A spectacular, historic beach no matter what time of day. In the early morning, one can see…read morefishermen, fishing boats and the illuminated ferries while at midday, the waves sparkle and the gulls sun themselves. Surf Drive Beach is the site of the Old Stone Dock, attacked during the War of 1812. It was once where "packets" (mail ships) set sail. While part of New England maritime history, it is now more subdued. There's decent parking, it's clean, safe, with excellent views of Vineyard Sound. It reflects the seasons. One can watch osprey, gulls, and cormorants. It's more for relaxation than swimming. Beautiful eastern views.

Cons: Water was freezing(mid 60s). This may be also viewed as a pro as it felt really cooling after being in it but does take time to get used to. The kids in the group had a hard time venturing any further than knee height. Walk to and from parking lot/ bathroom was a little long. The sand can be a little pebbly.

The view is decent for the most part, I wouldn't consider anything too exciting, except the view out to the west looking towards Point Gammon Lighthouse, which didn't look visible due to the weather. Across the water, you'll see Thacher Town Park Beach, which can't be crossed. One of the entrances has a mini fence on the ground, warning about sandpipers. Be careful while stepping over. There's no doubt I'll make this stop again.

We got all of the details through email and showed up the day of ready to go. Our instructor, Chris, took us through the basics before getting in the water and then we got to have the remainder of the time playing on the waves. His instructor (Ronnie Lees) worked with him and got him up on the board, cruising to the beach the first hour. By the end of lesson #5, he was paddling out on his own, starting out on his own (no push), accomplishing simple turns and routinely surfing all the way to the beach. Being a Minnesota kid, this was a truly unique experience. Our only dilemma...next year do we sign him up for another five hour package, or a full camp? Needless to say, he wants to do both.

I walked down to the beach over a blue mat laid down on the sand which made for easy walking. I little shocked to see warnings posted about sharks! As I neared the beach and the waves rolling in, I could see some people watching something out in the surf and was excited to see a seal swimming along in the waves, its head popping up occasionally. Spending time at Race Point Beach was one of the highlights of my trip to Provincetown and Cape Cod.

Beautiful sand, waves, tidal pools and sand bars that are constantly changing. You can ride to the race point parking lot on bikes from the Provincelands bike trail and relax at the beach to enjoy the views. It's part of the national park system so there is a fee in season. You can use this pass to enter other national seashore beaches as well. There are a number of paths to the beach from the parking lot. One path has a mobimat available, in season at least. It is a pretty long walk down this path, and it is fairly steep, so if you struggle with that, you might prefer Herring Cove which is just on the bay side nearby. It's a bit more gradual of a hill.
