Boutique hotel with a rooftop view. It gave Lorenzo Hotel with more in its wake - ie Opening Bell coffee, South Side Lamar lofts, Gilleys Live entertainment and Alamo Drafthouse. Did you know Canvas hosts events? Every Wednesday, there's Complimentary Music Bingo or Trivia. Play on your own or increase your odds, as we team. Yes! They have prizes, too. There's a host of events listed in the elevator and on their Insta page. Front desk provides a host of local news -to get in touch with the scene. There's Wifi and cute room stays. Beverage and menu available upon request. The rooftop is complete with a pano fiew of the downtown skyline and an infinity pool. Complimentary parking lot. Take your personal items with you. Enjoy!

    Just one amazing view.

Room: I walked into my standard, 2 queen bed room, and was astounded. The size! The quasi-industrial yet still warm interior. It was breath taking. It was breathtaking. I can't imagine what a suite looks like! And a nice sized mini-fridge makes it easy to fill up on your own food before heading up to the rooftop. Now ... there are some imperfections. The pressed concrete, very textured/not smooth floor looks really cool. But they really need to have a runner or some kind of soft rug in the rooms. You can't do any kind of floor exercise in your room, and with it being so large, that's just a shame. Also, the raised bathroom sink looks cool, but there's no place to store the soap so it slides everywhere. These are small irritants. Rooftop pool: ! Uh maze in! (Amazing). Lovely. The pool. The view. The breeze. The music. Rooftop bar: My Old Fashioned was standard, not weak, not stand out. But solid. I have to downgrade the bar for not having fresh ginger, and on top of that, no chocolate nor espresso martinis. Their bar isn't as impressive as its surroundings. But it's good enough to not complain. Caveat: The pool is very small and not for swimming. It's maybe 3 1/2 ft deep. It's a dipping pool. For grown folks. With perfect temperature. So dip' baby, dip! Dip, baby dip! Staff: polite and professional. Helpful.

Very stylish, art-eccentric hotel that collides with excellent hospitality! The Canvas Hotel definitely stands out in my opinion with its stylish lobby's, captivating restaurants, spacious rooms, and roof top amenities. I was honestly impressed for the price of your stay what you will get when you stay here. I booked a double queen bed room and to my surprise it was so huge. I guess the expression everything is bigger in Texas is true! The location of the hotel is why I chose it. Its actually very central and makes traveling to different spots convenient. There are 2 lovely restaurants, 1 down near the lobby and 1 on the roof top. There is also a bar that serves both menus of both restaurants ( follow me here lol) The food is actually good. The staff was incredible from housekeeping down to the front desk. I was greatful for every interaction with them. I Definitely recommend this hotel.

Lovely rooftop bar to enjoy even if not staying at the hotel. Nice music for me to enjoy while the rest enjoyed drinks! Thanks for the fun vibe, Canvas Dallas!

We were in Dallas for a few days on a short trip. I wanted to stay in a more unique hotel, not one of your chain hotels. I love hotels with an artsy vibe, and Canvas seemed to fit the bill. It definitely has that retro industrial vibe, with lots of fabulous art throughout. I was concerned when we were given a room on the fifth floor, as many reviews comment about the noise from the rooftop bar, but the front desk assured me that on a weekday it would be quiet, and it was. Loved having large windows which let in beautiful light during the day. My only complaint has to do with the placement of certain items within the room. The television is mounted to the wall, which is not an issue, except it was mounted at essentially the same height as the top of the mattress. Even a foot higher up the wall would've made it much more viewable. In the bathroom, the sink is not mounted underneath the countertop, it is the kind that sits on top of the countertop. Now I am not a short woman, I am 5'4" tall, but when I approach the sink, the top of the sink is only a few inches lower than my collarbone. That made it extremely difficult to be able to lean over the sink to brush my teeth or wash my face. Quite honestly, they should be providing stepstools so that you could get a better angle. In addition, all they provide is a single towel hook for bath towels. Given that there were two of us in the room, it was awkward to know what to do with the second wet towel. I appreciate that they were going for a cool vibe, but perhaps they should've stayed in a room themselves to see how the placement of items, or lack of items, would affect their visitors. There is a parking lot, conveniently next to the hotel, but it is small and I could see where it might be a problem on weekends. The hotel is practically across the street from the police headquarters, so it is definitely a safe area to stay.

Loved our room and had an amazing time! Would have preferred less of a party atmosphere as we had a minor. However guests were respectful when we arrived to swim. Pool was nice and food service was good!

The reason why I gave them a 3 is because drinks are very expensive Three margaritas, we paid $57.. yes They included the tip.. this place has a nice view and you can see downtown from the rooftop bar This is cute to take pictures that's it... We went on a Saturday and they weren't too crowded..

    A gross dorm room corner.

