I hate to give a local restaurant a mediocre review but for tiny restaurant with so few tables, Musette just can't pull it together. The food is absolutely delicious. We have never had a bad meal here, but the service for the caliber and cost of dinner here is just unacceptable. It's really difficult to get help in the summer season and the high school? girls who are working here are very polite and sweet, but they have no idea how to serve customers. Really hope as season approaches things improve because the food is truly special and why we return each summer. read more

This was one of the most intimate and lovely dining experiences I've had in Kennebunkport. And as a local, I've had many Maine dining experiences. We were a party of 7 on Saturday evening and ordered the chefs tasting menu. For the level of cuisine and offerings, we considered $85 per person a fantastic deal (especially when compared against other restaurants offering less courses at $120+ per person). This menu didn't disappoint... each course was well thought-out, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. The style and character of Musette is very "Maine". Soft lighting, comfortable seating; a practical yet well-designed airy environment. Our server, Jenn, was a delight. She was professional, knowledgeable and energetic. Jenn was very attentive and on-it... from drink orders to water refills, she didn't miss a beat. Chefs Jonathan & Selena made this an evening to remember. We only stopped in for drinks and I'm glad we did. What a cute lovely little restaurant. They're open Wednesday through Sunday for brunch and dinner. Patrick Dempsey is a regular visitor. My husband and I enjoyed a wonderful dinner last night at Musette. Definitely fit for Foodies! Heads up dinner is your selection of three courses at $85/person. I started with a beet and carrot appetizer and my husband throughly enjoyed an asparagus soup with mini lobster roll bites. Next course for me was Thai lobster and clam stew with a side of coconut rice. My husband loved every bite of his beef tenderloin with potatoes. My next course would have been chicken breast with mushrooms but we were already full so decided to bring it home along with my husbands dessert which we enjoyed for lunch today. We were also presented with amuse Bouche of consommé to start and and a mini dessert spongelike cake. Another highlight was a biscuit with 2 flavors of butter and side of home baked focaccia. The decor was a little more casual then what you might expect for fine dining experience. Service was a little slow at first but improved significantly as the evening went home. My friends and I stopped here for some breakfast, and it was everything we needed! We tried the salmon bagel and the egg breakfast sandwich and everything was super fresh and delicious. It took a bit of time since everything was made to order, but totally worth the wait. The coffee was also great! It is a super cute little diner, and I would love to go back to try their dinner too! I'm not sure how to rate this restaurant. I travel to Kennebunkport once a year for a week of coastal Maine cycling. Since the year it opened, Musette has been a favorite. The food--breakfast, lunch and dinner--has been reliably awesome and the service outstanding. The connection to cycling was a bonus. This week, I was in Cape Porpoise for just an afternoon. I called for a dinner reservation on Wednesday and I was told that they have gone to a prix fixe and the cost per person was $75. Until today, I would have rated Musette 5 stars but now that they've gone snobby, I must demote them. read more

