I came to the Round Rock Garden Center today just because I love to be here! It's such a cheerful place to browse, however I always seem to buy something-- and today, I was not disappointed. They take such a good care of their plants here. You don't see any wilting or dying plants you only see thriving plants. And also, they have such unusual plants that I don't find anywhere else. Today I saw LITHOPS which are living rocks. They're not actually rocks are actually little plants, but they look like rocks. So interesting! I also found Coral Bells in two different colors. I cannot resist these. They are going to make an excellent addition to my garden. This store is medium priced, but their plants are high-quality. I will again come to the store to browse, and most likely I will purchase something else Amazing! In addition to plants, they have pots and trellises and soil and everything that you would need to build your garden. Their employees are also quite knowledgeable and helpful. I had a really lovely experience at the Round Rock Garden Center today and wanted to leave a review. Last year I mentioned that if you're trying to completely re-do an entire garden in one trip, big box stores can sometimes be cheaper. BUT this year I tried something different I made a list on the Home Depot app and decided to stop by Round Rock Garden Center first to see what I could actually get cheaper locally. And honestly, I was pleasantly surprised. I ended up getting multiple garden beds worth of plants here ...three tomato plants (including a beautiful variety called Rapunzel suggested by a worker who didn't eat them but thought they're beautiful thanks girlie), four gorgeous marigolds, two sage plants, and the last Spanish lavender they had. The herb prices were great, and I loved that I could buy individual veggie plants instead of being forced to buy them in pairs like some places. The selection was also really nice they had varieties I definitely didn't see at Home Depot. What really stood out though was the staff. When I was checking out, I asked if they had any lavender because I hadn't spotted it (I'm honestly a little blind and sometimes overlook things ). One of the ladies at the register was so kind and actually walked out from behind the counter to show me exactly where the plant was. Another staff member in a pink staff shirt even walked me all the way to the back of the property to show me where both the English and Spanish lavender were. They were incredibly patient and helpful, and never made me feel silly for missing what was probably right in front of me. I ended up choosing the Spanish lavender because it was already blooming and a bit more established, and I'm really excited to get it planted. It was my first time at Round Rock Garden Center yesterday and I was impressed. They have their own parking lot (plenty of parking spaces) and all of the staff are so friendly and also knowledgeable about plants. They also have a photo spot so that you can flaunt it on social media what a nature enthusiast you are. The best part for me is, they have great selection of plants that are different than the big box stores or other nurseries, but it seems their perennials & annuals are pretty limited comparing to the other nurseries I go to. However, if you are looking for native plants (like American Beautyberry), mature native trees (for instance; Crepe Myrtle, Elm, Oak & Red Buds), and other hard to find plants at the big box stores (like Variegated Ficus Triangularis) (due to different rotation or timing), check out Round Rock Garden Center and you might get lucky. I was looking for Frost Proof Gardenias locally but couldn't find one. I always check local before I resource to my favorite trusted online tree merchant since it would be more expensive than the local stores. To my surprise, I found a better one at RR Garden Center. They have so many beautiful Gardenia varieties right now and I found my beauty; the variegated dwarf "Radicans" Gardenia. She is not fully variegated but that's what so cool about it. I am so impressed and happy!! The price point for some of the plants here are higher than others in my opinion but the conditions of some of the plants is better since they only have limited amounts of each variety and the plants don't crammed up on the shelf. Again, it depends on what types of plants you are looking for and the condition at each nursery, then you decide. For example, I found their Bougainvilleas are more expensive than the ones at our Texas big grocery store but theirs have less of the woody stems (means younger plant or/and they have been maintained/pruned to keep blooming & tidy) and the blooms are as pretty. I thought that this was one of the more expensive plant nurseries . Their plants didn't seem as healthy as Snoopers. Their prices were $14 for lantana and it was $8 at Snoopers. The bathrooms were very clean and I think they had free popsicles. read more

We went here looking for organic veggies and fruits for our garden. The selection for the organic items was not all that great at the time we went. However they do have a wide selection of non organic as well as lots of trees , pollinators, and other cool plants! They have lots of gardening supplies as well. It was a bit pricy IMO. We did grab a couple plants and a few organic tomatoes , eggplants and parsley . So far the plants are doing well it's been about a month since purchased. The staff was scattered around and really helpful with any questions we had. They do offer some free gardening classes which I have yet to take advantage of but I think it's pretty cool of them to offer, So I added the 4th star due to this. I would go back to take a class and view their selections as I understand they are always getting new items, but not sure how much I'd leave with due to competitor pricing. read more