I get that you're trying to make the vibe of an artists loft in the rooms and decor of the building. My room reminded me more of a boiler room with cheap dorm furniture, and trendy light fixtures on the bare wall I was waiting to see a rat crawl out of. There were exposed wires, rusty pipes across the ceiling. I really did not enjoy my stay at all. I almost forgot to mention. The lack of insulation on the bare walls makes it so you can hear everything going on in every room, AND! Every car that goes by during the night. You can hear what song is on the radio with the cars window rolled up. If you're looking for peace , quiet and comfort in a hotel? This is not the place. But it sure is trendy

This was a decent nights stay in a convenient location. The lobby is super cute and well appointed. Very cute decor and multiple seating options. The front desk is not overly eager to help, but get the job done pleasantly enough. The rooms are very minimalist. Still cute but not wowing like you sometime get with a boutique hotel. They text you upon getting to your room asking if you need anything. I requested an extra comforter that I have still yet to get. LOL They have a cute pool and bar area upstairs. The outdoor patio area would have been cute to use and had heaters, but sadly none of them were on. They also have a small bar downstairs and a small private room off to the side. I expected this place to be able to at least make specialty coffees and lattes, but nope. JUST drip coffee. The valet is a definite need because there is no where near to park unless you luck up in the share lot across the street or the dark alley behind the hotel. The valet guys were very nice and brought my car around quickly. If you need your car after hours, someone from the front desk will hand you your keys to grab your own car. Which isn't a big deal because it's in the parking lot of the hotel. Based on location and cleanliness, I would stay again. It was super close to everything I went to that made ubering inexpensive. But it did lack a wow factor for me, but great if you don't require much!

I'd stay here! This one slipped by me. Dallas is morphing so fast these days I can't keep up. This turn of the 20 th century building was turned into a NYLO hotel a few years ago. Recently rebranded as the Canvas. I toured the downstairs and roof areas to look at the art as part of the recent Cedars Art Walk. I'm glad I came here, as it just rose to the top of my Sta-Cation list. Great open and comfortable seating areas throughout. Pool table, shuffle board, big bar. The roof also has an inside and outside bar with heated pool and great downtown views. Check it out!

Came here for business trip. Stayed for 14 days…read more Coworkers recommended this location as it sits in Downtown Dallas. The hotel is nice, however outside the hotel it's not nice. There's lots of homeless people outside and not safe in my opinion. Just beware when booking. There wasn't many highly rated restaurants near Omni hotel, had to drive to places. They also host lots of events outside the hotel on their lawn. Hotel is nice. Staffs are super polite and trained. Everything is clean and super decorative. Hotel has restaurants on the first floor, they have small pool, small gym, and spa which you have to pay for. I stayed for two weeks and needed my clothes washed. The hotel does have a service where they send it out to get it washed. But it was insanely expensive. To wash a shirt was around $10. It would have cost me like $150-$200 for a week worth of clothes. I drove 20 min to the nearest coin laundry and spent couple dollars. Would love to see coin laundry in the hotel. Gym: The gym has dumbbells that only go up to 75lb. No barbells. The machine to do back, arms, etc were uncomfortable to use. Pool: Pool is on the same floor as the gym. Can see downtown Dallas. I think it's infinity pool(?) but it's pointing to the hotel building rather than facing downtown Dallas. Room: Room was super nice. The A/C is amazing, works very well. As soon as I got back to room, I set room to 62F. Then to 68F when i got cold. I stayed for 14 days and found out on my last day that there's a fridge hidden in the cabinet. I was super upset about that. The soaps, shampoo, etc are nice. The staff gives you new set even if you are using them and not empty. Price: My rate was $170 through business portal. So probably cheaper. For 14 days (13 nights), I paid little over $3000 due to various taxes and parking your rental car is like $30(?) a day. Really nice hotel, fast elevators, has gym/spa, near freeway and in Downtown Dallas. I just didn't like the environment as soon as you leave the hotel, feels unsafe.

