Our hotel recommended this place as we arrived at 10pm & were hungry. Upon sitting down we noticed French fries in the menu so I was prepared for an average tourist meal. Boy was I surprised. We ordered: Burrata salad - amazing! Butrata was so fresh & the salad greens were perfect. Shrimp & polenta - the shrimp was perfectly salty and paired with the creamiest polenta. I love polenta and this blew me away. Ravioli with truffle - the pasta you could tell was freshly made in house and just delicious. This restaurant is off the beaten path away from the tourist areas. Tiramisu - yummy! Light and not too sweet. The perfect ending to our first meal of this visit. I wanna gatekeep this place but I feel like the nearby hotels have already told many about it. A group of friends and I had dinner at this classic Italian restaurant this evening. The restaurant is situated right on the canal just a short walk from Academia bridge. We all ordered seafood dishes and each one was delightful. I loved the lightly fried seafood platter which was large enough to fill me. A Gem by the Canal that I highly recommend! We recently had lunch here at Cantinone Storico and found it a treasure with excellent food in a great location tucked right by the canal and perfect for watching the boats and relaxing. I'm not sure if it was the time we went (around 2 pm), but it's not in the middle of the usual tourist madness - it's more like a quiet neighborhood with primary apartments and only a few shops like the small art gallery next door. It was the perfect place to unwind and watch the boats go by. The menu is traditional Venetian and Italian cuisine. I ordered Spaghetti with Clams, and my wife had Tagliatelle with Scampi. My spaghetti was cooked to perfection - al dente, just as it should be (which I never get right at home), and the clams were so excellent with the garlic, white wine, and herbs. It's such a simple dish, but the balance was perfect. My wife's tagliatelle was equally delicious, with a light sauce that allowed you to taste the flavor of the fresh shrimp. The service was professional and efficient. Our server was all business. He took our drink orders immediately after we sat and quickly followed up with our lunch order, which made me happy since we were hungry and ready for a drink after a lot of walking. Cantinone Storico is a great restaurant with authentic Italian cuisine, a serene ambiance, and excellent service. It's nice to sit next to the canal and luckily this restaurant serves quality meals. I ordered the salmon with a side dish of spinach cooked in butter . Both were superb , and cooked to perfection . The water glasses are beautiful Murano hand made glass . Very good value and outdoor ambience for the price! Definitely eat here is you don't want to get stuck with a shitty meal from one of those touristy spots near the main attractions. The hotel recommended Cantinone Storico on our first night in Italy. Completely underwhelming, except for the view. It was enjoyable to sit outdoors right on the canal. The bottle of red wine we ordered was excellent and perfectly chilled. Was it significantly marked up in price, absolutely. But reading through the previous reviews, I wasn't surprised by the price of food or wine. My mom started with a salad. As others have commented, it was rather unimaginative. But it's a salad, nonetheless. My husband and I split the prosciutto with melon. It was presented exactly how it sounds: prosciutto sitting on top of melon. My husband and I ordered the daily risotto with prawns and mushrooms. Was it the best risotto I've ever had? No. It didn't even come close. The flavors were basic. It was an entree that both my husband and I wanted to order, but we did find it odd that it was for a minimum of two people, even though it came out plated completely separately. Seeing that it is the risotto of the day, not sure why we both had to order it. My mom had the gnocchi in a Gorgonzola cream sauce with walnuts. She said the gnocchi were light and fluffy, but also commented the dish was bland. While we did not have dessert, we were provided with complimentary shots of limoncello, which was much appreciated. The wait staff was also very friendly (which is wholly why we gave this restaurant a 4 Star instead of a 3 Star). read more

