I had the pleasure of dealing with the folks at Cantu Nursery over the last few days. Family owned business with very fair prices. I purchased a 30 gallon Monterey Oak tree. Tree was delivered and planted the very next day. I also had them deliver and spread 2.5 yards of mulch. The 3 man crew, led by Osiel, were efficient, hard working, and friendly. I bought two oak trees in 45 G containers and paid for the planting and the installation of bubblers for the trees. The trees were planted on May 1st 2023 and the cost for everything came to $1946.34 - clearly not cheap. I was willing to pay that much as there was a 1 year guarantee. The house has a sprinkler system and is a rental. My renters informed me in July that the trees had died. When I checked, the bubblers were clearly working and the lawn was green indicating the trees were being watered along with the rest of the yard. I called the nursery and enquired about the guarantee. The owner came out and accused me of not watering the trees. I explained that his company had installed the bubblers and the yard was clearly being watered given the lawn and surrounding shrubs were healthy. Then he accused me of using some chemical that he says could be seen around the base of the tree - like I would use a chemical to kill tress that cost me almost $2000!. Bottom line - he said he was refusing to honor the warranty. As you can see from other reviews, this is his standard mode of operating. Don't fall for it and go elsewhere. If it is a common tree, buy it from home depot that has a real 1 year warranty. I subsequently bought two 30 gallon trees for $150 each and planted them myself after pulling out the ones Cantu planted. They are doing great! I warned him that I would be writing a review of my experience and he said to go ahead and added "Three is no worse blind that the one that doesn't want to see" - what ever that means. I must say that before dealing with Mr. Cantu, my experience with Gabby, the lady who made all the arrangements was excellent. To bad the owner can't learn from her. read more

I'm surprised to be the first to leave reviews. I reached out to Cantu Nursery through email in hopes of getting a favor. With the extreme heat we've had here in the Austin/Round Rock area, our trees and plants feel distressed. A well-established tree in my backyard was dying and in need of TLC if it were going to survive. I sent an email with pictures asking for suggestions to keep it alive. One stop shopping and installation. Unfortunately we had a tree that didn't make it this summer. Called Cantu and Gaby offered suggestions on replacements and even sent pictures of what they had in stock. We stopped by and Mr. Cantu was very helpful in validating what would work well for our yard. The install was fantastic, they removed the dead tree and put the new one at a more reasonable distance than the builder. The team even moved the bubbler and used some of the sod from the new location to patch the old. If it had been sod season, you wouldn't have ever known they had just dug a big hole and planted a new tree. Thank you all, we will definitely be back. read more

We spent prover $2500 for Palm Trees, fruit trees andofessional delivery and installation. Cantu guarantees their trees for 1 year. Over the worst winter storm of this life time our Palm Trees died. We spoke with the nursery and they said there was nothing they could do. The lady in the office said the owner was out of town but would have him call us. Three weeks went by with no reply, we went back to Cantu Nursery. We finally spoke face to face with the owner and he said the only thing he would do for us is a buy one get one with delivery and installation for another $900. We asked him to honor the guarantee and replace both trees but he refused. We have been fighting the amount for 2 Palm Trees plus taxes with our credit card company. Cantu sent in a form showing an updated guarantee to include an "Act of Nature" clause; where if a tree dies because of a freez the guarantee is void. They are deceitful. By stating that this clause was created before our purchase shows how lacking in morality and honor this company is. read more

We went to Cantu Nursery to look for some shrubs to use for privacy screening in our backyard. Gaby was very helpful and recommended Wax Myrtles. I had showed her photos of the area we needed coverage for and she was able to accurately calculate how many Myrtles were needed. We had them planted by the nursery too and couldn't be happier. Delivery on time as promised and extremely reasonable compared to other bids. Mr. Cantu was a pleasure to work with! He gave us the best price... about half of what Home Depot was going to charge. They showed up on time and did a killer job on our backyard. His employees talk very highly of him which says a lot. You can tell he really takes care of his workers and his customers and he is passionate about landscaping. Love Cantu's collection of native and sub-tropical plants. They have great prices and the plants are in great condition. I've purchased a multi-trunk red oak from them and also a rostrata yucca plant. 18 months later, both are flourishing. I also purchased some small banana plants and those are now 20 feet tall. I was looking to have a bunch of landscaping done in our backyard and started looking to consult with a company. Cantu was recommended to me so I scheduled an appointment with Luis Cantu. The appointment was for 4pm on a day I had to be in San Antonio. So I wrapped up down in San Antonio early to be home by 3:30 and ready for the 4pm appointment. At 4:15 I called to see where he was?? The lady said she would call him. He calls me back and says (mind you it's 4:20 by now) "I'm not going to make our 4pm appointment". REALLY? Then he says can I come at 5:30? ARE YOU KIDDING ME? He wanted to come an hour and a half later then the appointment that I rushed home to be here for! No thanks. Very unprofessional to make the appointment and then I HAD TO CALL THEM to ask where he was and he wants to come an hour and a half later. NOPE. If that's how they treat a potential customer I will take my business elsewhere. read more

