Stopped by Young Dim Sum today and this place did not disappoint. Everything we ordered came out fresh, hot, and full of flavor. We got the stir-fried beef noodles, egg rolls, pot stickers, and the fried buns with condensed milk, and every dish was on point. The stir-fried beef noodles were the star -- super tender beef, perfectly cooked noodles, and great wok flavor. The egg rolls were crispy and filled just right, and the pot stickers were juicy with that perfect sear on the bottom. The fried buns were surprisingly good too -- warm, fluffy, and even better dipped in the condensed milk. Victoville: Small place tucked near Von's in large shopping center. Served right away, what I'd call 'efficient' - quick, straightforward, no frills. Beef potstickers: Appealing looking but awkward to eat and seemed prepared from frozen. The meat was a little roll floating in the middle of the thick wonton wrapper. Pan fried on one side, a bit rubbery. Shredded Cucumber salad with garlic flavor was good with decent fresh cucumber. Scallion pancakes. Greasy. Unable to detect any scallion or onion flavor so I opened it. Tiny specs of what had to be those dried chives or green onion flakes. Scant amount. This is a simple, cheap fix for a usually delightful side order: Just chop up some fresh green onions and throw them in there. Easier on the oil & these would've been pretty good. Wouldn't order this unless they revamp this simple app. Distracting banging around of pots and pants in background. I guess it was pot washing time. We were up in Hesperia running errands and stumbled across this little spot for baos and dumplings. Since we were low-key craving something in the Din Tai Fung lane, we decided to give it a try. Now, let me just say--this isn't a copycat situation. If you're chasing the exact Din Tai Fung experience, you won't find it here. But if you just want something in the same family that scratches the itch a bit, it does the job. We ordered the cold noodles, chicken dumplings, cold chicken, and a bowl of soup. The cold chicken came with a spicy sauce that wasn't fiery hot--it didn't burn your tongue--but instead left this kind of numbing sensation on the lips. Interesting, but not quite the flavor punch I was hoping for. The dumplings and noodles were decent, nothing bad or off, just not super memorable. The vibe of the restaurant is small and simple--probably about seven or eight tables in total. The service was friendly and on point, which I always appreciate. Felt like having some dim sum while in Victorville. By no means is this city known for their Chinese food, so I honestly had very low expectations about this place. Especially as we were walking up to it, and it's located right in the middle of a strip mall right next to Petco and Vons. Inside is so so. Not too many tables to sit at. Victorville's first dim sum spot is so good! I came on a Saturday night and all the food was so fresh. The service was fast and the host was very nice. I tried the Xialong bao (soup dumplings), steamed pork buns, custard buns, beef roll up pan cake, and chive pan cake with a side of black vinegar and soy sauce. Everything was delicious! We had 2 orders of soup dumplings because they were so comforting and soupy. There's plenty of seating and parking. The walls are decorated with Asian art which is really cool. This was our first time trying this spot and glad we finally have some diversity up here because The food was amazing! The xiaolong bao was delicious! The broth was so tasty! Loved the fried wontons as well. We also tried the sichuan spicy wontons that were recommended by the waitress and wow the first bite was delicious! The coffees were absolutely to die for definitely come by for just the coffee alone! The xiaolong bao was beautiful and steamed well. The pot stickers were good but not the best I've had. The white rice pairs well with all of the dishes really well. The braised lion has a soft meat flavor not very meaty (which for me is a good thing). The shredded cucumber is by far the most delicious thing on menu. Fried dumplings were absolutely amazing. The Chive dumplings were also delicious. The chicken feet aren't for everyone but it has a unique flavor. The scallion pancakes were also amazing. The custard buns and fried mini buns are a wonderfully sweet way to end a meal here! This is a good dim sum option for those who don't want to drive down the hill. Convenient location in the Victor Valley Town Center with plenty of parking. The inside is very clean and nicely decorated. I love that you have the option to just sit yourself and order from the QR code at your table (which you can also use to pay) or order with the waiter/waitress. Shout out to the girl working the front today - she was super sweet and made sure we had everything we needed. The food isn't blow-your-mind amazing, but it's definitely worth a try! The BBQ Pork Buns and Scallion Pancake in particular were delicious. The Shanghai Dumplings (not pictured) were okay - a little dry and not very flavorful. Tip: try the pancake with the sweet and sour sauce that comes with the spring rolls - yum! Prices are fair - cheaper than Din Tai Fung or Thumbling for sure. The first restaurant to serve dim sum in the High Desert. Now I do not need to go down the hill to satisfy a dim sum fix. It is a good start. They have a good selection of the popular items for now. Hope to see more variety in the future. The Shrimp Dumplings and Pork Dumplings are usually the mainstay of the dim sum experience. You can sometimes determine a dim sum restaurant's quality based on these two items. They are pretty good here as for flavor. I couldn't really tell if they were made in house or from a cold packer but that is just me. The shrimp dumplings look like they were formed in a mold but that is okay because not everyone has the skills to make these consistently by hand. Pork Dumplings had a good amount of porky flavor and were generous in size. The Shrimp and Chive Dumplings had a nice filling but the dough was a bit heavy and chewy. They could be crisper with a thinner, flakier crust. Braised Chicken Feet were extraordinary good with a tender, gelatinous mouthfeel. These were delicious and had an appealing color. Be brave and eat these for their collagen content. They are practically medicine as for the benefits. Asians are encouraged to eat these at a young age in order to have pretty skin as we get older. On a side note, if you have ever eaten chicken soup that had a rich, golden color, chicken feet is the secret ingredient. Normally, chicken soup has a pale yellow coloration. I wish there were a few more feet in the order since three doesn't seem enough. I would come here for these alone. Get the treat that is feet. The Chive and Shrimp Tofu Skin was on their Specials board. These were crispy with a good amount of filling. The texture of the fried tofu skin was good. Beef Balls were rather unspeakable here, unfortunately. I was expecting the tender meatballs flavored with tangerine peel and served with Worcestershire sauce found in other dim sum restaurants. These were made from a beef paste, were very dense, and had an odd flavor. They resemble the beef balls with tendon that is usually found in Pho. The size was huge for something that didn't taste so great. I planned on slicing them to put in ramen later but ended up just tossing them in the trash. The Sesame Balls were very good albeit a little small in size. They were fresh and hot when I got them. The order came in an even number so couples can each have two. I ordered a Beef Chow Fun since this dish is kind of hard to find up here. (The Thai Pad See-Eww dish is similar and makes a great substitute if one can't find Chow Fun.) This was made with soy bean sprouts instead of the usual mung bean sprouts. I personally do not like the flavor of soy bean sprouts but do not let this deter you from ordering this from Young Dim Sum. It was still very tasty with a bit of caramelization flavor from the wok. Try the Beef Chow Fun here as comparison or for a change from the usual preparation. All in all, this is a good place to have dim sum in the High Desert. I look forward to more items on the menu in the future. read more