This was by far my favorite place to dine in Venice. Located in a quiet romantic corner of Venice with picturesque views and great service. Open late (11:00pm) which is great for those traveling who may still be adjusting to the time change. We tried the ravioli, gnocchi, and mushroom chicken and the torta di cioccolato de lave con gelato vanigla (lava cake with vanilla ice cream) and everything was delicious. My mistake to order a liver and onions Venitian style and pay big dollars. It was good but ---. The chicken breast with mushrooms was good, the three way fish appetizer was excellent, the mushroom soup was very good, the pasta with prawns was also very good. Service was very good. The food was amazing.. After going on a tour this restaurant was recommended and it diffidently did not fall short. The food was well- seasoned and tasted fresh. The waiting staff was amazing and extremely helpful with translating the menu. This is a local restaurant and you don't have to worry about it being a tourist trap. Ended up here two nights during my stay as it was super close to my hotel. Staff is friendly and helpful but if you aren't aware, you will have to flag someone down to pay your tab. Food: -mixed greens salad - good size for the price but know that a lot of the greens are peppery/have a strong flavor on their own if you are not used to it. As in most of Italy, no dressing but they give you olive oil, balsamic and salt/pepper to dress it yourself -ravioli w/sage butter sauce - comes with EIGHT ravioli which is huge and amazing. Taste is spot on! -potato soup - was lacking salt and in the end, I enjoyed the warmth from it but it wasn't worth the price. -tiramisu - wasn't amazing to me. Strong on the amaretto. FYI - I sat inside one day because of rain and watched the bar tender and another server try to figure out how to make mixed drinks for a family that ordered a bunch FROM THE MENU. Pro: open late on a Tuesday when the vast majority of choice restaurants are closed. Con: they're open late on a Tuesday when the vast majority of Venetians are asleep and dumb tourists are wondering around. The food is bad. I should have ran away the minute I saw the menu was in four languages. I knew better, but stayed because I felt bad walking out (and I was hungry and didn't haven many options). Very stale bread, masked as "garlic" bread was the second glaring indication we were in trouble. Spaghetti and clams was the saltiest pasta dish ive ever had, inedible. Truly inedible. My pallet was wrecked. The pasta with smoked ricotta and vegetables was tasteless (unsalted pasta water??), but at least something edible? Just a rip off tourist location for idiots like me who know better (or in the case of other people, don't know better) and should have stayed away. The service wasn't great, which I get, it was a late hour and I'm sure the wait staff and kitchen wanted to go home. But that's just not an excuse for inedible food. If I only just had kept walking. At least it only cost me €37 and a bruised ego for the troubles. read more

Dinner choices in Venice are every where. We have not had anything that wasn't good. It was a very busy night and they fit us in without reservations. Very good service. I'm guessing you can't go wrong with any of their menu items. If you sit outside you will have a better evening however our opinion was their food is average. read more

We ate at this restaurant by chance. It is slightly off the beaten track on the way to S.Salute, on the side of a small canal. We ate outside even though it was not particularly warm, which was a good choice as we later found (and other reviewers have noted) that it gets pretty hot inside. We shared gratinated scallops as a starter, which were delicious and beautifully presented in scallop shells. I then had first class veal in orange sauce with a side of perfectly-cooked french fries and my wife had tagliolini with crab, which she said was very good and we shared a fresh and tasty mixed salad. We washed it all down with a bottle of Lugana Bertini (see photo) which was a good choice. The service was measured but effective (i.e. slightly slower than we would have wished but not so slow as to be annoying). The ambience was superb: enough people and boats going past to be interesting, but without being too noisy or obtrusive. I can strongly recommend it if you are in that part of Venice; I don't think it is sufficiently wonderful to justify a special trip there. read more

We had the rice of the day (ony made for at least 2 people and takes 20 minutes of waiting) which happened to be Asparagus Rice. It was really good. Well worth the wait. We ordered also small house salads and the Crema Catalan (like Creme Brulee) flamed of course at your table. Outside tables are next to a canal and have a lovely atmosphere. Very few of them. Our family has an excellent meal here. The spaghetti alla vongole was probably the best I've eaten, and we shared the bass baked in salt which was tender, extremely fresh and delicious. Wonderful small restaurant steps away from the Peggy Guggenheim Museum. As others have said, be sure to get a table right by the canal. We ordered spaghetti with scampi and branzino with orange, onion and pine nuts. Both were wonderful, but the highlight was the panna cotta for dessert! Reasonable prices, great service by our server Anna. She even called a water taxi to pick us up at the restaurant and return us to our hotel.
