Is it pricey? Yes Is it overpriced? No. The service, the food, and the view are all spectacular. The snapper lunch entree was fantastic. Excellent spice crust that turned into an excellent taco. My wife loved the black and blue mojito - mojito with blueberries and blackberries. Very tasty. The servers are always around making sure that our drinks are filled and table clean of dirty plates. Pricey but if you can afford it, it is a pleasurable dining experience with a view of the beach. Food is high end Mexican, fresh and flavorful. Not your typical Mexican chain restaurant. Staff was attentive. They had live music which was nice - sounded like the Gypsy Kings We started with the guacamole which was made table side. You can choose ingredients and how spicy you want it. I had the Chef Sampler of 2 pork ribs, 2 crab tacos and 2 mini chicken flautas. All were excellent with bold flavors. How this made top ten I'll never know. Took FOREVER for food to come out even though there were only four of us in the entire restaurant. The $12 "tacos" were minuscule and not even worth eating. Each contained one small bite of chicken. I sent mine back because I refuse to be ripped off. These tacos would not even be considered appetizer portions at any other restaurant. Cantina is a cute beach restaurant at the Ritz Carlton Key Biscayne location. The food is just ok, but the service is definitely great. We ordered guacamole as an appetizer, and we were treated to a live demonstration of its preparation. The guacamole demonstration was fantastic and the fresh guacamole with lime, cheese, onion, and a hint of jalapeño was my favorite part of the meal. For my main course, I ordered the tacos de atun (tuna tacos), which lacked flavor. I found this to be surprising because tuna naturally is a flavorful fish, so the transformation of the tuna in this taco was unsuccessful. Another member of my party ordered mahi mahi tacos, which had fried fish inside of a soft taco, and the fish was succulent and delicious. While it was not the best mahi mahi taco I've had, it was better than the tacos de atun. I also ordered the ultimate margarita, which was very watered down, as was the case with all the drinks we ordered that night. Overall I think the food is overpriced for what it is, and if it was a stand alone restaurant I probably would not come back; however I do think it does give the hotel some charm. read more

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Miami (better said Key Biscayne). The ceviche is the best ceviche I have ever tried. The Sangria is beyond good. The food is real, authentic tasting Mexican food. I have always as a main course the Carne Asada which is hands down amazing as well. I have never had a bad experience in this restaurant and the food has always been incredible. The servers have always been very friendly and attentive. The location is beautiful since its located in the Ritz Carlton at Key biscayne so the restaurant is right in front of the beach looking out to the water. No doubt the service was very amenable and the views on a nice day (ours was dark and windy) are spectacular, but the food is far below mediocre and very overpriced. My beef enchiladas had 5 times more cheese than beef (and waiter admitted they were "pre-made" so we couldn't make adjustments). My wife's vegetarian fajitas (a makeshift item since they don't really have any vegetarian options) were small and dull. Guacamole was ok though very heavy on the lime. The cocktail was sugary and syrupy, clearly using packaged mixes. And everything was super overpriced to boot. If you're on resort and absolutely must have Mexican, I guess go here. Otherwise stay clear, and certainly don't make the trip if you're not staying at the Ritz. read more

I satisfied my craving for Mexican food! When it comes to Chef Andres Parlange's Mexican food, two forces dominant: super-fresh ingredients and an artists touch to finding that perfect balance of flavor and aroma. We first experienced his cooking last year, and on returning this year, my son lived off his guacamole and hand crafted salsa (day 5 and going strong). His guacamole isn't the mushy, over mixed, miss-seasoned stuff you experience in most restaurants. It's the perfect blend of chunky avocado, cilantro, onion, tomato, lime and seasons.... its looks like a celebration and is a fiesta in your mouth. He ups the game with his old world salsa, the kind you would expect an aunt who never shares her recipe to make. There is an ever so light smokiness to it. The ceviche isn't a simple marinated finish, the onion slices are marinated, the fish lightly seasoned. The fish, marinated onions, cilantro and assembled so you experience layers of taste. Too many restaurants attempt to make it in bulk, letting all the ingredients sit together, developing a single simple taste. The fish tacos have an excellent presentation. He doesn't throw the ingredients together and throw them in a shell. The dish includes a large filet of fish, cooked to perfection and a perfect meal unto itself. It was almost a shame to eat it in corn or flour wrap. Then there are accouterments to build the fish taco. The presentation was clean. Photo perfect. I also enjoyed both the steak quesadilla (pool side) and the Fajitas Al Carbon(restaurant). I'm guessing it was a classic, Mexican-style grilled skirt steak, or Carne Asada, thinly sliced beef dipped in lime juice, garlic and salt, then seared over an open fire. There was much more to it, but I could not pick out the flavors. I would order it again just to pick apart the flavors. I'm usually a food snob, and had low expectations for Miami and Key Biscayne. I have been spoiled by some of the most perfect restaurants in NYC, Chicago, San Francisco, Tokyo, Rome, Ascoli, and many other little towns that dot Europe. I'll also swear the first french food is served in Tokyo. I was surprised that Mexican food could reach this level of flavor and texture. Amazing. read more

The service at the Cantina was horrible. They seem to treat the hotel guests 1st class but everybody else as coach. Food too way too long to come out. Even the drinks we ordered took a long time. $50 cutting charge for a cake was embarrassing when somebody at another table got the staff to come out and change the music for just a muffin & a candle. I'm sure the overnight stay is up to par but they aren't doing anything for the casual guest. Would not recommend. And the food wasn't that great either. Felt very unauthentic tricking people for the Mexican name for an American / franchised taste. read more

Beautiful beachfront dinig spot on Key Biscayne! It is inside the Ritz Carlton so it is a little pricey but you get what you pay for. The food is out of this world Mexican fare and the staff is always super friendly. They almost always have live music playing. It is good for the kids as they have dishes for everyone and fruit smoothies which are delicious (yes, I tried one, don't judge me...)
