phone in the office. If you have a problem you have to go in person to get it handled. Plus when it's time for your lease renewal they give it to you late and you don't have 60days when it's over 12% increase to your rent. read more

Been here a few months now the grounds and apartments are nice and for such high rent you think you could feel completely safe ,not the case, i have found finger prints and a dent in my car door that resembles a possible break in i always get the feeling theres shady stuff going on when im not around or not looking i have heard sounds on my door while in my apartment of someone kicking my door and i have found the locks partially broken thank goodness i have a security system thinking about breaking lease read more

Im a tenant for 6 years. I was kind of happy but the rent started going up and up and up. It started at $949 and with in 2 1/2 years it went up to $1199 for a 800sqf apt. Theres other apartments with "upgrades" and they pay less then what I pay. Kitchen doors are worn out but if it still closes its good for them. No security cameras at entrance. I pointed this for the excessive amount of rent and lack of security. People park in handicap with no permit and its OK because they don't go out and check. So you can do what you want :) Ahhh!!! And you live in a building where you share walls, that ok its an apartment. But if they smoke you will have to smell it because everyone can smoke inside their apartments and there is nothing you can do. Rent is way too high for what you get. And probably i will receive a response from the office saying that I should call them and fix all the stuff. I've been there so many times and its always the same. This management is no good at all.
