A couple of years ago I went to Cantrelle and they were still in Pleasant Hill. I brought in my laptop that needed a new screen and they told me that the cost of the screen and installing it would be more than the laptop is worth and they suggested that I buy one of their refurbished laptops instead for around the same price that it would have been to fix the laptop that I brought in, around $300. They told me that they would do the data transfer and make sure that the refurbished laptop would be the same as my old one. We had a set rate for the data transfer but then the next day they told me they would have to charge an extra because it took longer than they expected to transfer data today we all know it takes sometime to transfer data but it's somethings you can just set up at night and check it again in the morning and that will be all set. So they ended up charging me extra for the data transfer because I have too much data on my laptop and they were not really polite about it. I could have easily done the data transfer myself but since I was buying a refurbished laptop there I was just trying to get everything done in one place. About a month and a half after purchasing the laptop the screen goes out. And the price of getting that screen repaired would have been more than the laptop is worth and I was working out of town in Lodi at the time so I couldn't just drive back and take it in to show them. I know that computer repair places need to make a profit but Cantrell was unprofessional and ripped me off. I still kept the laptop and a few weeks later my coworkers had suggested I could buy the screen online and install it myself which I just happened to do the other day thanks to a YouTube video. That reason that I did not repair it earlier was because I just ended up buying a new laptop when I was in Lodi. Long story short, if you have trouble with your computer then just look for a solution on line or go to geek squad because they won't be worried about milking every penny they possibly can from you. And look out for buying anything we focus on Cantrell. Maybe they have gotten better with this but I would not know because they lost my business along time ago read more

I went through some wacky times with my ultrabook and ended up asking them to recommend a new computer for me: I will never buy again without their advice. They have replaced hard drives for me, re-vamped a mac computer for my kids, updated routers....Through thick and thin with infinite patience while educating me too, if I wanted that. My laptop computer crashed and I took it to Cantrells. Amar diagnosed the problem as malware and called with cost to repair the computer. He was no only able to save my computer, he also took the time to show me how to back up my 6000 photos that were on the computer and some tricks to make that a fast process. I trust Computer Sales and Service for all of my computer headaches! I've utilized their service both in the shop and remotely and have had great success with both. These guys know their stuff and won't let your computer return home until is meets their very high standards. Waited 7 days to get an apointment. I bring it in the day before, so they could started right away. First day they didn't even touch it, second day end of the day they start to look at it. Could not find the problem. Third day they said we have to repair it or swap out for a new computer. The old one was only 9 months old. They never called at the end of the day like they said they would with up dates. So today ( total of 9 days having my broken computer) I decided to swap out for a new one they had in stock, same price as they old one. I go today and they said they would swap the data out on to the new one, I call round 4:55 pm, the monring tech didn't leave a note for afternoon tech to do this, so we r on day ten or day 17 since i waited 7 days to get a frigging appionted. I am pateint man, I need my computer for work. I am getting pissed now. If they dont have it ready tomrrow, I want my money back. I would not use them again ever. read more

I was thinking about building a computer with my 12 year old son that wanted a gaming computer (he has been saving his $). After much thought I realized it was unlikely that I would succeed since I had never built a computer from 'scratch'. So a friend told us about Cantrell's Computer and said they will help you build! Vance that works for Cantrell's was assigned to help. He first put together a list of parts for my son to 'approve'. After the parts arrived a date and time was set for the build. Vance knew his stuff and explained each step and what each part was for in the computer. My son being 12 mainly watched and learned the steps (he did assist when possible). Vance was open to questions and giving my son much needed advice. Vance was patient, and took his time. About ~ 3 hours later a 'home' built good quality gaming computer was up and running. I had my computer repaired and everything was fine UNTIL prior to me leaving the store (the employee of course had to show me that everything is working fine before I leave), Shahab turned my computer on and the password prompt came up and he said "Oh, did you give me your password?" That remark was "very puzzling" because HE KNEW I gave him my password a week prior. Later on someone had told me that he DIDN'T need to ask for my password because he was only replacing the battery (that was the only thing wrong with it). I am very worried about identity theft and some stranger accessing my files and documents in my computer. The only reason why he asked for my password is to snoop around in my computer. Just because I'm young and female, he thought I wouldn't suspect anything. I will never use this company again! read more

I cannot comment on how effective their computer repair skills are, since I did not need technical support - but I can comment on how their customer service is, which is to say that it is terrible. A few weeks ago I bought a new laptop and decided to sell my old one. Having known about Cantrell's computers for a while I decided to skip the private market and have them make me an offer on the system. So I take it in. Not only was the shop disorganized, dirty, and filled with the carcasses of old systems, but there was barely any acknowledgement that I was there. After getting someone to assist me, I dropped of the laptop for the traditional evaluation. I was told that, due to the Thanksgiving holiday, it would take a little bit longer to get the system reviewed for purchase. Okay, fine. Two weeks go by and I have not heard anything so I start calling in. No-one seemed to know what was going on with the system, and only after the third call did I confirm that it was indeed going to be purchased by them. However, a technician still needed a 'final review' to approve the purchase. So I wait again...another week goes by. This is now THREE+ WEEKS SINCE I DROPPED OFF THE SYSTEM FOR A SIMPLE YES/NO ANSWER. So they decide to buy it, and I hear that I can come pick up a check from them any time after Tuesday that week. I call Tuesday - NO CHECK. The accountant was out? Ok. It will be ready by Thursday. I call again late Thursday - still I have to remind the techs on the phone who I am, why I am calling, and what I am referring to. STILL NO CHECK! So finally I am told it will be ready FOR SURE by the weekend, come in on the weekend. Well - I come in the late afternoon Sunday, and would you guess it? STILL NO CHECK. I am pissed at this point. Bad customer service, ZERO communication, ZERO coordination, unprofessional to say the least. This is FOUR WEEKS for a simple $80 check for an old laptop. This should have been a three-four day process AT MOST. I threaten to take my laptop back and sell it privately, which finally spurs some action out of these jokers. They call the head boss and he SWEARS to me that a check will be mailed out on Monday. Well, Wendesday I finally get a check in the mail. They followed through on their word - FOR ONCE IN FOUR WEEKS. I swear, I will never do business with this place again. What a displeasing, unprofessional experience. I sure hope their computer repair skills are better than their customer service skills! read more

It's not a good think when you're a Realtor and your Computer stops working. Last week I sat down to write an offer for a client on a home and for whatever reason, I could not access any of my website links. I brought my laptop into Cantrell's to show them the problem and the problem was gone. I returned home and there was the problem again. I called back the shop and within an hour Alex was at my house working on my Computer. He had me back up and running within 30 minutes. This was not anything that I would have had any idea how to fix. I can't thank Cantrell's enough for the service they provide. Alex was amazing. Not only did he fix the problem, but he took additional time to answer a few other questions that I had. Not only was my computer problem fixed, but he made my computer more secure and even helped me figure out how to backup files with a WD "My Passport" drive that was sitting in the box for the last couple of months.
