I've been to El Rinconcito Cubano of Kendall several times over the years. They've been around…read moresince 1996, serving up traditional Cuban dishes like ropa vieja, lechón asado, and of course, their Cuban sandwich. Honestly, my past experiences there have always been pretty good, as the place was clean, the staff friendly, and the food consistently solid. That's why when dinnertime came around today, I didn't think twice about ordering from them. I had some friends over to watch the USMNT Gold Cup Final soccer match and I was really craving Cuban food. I placed an order through Uber Eats expecting the same quality I've come to know. The food actually arrived pretty quickly, in about 35 minutes, which was great. But as soon as I opened the container with my Cuban sandwich, I knew something was off. It wasn't pressed properly as you could tell right away someone had rushed making it. But the real disappointment? There were no condiments at all. No mustard, no pickles, no mayo... nothing. It just seemed like someone lightly buttered the bread, barely warmed it up, and sent it out. When I opened the sandwich, it was even worse there was hardly any ham or pork inside. Honestly, it looked sad. I was so disappointed, I ended up tossing it in the trash. I mean, it's one thing to mess up a random order, but this was a Cuban sandwich from a Cuban restaurant. That's the signature item. How do you get that wrong? The rest of the food was okay, not great, but edible, so at least my guests had something to eat. Still, I'm the one who chose the place and really wanted to enjoy my meal, and they completely missed the mark. I'm giving El Rinconcito Cubano of Kendall a one-star review based on tonight's experience. To be fair, I've had good meals here in the past, so I'd be open to giving them another shot down the road. If they step it back up, I'll happily update this review. But tonight? They really dropped the ball.

For me, their best is the rabo encendido (ox's tail) with mashed potatoes and salad as sides. The staff is nice, they work hard and are always at your service, and the location, while small, doesn't feel crowded or noisy. The parking is a bit of a challenge because it doesn't allow for many cars and it is shared with other three stores, but it's usually sufficient.

The vaca frita here tastes really good, but all and all its nothing special, some pieces were tough some were very tender. The vaca frita was cut in big chunks, I would have liked it a little more shredded.I also had rice and beans sweet plantains and French fries. The fries were the best, nice thick crispy and crunchy, the plantains were OK, the rice and beans were pretty standard. The ambiance was nothing special at all. I ordered to go so I didn't receive any service, but just an FYI because they will not disclose this information with you when you order takeout they charge you an extra $.35 per item. That is WILD! I saved my bill so you can see it. I'm wondering if they do the same on door dash. I will continue my quest to find the best vaca frita in south Florida.
