Lovely dinner experience. The restaurant has a casual vibe with upscale service. Wine selections it amazing and easily paired with dishes. My husband had the most amazing seared Seabass. It was fluffy ,moist and cooked with care. I had a lovely eggplant Lasagna . It was Gooey in the center and light crispy cheesy edges, to die for. We also Noticed everyone was ordering the Famous venetian black pasta. So we ordered it and it was amazing not too salty not too fishy, perfect. I would highly recommend coming here. We just finished dinner in Trattoria da Jonny, which was recommended by AI. Unfortunately we had bad experience dining there. One dish we had ordered was veal liver with polenta. This was a very delicious dish and I will rate it as excellent. The other dish we ordered was recommended by the waiter, a baked monk fish with vegetables. The fish was not fresh, and had a strong fishy smell. We were barely able to finish it. I am very surprised to have a not fresh seafood dish in a Venice restaurant. (Because Venice is surrounded by water). After we had finished the dinner, the waiter asked us how wad everything. I told him the liver dish was excellent, and the fish dish was a disappointed. The waiter had insisted their seafood was fresh, and the only problem was because I had a bad taste. Oh mine. He asked me if everything ok? And I just gave my honest feedback. Our bartender from Dona Palace recommended this place for dinner. He was so right about it! Not near the crowds of San Marco and only a 10 minute walk. Small, quaint, comfortable. Server was funny, friendly, and not intrusive. Wish I remembered his name! Had the Octopus with broccoli, artichoke, tsaziki, and chips for a starter. Octobus was tender and the purees were amazing! Entree I had the macaroni with venison, blueberry, and cheese. To die for!! So flavorful and perfectly cooked. My friend had the steak with pumpkin and truffle. He said it was the best steak he's had in Italy (even beat the 2 Florentine steaks we tried). I wish I had more time in Venice because I would come back to try more dishes. We Discovered this hidden gem while lost on the streets of Venice. One thing we learned about Italy is that you really can't find bad food, however there are certain places that really go above and beyond when it comes to Superior food and service and this is one of those places. Everything about this place was wonderful. My family and I went for lunch. We sat outside which was nicely arranged with amble space. The aperol sprtiz were a great start. I got the pesto lasagna and my partner got the duck ragu. We also had in our group the brazzino, the cuddle fish, and the mackerel. All we're delicious and very fresh. The scallops were fantastic and the pasta was fresh. It could have used a little salt, but besides that everything was fantastic. It's a bit pricey, but the quality makes it worth it. You can rest assured your food is not frozen or pre made. If you want to get away from the crowd, do yourself a favor and give this place a try. I was shocked at how unprofessional the service was here. My friend and I ordered two pasta plates to split. Once the waiter brought us our food, we asked him for 2 new plates so we could easily divide the food. "Now?!" he replied. I had never encountered such rudeness from wait staff, which is especially surprising considering how much of a premium you pay for food at Jonny. And yet, despite the premium and the fancy descriptions, the food execution falls flat.The burrata ravioli tasted as if it was made with ricotta cheese instead, with poorly seasoned tomato sauce. The gnochhi was mushy and the sauce did not taste like black garlic at all. My friend and I asked to speak to the owner and let him know of how negative our experience was. He was very empathetic and understanding, and I appreciated that he listened to our concerns and offered us apologies. We stopped in and tried the 3 course tourist menu for 19 euros. The spaghetti alla Vongole was wonderful and so was the fish. It is a casual little restaurant and a great stop while strolling through Castello. There was some upkeep going on like drilling in the walls but that only lasted a little bit. We are around 3 so it was at the end of lunch and as we were leaving, the chefs were getting ready to have their lunch. I read the reviews for many places before heading to Venice and Trattoria da Jonny checked all the boxes for us. I booked a table for 6 form the States before we left for Venice and the minute I spoke to the person on the phone I knew this was a wonderful place. First, they speak excellent English and were so warm and friendly on the phone. This is an excellent space for families, even babies. The service was prompt, kind and attentive. The food, oh the food. Go with the lagoon catch of the day, sardines, calamari, shrimp, etc all lightly battered and fried to crisp perfection. The pastas were amazing and the wine selection was superb. It's not cheap eats by any measure, but then again, no where is in Venice. I can't wait to go back. read more

This was hands down the best restaurant we went to in Italy, much less Venice. The warm, inviting service we received from Matthew was unmet any place else. The wine recommendation was out of this world and the food was the best "Welcome to Italia" your taste buds could ever experience. This trattoria is far away from the action and nestled in the heart of Castello which was right where we were staying. I could not have asked for a better full-course dinner from start to finish. Yes yes yes!! Live in Venice? Visiting Venice? If you answered yes to one of those questions and you haven't been here yet, get your tush here ASAP! This place was ahhhhmazing. We ate here on our last night in Venice and it was the perfect end to the last three wonderful days in this enchanting, magical maze of a city. So let's break it down. The restaurant is the only restaurant in a quiet square. The outdoor seating is lovely and comfortable. The waiter was so ridiculously funny--just filled with one liners. They just kept on coming! He was very friendly. And now onto the most important part: the food. Wiiiicked good. We split the scallop gratin, pappardelle, and the tuna steak. The breadcrumbs in the gratin were good enough to eat on their own. The pappardelle was served with a guinea ragout and dried plums. Didn't taste the dried plums but the pasta was so soft and eggy. The tuna... Incredible. Encrusted with pistachios and served over a bed of sautéed fennel and caper berries. An incredible dish with incredible flavor combinations. Lastly, we had the tiramisu and caffe for dessert. The tiramisu seriously hit the spot and was probably the best we've had. Another great thing about this Jonny's? It's pretty affordable. Cheaper prices than other restaurants in the city with food twice as good. Please do yourself a favor and check this place out. read more

I had my 19 month old baby and they were wonderful with her. The menu had many options and the food was delicious. The turbot and seabream were delicious and their pasta was great as well. There were some things on the menu that they didn't have (certain vegetables) because they weren't fresh in season so the menu might alter, which I can appreciate. My wife and I are celebrating our honeymoon. While walking thru the streets, we happened upon Johnnys and boy was I glad we did.
