This winery is located next to Rite Aid across from Ralphs. (Even with navigation I found myself on the other side of the shopping center driving in a bit circle). I came in a Saturday afternoon and there was one other party there. The owners, a husband and wife, were sitting near the front and the wife greeted us. We went to the bar area and did the BOGO wine tasting with the yelp check-in offer. Each tasting is usually $10 without the BOGO. I'm not a big wine buff, so their sweet wines were good for me: refreshing and tasty. They tasted exactly as they were labeled, the peach wine (which I got s bottle of at $15) tasted just like peaches and the coconut just like coconuts, and so on. I will say though, if you tend to be a wine-o, this may not be the place for you. My husband is big into wine and he thought his tastings, he didn't do the sweet ones, were "good" BUT not good enough to where he wanted to buy a bottle. There's no food, but you can bring your own. They do custom labels in wines too. After reading the other reviews, I was worried if the couple would be less than welcoming, but she was nice. She chit-chatted with us. The only negative was that it felt like she was rushing us through the tastings. A few times she picked up the next bottle to do the next tasting before we were even done. I wanted to sit and relax and take my time. Overall, a very casual place and the only wine place in the local area open in the early afternoon on a Saturday. If I could do 3.5 stars I would, but the tasty peach wine deserves a round up to 4. And just a heads up, I looked at the wine when I got home. It's only 7.7% alcohol, so if you want a good buzz or to get tipsy, this may not do it for you. read more

I'm not sure if they just reopened and had old wine from closing last year due to covid or what the issue was, but the wines tasted like they'd gone bad. Well this certainly was a pleasant surprise! The wife and I decided to spend a Saturday at the Canyon Crest Town Center in the UCR area of Riverside. Its an area we hadn't explored in awhile - and I'd been reading some of the Yelp!'s for places in the area and thought it was high time for some perusing and Yelping of our own. Along the way of our adventures, I had developed a bit of a neck ache and we made our way to the nearby Rite Aid for some Advil..and lo and behold! We saw a little sign that said "Winery" just beyond the drug store. Well - seeing that we'd just had a pleasant few days in Temecula Wine Country; we were quite intrigued - so we strolled on over. Turns out that its a full-service winery. They make and age the wines on-site themselves and offer these wines for sale. What's interesting is that they don't have vineyard facilities; but rather they buy grapes and have them "custom crushed" by another companies or they buy the "must" - the unfermented mixture of grape juice, stems and skins from outside sources and make the wines thusly. The result? Surprisingly good! The wife and I couldn't help ourselves - we did a winetasting of their offerings. It was reasonably priced - $5 per person for 5 tastes. The wines we tried were all very pleasant. My wife even liked the reds - which is rare for her! The decor of the place is warm, though a bit sparse. Still, its comfortable; and they encourage the bringing in of food and snacks to enjoy with bottles of their wines. What's really interesting is that you can make your own batches of wine here. Much like a store called "Squashed Grapes" in Camarillo, this winery lets you make a full batch (about 29 bottles) or a half batch (14.5) of whatever vintage of wine they offer; aging it and tailoring it to your own particulars. The prices are reasonable - and include bottles and labels. They are even having "bottling parties". Also offered are custom labeling services. You can buy a bottle of wine and then have a custom label made for it with whatever you like on it. You can chose from one of their pre-made designs or they will scan in one of your own. Makes for a great touch for a customized gift. So if you find yourself strolling around the CCTC in Riverside and want to do something out of the ordinary - stop in and sample some of their offerings. They offer many traditional kinds: Merlots, Pinots, Cabs, etc; as well as quite a few lower-alcohol fruit infused wines. Of note were the Cranberry Chianti and the Strawberry Riesling. The wife and I left with a bottle of their Cranberry Chianti and their fabulous Garnet Red Ice Wine (this one being heaven in a glass and would go well with a cheesecake). Give it a try! We're glad we did. We'll certainly be back to sample more. read more