What????? I've not reviewed this place? This is one of my top local garden centers. They have GREAT customer service, locally owned, and answer their phones. I've purchased so many things here over the years; my (now giant) red oak, numerous atypical colored crape myrtles, and tons of plants. I like the variety. I have so many different colored bougainvillea it's crazy. So pretty! They are also doing curbside pickup with ZERO surcharge. Now that's great customer service during a pandemic! read more

Want to give a big shout out to Round Rock Garden Center for their customer service. We were first helped by a young woman at the front checkout (didn't catch her name). She helped us get set up for delivery and answered many questions for us. As we were searching to find the plants we wanted, Hannah became our go-to person, she really was informative and patient. She offered several helpful suggestions for alternative items, which we liked better than our own ideas. On our way out we knew we had selected great plants and were looking forward to having them delivered. Fast forward to delivery day (today). The plants arrived almost to the exact minute they were supposed to. I asked the two young men who delivered them if they would mind putting them inside my back yard since we aren't ready to plant until next Monday. Not only did they do that cheerfully, but when we discovered one plant was missing the guys told us that they would go get the missing plant and have it to us this afternoon. I just got a text notifying me that the missing plant is now in my yard! I just checked and it is! I strongly recommend RRGC for all your garden purchases. Give them a visit. read more

As a professional microbiologist who taught microbial ecology at the University of Texas at Austin for 20 odd years, it was an accurate description on the benefits of keeping a good microbial flora in the soil of your plants and a good presentation of using his products to do so. Entertaining and worth the time. Kudos to Round Rock Garden Center for having him speak. read more

Not the biggest selection of plants and very pricey. However, inside their greenhouse they do have a little nice variety from time to time of house plants and succulents. The issue is their prices, sadly. I know they're a local/home owned business but I know several others that are as well and you can get way better prices. I have no idea who is paying that much money for a lot of really basic plants you can find elsewhere much cheaper. :( read more

I love to visit this nursery in the spring. There's a couple nurseries in Round Rock and I can easily say that Round Rock garden is go-to if you want bigger trees, not so easily available fruit trees. We went in for a persimmon tree and bought a 7 foot fuyu persimmon + a giant 30 gallon little gem magnolia tree. I could not believe we bought the magnolia because everywhere I searched, it was either too small or just not in great shape. This one was beautiful and right at the entrance. The fuyu persimmon was the last one left and was around $60. The tree was already flowering and the since it bent quite a bit, the manager was gracious enough to offer stakes for it. They had several other beautiful rose plants that I had an eye on but sigh, I could blow all my money on plants that one day so resisted. We opted for the delivery which is a flat $50 fee (charged per distance). Here what can be done better - The delivery could have been better because inspite if explicitly asking to call, no one called on the day of delivery. Second - There's quite a few folks working at the nursery at any time but no one we reached out to was able to answers for questions like any guarantees for larger trees, return policy, how to take care of a new tree, are the fruit tree self pollinating. We asked on different days to 4 different people so this definitely needs to get better because if this happened at Lowe's, I would have still understood. They reason why I walk into a a nursery is because they are supposed to know these details and people like to make an educated buy. I will be back though :) read more

From the outside, Round Tock Garden center looks like a small space with a limited selection, but once I finally got around to stopping my, I was pleasantly surprised by the selection. The plants are in amazing health and are for the most part, reasonably priced. I'm not a plantophile, so I am not sure how much more rare plants run, but they definitely have some that will cost you a pretty penny. The staff member I spoke with was extraordinarily helpful and gave me lots of tips on how to give the best start to my selections and was helpful in deciding which plants would do well for my particular space. Here's hoping I don't screw it up! They have a decent assortment of pots, but all were more than I was willing to spend, as I was seeking some large outdoor planters. read more

