I have a love/hate for CAO. On one hand, I love their fresh baked goods (Cuban bread, pastries, empanadas, etc) and cortadito. Prices are reasonable and customer service is mostly great (except for the below instance). The cafe is extremely clean, with plenty of seating. If not for the below incident, this could have been a 4 star review. And now for the hate: we ordered a custom birthday cake from CAO, for a terminally ill family member who was in hospice care. This would most likely have been his last birthday cake. He was turning 60. We pre-ordered a chocolate layer cake, and asked them to write Happy 60th Birthday on the cake. They said no problem. Seemed simple enough, right? Wrong!! When we picked up the cake, it was a generic cake. Nothing was written on the cake. When we showed them our receipt, with the Happy 60th Birthday message clearly written on the receipt, they just shook their heads and said no, they can't do it. WTF?!?! If they couldn't do it, why did they agree to do it? We would have ordered the cake from another bakery! It was bad enough that it was a generic cake (probably from their stale premade cakes in their display) but to add insult to injury, they just dismissed us when we questioned them...twice! I felt that they took advantage of us since we didn't speak Spanish, and knew we were at a disadvantage since we needed the cake that day. Totally unprofessional and I discourage everyone from ordering a special cake from them. Promises are not met and what you order is not what you get. Unfortunately, this will be my family members last birthday cake ever. I'm just glad we bought special "60" candles from Walgreens to put on the cake! CAO...you are cold-hearted...Shame on you!! Note: they also do NOT honor their Yelp Check-in offer. Why am I not surprised?

This is a fabulous small chain bakery. Usually, when you hear "small chain" bakery, that's the Chain of Fools. Volume is seldom friendly to quality baked goods. Don't believe me? Ask Bodegon. Or Starbucks. Their pan-Latin selections were off-the-chain good. Pandebono, croquettas, pastelitos de carne, were some of the best that I've had in South Florida. There are some bakeries that can turn out pretty good product, but fall flat on coffee. Even in Miami Beach, where great coffee should be a given, there is a lot of pricey, yet terrible, bakery-slung coffee. Here, the coffee was awesome! Counter staff was equally great. Super-nice in both Spanish and English. They have great seating. Killer ambience. Limited parking, but hey, they have a little. Consider the neighborhood. It hides in a strip mall. Absolutely with seeking out!

Today was my second time here-and my last. I love pan con lechon. It's my go to at any Cuban establishment. Today I ordered it, and was given my sandwich without onions. For those unaware- this sandwich is a flavorful combo of marinated pork, grilled onions and Cuban bread. I pointed out that the onions were missing. What's weird is that was exactly what happened the last time I was here. I was on my way to catch a flight so, unfortunately, I didn't have time to turn around and get it fixed. So, back to today, I was given my sandwich (with onions) in the original packaging. I get to my car and open it-it was a pile of pork, onions and bread thrown together (see the photo). If I was conspiracy minded- I would assume this was an act of aggression. I put everything back together and enjoyed my pan con lechon. I simply don't understand why it's so hard to put together 3 things- especially when it's listed on the menu.

I love to visit these bakeries in Miami. The service at this location was super nice. They have a seating area inside only and following all the COVID protocols. Their prices are great and the beautifly tasty menu with all the delicious pastries, sandwiches, cakes, and more, was GREAT!!!

Let's talk cafe con leche- very good and the fact that they offer a carafe of it is great. Croquetas do leave much to be desired as the last six times (because i keep coming back for that cafe con leche and crispy bacon) are always burned, dark brown and oily. I would say thats the one thing i would change at this location. I will say the cuban bread is very good as well.

Not only is this a great place to find a great Cuban coffee but so many other treats as well. I will def be coming back. You must try the croqueta de la casa it is creamy and savory all at the same time. I love the flan and it taste just like a homemade one. They also have salads that look great and that a great option if you are trying to watch your figure. I recently have the chicken sandwich and it was juicy and perfect.

Super friendly staff!! Following social distancing during these times with dots on the floor to ensure people stand 6 feet apart. This location recently opened about a week before the pandemic began. The location is very clean, the windows allow lots of light to come in and make this bakery even more like heaven. I'm so excited for a location close to home! The food is made fresh and the lady ensured she asked exactly what I wanted on my sandwiches and how I wanted my coffee made. Definitely plan on being a regular here. They are also accepting online orders and deliver though third party services.