I stopped in for wine tastings to check the place out. The owner Kevin was very friendly and nice to talk to. He gave us a tour of the small winery. They purchase the juice from all over the world and assemble their wines on the premises. They have small oak barrels and small metal casks to age the wine. They bottle it on the premises. They do some interesting blends and seem quite happy with their fruit wines. I found the prices to be quite high for what you get and they charge $5 for a tasting and do not waive the charge if you purchase a bottle. BE CAREFUL, if you are doing a wine tasting and they offer you the dessert wines after the regular tasting, they will charge you for a whole new tasting. We ended up paying $10 for our tastings rather than $5. I found the experience to be entertaining and I would consider holding a birthday, wine bottling party there, but if you have a taste for fine wines I wouldn't go there to purchase my wines in general. read more

I figure I'd buckle down and finally review this place. The previous reviews, both good and bad, were fairly spot on. With the recent change in ownership, I can say it breathes new life into the venue. The atmosphere is more inviting and friendly. The wines look to be the same, with some new ones added (Ports, etc) I'd say if you were previously turned off to this place because of the atmosphere, come back and give the new management a try. Before it was just wine, but the new management is working towards having wine and cheese/crackers to serve in the near future. I'm curious to see how that goes. read more

I went to this place with a group of 7 women for a girl's night. It was the "Sexy Santa" event that we had seen on Facebook. The sexy Santa visited every table except for ours, which I thought was kinda rude - especially since we got a nice sized group together for this. It took forever to get our drink orders and even longer for our food - when we finally did get the cheese and meat platter, we were told that they were sooo busy and we were given our food completely unprepared. Seriously, we got a package of salami, a package of cheese and a package of crackers all put on a platter unopened LOL we had to ask for a knife just so we could open up the cheese and cut it ourselves! I ordered the Argentinian Tres Blanco's wine and it really was not good, my sister ordered the Pinot Grigio and she said it was nasty. We definitely will not be back. We found Canyon Crest Winery on Groupon for a Wine Tasting for 6 offer! We came to celebrate our friend's 22nd birthday, and we had so much fun! The prices are outstanding and the wines are all delicious. We loved being able to pick 5 different wines each to taste, and we all tried something a little different! There are so many choices that everyone was able to find a few wines that they adored. My personal favorite was the Raspberry Rosé and it was so delicious that I purchased a bottle of it on my way out. The lady working was so kind to us, and she made sure we all had a fun time tasting! Stopped by last week on a Thursday afternoon to get the BOGO deal. But one wine tasting get one free. It was $10 per person with one free. Each person received 5 tastings of 4 sweet wines and one dry. I'm a big fan of sweet wines so this was perfect for me. If you don't like sweet wines you won't like many of their wine options. Carolyn and her husband were there and were friendly. Carolyn served us the 5 tastings and talked a little bit more about their custom bottle labeling and about their wine making process. The location is small and tucked away in the shopping center next to Rite Aid. It's easy to drive past without seeing it. From the outside it looks more like a little store. But it's nice inside. It's nothing like the Temecula wineries but for a space in Riverside it's nice and convenient. Carolyn told us they will soon be getting back to having live music on the weekends so I'd like to go back to check that out soon. She offered us the info in the wine club which was not a bad deal but we passed for the time being. Overall it was a nice experience and this place is more so good when you want a little winery fix without driving to Temecula. Just note that the wine tasting portions are very small. But the atmosphere is nice and seems like a good place to go to just socialize and have a couple glasses of wine if not doing the tastings. read more

***updated January 2019*** Not sure what happened but the wine availability has been sparse and the quality not great. Went in at 2:00 on Saturday to pick up wine for a party and was given very few choices. This is the third month in a row where I experienced issues with options so I cancelled my membership. Last couple times I brought friends and had super limited choices to do the tastings....it was pretty embarrassing. Also there is a sign that says no food allowed but the offerings were extremely limited as well. Grabbed some Strawberry and Cranberry which was alright but nothing to drive out of my way for. Super bummed because I used to really enjoy this spot. I absolutely love this Winery. To be honest I wasn't expecting much when I heard about a winery in a shopping center but this had quickly become one of my favorite spots. It's cute and cozy and every time I visit there's something new. They have a large selection of wines and the winemaker James takes a lot of pride in his work. I bought a groupon for wine tasting for four people. Staff was very friendly and it was a nice place to meet up with friends. Located near rite aid off canyon crest. They have 3-4 tables inside that sits 4-5 people each. No music and quiet inside. Staff was very knowledgable and gave us each 4 tastings based on our preference of wine. Note that the portions were small. The only reason I give them four stars is that the experience would be much much better if they offered some sort of snacks or chocolates that pairs with the wine. For example, the staff mentioned that the pinot noir would go great with chocolate so the experience would have been much better if food/snacks were available. Although, the owners are okay with guests bringing their own food/snacks. Overall it was a good experience and they offer events, like jazz night or paint/wine night. They also offer wine club membership, that is affordable and comes with a free tasting every month. I would definitely go here again for events! read more

