I've come to this place for many many years. The lunch service has always been a little slow. But when I tell you, these are probably some of the best Colombian empanadas and pan de Bono. It's definitely one of the best breakfast spots in the area. I have come here countless times just to order hot fresh pan de bono. Have been going to this Macita's since we moved to Cutler Bay área 11/2 years ago. Before that we would go to the Kendal location. It has always been a nice place to eat when craving Colombian but this last visit really disappointed. First, the service was sub par. Our waitress was not coming by to check on us. I was 1/2 done with my food before I was able to get her attention to order another drink. We were almost done eating when asked if we needed anything. She was not rude, she just did not take the time to come check if we wanted something else. I usually have dessert and coffee at the end but was so frustrated and concerned I was going to have to flag her down again that we just got the check and left. Now the food which has always been great this time not so great. My husbands fried fish had no taste and was over fried. My seafood rice had literally 2 pieces of shrimp, 2 calamari and a few pieces of fish it was just mostly rice with seafood flavor. Did not taste like the typical Colombian seafood rice. Unfortunately this is the closest Colombian restaurant to us but for future cravings I rather drive farther for a better experience. read more

I want to start my review by saying that I have been coming here for over nine years. I'm a very fair person and don't like to judge an establishment based on just one visit. The food at this place is always good. The service is absolutely awful. I recently ordered a soup on the phone and told them the one with the bone in it. They know what that means as I've been ordering it that way for years. When I pick up the soup it was ice cold. I drove back to the establishment and told them so that they could correct the mistake. This time they gave me a completely different soup. I didn't realize it until after I had gotten home. When I went back by this time, I'm furious because this is two trips back to the restaurant. The female manager had the audacity to argue with me and tell me that I don't know how to order. I explained to her that I always order the soup by saying the one with meat on a bone in it. It seemed like there was no accountability for the mistake. Just a bad attitude. I was shocked because I have been coming here for nine years. The food quality is always great and the service is hit or miss until today. I've had servers that are great. I've had other servers that completely. Ignore you and you have to track them down just to get a refill. The ambience in this place is good. I will not be eating here ever again because of the disgusting way that the manager treated me. If you're only interested in food and don't care about bad service then this is your place. However, if you care about food and service, you may want to find another Colombian restaurant. read more

I've been a customer at macita's for years and lately its been a little hit or miss. Whenever I'm craving authentic Colombian, I pop in and tonight my takeout experience was really great. The food was homey, satisfying and the portions are very filling. But the real stars are the Empanadas and Pan de Bono. The empanadas are perfectly golden and crisp on the outside and the filling is just delicious . They come with the BEST spicy side( picante) and this may be my favorite part. I could honestly drink the stuff on its own. The Pan de Bono are a classic and I could seriously eat 4 of these in one sitting. I used to love this place. The food was always on point. Today we went and it was a mess lol. We sat at the little four seater bar top and we almost had to beg for service. I don't think there was someone assigned to that area. Or that's the impression I got although there were others there who were being waited on. The place is extremely busy today, so it took about 45 minutes to get our bandeja paisa and appetizer. The beans were delicious as always, but the steak lacked flavor. And there seems that there have been changes and not for the better. I ordered the calentado with chorizo and fried eggs and a cafe con leche. Their cafe con leche used to be the best I had ever had...used to be. We were brought a mug full of milk with the coffee on the side. There was not enough room to add the coffee and it ended up being weak when you were finally able to add some coffee. The rice and beans were mushy...super mushy and the fried eggs were fried hard. We have been coming here for years. The best part of the dining is our lovely server, Lena. Husband had camerones enchilados. He said they skimped on the rice and it could have been hotter. My daughter had gone to eat with friends a couple weeks ago and raved about how amazing it was so when I took her to do her eyebrows a couple days ago at a place inside the same shopping center as this restaurant, I knew I had to stop and get some pan de bono and empanadas Colombianas. As soon as you walk in, you smell all the aromas. I went right to the bakery area BUT I couldn't help looking at all the dishes being brought out by the servers. The food looked amazing and the portions were pretty big so I called the hubby and asked if he wanted to get something for dinner. Of course he said "hell yeah" so I ordered two Bandeja Paisa con Carne Asada and four of us shared the food. That is how big the portions are. We've ordered from here a few times and the food is always amazing, but this time we went to eat the food in person at the restaurant. We usually order the Bandeja Paisa, so I ordered that again and also empanadas, pan de bono, and totstones with meat and cheese on top. I also ordered a mint lemonade which really caught my eye on the menu and it did not disappoint! The appetizers were so amazing, the empanadas were fresh, the pan de bono was nice and soft and warm. The tostones with meat cheese and sweet chili sauce were so delicious and different. I enjoyed the combination of flavors. The mint lemonade was FRESH! They literally blended the mint leaves into the lemonade while we were sitting there. That really made the whole meal for me. The bandeja paisa was phenomenal! Fresh and flavorful, the steak was perfect medium rare like I asked, the chicharron was perfect, juicy and crispy. The rice and beans were perfect, the plantains were soft and sweet and flavorful. Lastly the sausage was crisp and juicy as well. Dining here in person is a much better experience than ordering as the food is hot and fresh and you can get the full culinary experience. Service here is outstanding! Seated right away. Drink orders taken quickly and specials added to the menu went over. Complimentary hot bread given within minutes of seating. So far so very good. Inside is super cute, spacious, even has a corner spot that looks like a little cafe within a restaurant. There was alot of traffic coming in and out so we knew the food had to be good. For starters we had the arepa choclo. It a corn arepa with a thick slice of cheese on top. I'm use to the arepa with cheese in between but this was just as good with a tad bit of sweet. Hubby had a Colombian soda and I went with their fresh squeezed lemonade with mint (this is made with limes instead of lemons). This was so refreshing and not to sweet but really good. Hubby had the traditional plate of the bandeja paisa (comes with steak, sausage, rice, red beans, fried egg, arepita, and a huge chicharron) it was so much food he took home a doggy bag. Being that I wasn't to hungry I ordered an appetizer as my meal. So I went with the tostones with shredded beef atop. It was good but I didn't care so much for the sweet sauce they added.