Possibly the worst nursery I've been to. Came by to check it out since I was curious but I will not be going back. Blonde cashier seemed like doing her job was such an inconvenience when asked a question. Wanted to get a price on some new plants not stocked yet and was rather rude. Decided to go ahead and purchase some plants as they looked overwatered and sad (and I was holding them anyway). She yanked the plant out of my husband's hands, knocked over the diffenbachia, and was just overall unpleasant. (SWIPE AGAIN. SWIPE TO YOU - she barked). Prices: plants are overpriced! A string of hearts was 74?! I bought a full, near blooming one in Brooklyn for way less than that. I guess this place wants to rip ya off. I dislike being negative but if you're in a forward facing job - be nice. I regret giving them money but it was a gift. Lesson learned. COVID notes: My husband and I both wore masks and tried to maintain a friendly distance - we saw 1 worker without a mask. This garden center is awesome and is doing some good for people who want to beautify their homes or grow their own food. I really appreciate the organizational layout of the items. It's easy to find plants based on their growing season, shade vs. sun, container plants, and edible varieties. The staff have been helpful with recommendations and informing me about the points system for purchases that earn you coupons for future visits. This garden center had a Great staff who are very helpful. We bought a new tree 7 month ago that was having trouble growing with the lack of rain and they helped advice on how to treat it. Then after a few weeks of treatment which unfortunately didn't help, they sent us a new Monterey oak tree and even delivered it to our house at no extra charge ..Wow! Well, I've stopped in here a few more times over the months just to see what they've gotten in houseplant-wise, and I've not been disappointed by their selection. I have, however, frequently been disappointed by their pricing. More on that in a bit. One of my biggest gripes in the past has been the staff, but I've really gotta hand it to them: the staff is SO much better these days! From the folks who are on the floor, so to say (roaming the grounds & greenhouse) to the checkout staff, everyone is WAY more friendly and even engaging than they've ever been. I've actually made fun small talk with the cashiers and floor folks every time I've been back lately. I especially love the young African American man who works the till--he's so outgoing and kind, and he's shared a couple tips with me over the last couple months, too. Pricing, though, is still almost always insane. For instance, they have hanging pots of hoya carnosa compacta (Hindu rope hoya) for $75, a single rooted hoya kerrii leaf for $21, and tiny pots of scindapsus pictus exotica for $35. These are CRAZY prices. You can buy an entire hanging pot of hoya kerrii at Green N Growing for like $5 more (multiple rooted segments, already starting to vine out, whereas the single rooted leaf here will likely never be more than that single $21 leaf). Their string of dolphins pots are also coming in at $35, which is about twice what one should pay for something that size (literally, I paid $17 for mine from East Austin Succulents), and the prices of many of their succulents is still exorbitant, especially because most of them don't get enough light in the greenhouse and subsequently have become etiolated. Who wants to pay $11-20 for a stretched out echie or senecio when you could get a properly grown one for $5-10 at a big box store or GnG? Occasionally, though, you'll find some gems at reasonable prices, like their ruby ficus elastica tinekes with 3-4 rooted stems per pot for only $7, and I recently purchased a lush silver ripple peperomia for $7 or 8, too. Those prices are competitive, for sure, but there are so few items priced that way that this still isn't and likely won't ever be my first choice in nurseries. I'm still a loyal Green N Growing fanatic, but I appreciate the recent changes with staff friendliness and engagement & the occasional deal. read more

We only go on days that they restock rare plants. Most of the times, there aren't many plants to buy. Compared to other nurseries in the area, they are a bit overpriced. Someone asked why their prices are so high and it's because of where they receive their plants from. Last time we went in when they had moonlight scindapsus and perus! All of these plants were in perfect conditions. Make sure you get there as soon as they announce, because there will be a flock of people grabbing at the plants you want. We purchased 2 45 gallon trees when we moved into our new home. They planted them and we lost one completely. We replaced it with another one that they planted and it has quickly started to die as well. I have contacted them over the phone as well as email. They haven't done anything to rectify the situation. We are starting to lose the myrtle also. So that would be tree number 3. But when I asked if they had anymore of the care sheets for a Fiddle Leaf Fig because they were out from where they had them in the greenhouse, the cashier didn't know what I was talking about. I had an issue getting a plant that died replaced. Went through many managers over the past year and was frankly fed up with dealing with the issue. It was a $250 Palm so I decided to try one more time. Thank gosh I got a hold of the new manager Terra. She took my call and had my issue handled within an hour. One week later our plant was replaced including install. Terra was amazing. You hired a good one here RRG. She honestly saved your image when nobody else's had done so in the past. I love that this local nursery is right around the corner. Prices are good, and there are a ton of native and adapted plants (including pollinator friendly plants), fruit trees, and indoor plants. There are organically grown options, which is vital for veggies, herbs and butterfly plants. Please go to places like this instead of big box stores for plants if you can.