We came in the evening and immediately, as we walked up, there was music, people laughing, talking, smiling... the energy was incredible. I also loved that there was a bar off to the side while waiting. We ordered a few mojitos and sat outside at the tables and benches, just enjoying the atmosphere. When our name was finally called and we walked inside, I genuinely felt like I was stepping into history. The atmosphere here is unmatched. The music, the aromas, the people. God, I loved it here and I hadn't even tried the food yet. We ordered the braised oxtail (which came with plantains and rice), salmon glazed in guava BBQ sauce, ceviche tropical, assorted empanadas, and a Cuban sandwich. Everything was phenomenal. The sauce paired with the empanadas perfectly. The guava BBQ glaze on the salmon was absolute perfection. It was the perfect combo of sweet, smoky, and flavorful. The ceviche had the perfect acidity and tasted so fresh and refreshing. This is one of the most famous Cuban restaurants in Miami. It completely lives up to the reputation. Highly recommended

DIRT AND MUD IN THE SALAD!!! WATCH OUT…read more We ordered the salad with mango and pecans. They do not wash there lettuce. There was literally dirt/mud at the bottom and I took my first bite and it felt like biting into sand. Upon spitting the food out onto my plate it was black sludge. Literally my tongue and teeth were black. The waiter came by and grabbed the plate when I was in the bathroom. I spent about 10 minutes trying to get that BLACK SLUDGE out of my mouth. When I was spitting out the dirt/mud wife noticed the bus boys laughing at me and there was not a manger in sight. When I asked for a manager he did not even respond. No apology or anything just a look of confusion. Worst experience in a restaurant in my life and I love to eat and have been to many types of restaurant big and small. Cheap and expensive and this one takes the cake. We were so bummed as I see thousands of great reviews. But if there was a zero I would have given zero stars the way they handled the situation. If you eat there in the future make sure to check for DIRT/MUD.

Regardless when we arrived they sat us outside which is exactly what we were hoping for. Our server was nice at first. Explained all the popular dishes got our drinks out very quickly. I think she stole our table from someone else because shortly after someone came and we told them we put our order in and he seemed a little bothered. Unfortunately, our other server disappeared and never checked up on us. We pretty much didn't have any napkins during our entire duration of our meal. At least that part was good. We started off with a couple of mojitos and their Vaca Frita Tostones. You get these homemade maduro tostones topped off with shreeded beef in a moon sauce, pickled onion, and aji Amarillo aioli. A very delicious dish that didn't last long. Shortly after we received our main dish. I really hate when they do that. My wife ordered their Abuelas Ropa Vieja and I ordered their Masa de Puerco Chino. My wife didn't really care for her dish much. We've had plenty of Ropa Vieja before and would have preferred a congri type of rice as opppsed to just plain white rice. My dish was 10/10. Like in the name of "chino" this is an Asian inspired dish with fried rice, maduros, pineapple confit and crispy pork. A very delicious dish. It could have don't without the little salad on top, but at least it ads color to the dish. The crispy pork tasted so amazing and the fried had so much flavor. Mix in some of the maduros and you get a sweet and savory dish. Would definitely be returning to try this dish again.

We ordered the Cuban sandwich and the Cuban burger, and honestly both were dangerously good. The Cuban sandwich was exactly what you hope for -- crispy bread, perfectly pressed, packed with flavor, and the kind of sandwich that makes you pause mid-bite and just nod at the person across from you like "yep... this was the right decision." The Cuban burger was also fantastic -- juicy, flavorful, and big enough that you start questioning whether you should have skipped breakfast. The area around the restaurant was great too. Nice vibe, good energy, and perfect for walking around before or after eating... which you will probably need to do after finishing that burger. The servers were good -- friendly, attentive, and thankfully didn't judge us for attacking the food like we hadn't eaten in three business days. We stopped here at this one on Espanola Way for dinner on a Sunday, primarily because we had somewhere else in this area to be afterward, and while most every place on this touristy street was packed with a wait list, this restaurant could seat us right away. Service was good all evening from an outgoing waiter, this place was great for people watching (we were seated at a high top on the sidewalk in front), the food was good and the prices were reasonable, especially considering that Espanola Way is one of the most touristy areas on already touristy Miami Beach. I had the signature roasted chicken ($28) and my husband the Cuban churrasco steak ($42) and both included sides. We also had a glass of wine each and again, wine prices were reasonable. While we don't tend to eat in this general area often as it is so touristy which usually equals lackluster food and service at high prices, Havana 1957 was just fine. I'd happily return here.