While in Riverside, we had a craving to try new wine. The only "winery" was Canyon Crest so we went for it. At 23 minutes, it was easily the shortest visit to a winery in our life. The attendant was really nice and the poor tasting wine was not her fault...but, we tried six different wines...two whites, three reds, and one jalapeño wine (don't ask me why but I was curious). All of them were served at the same temperature...warm. All of them tasted like warm used dishwater. We took one sip from each glass leaving the glasses essentially full. We paid and left. If you enjoy wine, please don't go here and waste your money. If they offer the tastings for free, please don't ruin your stomach by trying these wines. read more

The owners seem very unfriendly, and they didn't even offer a little bowl or plate to eat the crackers from, I just had to reach into the box! But that is not as bad as the expiration date on the crackers!! They were expired since January 7, 2016!!!!! (I didn't notice this until today otherwise I would've pointed it out to them) The wine tasted horrible as well (I had the rose), so I tried some of the sparkling wine my friends were having and that tasted bad as well. I did a tasting. I shared a bottle. Both were an insane ripoff. The first thing that struck me was how chintzy the pours were. I've done at least a hundred tastings at wineries all over northern and central CA, northern OR, southern WA, the Tuscany region of Italy, and in and around the Burgundy region of France. Of all those hundred+ tastings, I've never, ever witnessed such small pours. In terms of serving practices, this puts them in the lowest 1% off wineries I've ever visited. The "tastes" were literally two sips; nearly as much spills down the side of the glass as the server tries to conserve wine. Unless I was looking to get drunk, why is this important? Small pours are a big problem because the wine gets combined with the residue from the previous taste (or you get a watered down wine if you rinse between tastes.) This is NOT ACCEPTABLE if you truly want to taste and smell the flavors of each wine. They have a list of wines they'll pour, which is only four wines, and depends on which bottles are open. When asked, they will grudgingly pour another wine, as long as it is also open. And the male owner even pointed out, "this is the tip jar." The wines are, simply put, no good. Don't let the $20-30 per bottle prices fool you. This is a far cry from premium wine. This "winery" is actually a part of a huge franchise that delivers juice crushed at unknown facilities, and grown at undisclosed vineyards. The winemakers have little say in, and even less knowledge of what they are working with. They don't know the sugar content, the acid content...they just take the juice and ferment it. They do not have any answers when asked, "what region is this from?" A "California" wine, for example, could be, and almost certainly is, fermented from juice from a mass-producing central valley vineyard near Lodi, Fresno, or Bakersfield that also services Carlo Rossi. The franchise owners don't get any of that information. They ferment their wines in glass and PLASTIC carboys, instead of stainless steel fermentors. There is no protection from light this way, and the wine can pick up off flavors from plastic. They age in miniature Hungarian oak barrels, and/or ferment the juice with oak chips, which is very, very cheap compared to aging in American or French oak barrels. The cost-cutting measures here are ones that even a hobby/home-winemaker wouldn't dare take. Unfortunately, my companion liked a wine (which was actually a combo of two or more wines due to the small pours) and she bought a bottle. It wasn't until the second glass when she realized how poor the quality was, how it lacked aromas characteristic of the varietal, and how overpowering were the tastes of cork and butter. These flaws come from sub-optimal bottling practices and overzealous oaking in much-too-warm conditions. Ultimately, they don't know what to do with each grape, partially because their source of juice is always changing. They are constantly trying to hit a moving target, and because of this I do feel bad for their situation. But that DOES NOT give them a license to charge $20-30 for the quality you might expect from a $4-6 bottle. In another review, it is said that the owners are very knowledgeable. Disappointingly, they are far from knowledgeable. The male owner is a cloyingly friendly salesperson, and a savvy conversationalist, but he uses only marketing keywords when describing wine. He really doesn't know much about wine or winemaking, and avoids getting into detail. But he sure seems to understand business: you won't go broke appealing to the lowest common denominator. Big overcharges and hard salesmanship don't hurt, either. If you know what to look for in a wine and a wine tasting, you'd be better off skipping it. read more