Beware.. Good news: Food is very good and the service is great. For a small restaurant, it's easy to do it right and they got it right. Bad news: They add 20%+ to the bill as a service fee but don't tell you. Took a couple out for dinner as a thank you, and I never study the bill. I condider it rude. Just give them the CC. When the receipt came i put on a 20% tip. There is a line for tip. So.. they got a 41%+ tip. For that, they get 1 star. Been all over the world and hundreds of nice restaurants. Never saw this before. When a gratuity is automatically added, they have the decency to let you know. Never saw an automatic tip for 4 people before. Such a cute little diner. The decor is absolutely charming, the staff is friendly and the food is delicious. If we hadn't been in such a rush I would have taken more photos. My avocado toast was beautiful and delicious... you'll just have to take my word for it. The pancakes, eggs benedict, and has we also delicious. This is a reflection on their food truck. I got the haddock and salmon chowder. I stood and watched it being prepared- which was fish being picked out precariously from a metal container and the soup base poured over it. Chives placed on top and served. Why the 2 stars? I sat directly in view of the truck and watch time after time food being prepped with ungloved hands. As in I would not see the man wash his hands between lulls, conversations or orders. Also, for $9 one would hope they would fill it near full. The chowder itself was pretty tasty, a smidge salty. The haddock I found a tad over cooked but the salmon a perfect consistency. This had been our favorite restaurant since it was the Wayfarer. We went tonight for dinner. I am trying to be fair and constructive in my review. The great experience and friendly atmosphere we have enjoyed for many decades was definitely missing. My comments are as follows: Plus +Female who greeted us was pleasant. She may have been a part of the culinary team as we did not see her for the remainder of the evening. Our name and reservation time was on a table card. Nice touch for all of the reserved tables. Minus -Our server was very inexperienced and seemed very unsure of himself. There was an item on the specials board that he didn't know what it was. Minus -There were two servers. Ours was Issac. Not sure of the name of the other server but he seemed rather curt and blunt. Two couples came in with no reservation but they only wanted a drink from the bar. They were told in no uncertain terms that they could not order food. Meanwhile, a reserved no-show table for four sat empty next to us. Perhaps the restaurant could have accommodated one of the couples at the bar. Another group of four came in and there was confusion about their reservation. They were initially told they didn't have one but then the server realized that they did. The customer was upset at first but then she calmed down afterwards. Minus - An automatic 20% gratuity is added to your bill no matter what size of your party. I usually tip 20% or more but this was a turnoff. I heard another table commenting about it as well. Plus and Minus + - I ordered the roasted chicken with squash and mashed cauliflower. It was delicious but hardly any cauliflower. Plus + The seafood dip appetizer was delicious. + My husband had the butternut squash soup and it was great. Plus and Minus +- My husband ordered the haddock sandwich which was delicious. He got fries but he did not request the old bay seasoning which was added. He can't eat spicy foods. Minus - I ordered a glass of white wine. The glass seemed small and I asked about the pour. The waiter was observed laughing about my question with one of the kitchen crew. Dining out is all about great food and the dining experience. Although the food was wonderful our experience tonight was less than expected based on previous visits. The vibe was definitely off. We will give it another try. read more

I have now dined at Musette twice in the last two weeks. Both experiences have been in the top ten of best meals I've ever had. The staff is super friendly, knowledgeable, attentive, and experienced. The food is off the charts good. The standard 20% gratuity is well earned and deserved and I always leave an additional gratuity. I can't wait to go back again. First of all, we were very excited to try your restaurant. We had an incredible waitress and everything was wonderful up until the point things went down hill. Our table ordered lobster bisque, and lobster pasta, which is a dish and on their menu at all times not to mention they had a sampling by the chef, that also had multiple lobster dishes. The waitress who was very kind and came over to inform us that the chef has run out of lobster and only had just enough to make one or the other, so we had to choose whether we would want a lobster bisque or the lobster pasta, we were not allowed to have both (keep in mind we are in maine .. who runs out of lobster) Totally shocked as I have went to many restaurants locally for years and now have a summer house here and we eat out at least five days a week, and I've never had a Restaurant in Maine run out of lobster . Immediately disappointed and also shocked being that the menu and the sampling had multiple lobster dishes., Then I realized people coming in afterwards were still getting the sampling menu and lobster dishes. I then asked the waitress to please be honest because from what I was observing around me, people were still getting served lobster, and then she informed me that the chef had to put lobster aside for his sampling dishes and obviously did not make sure that he had enough lobster for his menu. At that point being in the customer service industry, which I strive every day to satisfy my customers, there wasn't even a, I'm sorry we ran out of lobster, how about we bring you a dessert. There was none of that. It was pretty much too bad. Oh well. Very disappointing and they werent even trying to make it better. This is not an inexpensive restaurant, and they should strive to make customers happier. A happy customer returns and tells all of her friends about her great experience. An unhappy customer tells even more people and goes on social media about the very bad experience. Also, you might not want to order cocktails... I Ordered a Manhattan and got a glass of bourbon., Tried to ask for them to put more vermouth in but obviously this wasn't their specialty, if you don't know how to make a drink, then just say so and don't lie and say you ran out of lobster when you were trying to put it aside for your sampling not OK. read more

I enjoyed take out from this restaurant not once, or twice, but three times during my three day getaway to Kennebunkport. So happy my airBnB owner recommended it. Enjoyed the salmon, nice and crispy on the outside but soft and perfectly cooked on the inside. It came with a veggie and mashed potatoes, which were amazing. Scallops with an amazing tomato sauce (soooo much flavor) and zucchini. Braised short ribs with grits, sooooo yummy and interesting combination that did not disappoint. Seafood cake sandwich w a delish tarter sauce and perfectly cooked fries. Small complaint, scallop dinner was a super small portion, which was very off compared to the other plates. Desserts ordered and enjoyed were the chocolate mousse and apple strudel, ordered two nights in a row. Also enjoyed breakfast one morning too, although dinner was my favorite meal there. read more