I called on Monday and spoke with Gaby about acquiring a new Pindo Palm from Cantu Nursery and explained I would need them to deliver and plant it properly for me, as well as remove and dispose of an existing palm, and then dig the existing hole deeper just prior to planting the new tree. I sent her photos of the existing palm that was having problems and that needed to be removed and disposed of, and she was then able to email me a very reasonable quote for the removal/disposal process and the delivery/planting service for the new Pindo Palm. She scheduled it for Friday of the same week, and the two men that came out were very polite and considerate and showed extreme attention to detail, not only in getting the old Palm removed without damaging my lawn or paver driveway next to the tree, but positioned the new Pindo palm perfectly straight and centered within a curbed circle that surrounds the tree, and after using quality dirt and mulch, they replaced the decorative Colorado rainbow rocks within the curbed circle, then finished up by watering the tree and swept up and used a blower to clean up the area around the tree and paver driveway next to the new Palm. Amazing efficiency all done in about 3 hours, and on the same week as I requested the quote! The new Palm is beautiful and matches my two other existing Pindo palms beside it in the yard, and just looks like it has always been part of the landscape. Cantu Nursery's Pindo Palm was of high quality compared to several other palms I had seen at other nursery's in Austin. A perfect match to my other larger palms in my yard. Also, Gaby was extremely nice, efficient and knowledgable and I am sure I will be requesting their service for additional trees and landscaping needs in the future. Our elementary school needed some new trees to replace ones that had died in the past few years where it now looked so bare. We wanted drought tolerant trees at a good price. As the PTA representative for our outdoor areas, I contacted a few companies and never heard back from them. I stopped by Cantu nursery and they were so helpful right away. Mr. Cantu set up an appointment to come to our school and meet with the principal about our project to get the t's crossed and i's dotted. Within a couple of weeks, we had beautiful new trees installed at our school. There prices are good, a fair selection, friendly staff but they do NOT back up their guarantee. After spending over $1000 last year (2016) on various purchases there, his crew one purchase included planting a Spanish Dagger we purchased there. Within a period of about two months we noticed it was drying up, leaves were discoloring. We stopped by and told them of it and were advised it was under warranty and it would be checked out. After a few weeks went by and no one came out to check it we stopped by again and finally a short time later there was a business card left on our door. I stopped by and was told by Mr. Cantu, the owner, that we "drowned the plant" with our irrigation system. We've showed pictures of the plant root and discussed this with two other nurserymen, and both said there's no way the plant would have "drowned" over a period of a few months from an irrigation system; plus the fact Mr. Cantu and staff never advised us the Spanish Dagger needed little to no watering, and and should have noticed the sprinkler head nearby when installing the plant and advised us. His loss of our business is another's gain as we're embarking on a major landscaping project for our pool Again, good prices, OK selection, friendly staff; but do NOT trust their guarantee. read more

I'm not sure what's going on with this place. When I went to look for plants, none of the plants were labled with any sort of information. There was a poor selection. I couldn't find anyone who worked there to help me, nor could I find a cart to put the plants I wanted onto. It's also a mystery to me where I was supposed to check out (I didn't end up buying anything, I just left when I became too frustrated). There's a building with a little gift-shop kind of thing set back from the nursery area and that's got a register, but it's up on steps and I'm almost sure the intention of the nursery isn't for customers to lug all their plants up and down the stairs and into their office building. This place was bizarre and oddly deserted for a Saturday. I ended up going to Round Rock Garden Center, which was a million times better. read more