I KNOW I KNOW block me if you want because what I will say is rather complex. To be blunt, We LOVED THEIR PRODUCTS...ONLY. To say this about any food/drink product in Riverside well its rare, you need to drive at least 20-30 minutes for quality stuff. Being our, second home, I would come back to this place to either buy the stuff and leave asap or come during a busy night. Back story: Personally I had been trying to die this place because I recently got into wine, yes I am "young" and "not rich" so I get the whole stereotype. (Btw bottle pricing not bad) Anyways we saw people to my surprise and we went in. Well everyone looked at us in a weird way and they were having some sort of tasting. Cool my bad next time put a sign that there is a private event going on. We got this pretentious vibe but we gave it another chance. Went again on a rainy day which was the perfect backdrop and there was the male/ owner? and the lady/ owner? and I was literally hoping that he would help us out because he just had better vibes but she served us. So we did 2 wine tastings (White & Reds) which we fell in love with, but the whole experience was extremely awkward. The lady is too calm, I can not speak for her and accuse her of fakeness, but if WE (me and s/o) both felt the same type of awkwardness then there was something wrong. It was such a bittersweet feeling because we loved the wines but wanted to leave Asap. Put it this way I feel so bad expressing the whole exact experience because I don't want to offend her. At the same I felt extremely offended by the pretentious service given to us. Also if you check in you get "2 free wine tastings" so what we got basically. I misunderstood and thought it 2 glasses of wine, cheese & rice, the look I got for saying this. Anyways we ended up getting a bottle, NOT because we technically got the "2 wine tastings" free but because the wine was so delicious :( DO TRY the Jalapeno one, she recommended to finish with that which was the nicest thing she said/did the whole time. I've been in this place approximately two times and will not be back. I love to support family owned businesses, but when I'm made to feel soo uncomfortable by the owners... I don't think so. It's one thing to help educate your customers, it's another thing to condescend. Further, make sure your facts are correct before "correcting" someone on theirs. I was nearly willing to forgive WaCC for the owners actions toward me until I saw the very grumpy sign that they had on their door during the annual trick or treat fest at Canyon Crest. "No Candy. This is an adult establishment." Really??? I guess that they do not understand that the business that are participating are doing it for marketing and will most likely widen their customer base through participating in events like these. Last night was our 1st visit to the winery. We got there early as we were attending the Comedy night and wanted to make sure we had a seat even though we made reservations. There was a two-drink minimum which we expected. My husband and I decided on a bottle of Cab. The female owner brought us our wine, then our glasses along with a Vinturi. Without asking us she proceeds to pour the wine through the Vinturi. Could we please taste the wine before YOU decide what we like? We happen to prefer our wine without the aeration. As a business owner wouldn't it be prudent to actually check with the customer and not assume you know best? The Cab. Sav. we had was actually better without the aeration. Will we return? Maybe, but the next time we will inform them to keep the dang Vinturi away from our bottle. As for the taste of the wine, it wasn't bad, but it was worth more like $8 than the $20 we were charged. If you want to go there for the Comedy please do and enjoy yourself, just be prepared to be treated like you know nothing about wine and they know just how you will like it. read more

I have been spoiled by Napa and Sonoma wines, so I was not a fan of what they had to offer, but the place is interesting and decent especially considering they import their juice and ferment it themselves. So apparently Canyon Crest Winery has been around for eight years, I've lived in Canyon Crest for nine years. Just finding out about it two weeks ago, I feel ashamed. Like I've said before, better late than never. Walked into the place and was immediately greeted by Kevin one of the owners, an affable gentleman. My Fiancé and I sat at the bar and started our wine tasting. We started off with a few whites and then went on to reds. Every sip was tasteful. There's was one concoction Kevin poured and it was...well amazing! It completely caught me off guard, it was three wines blended together. After the tasting I ordered a glass of Tropical Island and two glasses of Acai Raspberry Zinfandel. I was very pleased with both but I ended up purchasing the Acai wine. Kevin and Carolyn your winery might be small in size but huge at heart. Thank you for the wonderful Saturday afternoon tasting and I'll see you soon.