I really want to love Musette but I don't. This is my second visit and both times were very disappointing. I was excited to see Seafood Stew on the menu for a reasonable price ($15). It had salmon, mussels, scallops, potatoes, fennel in a lobster broth. The salmon & scallops were totally overcooked, dry & tasteless. The broth had a good flavor & the toasted bread was the best part of the dish. My folks got the creme brulee again flat & flavorless. The service & ambiance are excellent but the food needs much improvement. read more

Superb. By chance we were driving by and noticed this charming little restaurant. We had groceries in the car and planned to eat in; on a whim we decided to check it out. Each and every staff member was attentive. The entrees were excellent; I ordered the grilled lobster and he had the halibut. The crispy broccoli that accompanied the lobster was amazing. We stayed with some friends nearby this restaurant, and came early on a Sunday because we thought it would be crowded. Well it wasn't, and the reason was the food. Waitresses were great, but coffee was weak, bacon was like chewing on leather, corned beef hash was inedible. My girlfriend couldn't eat hers, and after having the bacon (which was a separately charged item), I didn't want to try it. This is the kind of place that should be packed on the weekend. The bacon should be delicious! My order, crab cake eggs benedict, was not bad. They even asked specifically how runny I wanted my poached egg. Decor is clean and modern. So there are some positives. But I'm giving one star as a courtesy to the owner to see there are issues to be addressed. Happened on a Sunday, 7/7/19. read more

We have been regulars at the Wayfarer , now Musette, for two decades and through multiple owners. We have dined at Musette twice for breakfast. Both times the wait time for the food was around 45 minutes. The hash brown potatoes were dry and over done, the corned beef hash was not cut properly, the portion baked beans was tiny and the service was non existent. It appears that the focus may be on dinner. While we would love a new place to go for dinner that is-upscale and appeals to foodies, we are sad that our favorite breakfast spot is gone. We want to remain regulars and will try dinner. read more

Very cute little place in the center of Cape Porpoise. We went there for breakfast on a Saturday. Our waitress was the BEST. The friendliest, sweetest waitress I have been served by in a long time. Food good, not great - ordered eggs scrambled with cheese, spinach and sausage. Home fries on the side - which were lukewarm at best - Was good but nothing I would go out of my way for again. Overpriced also. Good coffee. If it wasn't for our waitress - who was the absolute BEST - I would give the place 3 stars. read more

Amazing food and service! We were served by Bert who was just the sweetest most kind hearted woman there is. We were only stopping by for a quick bite but had such a wonderful time and she made us feel so welcomed that we stayed for 2 hours! The food is incredible as well. We had the seared haddock sandwich with old bay fries and had to order a second round of fries as they were some of the best we ever had. I dont understand why this restaurant gets business -- except there are so few choices. And i cant believe this chef was from White Barn! unless he had the night off and had a substitute. Wednesday night. Sirloin steak was grisley and fatty and small. Pureed cauliflower was so salty i couldn't eat it and if i did eat it it would have been with a spoon. Salmon totally over-salted and dry with none of the lemon balsamic sauce it claimed to come with. All proportions were very skimpy. This is the worst over-rated and over-priced restaurant in the Kennebunk area. And i have been to them all. I am a summer local and would love LOVE to find a nice new restaurant. i was hoping this would be it. but not. i am not a picky eater. Just want decent food. The service was decent however, and for my taste the wine list was adequate. read more

We ordered a lot of different things and everything tasted so good. My favorite was the French toast with blueberry compote. Unpretentious, comfortable spot on the outskirts of Kennebunkport, next to Cape Porpoise Kitchen. The service is very friendly. The portions are very generous. They have a great selection of a la carte sides for breakfast and brunch. I recommend any of their benedicts (seafood!), corned beef hash, and pancakes. The corned beef hash is delicious, but I do wish it had more onions and/or peppers cooked into it. The home fries are great. The pancakes are tasty as is, but I think would benefit from some kind of addition - homemade whipped cream or fruit compote? Order a homemade muffin to start and enjoy a nice relaxing breakfast or brunch. read more