Maybe this is what Tina Turner meant when she wrote "Simply the best!"…read more Most famous for being the haven Tina Turner sought after fleeing her abusive husband Ike in July 1976. She crossed the four-lane highway with just 36 cents and was given the presidential suite for three days. With photos, custom pillows, quotes, the "Escape" suite is dedicated to her. If you want to commemorate Tina Turner, nothing beats it. Lorenzo Hotel, let's stay together. The creative, quirky, and poetic 237-room boutique is known for being an eclectic and vibrant art gallery with a different theme for each floor. Floor 1 is a mix-up with Shakespeare, Alice in Wonderland, Poe, and Einstein. Floor 3 is Literature & Journalism (if you like old printing presses this may be your type). Floor 4 is the Music Floor (vintage audio). Floor 5 is Mid-Century Modern (1960s Dallas history). Floor 6 is "Dali" or Surrealism Floor. Floor 8 is Botanical & Nature (floral pops of color). Floor 9 is Pop Art (bold and graphic). Floor 10 is Cinematic History (Hollywood glamour). Floor 11 is The Tina Turner Tribute. Floor 12: Skyline / Skye Ballroom event level with massive floor-to-ceiling windows. We stayed in Floor 7, which is "Literary Noir" (drama and mystery). We had a broken, blinking Neon sign, a wobbly ceiling fan, broken blinds, matchbooks full of phone numbers, an unfinished manuscript, an ashtray full of cigarettes, and a dead body in the tub. Not really. But we did have a giant seven foot "desk lamp", a paintbrush and frame above our bed, and and a carpet made from Hamlet quotes in Room 704. Dining: Hamilton's is the main on-site restaurant and bar, with a host or hostess in the lobby smiling at us when we walked in. Taco Enzo and Kolache Korner are in the refurbished shipping containers in the massive parking lot. The lobby store is small and not cheap but it beats a vending machine, especially if you want an ice cream sandwich or fingernail clippers. The "South Beach" pool is saltwater, so it's softer on the skin, eyes, and hair and avoids red eyes, green hair, and pool smell. Location: Though the Cedars district is the industrial historic heart of the Dallas arts scene, it's a bit gritty and has *freeway noise*, with gentrification friction, being a patchwork of high-end luxury lofts sitting right next to dilapidated industrial warehouses, making it feel half vibrant but half abandoned. The Walkability Score is 73, thanks to massive railroad tracks, the I-30, current construction, and inconsistent sidewalks. Be warned this isn't a tree-lined, window-shopping destination like Uptown or Bishop. Finding food, a drink, and even a movie will be much easier than groceries or a pharmacy (though drugs is a different story). Service: Everyone was awesome, especially Precious, who was, like her name Precious. That explains why they don't hire Dicks.

About the Hotel I don't know the history of the hotel but I can tell it's a well kept older hotel. I like how they kept some elements of its legacy. The lighting, the mail chute and more, add to the charm of this place. The lobby is a modern twist with an emphasis on audio entertainment. There are a lot of record albums on display as art. There's a small walk up cafe for quick bites and drinks and you can take a comfy seat in the lobby to enjoy your snack. From the lobby, you can peer down into and access the Toussaint restaurant and bar. About our Room Our room (603) was spacious and functional. It included a king bed, 2 large side tables, a round bistro table with one chair, a large flat screen TV above a long counter to drop some of your stuff onto. It had a large wardrobe for hanging clothing plus a valuable safe. It had a bar with glassware and coffee service (Keurig). The bathroom was spacious and functional, though the sliding entry door did leave a large gap, taking a bit of privacy away from the commode area. If there was a con for this room, I'd say it was lighting and lack of outlets on one side of the bed. The room did have lighting, but it was very dim. Convenience We really loved the location of the Saint Elm. It was nearly next door to the Majestic Theater where we were going for a concert. Its time for "Story-time with Adam Cole Baby" (don't sue me TK, I'm working class and can't afford the lawyers) The TLDR: This is a serviceable hotel with great front desk and that's about it. I wouldn't feel comfortable with any single female friends/family to stay there by themselves. The very first interaction I had in Dallas, the VERY FIRST was a *ahem* "lady of the night as I was getting out of my Lyft and approaching the front doors of the hotel. She walked directly in my path, looked me in the eye, and with no warning said: "For $50 you can do whatever you want to my asshole" Do you know how hard it is to make me speechless? I muttered and stuttered my way past the woman to check in. Homeless people and working girl are a REAL problem here. In my eight days there every time I left the hotel I ran into one group or the other, some times both. I check in, go to my room, do a quick inspection and in the shower I find.....black mold!!!! An easy enough fix I think, I go downstairs report it to the front desk, go off to the market for supplies, and come back. The front desk guy tells me that he's made a concoction of sorts that gets rid of mold and he's left it in my room for me to apply it in the shower. A VERY WTF moment!! Bro I don't work here, and don't know enough about this chemistry experiment you've cooked up. I go back downstairs and they finally give me a new room. I'm not much of a complainer and I have a clean new room so let's just sleep and see what the next day bring. I wake up and decide to hit the breakfast. I grab some undercooked bacon and potatoes, as I'm grabbing juice I notice the employees were closing everything down (five minutes early but I get it) the really weird/annoying thing was that they were turning the lights off on all the people still eating. It felt like last call at a seedy dive bar. Like I said, I understand wanting to go home but turning the lights out on your guests was a complete and utter FAIL. My last notch in the complain column is that the building itself could really use some attention. When it was raining the ceiling by the front door was flooding like a TLC song. The elevators never seemed clean either. So if I'm going all Final Justice on my review why did I give it a three star and not a one? All the positives come from the front desk agents. Jasmine was the best agent I've had the pleasure to deal with in almost a decade. She was warm, welcoming, and quick as a whip. Every day that I came downstairs she had a different suggestion on where I should go and what I should eat. Honestly if I was building a management team from the ground up, I would poach Jasmine in a heartbeat. So yes on the strength of one employee a hotel gained two stars. Otherwise I can't really recommend stay here until they make some major changes
