I just had the strangest Egg Foo Young ever. It looked like chicken fried chicken patties. Drowned in some light brown gravy that tasted anything but Chinese. The rice was cooked into the patties and since there is no salt used it was the blandest thing ever. Not even dumping 2 packets of soy sauce made up for the lack of flavor. And the vegetables? They consisted of a few bean sprouts. And I mean few. Was that even Egg Foo Young? I have no clue. It really looked like they gave us somebody else's food. Extremely disappointed. This is probably one of the worst restaurants in Barstow. My friend and I decided to try it out because we wanted to try a Chinese restaurant other than Panda Express big mistake.. I ordered the orange chicken it was absolutely disgusting swimming in a soup like orange sauce.. My friend ordered the Kung Pao chicken which the chicken was rubbery and flavorless... Revisited after re-opening recently. The service was sub-par. Waitresses taking their time in taking orders, not knowing the full menu. Where do I start. Table of four, 2 hours and 40 minutes start to finish. Meals came out approximately 15 minutes apart. Poor service is an understatement. Everytime they came out of the kitchen with a plate they would ask the whole place who had what they were carrying, then delivery whoever answered. The male server(owner?) Was wearing clothes that looked like he was working in cars all day and needed a belt like really bad! Definitely not presentable, or clean. We (there is 3 of us) were all pretty disappointed with our order tonight especially the main dish since we didn't get it which was cashew chicken. The #3 under Chinese Family Dinners. The pepper steaks were bland as was the gravy it came in. The egg rolls were just plain nasty as were the side of shrimp dumplings. There was no sour in the sweet n sour chicken and we didn't get any cookies tea or coffee. The food was devoid of any seasoning, it was just blah. Half way through our road trip, we stump upon this Chinese food. We were surprised to find Chinese food in the middle of no where. And that fulfilled our cravings. Great customer service. And we love the food. They not only have Chinese food, they have American food and they also sell alcohol too. My husband also grab an ice cold beer in this 109 degree weather. My kids each grab an Asian smoothies (it was so good like a snowy) and We'll definitely come back if were ever in town again. read more

So I called them the person who answered the phone said oh we normally put it under the chow mein so I answered there's none, she then said that we have to ask for it when we order even it says it comes with it in the menu, so I asked what's the excuse on the eggrolls there's no sauce and we ordered the big one she then said oh I apologize. I thought I had a review for this place from shortly after I visited, but I don't so here's my best shot at trying to remember. Food: Order sweet and sour shrimp and sweet and sour pork. The shrimp was fine but the pork was super hard and it seemed like they took old pork and battered it so they didn't have to through it away. The sauce itself was by far NOT the best I've had, but I can't honestly say it's the worst simply because I can't remember having worse but want to be honest. They get two stars because at very least the server was nice and didn't give us a problem when replacing the yucky s&s pork. It really makes me sad because I've been wanting chinese food for a hot minute, and was really looking forward to this stop, but since my hubby doesn't like it, I usually have to wait until he's traveling. read more

I ordered delivery for my family. We were so excited to have something different with delivery other then Pizza in Barstow. All to be disappointed. the quality of the food should have cost a lot less. The Egg rolls were absolutely disgusting. the cashew chicken.... well I will just say Didn't look like chicken. they shorted me on fried shrimp, egg rolls, rice, and drinks. The chicken on a stick Is a Joke. Why not just say "fried chicken legs" the breading on the fried foods were dripping with oil, and tasted like nothing but oil. I could go on all night. The only good thing was the food came fast. I called to complain, and the person on the phone had no idea what I was talking about... or he acted like it, and just kept asking me what I wanted to order. So frustrating. They just opened up a few days ago so I expected a bit of a wait. We waited about an hour and a half for a table which was fine. The floor was dirty around the table but the table was wiped down. Took about 35 minutes for someone to take our order (including the drink order). We had to repeat it a couple times then had to remind the waitress what was on the menu and what item should be included. After about 40 minutes my daughter got her steak (overcooked) and fries. We asked two or three times about the soup and plain white rice that was order she said it's coming. Waited another 20 minutes for food to start coming to the table. Still didn't bring the kids soup or the plain white rice. We asked again as well as some other missing food. They kept bringing the wrong food to our table and forgetting what we needed. Eventually they got most of our order to our table including the kids food. But kept missing the fried rice that came with the family dinner. When we were ready to leave they finally brought it out. Then they charged us for extra items so I had to get that removed. While waiting to pay they have a bunch of people standing by register (customers) all trying to order, or pay for their call in orders. It was just a mess all together. The food was cold and mostly breading, not very good. I won't be going back, I'd rather save the $100 and go somewhere better. read more

Been living in the high desert for almost 4 years and the best Chinese food I could find was Panda Express. I decided to give this place a try and this is the second time I've gone. The food is fresh. Beef and broccoli is so good and today I had their egg rolls. Seriously the best most freshest egg roll I've ever had. Also there sweet and sour chicken was great. Tried the Canton looking for a new place to eat in Barstow. Not that great..... We ordered a combination dinner. Sweet and sour pork was overcooked and the sauce tasted like candy. The egg foo young was just not appetizing looking sitting in a pool of brown gravy. The fried rice was well done. The fried shrimp was mostly batter with a small shrimp hidden inside. The only thing that saved the meal was the mushroom chicken. At first I was not impressed by this offering and then as a last resort I tried some spicy mustard on the chicken piece and it totally enhanced the food. The restaurant has been remodeled ..... ( it looks like a converted Denny's ) The portions are generous. The service is quick and very friendly. They have a large dinner crowd. The price of the meal was very modest. The pople that eat in the Canton are driven there by the large portions and the low price ...... It certainly is not for the quality of the food. read more

My husband got the fried chicken dinner platter, "it tastes about as strongly as the salad, which is to say barely". Portions were generous, especially for the fried chicken dinner. On the way from Las Vegas to Sequoia National park, we stopped at Barstow and try to find a Chinese Restaurant...this is the best Chinese food after we left home for 5 days! It's much better than the very expensive buffet in Bellagio that we just eat the night before! The very Chinese dishes were very well cooked and not salty not oily, they are so good and not very expensive. The owner is very friendly! Strongly recommend if you like real Chinese food! read more

Being a Barstow resident for 53 years, I don't understand the 3,4,or (gasp) 5 star reviews. FIRST of all, the restaurant is filthy with old, torn and ragged furniture. The bathroom smells (I won't give details, except to say "don't sit down!") SECONDLY, the food is inedible; "Chinese" style is greasy, and tasteless. The Canton has ALWAYS been a terrible place, but with other restaurants closing, it leaves nothing except a diner (such as Cocoas). For those "just driving through," beware: BUT FOR "The Sizzler," or "Plata's" - Barstow has NO good places to eat. If I were YOU, I'd get gasoline, go pee, and keep on driving. read more
